Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to sensing signal communication. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) receives, from a base station (BS), a configuration of at least one resource of the UE for sensing signal communication. Further, the UE receives, from the BS, a sensing indication that indicates to the UE to transmit a sensing signal to a sensing BS or a sensing UE. Moreover, the UE transmits the sensing signal via the at least one resource of the UE to the sensing BS or the sensing UE. The at least one resource of the UE for sensing signal communication is a common resource for sensing signal communication by the sensing BS or the sensing UE. In this way, it is allowed to achieve efficient sensing of the environment or object.

[0078] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0079] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0080] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0081] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU.

[0082] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0083] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1 c, F1 u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links .

[0084] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0085] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0086] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0087] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0088] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0089] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0090] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0091] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0092] In a scenario of bi-static sensing mode, a UE (also referred to as UE 1) is responsible for transmitting a sensing signal, which may then be received and detected by a BS (also referred to as BS 1) serving the UE 1, a neighboring BS (also referred to as BS 2) , or another UE (also referred to as UE 2) , or a combination of them.

[0093] Further, inventors notice that the legacy uplink transmission is conducted on pre-configured uplink slots and further transmission is based on uplink grant scheduling., and similarly, legacy sidelink transmission is executed on pre-configured sidelink slots / resource pools and further transmission is based on sidelink grant scheduling in Mode 1, while in Mode 2, the sidelink transmission is based on UE autonomous resource selection. However, for sensing signal transmission and reception, the sensing signal may be transmitted to both the BS (s) and other UE (s) simultaneously. From a sensing signal reception perspective, the BS (s) and other UE (s) should perform detection on the same resource for the sensing signal. But, based on the current communication mechanism, in an uplink slot, other UE (s) don’ t perform reception, and meanwhile, the BS (s) don’ t perform reception on a sidelink slot.

[0094] As of now, there is no efficient approach to support the resource configuration and / or indication to facilitate the reception of the sensing signal. In view of the above, how to support sensing signal communication efficiently, especially, considering the resource configuration / indication to allow the efficient sensing signal reception, is still an open issue to be solved.

[0095] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution to resolve the above occurred issue. In one aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a UE receives, from a BS, a configuration of at least one resource of the UE for sensing signal communication.

[0096] By allowing the resource (s) to be configured to the sensing BS or the sensing UE for sensing signal communication, this solution can support efficient resource determination for sensing signal communication. In this way, it is possible to achieve efficient sensing of the environment or object.

[0097] FIG. 1B illustrates another example of a wireless communications system 120 associated with aspects of the present disclosure. Specifically, FIG. 1B illustrates similar entities or functions as shown in FIG. 1A. For example, the details discussed above regarding the network entity102 and the UE 104 with reference to FIG. 1A can also apply to FIG. 1B. For the purpose of simplification, the details will be omitted.

[0098] As shown in FIG. 1B, the wireless communications system 120 may comprise a UE 121 and a BS 122 serving the UE 121. The wireless communications system 120 may further comprise a UE 123 served by the BS 122. The UE 121 and / or the UE 123 may be implemented by the UE 104 as shown in FIG. 1A. The BS 122 may be implemented by the network entity 102 as shown in FIG. 1A. One or more of the UEs 121 and 123 and the BS 122 may communicate with one or more further devices not shown in FIG. 1B.

[0099] In the sensing scenario, the wireless communications system 120 may further comprise a sensing object 124. In this case, the UE 121 may transmit a sensing signal for sensing the sensing object 124. The sensing signal may pass through the sensing object 124, and may be impacted (for example, reflected, refracted, or diffracted) by the sensing object 124, and then be received by the BS 122 and / or UE 123. The data regarding the sensing object 124 obtained by the BS 122 and / or UE 123 may then be used to obtain meaningful information (for example, characteristics) about the sensing object 124.

[0100] It is to be understood that the particular number of various communication devices and the particular number of various communication links as shown in FIG. 1B is for illustration purpose only without suggesting any limitations. The communications system 120 may include any suitable number of communication devices and any suitable number of communication links for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. In addition, it should be appreciated that there may be various wireless as well as wireline communications (if needed) among all of the communication devices.

[0101] It is to be understood that, the communications in the communications system 120 may follow any suitable communication standards or protocols, which are already in existence or to be developed in the future, for example, as those discussed above with reference to FIG. 1A.

[0102] FIG. 1C illustrates a further example of a wireless communications system 130 associated with aspects of the present disclosure. Specifically, FIG. 1C illustrates similar entities or functions as shown in FIG. 1A. For example, the details discussed above regarding the network entity102 and the UE 104 with reference to FIG. 1A can also apply to FIG. 1C. For the purpose of simplification, the details will be omitted.

