Description

A MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR MOUNTING A LOUDSPEAKER TO A PLATE MEMBER AND A LOUDSPEAKER APPARATUSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a mounting system for mounting a loudspeaker to a plate member and a loudspeaker apparatus.BACKGROUND

[0002] Loudspeakers are used in a large number of different applications, where they can be installed in buildings in different forms. The speakers can be mounted in the ceiling, for example. For this purpose, a hole is made in the ceiling and the loudspeaker is accommodated in a housing which has a body portion whose dimensions are smaller than the diameter of the hole, and which has a flange with a widened radius at the bottom of the housing, wherein the flange has a dimension larger than the diameter of the hole. A clamping member, such as a dogear-clamp, is provided on the housing, and the clamping member is capable of being manually switched between a retracted position and an expanded position. In order to mount the loudspeaker at the ceiling, the housing together with the speaker inside, is first passed underneath the ceiling through the hole, whereupon the clamping member is retracted, thereby allowing the housing to pass through the hole. Subsequently, the clamping member is manually turned so as to convert it to the expanded position. In this case, the clamping member is extended outwardly so that its dimensions are larger than the hole. Then, the clamping member is driven downwards with the aid of self-tapping screws so as to be able to clamp the both sides of the ceiling with the cooperation of the clamping members with the flanges, thus fixing the housing together with the loudspeaker inside it at the ceiling.

[0003] However existing designs of the mounting system are not always satisfactory. First of all, only one self-tapping screw is used to drive the clamping member, which can result in the clamping member not being positioned correctly, wherein the clamping member will lift up after the screw has been tightened, maintaining only lineal contact with the surface of the ceiling, and thus the ceiling speaker will not be able to remain stable in the ceiling. In addition, the range of ceiling thicknesses is quite narrow due to the length restrictions of the self-tapping  screws. Additionally, during installation of the ceiling speaker with traditional dogear, the operator must manually hold the speaker in order to tighten all the screws, or the unfinished speaker will accidentally fall out.

[0004] Therefore, the technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a mounting system which allows reliably and easily mounting a ceiling loudspeaker.SUMMARY

[0031] An aspect of the present disclosure relates to a mounting system for mounting a loudspeaker on a plate member, comprising: a housing for accommodating the loudspeaker comprising a circumferential wall and a mounting flange projecting outwardly from the  circumferential wall; at least two clamping devices, wherein the clamping device comprises a sliding base and a clamping member, wherein the clamping member is pivotally connected to the sliding base; the clamping device is capable of switching between a first position, in which the clamping member is collapsed in the sliding base and a second position, in which the clamping member springs outwardly from the sliding base and opposes to the mounting flange thereby being able to clamp the plate member by a cooperating action of the clamping member with the mounting flange, and wherein the clamping device is able to automatically reset from the first position to the second position.

[0032] A hole is made in the ceiling and the loudspeaker is accommodated in a housing which has a body portion whose dimensions are smaller than the diameter of the hole, and which has a mounting flange with a widened radius at the bottom of the housing, wherein the mounting flange has a dimension larger than the diameter of the hole. In the prior art, a clamping member, such as a dogear-clamp, is provided on the housing. This type of the clamping member is capable of being switched between a retracted position and an expanded position. However, in order to convert such a clamping member from a retracted position, in which the clamping member adjacents to the housing to an expanded position, in which the clamping member protruds outwardly from the housing, the clamping member must be manually rotated downwardly and outwardly. This results in the operator having to hold the loudspeaker by hand and manually operate each clamp member during the installation of the loudspeaker, and then utilize the driven screws to make the clamp members tighten against the ceiling, which would otherwise result in the accidental dropping of the loudspeaker.

[0033] In comparison to this unfavorable design and cumbersome mounting process, the mounting system of the present disclosure achieves automatic pre-locking of the clamping device. Specifically, the resetting of the clamping device from the first position, in which the clamping member is collapsed in the sliding base, to the second position, in which the clamping member springs from the sliding base, is carried out automatically, without manual intervention by an operator. That is to say, the clamping member can automatically be pushed from the sliding base and thereby face each other with the mounting flange. As a result, even if the clamping member has not yet clamped the plate member with the mounting flange, the clamping member has protruded outwardly to a size larger than the mounting hole, and thereby  a pre-locking is achieved and the housing is reliably held over the plate member.

