Abstract
Description
WAIST BUCKLE ASSEMBLYField
[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to a waist buckle assembly, especially a waist buckle assembly adapted for being used in conjunction with a device such as a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) , a compressed air pipeline breathing apparatus, a respiratory protective apparatus, and a warm and / or cool air regulating valve. Background
[0002] If a user works in environments with poor air quality (e.g., environments with excessive dust, or those requiring protection against bacteria or viruses) , he or she will have to be equipped with a PAPR. For example, such a PAPR comprises a main unit and a breather mask, both of which are in fluid communication with each other by a hose. The main unit is usually configured to suck in and filter ambient air and deliver filtered air (or purified air) to the breather mask by the hose. The breather mask is worn on the user’s face such that he or she can breathe the purified air to ensure good health. Besides, in hot and cold workplaces, a cold and / or warm air regulating valve apparatus is required, wherein such a valve apparatus is secured onto human’s waist by a waist buckle through a waist belt, and a gas inlet joint of the valve apparatus is required to be coupled to a compressed air pipeline.
[0003] To facilitate work, it is necessary to secure the hose or pipeline relative to the user's body to prevent the hose or pipeline from undesired swinging around the user's body. Conventionally, the waist buckle is used to secure the hose or pipeline relative to the user’s body. For example, the waist belt can pass through the waist buckle to correspondingly secure it. However, such a traditional waist buckle does not enable the hose or pipeline to be rotatable relative to the waist belt or cannot be lockable at a given rotational position. This will result in that during usage of the waist buckle the hose or pipeline might be unexpectedly deformed to affect smooth delivery of the purified air, causing breathing difficulties for the user. Besides, in the traditional waist buckle, although it might be provided with a joint for connection with the hose or pipeline, this joint is unlockable at a given rotational position, causing the hose or pipeline to become entangled and thus unexpectedly deformed, and affecting smooth delivery of the purified air therethrough.Summary
[0004] To solve the above issues, the present disclosure is aimed at proposing a novel waist buckle assembly such that a joint for connection with a hose of a breather mask to be attachable by the waist buckle assembly is suitably rotatable and lockable as desired, to enhance the smoothness and reliability of air delivery.
[0005] Using the technical measures of the present disclosure, the housing equipped with the joint is reliably rotatable relative to the waist buckle and is lockable relative to the latter as desired for temporary fixation therebetween, preventing the hose connected with the joint from being entangled to affect smooth delivery of air by the hose.

[0013] Embodiments
[0014] In the drawings of the present disclosure, features having the same configuration or a similar function are denoted by the same reference numerals respectively.
[0015] A waist buckle assembly discussed in the present disclosure can be used in conjunction with an apparatus such as a PAPR which requires a hose to be secured relative to a user’s body. Fig. 1 schematically illustrates a non-limited example of such an apparatus (taking the PAPR for example) . It should be understood by those skilled in the art that any other suitable apparatus which requires the hose to be secured relative to the user’s body can adopt the waist buckle assembly as described or claimed by the present disclosure.
[0016] As shown by Fig. 1, the PAPR generally comprises a main unit (or alternatively called as a blower unit) 200 and a breather mask 300. The main unit 200 is configured to suck in ambient air and purify the same. The breather mask 300 can be worn on the user’s face. A hose is disposed between the main unit 200 and the breather mask 300, to enable both to be in fluid communication therebetween. The hose for example can comprise a first hose segment 210A and a second hose segment 201B. The first hose segment 210A is in fluid communication with a gas inlet of the breather mask 300 at one end and with a gas outlet of the waist buckle assembly 100 at the other end, respectively. Moreover, the second hose segment 210B is in fluid communication with a gas discharging port of the main unit 200 at one end and with a gas inlet of the waist buckle assembly 100, respectively. The waist buckle assembly 100 can be secured relative to a user’s body by a waist belt 400. For example, the main unit 200 can be also secured relative to the user’s body by an additional backside strap.
[0017] Fig. 2 is a front view schematically illustrating a waist buckle assembly 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For example, the waist buckle assembly 100 comprises a waist buckle 110. The waist buckle 110 has a body. Two elongated openings, i.e. a first opening 111 and a second opening 112, are formed at left and right sides of the waist buckle 110 or its body respectively. The body has a proximal surface which is curved to fit the contour of the user’s waist (or human’s waist) . The two openings are sized such that the waist belt 400 can pass through them and thus the waist buckle can be fastened onto the user’s waist by the waist belt 400. In this way, the waist buckle 110 can be secured relative to the user’s body or alternatively put on the ground.