[0103] As shown in FIG. 1C, the wireless communications system 130 may comprise a UE 121, a BS 122, a UE 123, and a sensing object 124. Details of the functions or communication regarding the UE 121, the BS 122, the UE 123, and the sensing object 124 are similar to those discussed in FIG. 1B, and for the purpose of simplification, the details will be omitted.

[0104] The wireless communications system 130 may further comprise a UE 131, a BS 132 serving the UE 131, a UE 133, a BS 134 serving the UE 133, and a BS 135. As shown in FIG. 1C, the sensing signal transmitted by the UE 121 and impacted (for example, reflected, refracted, or diffracted) by the sensing object 124 may further be received by the UE 131, the BS 132, the UE 133, and the BS 134. The data regarding the sensing object 124 obtained by one or more of the UE 131, the BS 132, the UE 133, and the BS 134 and the data regarding the sensing object 124 obtained by the BS 122 and / or UE 123 may then be used together to obtain meaningful information (for example, characteristics) about the sensing object 124. One or more of the UEs 121, 123, 131, and 133 and the BSs 122, 132, 134, and 135 may communicate with one or more further devices not shown in FIG. 1C.

[0105] It is to be understood that the particular number of various communication devices and the particular number of various communication links as shown in FIG. 1C is for illustration purpose only without suggesting any limitations. The communications system 130 may include any suitable number of communication devices and any suitable number of communication links for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. In addition, it should be appreciated that there may be various wireless as well as wireline communications (if needed) among all of the communication devices.

[0106] It is to be understood that, the communications in the communications system 130 may follow any suitable communication standards or protocols, which are already in existence or to be developed in the future, for example, as those discussed above with reference to FIG. 1A.

[0107] Reference is now made to FIG. 2, which illustrates an example process flow 200 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1B and FIG. 1C, and the process 200 may involve a UE 121, a BS 122, and a UE 123 as shown in FIG. 1B and FIG. 1C. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that process 200 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0108] As shown in FIG. 2, the BS 122 transmits (205) , to the UE 121, a configuration of at least one resource of the UE 104 for sensing signal communication. The at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be referred to as a resource pool for sensing signal communication. The at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be used for the transmission and reception of a sensing signal.

[0109] In some embodiments, the at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be a common resource for sensing signal communication by a sensing BS (for example, at least one of the BSs 122, 132, and 134) or a sensing UE (for example, at least one of the UEs 123, 131, and 133) . In other words, the at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be known for sensing signal communication by the sensing BS or the sensing UE. The at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be (pre-) configured to the sensing BS and / or the sensing UE for sensing signal communication. In other words, the at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be used for sensing signal communication by sensing BS and / or the sensing UE. Taking the UE 123 as an example of the sensing UE receiving the sensing signal, the BS 122 may also transmit (210) a configuration of the at least one resource for sensing signal communication to the UE 123.

[0110] For example, in the communication scenario as shown in FIG. 1B, the at least one resource for the transmission and reception of the sensing signal may be (pre-) configured by the BS 122 or a sensing function, and may be (pre-) configured to the UE 121 and / the UE 123 by the BS 122.

[0111] As another example, in the communication scenario as shown in FIG. 1C, the at least one resource for the transmission and reception of the sensing signal may be (pre-) configured by one of the BSs 122, 132, and 134 to one or more other BSs of the BSs 122, 132, and 134, or (pre-) configured by a sensing function. The UEs 121, 123, 131, and 133 may obtain the configuration of the at least one resource from their serving BS respectively. In this case, the at least one resource may be a common resource pool for the transmission and reception of the sensing signal among multiple BSs and UEs. In this case, based on the common resource pool, it is allowed to ensure that the transmission of the sensing signal may be received by both the neighboring cell (s) and the other UE (s) located in the neighboring cell (s) , as well as by the serving cell and the other UE (s) located in the serving cell.

[0112] In some embodiments, the at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be a time-domain resource, or a frequency-domain resource, as discussed below.

[0113] In some embodiments, a frame structure (i.e., slot pattern) may be (pre-) configured to include, in addition to a downlink slot, an uplink slot or a sidelink slot, a (pre-) configured slot (i.e., a new slot type, for example, also referred to as a sensing (SE) slot) for sensing signal communication, that is, for sensing signal transmission by a UE (for example, by the UE 121) and reception by one or more BSs (for example, one or more of the BSs 122, 132, and 134) and / or one or more UEs (for example, one or more of the UEs 123, 131, and 133) . For example, the time domain resource for sensing signal communication may comprise a slot or one or more symbols in the time domain.