[0034] Preferably, the clamping device comprises a pre-loading member that automatically biases the clamping device to the second position. Preferably, the pre-loading member is constructed as a spring acting on the clamping member.

[0035] The number of the clamping devices can be varied according to the design needs. It is possible, for example, to provide three, four or more clamping devices on the housing.

[0036] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the clamping device is able to slide up and down in a height direction of the housing along the circumferential wall. The sliding base comprises a sliding surface slidably abutting on the circumferential wall, a base bottom surface extending parallel to the mounting flange and two base lateral surfaces opposed to each other, wherein the sliding surface is connected to long sides of the two base lateral surfaces, and the base bottom surface is connected to narrow sides of the two base lateral surfaces. The sliding surface comprises a guide groove extending longitudinally in the height direction, the circumferential wall comprises a fixedly connected guide member, wherein the guide member is movably supported in the guide groove, thereby guiding the sliding of the clamping device in the height direction. The guide groove is constructed as a guide screw preferably. The mounting system comprises a driven screw which passes through the base bottom surface and the mounting flange, so as to realize the sliding of the clamping device in the height direction by rotation of the driven screw.

[0037] The up and down sliding of the clamping device with respect to the housing, in particular with respect to the mounting flange is realized by the driven screw. Furthermore, the movement of the clamping device is favorably supported by a cooperating action between the guide groove additionally provided on the clamping device and the guide member provided on the circumferential wall of the housing, which improves the stability and directional precision of the sliding of the clamping device.

[0038] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the clamping member is integrally constructed in an L-shape and comprises a first segment and a second segment, wherein in the second position the first segment forms an angle of no greater than 15°with the height direction, and the second segment forms an acute angle with the first segment and is oriented with its free ends pointing towards the housing. In the second position the  second segment opposes to the mounting flange.

[0039] The angle formed by the first segment with the height direction should be reasonably chosen. If this angle is too large, there is a risk of the second segment buckling upwards unexpectedly under stress. Experiments have shown that this angle should not be greater than 15°. In this case, in the second position of the clamping device, the second segment protrudes outwards and its free end points inwards to the housing. When the second segment is pressed against the ceiling, its free end is extruded upwardly and deformed so that the second segment overall abuts against the ceiling, realizing full contact between the clamping device and the ceiling. This ensures installation reliability.

[0040] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the clamping member is pivotally connected to the sliding base by means of a pivot hinge extending perpendicularly to the height direction, wherein the pivot hinge is supported between the two base lateral surfaces. The mounting system comprises a stop plate which maintains the clamping device in the first position when the stop plate interacts with the clamping member and allows the clamping device to be reset from the first position to the second position when the interaction between the stop plate and the clamping member is released.

[0041] Preferably, the stop plate is fixedly connected to the circumferential wall and together with the circumferential wall forms a passage through which the clamping device can pass, wherein when the pivot hinge is higher than a lower edge of the stop plate, the stop plate presses down on the clamping member, thereby causing the clamping member to be collapsed in the sliding base ; and wherein when the pivot hinge is below the lower edge of the stop plate, the stop plate no longer presses down on the clamping member, thereby causing the clamping member to spring outwardly from the sliding base.

[0042] The clamping device can be inserted between the stop plate and the circumferential wall as required, allowing the clamping member to be stowed in the sliding base, for example when it is necessary to insert the housing into the mounting hole of the ceiling. It is also possible to rotate this drive screw as required so as to disengage this clamping device from a gap between this stop plate and the circumferential wall, thereby allowing the clamping member to be spring from the sliding base so as to achieve pre-locking of the housing.

[0043] According to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, the clamping  member is formed from sheet metal. Preferably, the entire clamping device is made of metal.

[0044] In addition, another aspect of the present disclosure relates to a loudspeaker apparatus comprising a loudspeaker and the above-mentioned mounting system.

