Description

TITLE OF INVENTION:A VEHICLETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present subject matter generally relates to a vehicle. More particularly, but not exclusively to a routing of cables connecting one or more second sensors of the exhaust assembly in a vehicle.BACKGROUND

[0002] In vehicle design, particularly concerning exhaust systems, the integration and management of sensors play a critical role in ensuring optimal engine performance and adherence to emission standards. Exhaust systems commonly feature various sensors, such as oxygen sensors, that monitor exhaust gases before they leave the exhaust system. In conventional exhaust systems, a catalytic converter is deployed to cure the combustion products leaving the internal combustion engine before they are released into the atmosphere. The structural configuration and critical function of the catalytic converter in curing of emissions makes the catalytic converter an indispensable component in the exhaust assembly. Therefore, there arises a need for monitoring and diagnosing conversion efficiencies of the catalytic converter to adjudge safe operationality of the catalytic converter.

[0003] In order to adjudge safe operationality and monitoring of the catalytic converter, oxygen sensors are disposed in an upstream portion of the catalytic converter and a downstream portion of the catalytic converter. The comparison of values between the oxygen sensors deduces the conversion efficiency and safe operationality of the catalytic converter.

[0004] The disposition of the oxygen sensors in a compact vehicle layout such as in saddle type vehicle surfaces problems of proper routing of the cables extending from the disposed oxygen sensor. Traditionally, routing cables for these sensors has been challenging. Conventional methods sometimes lead to cluttered wiring, which can adversely affect servicing, component performance, and overall visual appeal. For instance, the cables extending from the oxygen sensor may be disposed in vicinity of the exhaust pipe, loose routing of the cable may lead to the cable interacting with the transmission assembly which may yield wear and tear of the cable. Further, the exhaust assembly and the internal combustion engine are designated hot zones of the vehicle, therefore any undesirable interaction of a portion of the cable with the hot zones of the vehicle leads to inaccuracies in signal transmission through the cables.

[0005] Proper cable routing and component positioning are essential to enhance vehicle performance and durability while addressing functionality and aesthetics. Therefore there arises a need in the art to securely route cables extending from oxygen sensors isolated from hot zones of the vehicle towards a main wiring harness of the vehicle, such that interaction of the routed cables with vehicle components and environmental factors be minimized.

[0006] One of the conventional methods for routing cables involves using built-in ducts or channels moulded into the vehicle’s frame. These channels offer a dedicated space for cables, guiding them along predetermined paths while safeguarding them from mechanical damage and heat. However, this involves channels that are fixed in design and size, which can limit flexibility for future modifications or upgrades. Additionally, integrating these ducts during the manufacturing process can increase production complexity and costs. Fixed-size channels may also not accommodate different cable types or additional sensors, potentially leading to limitations in adaptability

[0007] Another conventional method for routing cables is by using of flexible conduits, which encase cables in a protective, adaptable covering that can bend and conform to various shapes and routing paths. Over time, conduits can wear out or become damaged, especially in high-stress areas, compromising their protective qualities. Maintenance can be more cumbersome, as accessing or replacing cables within flexible conduits may require significant effort..

[0008] Yet another conventional solution may involve custom trays, designed to route multiple cables with features like clips, channels, or compartments that keep them organized. Custom trays come with their own limitations. Designing and installing custom trays can be complex, particularly in vehicles with limited space or unique shapes. Once installed, custom trays offer limited adjustability, making future modifications or repairs more difficult. If a cable needs to be accessed or replaced, the entire tray system might need to be disassembled, which can be time-consuming and cumbersome.

[0009] Another traditional method is by integrating wiring directly into structural components or vehicle panels during the manufacturing process provides a seamless and aesthetically pleasing solution. However, integrating wiring into structural components requires advanced planning and design, which increases manufacturing complexity and costs. Repairing or modifying embedded wiring can be particularly challenging, often requiring significant disassembly or replacement of structural components, making repairs costly and time-consuming. Additionally, this method limits the flexibility to adapt or upgrade wiring after the vehicle has been manufactured.

[0010] Thus, there is a need in the art for a method and a system for routing of cables in a vehicle which addresses at least the aforementioned problems and other problems of known art.

[0011] Further limitations and disadvantages of conventional and traditional approaches will become apparent to one of skill in the art, through comparison of described systems with some aspects of the present disclosure, as set forth in the remainder of the present application and with reference to the drawings.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The exhaust pipe (110) is mechanically connected to the muffler (112), and the catalytic converter is installed inside the muffler (112). In an embodiment the sensors (114) may be an oxygen sensors.

[0056] In an embodiment among the plurality of sensors (114), a first sensor (114a) is positioned on the exhaust pipe (110) in a region between the exhaust port and the catalytic converter, such a sensor is also called as an upstream oxygen sensor. This disposition of the first sensor 114a (upstream sensor) atthis location is to determine the concentration of Oxygen in the exhaust gas before entering the catalytic converter. Further one or more second sensor (114b) is placed after the catalytic converter, specifically on the muffler (112), with its sensing end facing the exhaust gas flow path. This configuration of the one or more second sensor (114b) at this location is also called as a downstream sensor, which is provided to determine the exhaust gas Oxygen concentration after passing through the catalytic converter. The oxygen concentration from the upstream sensor and downstream sensor (114a, 114b) is used to determine the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Further the plurality of sensors (114) are electrically connected through a network of cables (116).

[0057] In an aspect, one or more catalytic converters are disposed in the exhaust assembly of the vehicle 100. In this configuration, a first catalytic converter may be disposed in the exhaust pipe, and a second catalytic converter is disposed in the muffler at a downstream end of the first catalytic converter. In this configuration the first sensors 114a location remains unchanged, while one second sensor 114b is disposed on the downstream end of the first catalytic converter, and another second sensors 114b is disposed in the downstream end of the second catalytic converter. The one or more cables extending from the one or more second sensors are routed towards the wiring harness as explained in the following paragraphs.