[0114] In some implementations, the time-domain resource for sensing signal communication may comprise an uplink slot or one or more symbols of an uplink slot. In other words, the time-domain resource may be indicated from an uplink slot set and may be indicated as an entire uplink slot or one or more uplink symbols. FIGS. 3A and 3B illustrate example resources for sensing signal communication. As shown in FIG. 3A, the resource for the sensing signal may be a subset of uplink slots, i.e., an entire slot. As shown in FIG. 3B, the resource for the sensing signal may be a portion of an uplink slot, consisting of n symbols (also referred to as n SE symbols) out of 14 symbols. The n symbols may be located either at the beginning or the end of the uplink slot.

[0115] In some implementations, the time-domain resource for sensing signal communication may comprise a special slot or one or more symbols of a special slot. In other words, the time-domain resource may be indicated from a special slot set and may be indicated as an entire special slot or one or more special symbols. FIGS. 3C illustrates an example resource for sensing signal communication. As shown in FIG. 3C, the resource for the sensing signal may be a component of a special slot, for example, one or symbols associated with the uplink pilot time slot (UpPTS) within the special slot.

[0116] In some implementations, the time-domain resource for sensing signal communication may comprise a sidelink slot or one or more symbols of a sidelink slot. In other words, the time-domain resource may be indicated from a sidelink slot set and may be indicated as an entire uplink slot or one or more sidelink symbols.

[0117] In some embodiments, the frequency-domain resource for sensing signal communication may be indicated in a variety of ways. For example, the frequency-domain resource for sensing signal communication may comprise one or more resource blocks. As another example, the frequency-domain resource for sensing signal communication may comprise one or more bandwidth parts. As a further example, the frequency-domain resource for sensing signal communication may comprise (or in other words, be indicated by) one or more serving cells corresponding to one or more frequency bands.

[0118] Alternatively or additionally, the at least one resource for sensing signal communication may be pre-defined for sensing signal communication. In this case, the UE 121, the sensing BS (for example, one or more of BSs 122, 132, and 134) and the sensing UE (for example, one or more of UEs 123, 131, and 133) may obtain the at least one resource for sensing signal communication based on the specification. In this case, the operations 205 and 210 may not be needed.

[0119] Referring back to FIG. 2, the BS 122 transmits (215) , to the UE 121, a sensing indication that indicates to the UE 121 to transmit a sensing signal to the sensing BS or the sensing UE. In this case, the BS 122 may transmit the sensing indication to schedule the UE 121 for the transmission of the sensing signal. The sensing indication may be transmitted based on a physical layer (for example, via downlink control information (DCI) ) or a layer higher than the physical layer.

[0120] In some embodiments, the sensing indication for the sensing signal transmission may indicate a resource of the at least one resource for transmitting the sensing signal. Accordingly, the UE 121 may transmit the sensing signal on the indicated resource. For example, the indicated time / frequency domain resource for the transmission of the sensing signal may comprise a time domain resource located in a (pre-) configured slot designated for the sensing signal communication as discussed above.

[0121] In some embodiments, the sensing indication for the sensing signal transmission may indicate a slot type from a plurality of slot types. The plurality of slot types may comprise at least a first slot type and a second slot type. The first slot type may correspond to a slot structure comprising a sensing signal region carrying the sensing signal (for example, a region carrying a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) ) and a data region (for example, a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) ) carrying data, without a control region which is used to indicate the sensing signal and data region for decoding. FIG. 3D illustrates an example of a slot with the first slot type. The second slot type may correspond to a slot structure comprising a sensing signal region carrying the sensing signal, a data region carrying data, and, additionally, a control region carrying information for decoding (or detecting) at least one of the sensing signal or the data. FIG. 3E illustrates an example of a slot with the second slot type. The control region can be used to ensure that the sensing signal and / or data can be effectively decoded by neighboring cell (s) or other UE (s) served by a neighboring cell. For example, a 1-bit field may be used to indicate the slot type, where value ‘1’ may represent the first slot type and value ‘0’ may represent the second slot type. On this basis, if the sensing indication indicates the first slot types, a slot (also referred to as a first slot) on which the sensing signal is transmitted may comprise the sensing signal region and the data region, as shown in FIG. 3D; and if the sensing indication indicates the second slot type, a slot (also referred to as a second slot) on which the sensing signal is transmitted comprises the sensing signal region, the data region, and the control region, as shown in FIG. 3E.