[0045] FIG. 1 schematically illustrates a loudspeaker apparatus according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, which is constructed, for example, as a ceiling loudspeaker. The loudspeaker apparatus comprises a mounting system 2 as shown in FIG. 1 and a loudspeaker 4 not visible in FIG. 1.

[0046] The mounting system 2 comprises a housing 20, clamping devices 30, stop plates 40 and driven screws 52.

[0047] The housing 20 is constructed substantially cylindrically. As shown in FIG. 1, the housing 20 has a chamfered triangular cross-sectional shape, however, in embodiments not shown, the housing 20 may also have other shaped bottom surfaces, such as circular, rectangular, etc. The housing 20 comprises a circumferential wall 202 and a mounting flange 204 projecting outwardly from the circumferential wall 202. Furthermore, the housing 20 comprises a mounting base 206 as shown in FIG. 3, which together with the circumferential wall 202 and the mounting flange 204 define an interior space, in which the loudspeaker 4 is arranged. The loudspeaker 4 works in a known manner and is not described herein.

[0048] Three clamping devices 30 are provided on the circumferential wall 202 of the housing 20. Each of the clamping devices 30 is capable of moving up and down in a height direction z with respect to the housing 20 so that the ceiling is clamped by the cooperating action of the clamping device 30 with the mounting flange 204.

[0049] As shown in FIG. 4, there are three clamping devices 30 disposed at uniform angular distances dispersed on the circumferential wall 202. As a result, a reliable installation of the loudspeaker apparatus can be guaranteed.

[0050] The mounting device 30 comprises a sliding base 302 and a clamping member 304.

[0051] The sliding base 302 comprises a sliding surface 3022 slidably abutting on the circumferential wall 202, a base bottom surface 3024 extending parallel to the mounting flange 204 and two base lateral surfaces 3026 opposed to each other. Each of the base lateral surface 3026 comprises long sides extending longitudinally in the height direction z and narrow sides  perpendicular thereto, wherein the sliding surface 3022 is connected to the long sides of the two base lateral surfaces 3026, and the base bottom surface 3024 is connected to the narrow sides of the two base lateral surfaces 3026.

[0052] The clamping member 304 comprises an L-shaped sheet metal member that includes a first segment 3042 and a second segment 3044. The both segments are constructed in one piece and an acute angle is formed between the segments. The clamping member 304 is pivotally connected to the sliding base 302. For this purpose, a pivot hinge 308 extending perpendicular to the height direction z is supported between the two base lateral surfaces 3026, and the first segment 3042 pivots about the pivot hinge 308 with its upper end portion. The lower end portion of the first segment 3042 is transitionally connected to one end of the second segment 3044, and the free end of the second segment 3044 points inwardly to the circumferential wall 202 of the housing 20.

[0053] The clamping device 30 is capable of switching between a first position, in which the clamping member 304 is retracted in the sliding base 302 and a second position, in which the clamping member 304 springs outwardly from the sliding base 302 and opposes to the mounting flange 204 thereby being able to clamp the plate member by a cooperating action of the clamping member 304 with the mounting flange 204. The clamping device 30 could be able to automatically reset from the first position to the second position. The clamping device 30 comprises a pre-loading member 306. In the present embodiment the pre-loading member 306 is constructed as a spring. The spring acts on the first segment 3042 of the clamping member 304, thereby pre-loading the clamping member 304 outwardly with respect to the sliding base 302. Thus, the pre-loading member 306 prompts the clamping device 30 to bias to the second position.

[0054] The clamping device 30 is able to slide up and down in the height direction z of the housing 20 along the circumferential wall 202. The mounting system 2 comprises a driven screw 52 as shown in FIG. 3. This driven screw 52 passes through the base bottom surface 3024 and the mounting flange 204, wherein a chuck is provided at the mounting flange 204 for restricting the axial movement of the driven screw 52 and a mating threaded portion is provided at the base bottom surface 3024 that can act in conjunction with the driven screw 52, so as to realize the lifting and lowering of the clamping device 30 along the height direction z by the  rotation of the driven screw 52. When the driven screw 52 is rotated in a clockwise direction, for example, the sliding base 302 is driven upwardly in the height direction z. When the driven screw 52 is rotated in a counterclockwise direction, for example, the sliding base 302 is driven downwardly in the height direction z. Of course, it is also possible to change the relationship between the direction of rotation of the driven screw 52 and the direction of movement of the sliding base 302. That is, when the driven screw 52 is rotated in the clockwise direction, for example, the sliding base 302 is driven downwardly in the height direction z. When the driven screw 52 is rotated in the counterclockwise direction, for example, the sliding base 302 is driven upwardly in the height direction z.

