Description

WIRELESS COMMUNICATION METHOD AND RELATED APPARATUSESTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present application relates to wireless communication technologies, and more particularly, to a wireless communication method and related apparatuses.BACKGROUND ART

[0002] In cellular wireless communication systems developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) , user equipment (UE) is connected by a wireless link to a radio access network (RAN) . The RAN includes a set of base stations (BSs) which provide wireless links to UEs located in cells covered by the base station and an interface to a core network (CN) which provides overall network control. The RAN and CN each conduct respective functions in relation to the overall network. The so-called 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) system, namely, an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunication System Territorial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) has been developed for a mobile access network where one or more macro-cells are supported by a base station known as an eNodeB or eNB (evolved NodeB) . Evolved from LTE, the so-called 5G or new radio (NR) systems where one or more cells are supported by a base station known as a gNB. Envisioned to succeed the current 5G networks, the 6G cellular system is the forthcoming generation of wireless communication technology.

[0003] In the related arts, narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) has been standardized by the 3GPP to provide wide-area, low-power, and low-cost connectivity for massive Internet of Things (IoT) devices. To extend the coverage of NB-IoT beyond terrestrial networks, the 3GPP has further introduced the concept of non-terrestrial networks (NTN) , in which satellites, for example, are used to relay communication between the user equipments and the core network. An Iridium satellite communication system, as an example of the NTN-based systems, provides low Earth orbit (LEO) mobile-satellite service (MSS) for duplex communication between satellites and ground terminals.

[0004] To enable the deployment of a NB-IoT NTN system, the NB-IoT NTN system may have to be designed to coexist with the existing Iridium satellite service. The design of synchronization signal reception, system information acquisition, and narrowband physical random access channel (NPRACH) transmission for the narrowband IoT needs to be adapted to the existing Iridium satellite service. Accordingly, efficient coexistence between the NB-IoT NTN system and the Iridium satellite system are of significant importance.SUMMARY

[0059] More specifically, in the interest of coexisting with the existing Iridium system, where the basic downlink slot is 8.25 ms, the present disclosure refers to the downlink slot as “Iridium downlink slot” for simplicity. Thus, the IoT NTN downlink transmission needs to be within Iridium downlink slot. To this end, a set of consecutive IoT NTN downlink subframes (each subframe is 1 ms duration) may be defined. In some examples, 7 consecutive IoT NTN downlink subframes (7 ms duration) or 8 consecutive IoT NTN downlink subframes (8 ms duration) may be defined as shown in FIG. 3. Other numbers of consecutive subframes are contemplated for the Iridium downlink slot according to aspects of the present application.

[0060] Moreover, from the legacy NB-IoT frame structure, the display of downlink common signal / channel is given in FIG. 4, where the essential signal / channels are NB primary synchronization signal (NPSS) , NB secondary synchronization signal (NSSS) , NB physical broadcast channel (NPBCH) for downlink synchronization and system information block 1 (SIB1) -NB for essential system information. In the example shown in FIG. 4, SFN refers to system frame number, and one frame is made up by 10 subframes, where the length of each frame may be 10 ms and the length of each subframe may be 1 ms.

[0061] Therefore, in the non-limiting 8 downlink (DL) subframe (use D for short) example for IoT NTN TDD, the possible locations of the D can be 4 choices as shown in FIG. 5. In the non-limiting 7 DL subframe example, the possible locations of D can be 2 choices. Note that the criterion of the selection of the possible location is that the D should cover the essential DL common signal / channel, the difference among the candidate D choices is the relative downlink common signal / channel location within the D subframes. When performing IoT NTN TDD, the UE expects to receive downlink reception only within D subframes and there is no IoT NTN TDD downlink transmission outside D subframes. The period of the D subframes is 90 ms or multiple of 90 ms, as shown in FIG. 6.

[0062] UE detecting NPSS, NSSS and NPBCH

[0063] In some embodiments, the method further comprises detecting the NPSS, wherein the NPSS is transmitted in each set of downlink subframes periodically. In one embodiment, the method further includes detecting the NSSS after the NPSS is detected, wherein essential signals, channels or blocks in each set of downlink subframes forms a downlink subframe pattern, and the NSSS is monitored at a unique NSSS location with respect to a location of the NPSS in the set of downlink subframes. In another embodiment, the method further includes detecting the NSSS after the NPSS is detected, wherein the NSSS is monitored at at least two possible NSSS locations with respect to a location of the NPSS in the set of downlink subframes. In some embodiments, the method further comprises receiving the NPBCH in a subframe next to the NSSS. In some embodiments, the method further comprises deriving a downlink subframe pattern, which is formed by essential signals, channels or blocks in each set of downlink subframes, according to a detected NPSS or NSSS, wherein an association exists between downlink subframe pattern and a sequence of the NPSS or the NSSS.

[0064] More specifically, UE detects NPSS, assuming that the NPSS period is multiple of 90 ms, e.g., namely, 90 ms, 180ms, etc.

