[0004] The present invention relates to a hygienic pad / panty containing aromatic essential oil coated with an encapsulation method for vaginal infection prevention. The invention uses low doses of essential oils to provide high stability, reduced toxicity, ease of use, and high bioavailability.
[0005] State of the Art
[0006] Today, approximately 300 of the more than three thousand known essential oils are used in a variety of industries. Health, food, and cosmetics are among the most common applications. Since they have their physiological effects, they are used as fragrance and flavoring in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, as well as a flavoring and preservative in the food industry. It is used in aromatherapy applications such as inhalation, massage, and baths etc. With the widespread use of aromatherapy applications in recent years, essential oils, which are primarily used for inhalation and local application by the general public, are now being used internally to treat a variety of ailments. They are commonly used as diffusers or sprays to reduce stress and tension and improve sleep quality; as inhalers provide aid in treating respiratory system diseases such as colds, flu, sinusitis, and bronchitis; internally to relieve pain in digestive system disorders; topically to treat skin problems; and even to facilitate childbirth.
[0007] Essential oils are known for their antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiparasitic, insecticidal, antiinflammatory, analgesic, sedative, and antihypertensive properties.
[0008] The invention uses Nioli essential oil obtained from Melaleuca quinquenervia. In addition, Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree oil) may alternatively be used.
[0009] Nioli (Melaleuca Quinquenervia) is a tree species that grows along the coasts of Papua New Guinea and Australia, typically reaching 8-15 meters in length. It spreads in seasonal floodplains and swamps. The tree's paper-like bark serves as both fuel and shelter. Nioli oil is made by distilling water vapor from the tree's young branches and leaves. The oil has a sweet, camphoraceous, and strong smell.
[0010] According to the monograph in the Turkish Pharmacopoeia 2017, Nioli essential oil is extracted through steam distillation from the young leafy branches of Melaleuca Quinquenervia (Cav.) S.T Blake.
[0011] Melaleuca Quinquenervia's essential oil constitutes approximately 55% of 1,8-cineole. Commission E monographs specify that the cineol content of the drug should be between 40% and 60%. Furthermore, linalool (23.9%), viridiflorol (40-45%), and nerolidol (75.2-92%) chemotypes are also found.
[0012] The phytochemical studies revealed more than forty compounds in the essential oil obtained from M. quinquenervia leaves, and in addition to the major 1,8-cineole, viri difluorol, p- cymene, y-terpinene, a-pinene, a-terpineol, terpinolene, limonene, ledol, P-pinene, caryophyllene, P-terpinyl acetate, carveol and longifolene were among the compounds detected in relatively high amounts in different samples.
[0013] The use of Nioli oil in upper respiratory tract infections is recorded in Commission E monographs as 0.2-2 g / day internally, as a 2-5% mixture in vegetable oil in the form of nasal drops, and externally as a mixture containing 10-30% essential oil in oil. Furthermore, various sources suggest that nioli essential oil can be used to treat colds, influenza, cough, sinusitis, pharyngitis, rhinitis, rheumatic disorders, skin disorders, and neuralgia.
[0014] Nioli oil, derived from the eucalyptus tree, is a type of oil used primarily in skin care due to its structure, which is high in antioxidants, moisturizes the skin with healthy oils like oleic acid and strearic acid, and prevents aging.
[0015] Nioli oil is widely used in the cosmetics industry, as well as in therapeutic formulations like mouthwashes, wound creams, and burn treatments. Nioli oil has pain relief, antiseptic, and wound-healing-accelerating properties. Its aromatic scent is used for stress relief, as well as to increase focus and attention. It is used in aromatherapy alongside oils like eucalyptus, thyme, and peppermint.

[0018] The Object of the Invention
[0019] Urinary tract infections and vaginal yeast infections, both common in women, are recurrent diseases. Nioli oil is commonly used to treat urinary tract infections and vaginal yeast infections by placing a few drops directly on the panty. This method of use has drawbacks. The dosage cannot be adjusted in this application, and because nioli oil is volatile, there is a stability issue. The patient also has difficulty purchasing nioli oil and applying it to her panty.
[0020] The difficulties and drawbacks of using nioli oil with conventional methods are eliminated by the women's pad / panty created with this invention. The invention uses low doses of nioli oil to provide high stability, reduced toxicity, ease of use, and high bioavailability.
[0021] Method of Preparation
[0022] The nioli essential oil used in the invention's women's pad / panty is coated with an encapsulation method with the primary objective to protect the sensitive components while also releasing them in a time-adjusted amount. The encapsulation method protects at least one active substance with at least one type of coating material, as long as it is released under the proper conditions and dose.
[0023] The material used in encapsulation must be biocompatible and biodegradable, while also ensuring the stability of the active ingredient. Controlled release systems have numerous advantages, including improved efficacy, high stability against enzymatic degradation of encapsulated or immobilised components, low toxicity, and ease of application.
[0024] Release systems can take various forms, including spheres, capsules, rods, membranes, and slabs. Their dimensions can vary depending on their intended use, ranging from nano to micro to milli levels. These forms, known as micro- and nanoparticles, can transport active substances such as drugs, vitamins, minerals, volatile aromatic compounds, and nutraceuticals. The primary goal of encapsulation is to protect sensitive components while releasing them in a time-dependent manner. There are several common techniques for encapsulating active substances in microparticles or nanoparticles. These techniques include thermal phase separation (coacervation), spray cooling and freezing, melt dispersion, solvent evaporation, fluidized bed coating, spray drying, water and organic phase homogenization, rotational suspension separation, extrusion, and inclusion complexing.
[0025] The most important consideration in the encapsulation of essential oils is to preserve the essential oil's natural composition after encapsulation.
[0026] In this invention, Nioli essential oil is encapsulated in a way that closely resembles its natural structure. The formulation contained 8% Nioli oil, 52% water, 38% maltodextrin, and 2% gum arabic. Spray drying was used to re-encapsulate Nioli oil. The encapsulated powder products were analysed for water activity, moisture, and GC-MS. The water activity of the encapsulated powder products produced was 0.18, and the moisture content was 1.2. Powder products in the food industry are thought to be stable at a moisture content of less than 3% and a water activity (aw) value of less than 0.3. These results indicate that the powder product's stability has been achieved.
[0027] Nioli oil can be used in the formulation with a ratio of 1-50%, with 8% being the preferred amount. The encapsulation method can be used with a spray dryer or a variety of techniques such as coacervation, extrusion, fluidized bed coating, and the supercritical fluid method.