[0122] In some embodiments, the sensing indication for the sensing signal transmission may indicate the presence or absence of the control region.

[0123] In some embodiments, the sensing indication may indicate a resource for the control region. For example, the sensing indication may indicate the time and / or frequency resource of the control region, if applicable. The time / frequency resource of the control region may be smaller than or equal to the time / frequency resource allocated for the transmission of the sensing signal. For example, the time domain resource for the control region may be indicated based on the symbol number of the control region, for example, 2 symbols (for example, symbol #1 and symbol #2) or 3 symbols (for example, symbol #1, symbol #2, and symbol #3) . In this case, for instance, a 1-bit field may be used, where value ‘1’ may represent 2 symbols and value ‘0’ may represent 3 symbols. As an example implementation, if the control region exists, symbol #0 may be used as an AGC symbol.

[0124] In some embodiments, the sensing indication may indicate a sensing signal pattern of the sensing signal. The sensing signal pattern may comprise the number (for example, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. ) of at least one symbol for the sensing signal, or a location of the sensing signal (for example, the symbol index where the sensing signal is located) . FIGS. 3F and 3G illustrate example sensing signal patterns. As shown in FIG. 3F, two sensing signal symbols are distributed within one slot. As shown in FIG. 3G, three sensing signal symbols are centralized within one slot.

[0125] In some embodiments, one or more above-mentioned transmission parameters indicated in the sensing indication for the sensing signal transmission from the BS 122 may be (pre-) configured. For example, the BS 121 may transmit, to the UE 121, at least one configuration corresponding to the at least one resource. For example, a parameter configuration of the at least one configuration may comprise at least one of the slot type, the presence or absence of the control region, the resource for the control region, or the sensing signal pattern of the sensing signal. Alternatively or additionally, one or more other UEs (for example, one or more of UEs 123, 131, and 133) may receive such at least one parameter configuration corresponding to the at least one resource for sensing signal communication from their serving BS (s) respectively.

[0126] Referring back to FIG. 2, based on the configuration (s) (for example, the resource configuration and / or the transmission parameter configuration (s) if any) and the sensing indication from the BS 122, the UE 121 transmits (220) the sensing signal via the at least one resource to the sensing BS or the sensing UE. For example, the UE 121 may transmit the sensing signal on the at least one resource with one or more of the above-mentioned (pre-) configured or indicated transmission parameters. The sensing signal may be monitored, detected, and received by the sensing BS (for example, one or more of BSs 122, 132, and 134) or the sensing UE (for example, one or more of UEs 123, 131, and 133) . In this case, the sensing BS and / or the sensing UE may monitor a sensing signal, and in response to detecting a sensing signal, receive the sensing signal via the at least one resource for sensing signal communication.

[0127] In some embodiments, if the sensing indication indicates the resource of the at least one resource used for transmitting the sensing signal, the UE 121 may transmit the sensing signal on the indicated resource. For example, the indicated time / frequency domain resource for the transmission of the sensing signal may comprise a time domain resource located in a (pre-) configured slot designated for the sensing signal communication as discussed above. In this case, the UE 121 may transmit the sensing signal on the indicated resource based on the network schedule, ensuring that the scheduled sensing signal transmission occurs on the indicated resource. The BS 121 may perform reception for potential sensing signal transmission (s) on the scheduled (i.e., indicated) resource. One or more other BSs (for example, one or more of BSs 132 and 134) may perform reception on the one or more (pre-) configured resources to detect the sensing signal transmission. For example, the one or more other UEs may monitor or perform blind detection for the potential sensing signal transmission on the at least one resource (pre-) configured for sensing signal communication.

[0128] Alternatively or additionally, the UE 162 may perform autonomous resource selection from the one or more (pre-) configured resources. For example, from the slot for sensing signal transmission (pre-) configured by the BS 121, the UE 121 may perform a resource selection for the transmission of the sensing signal on the (pre-) configured slot. In this case, the sensing BS (for example, one or more of BSs 122, 132, and 134) and / or the sensing UE (for example, one or more of UEs 123, 131, and 133) may perform reception for potential sensing signal transmission (s) on the one or more (pre-) configured resources.

[0129] According to some embodiments with reference to FIGS. 2 to 3G, it is allowed to enable both the BS (s) and other UE (s) to perform reception on the (pre-) configured resource (s) for the sensing signal. In this way, it is possible to support efficient resource determination for the sensing signal communication, and thus facilitate efficient sensing of the environment or object.