[0065] After UE detects the NPSS, the UE will continue to detect NSSS. In some examples, the UE may assume a default D pattern. The D pattern is one of the above-mentioned multiple candidate D choices and the default D pattern is pre-defined. The advantage of defining a default D pattern is that the UE knows the unique NSSS location relative to the NPSS location within D subframes. For example, the default D pattern is the one in FIG. 7, the NSSS location is 6 subframe prior to NPSS within D subframes. Thus, after detecting the NPSS, the UE can detect the NSSS in the unique NSSS location, leading to reduced UE power saving.

[0066] Alternatively, it is not defined as a unique default D pattern, which implies that multiple candidate D choices are possible. In this case, there are two possible NSSS location relative to NPSS within D subframes, e.g., 6 subframes prior to NPSS or 4 subframes after NPSS, as shown in FIG. 8. Thus, as the UE does not know which of the D pattern is implemented by the network, the UE would have to detect NSSS in two different locations.

[0067] Alternatively, there is an association between D pattern and NPSS and / or NSSS sequence. When the UE detects NPSS and / or NSSS, the UE can derive which D pattern is implemented according to the association rule.

[0068] After UE detects NSSS, the UE continues to receive the NPBCH in a subframe next to the NSSS as shown in FIG. 9.

[0069] IoT NTN TDD radio frame indexing

[0070] In some embodiments, a hyper system frame number (SFN) contains a number of radio frames that occupies a length of time which is multiple of a period of the sets of downlink subframes, and the downlink subframes in different hyper SFN have a same relative location.

[0071] More specifically, SFN index from 0 to 1007 and a hyper SFN contains 1008 radio frames which is multiple of 90 ms period, so that the D subframes in different hyper SFN will have the same relative location as shown in FIG. 10.

[0072] UE receiving SIB1-NB

[0073] In some embodiments, the method further comprising receiving the specific SIB for the NB, wherein a transmission time interval (TTI) for the specific SIB is defined to be equal to m*n*Period, where the parameter Period is a period of the sets of downlink subframes, m is an integer number which indicates a number of subframes that are needed to carry overall payload of the specific SIB, and n is an integer number which indicates a frequency for the UE to receive a subframe of the specific SIB within n*Period. For example, the specific SIB for the NB comprises system information block 1 (SIB1) -NB.

[0074] More specifically, in this example, D subframes periodicity is assumed to be 90 ms. A SIB1-NB transmission time interval (TTI) is defined to be equal to m*n*90 ms, where m is an integer number which indicates the number of subframes that are needed to carry overall SIB1-NB payload, and n is also an integer number which indicates a frequency for the UE to receive a SIB1-NB subframe within n*90 ms period. For example, when n=1, it indicates that the UE receives SIB1-NB subframe once every 90 ms (also known as D subframe period) , when n=2, it indicates that UE receives SIB1-NB subframe once every 180 ms (every two D subframe periods) . The choice of value n is relevant to the latency of SIB1-NB reception. In some examples, m=8 means that the SIB1-NB payload is carried by 8 subframes. For example, when m=8 and n=2, it means that the SIB1-NB is transmitted over 8 SIB1-NB subframes for a duration of 1440 ms; the UE receives 1 SIB1-NB subframe every 2 D subframe period (180 ms) up to receive 8 SIB1-NB subframes in total as shown in FIG. 11.

[0075] UE receiving other system information block (SIB)

[0076] In some embodiments, the method further comprises determining a system information (SI) window, wherein the SI window is determined according to a SI window start, a SI window length and a SI window period; and receiving another system information block different from the specific SIB for the NB according to the SI window. In some embodiments, the SI window start is aligned with a start of the set of downlink subframes, the SI window length is a multiple of a period of the sets of downlink subframes, and the SI window period is also a multiple of the period of the sets of downlink subframes. In some embodiments, the SI window start is determined based on a legacy NB-IoT SI window start subframe number plus an offset, which indicates a subframe offset between a radio frame boundary and a boundary of the set of downlink frames.

[0077] More specifically, for receiving SIB, UE needs to determine the system information (SI) window, the SI window is determined according to SI window start, SI window length and SI window period. The SI window start should be aligned with D subframe start; the SI window length is a multiple of D subframe period (x*90 ms, with x being an integer value) ; the SI window period is also a multiple of D subframe period (y*90 ms with y being an integer value) as shown in FIG. 12.

[0078] In some examples, the SI window start can be determined from legacy NB-IoT SI window start subframe number (SF) N plus an offset. The legacy NB-IoT SI window start is from a radio frame boundary, but in IoT NTN TDD mode, the D subframe may not be aligned with radio frame as shown in FIG. 13. Thus, there is an offset to indicate the subframe offset between the radio frame boundary and the D subframe boundary (SF level offset) , as shown in FIG. 11.