[0018] In Fig. 2, a surface of the waist buckle 110 adjacent to an observer or a surface of the waist buckle 110 adjacent to the user can be regarded as a proximal surface; contrarily a surface of the waist buckle 110 departing from the observer (referring to Fig. 3) can be regarded as a distal surface. In the context of the present disclosure, a proximal side or a distal side of a feature as concerns can be understood similarly. That is, a side of the feature adjacent to the user of the waist buckle assembly 100 can be defined as a proximal side of the feature, and a side of the feature departing from the user of the waist buckle assembly 100 can be defined as a distal side of the feature.
[0019] As shown, the waist buckle assembly 100 also comprises a housing 130. The housing 130 is rotatably installed relative to the waist buckle 110 or the body of the waist buckle 110. For example, the housing 130 is rotatable relative to the waist buckle 110 about an axis which for example is substantially perpendicular to a plane where Fig. 2 locates. In other words, the housing 130 is rotatable about an axis which is parallel to the normal direction of the body of the waist buckle 110. A first tube joint 151 and a second tube joint 152 are provided in the housing 130. A channel or passage is formed in the housing 130, by which channel or passage the first tube joint 151 and the second tube joint 152 are in fluid communication with each other. The first tube joint 151 and the second tube joint 152 are able to be respectively connected to the first hose segment 210A and the second hose segment 210B. In the context of the present disclosure, the two tube joints 151 and 152 can be regarded as a single tube joint which is connected in series in the hose comprised of the first hose segment 210A and the second hose segment 210B. Additionally or alternatively, a regulating valve 153 is disposed in the housing 130. The regulating valve 153 is equipped with a third tube joint 154. For example, the third tube joint 154 is able to be connected with an additional hose segment, which additional hose segment can be used for delivery of additional gasses such as oxygen or the like. The regulating valve 153 is configured for regulating the third tube joint 154 and / or for opening or closing the channel or passage between the first tube joint 151 and the second tube joint 152.
[0020] As shown by Fig. 3, a boss 113 is provided in or extends integrally from a distal surface of the body of the waist buckle 110. For example, the boss 113 can substantially extend axially from the distal surface of the body of the waist buckle 110 along a direction departing from its proximal surface. Further as shown by Fig. 5, a central recess 114 is recessed in the distal surface of the body of the waist buckle 110. The boss 113 and the central recess 114 are provided such that they are coaxial with each other. A through hole 114a is formed in the central recess 114.
[0021] As shown by Fig. 5, a positioning sleeve 115 extends axially from the boss 113 along a distal direction (or distally) . The positioning sleeve 115 is provided to be coaxial with the through hole 114a. As shown by Fig. 4, a plurality of teeth 115a are formed in an inner circumferential wall or side of the positioning sleeve 115 such that they are evenly spaced from each other.