[0055] In addition, the sliding surface 3022 of the sliding base 302 comprises a guide groove 3022a extending longitudinally in the height direction z, the circumferential wall 202 comprises a fixedly connected guide member 50, wherein the guide member 50 is movably supported in the guide groove 3022a, thereby guiding the sliding of the clamping device 30 in the height direction z. As shown in FIG. 3, the guide member 50 is constructed as a guide screw.

[0056] The mounting system 2 also comprises a stop plate 40. The stop plate 40 maintains the clamping device 30 in the first position when the stop plate 40 interacts with the clamping member 304 and allows the clamping device 30 to be reset from the first position to the second position when the interaction between the stop plate 40 and the clamping member 304 is released. In the present embodiment, the stop plate 40 is constructed as a frame member comprising two lateral edges opposed to each other and a connecting strip connecting these two lateral edges. The connecting strip of the stop plate 40 extends between the two base lateral surfaces 3026 and the stop plate 40 is fixedly attached to the circumferential wall 202 of the housing 20 with its two lateral edges. Thereby, the stop plate 40, together with the circumferential wall 202, constitutes a passage through which the clamping device 30 can pass. When the pivot hinge 308 is higher than a lower edge of the stop plate 40, the stop plate 40 presses down on the first segment 3042 of the clamping member 304, thereby causing the clamping member 304 to be collapsed in the sliding base 302; and wherein when the pivot hinge 308 is below the lower edge of the stop plate 40, the stop plate 40 no longer presses down on the first segment 3042 of the clamping member 304, thereby causing the clamping member 304 to spring outwardly from the sliding base 302. To facilitate the outwardly spring of the  clamping member 304, a crimped lip 402 is provided on the lower edge of the stop plate 40.

[0057] The following describes the operating of the mounting system 2 with reference to FIGS. 5 to 7.

[0058] As shown in FIG. 5, the pivot hinge 308 of the clamping device 30 is higher than the lower edge of the stop plate 40, whereby the clamping member 302 of the clamping device 30 is stowed in the sliding base 302, wherein the first segment 3042 extends parallel to the height direction z, and the second segment 3044 is fully accommodated in the sliding base 302. Thus, the stop plate 40 maintains the clamping device 30 in the first position. Currently, the upper portion of the housing 20 and the clamping device 30 are able to pass through the mounting hole opened in the ceiling and located above the ceiling, while the mounting flange 204 of the housing 20 remains below the ceiling.

[0059] When the driven screw 52 is rotated in a counterclockwise direction, for example, the sliding base 302 and the clamping member 304 pivotally connected to the sliding base 302 are driven downwardly in the height direction z. When the pivot hinge 308 is below the lower edge of the stop plate 40, the stop plate 40 no longer presses down on the first segment 3042 of the clamping member 304, thereby causing the clamping member 304 to spring outwardly from the sliding base 302. The clamping device 30 biases automatically from the first position to the second position. In the second position as shown in FIG. 6, the first segment 3042 of the clamping member 304 forms an angle of no greater than 15° with the height direction z, and the second segment 3044 springs outwardly from the sliding base, thereby the second segment 3044 and the mounting flange 204 are opposed to each other, and the second segment 3044 extends beyond the edge of the mounting hole of the ceiling. At this point, a distance D between this second segment 3044 and the mounting flange 204 is greater than the thickness of the ceiling 6.

[0060] When the driven screw 52 is further rotated in a counterclockwise direction, the sliding base 302 and the clamping member 304 pivotally connected to the sliding base 302 are driven to move further downwardly in the height direction z. Then the distance D is continuously decreasing until the ceiling 6 is clamped by the second segment 3044 and the mounting flange 204 from both sides, as shown in FIG. 7.
