The method comprises: when a mobile robot detects a following instruction for a target object, determining a navigation route on the basis of the current position information of the mobile robot and a movement range of the target object (S101); during the process of moving according to the navigation route, searching for a candidate object of the same category as the target object (S102); when it is determined that there is another object of the same category as the target object within the movement range of the target object, further performing feature comparison between the candidate object and the target object (S103); and if the comparison is successful, determining the candidate object to be the target object (S104).