[0022] As shown by Fig. 5, a receptacle 131 extends axially from the housing 130 along a proximal direction (or proximally) . A catch receiving sleeve 132 extends axially from the housing 130 along the proximal direction and within a hollow interior of the receptacle 131. For example, the receptacle 131 and the catch receiving sleeve 132 are provided to be coaxial with each other. The receptacle 131 is axially sized such that it is smaller than the catch receiving sleeve 132. That is to say, the catch receiving sleeve 132 has a free end which protrudes axially beyond the receptacle 131. For example, the catch receiving sleeve 132 can be configured such that it extends axially from a proximal surface 130a of the housing 130 within the hollow interior of the receptacle 131. Moreover, the through hole 114a extends from a proximal surface 114c of the central recess 114 to an opposite distal surface 114b of the central recess 114. The catch receiving sleeve 132 is configured to be divided axially into a first section and a second section. The first section is proximal to the second section. Therefore, the first section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 is an outer periphery which is sized such that it can cooperate with an inner periphery of the through hole 114a (for example both being cylindrical and the cylinder of the first section having an outer diameter which is equal to or slightly less than an inner diameter of the through hole 114a) . Therefore, when the first section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 is received by the through hole 114a, relative rotation between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110 is achievable. Furthermore, the positioning sleeve 115 has an outer periphery which is cylindrical, such that it can be readily inserted into a space surrounded by a cylindrical inner wall of the receptacle 131 to enable the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110 to be rotated relative to each other. Therefore, when the positioning sleeve 115 is inserted in the receptacle 131 and the first section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 is inserted in the through hole 114a, the housing 130 can be rotated relative to the waist buckle 110 or the waist buckle can be rotated relative to the housing about an axis. This axis is the above-mentioned axis which is parallel to the normal direction of the body of the waist buckle 110 or a rotational axis between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110. Meanwhile, when the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110 are coupled to each other as such, an accommodation space 133 is generated in the interior of the receptacle 131 of the housing 130, especially between the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 distal to the first section and the inner circumferential wall or side of the positioning sleeve 115 in which the plurality of teeth 115a are provided for example, as shown by Fig. 4. For instance, when the housing 130 is coupled to the waist buckle 110 in place, the accommodation space 133 extends axially between the proximal surface 130a of the housing 130 and the distal surface 114b of the central recess 114. In an embodiment of the present disclosure, when the housing 130 is coupled to the waist buckle 110 in place, an outer peripheral end face of the receptacle 131 abuts against an outer peripheral end face of the boss 113 which is formed to surround the positioning sleeve 115. Moreover, an end face of the positioning sleeve 115 inserted in the receptacle 131 is in contact with or is slightly separated from the proximal surface 130a of the housing 130, preferably not affecting the relative rotation between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110.
[0023] A receiving hole 1321 is formed in the catch receiving sleeve 132. Viewed axially, the receiving hole 1321 can extend from an end of the catch receiving sleeve 132 along the distal direction (or distally) through a zone where the first and second sections of the catch receiving sleeve 132 locate. For example, the receiving hole 1321 can be formed to be coaxial with the rotational axis between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110. When the positioning sleeve 115 is inserted in the receptacle 131 and the first section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 is inserted in the through hole 114a in place, a fasten button 120 can be inserted at least partially into the receiving hole 1321 of the catch receiving sleeve 132 from the proximal surface of the waist buckle 110, especially from the central recess 114 of the waist buckle 110. For example, the fasten button 120 has a head 121 and a fasten part 122 extending axially from the head 121. The head 121 is radially sized such that it is radially greater than the fasten part 122. Furthermore, the receiving hole 1321 is for example provided with inner threads to engage outer threads provided in an outer surface of the fasten part 122 by screwing them therein, to enable the head 121 to securely abut against the proximal surface of the central recess 114. In this way, the body of the waist buckle 110 is clamped axially between the housing 130 and the fasten button 120, especially its head 121, preventing the housing 130 from being accidentally removed from the waist buckle 110. It is preferred if an axial force exerted by the head 121 on the proximal surface of the central recess 114 does not affect the relative rotation between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110. In an alternative embodiment of the present disclosure, the fasten part 122 can be fixed in the receiving hole 1321 for example by an interference fit.
[0024] A sectional cutting plane used for obtaining the cross-section of Fig. 4 is substantially perpendicular to the rotational axis between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110 and passes through a zone where the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 locates. It can be seen that in the accommodation space 133 the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 is shaped non-cylindrically rather than cylindrically like the first section of the catch receiving sleeve 132. For example, the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 is formed with two stepped parts 1322 and 1323 which are oppositely cut therefrom. The two oppositely cut stepped parts 1322 and 1323 can extend axially in the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132. A catch (or a catch plate) 140 is disposed in the accommodation space 133 between the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 and the inner circumferential wall or side of the positioning sleeve 115 in which the plurality of teeth 115a are provided. For example, the catch 140 can be made by a resilient plate such as a resilient metal plate. In the illustrated embodiment, the catch 140 can be formed by a bent metal plate to have an intermediate contact point 141 and two opposite positioning terminals 142 and 143 at opposite ends. For example, each of the positioning terminals 142 and 143 is formed by flipping an edge of the metal plate at the respective end. The entire catch 140 is generally arc-shaped, such that in the accommodation space 133 the two positioning terminals 142 and 143 of the catch 140 can be received in the stepped parts 1322 and 1323 respectively and the contact point 141 of the catch 140 can be received between two adjacent teeth 115a of the positioning sleeve 115. It can be seen in Fig. 4 that a line where the two stepped parts 1322 and 1323 locate does not pass through the rotational center of the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132. In the accommodation space 133, the catch receiving sleeve 132 is configured such that its second section is spaced from the inner circumferential wall of the positioning sleeve 115 in which the plurality of teeth 115a are formed, and thus that the relative rotation between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110 is not affected negatively.
