Abstract
The present invention relates to a self-sampling device for collecting cervico-vaginal fluid, which optimizes self-collection of fluid, makes it easier to handle and ensures aseptic conditions. The device comprises a collecting component, which can be coupled to an actuation rod, which collecting component comprises at least a collecting projection formed by a fin-shaped lamellar body extending longitudinally following a sinusoidal-shaped directrix. Said collecting projection comprises a distal portion that has a double curvature and extends uninterruptedly in a proximal portion, which also has a double curvature, and the portions are curved in opposite directions to each other from an intermediate transition point. The device also comprises an applicator assembly which is provided with a temporary braking mechanism which releasably fixes, as required, the position of the actuation rod inside an applicator sleeve, to prevent the same from accidentally coming out and being contaminated. The device comprises a driving mechanism that inserts and moves the collecting component along the vaginal canal describing a reversible helical movement, which, due to its sinusoidal collecting projections with portions having a double curvature, collects both incoming and outgoing fluid from the vaginal canal.