[0025] The catch 140 is formed such that it is compressed or slightly compressed between the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 and the inner circumferential wall or side of the positioning sleeve 115 in which the plurality of teeth 115a are formed, especially along a thickness direction of the catch 140 or in other words radially (viewed in Fig. 4) . Moreover, the catch 140 is bent and / or shaped such that there is always a clamping force, exerted by the positioning terminals 142 and 143, between the stepped parts 1322 and 1323. Therefore, no matter how the housing 130 is rotated relative to the waist buckle 110, the catch 140 can be held securely relative to the positioning sleeve 115. In the illustrated embodiment, the contact point 141 of the catch 140 is shaped such that it can be readily received in a trough between two adjacent teeth 115a such that a force can be exerted between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110 to stop the relative rotation therebetween.
[0026] As shown by Fig. 4, when the housing 130 is rotated relative to the waist buckle 110, the positioning sleeve 115 of the body of the waist buckle 110 can be rotated relative to the housing 130, especially relative to its receptacle 131 and its catch receiving sleeve 132 about a common rotational axis (whose direction is perpendicular to the plane of Fig. 4) . Meanwhile, a magnitude of the force exerted by the catch 140 between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110 can be determined for example by a distance between the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 and the inner circumferential wall or side of the positioning sleeve 115, the degree of bending of the catch 140 or its resilience property or its flexibility or other suitable factors. Moreover, the magnitude of the force shall be sufficient to stop the relative rotation between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110; but if an external force is suitably applied by the user, the external force can slightly deform the catch 140 such that its contact point 141 can be detached from the trough where it originally is received to allow the relative rotation between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110. During the relative rotation, one or more troughs can be crossed by the contact point. Then, at a suitable position, the contact point 141 can engage another trough again. That is to say, the force exerted by the catch 140 between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110, especially the force exerted by the contact point 141 onto the positioning sleeve 115 on the housing 130 can serve as a temporary positioning function. Therefore, a plurality of troughs between the plurality of adjacent teeth 115a of the positioning sleeve 115 can be used to define different temporary rotational stopping positions of the housing 130 relative to the waist buckle 110 or its body, i.e., rotational stopping positions.
[0027] In the above embodiment, the catch 140 and the troughs between the adjacent teeth 115a together constitute a non-limited example of position stopping features between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110. In a not-shown alternative embodiment, the position stopping features can be formed in this way in which the outer circumferential surface of the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 can be formed cylindrically and a plurality of teeth can be formed thereon such that they are distributed circumferentially adjacent to each other; these adjacent teeth are defined with troughs therebetween; a catch similar to the catch 140 can be similarly disposed between an inner circumferential surface of the positioning sleeve 115 and an outer circumferential surface of the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 (for example, in this case, steps are formed in the inner circumferential surface of the positioning sleeve 115 to secure opposite terminals of the catch thereto respectively, such that a contact point between the opposite terminals of the catch can be used to selectively engage one of the troughs formed in the outer circumferential surface of the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132 in a manner similar to the catch 140) .
[0028] In an embodiment alternative to the illustrated embodiment, the catch 140 can be replaced by a resilient pin which is disposed to be radially extendible in the second section of the catch receiving sleeve 132. For example, such a resilient pin can be disposed in a radial blind hole of the catch receiving sleeve 132 and a spring is disposed in the blind hole such that the resilient pin is always subjected to a force acting radially outward and the resilient pin can selectively engage one of the troughs formed in the inner circumferential surface of the positioning sleeve 115 to serve as a temporary rotational stopping function (between the housing 130 and the waist buckle 110) .
[0029] Although some specific embodiments of the present disclosure have been described here, they are given for illustrative purposes only and cannot be deemed to constrain the claimed scope of the present disclosure in any way. Besides, it should be understood by those skilled in the art that the embodiments and / or examples described here can be combined with each other in any feasible ways. Without departing from the spirits and scopes of the present disclosure, various replacements, modifications, and reconstructions can be thought out.