[0079] Configuration of D subframe

[0080] In some embodiments, the specific SIB for the NB provides a configuration of the downlink subframes, and the configuration of the downlink subframes comprises at least one of a number of the downlink subframes in a set, a period of a plurality of groups of the sets of downlink subframes, a number of the sets of downlink subframes, and locations of the sets of downlink subframes. In one embodiment, a number of consecutive downlink subframes in different sets of downlink subframes is same. In another embodiment, a number of consecutive downlink subframes in different sets of downlink subframes is different. In some embodiments, at least one guard period containing one or more downlink subframes, slots or symbols is configured between two adjacent sets of downlink subframes, and no IoT NTN transmission exists in the at least one guard period. A start of the at least one guard period is configured to be relative to a start location of a group of the sets of downlink subframes. The at least one guard period separates the group of the sets of downlink subframes into multiple sets of downlink subframes.

[0081] More specifically, in some examples, when UE receives SIB1-NB, the network may provide the configuration of actual D subframe, including the number of the D subframes, and / or the actual D subframe periodicity, and / or the number of D subframe sets, and / or the location (s) of the D subframe sets. One D subframe set contains 7 or 8 consecutive downlink subframes. Within D subframe period, there may be one or more D subframe sets. The number of consecutive downlink subframes in different D subframe sets may be same or different. The network configures the first subframe location of the D subframe set, as shown in FIG. 14.

[0082] In some other examples, as shown in FIG. 15, the network may configure a D subframe that contains more than 8 subframes. Moreover, the network may configure one or more guard periods within the D subframes, a guard period contains one or more subframes and / or one or more downlink slots and / or one or more symbols. There is no IoT NTN transmissions in the guard period. The network may configure the start location of the one or more guard periods and the guard period length. The start location of the guard period may be relative to the start location of the D subframe. The guard period separate a D subframe into multiple D subframe sets. Each D subframe set duration is no longer than 8 ms.

[0083] Configuration of U subframes

[0084] In some embodiments, the method further comprises being configured with uplink subframes, wherein one or more sets of uplink subframes are configured within a period of groups of the sets of uplink subframes. In one embodiment, the period of groups of the sets of uplink subframes is as the same as a period of groups of the sets of downlink subframes. In another embodiment, the period of groups of the sets of uplink subframes is different from a period of groups of the sets of downlink subframes. In some embodiments, at least one guard period containing one or more uplink subframes, slots or symbols is configured between two adjacent sets of uplink subframes, and no IoT NTN transmission exists in the at least one guard period. A start of the at least one guard period is configured to be relative to a start location of a group of the sets of uplink subframes. The at least one guard period separates the group of the sets of uplink subframes into multiple sets of uplink subframes.

[0085] More specifically, Similar to D subframe configuration, the network may configure uplink subframe (referred to as the “U subframe” for short) . The U subframe period may be same as or different from D subframe period. There may be one or more U subframe sets within a U subframe period. An U subframe set contains up to 8 consecutive uplink subframes. In some examples, the network configures the first subframe location of each U subframe set, as shown in FIG. 16.

[0086] In some other examples, as shown in FIG. 17, the network may configure a U subframe that contains more than 8 subframes. Moreover, the network may configure one or more guard periods within the U subframes, a guard period contains one or more subframes and / or one or more uplink slots and / or one or more symbols. There is no IoT NTN transmissions in the guard period. The network may configure the start location of the one or more guard period and the guard period length. The start location of the guard period may be relative to the start location of the U subframe. The guard period separates a U subframe into multiple U subframe sets. Each U subframe set duration is no longer than 8 ms.

[0087] Determination of NPRACH location

[0088] In some embodiments, the method further comprises sending a NB-IoT physical access random channel (NPRACH) in uplinks subframes, wherein a NPRACH period is a multiple of a period of sets of uplink subframes, and the NPRACH period determines a reference radio frame, which is a multiple of one-tenth of the NPRACH period. In some embodiments, the NPRACH starts to be transmitted from a start location, which is within one set of uplink subframes. In one embodiment, the start location of the NPRACH is a first subframe of an incoming set of uplink subframes after the reference radio frame. In another embodiment, the start location of the NPRACH is shifted by an offset from a beginning of an incoming set of uplink subframes after the reference radio frame. In yet another embodiment, the start location of the NPRACH is shifted by an offset from a beginning of the reference radio frame.

[0089] More specifically, the NPRACH transmission time domain location determination is similar to SI window determination. It is based on start location, and NPRACH period. The NPRACH period is a multiple of 90 ms and the NPRACH period determines a reference radio frame. For example, when the NPRACH period is 180 ms, the reference radio frame index satisfies mod (radio frame index, NPRACH period / 10) =0, thus, the reference radio frame index in the present example are 0, 18, 36, . . . . Then, the start location can be the first subframe of the next U subframe after the reference radio frame as shown in FIG. 18. Alternatively, the start location can be shifted by an offset from the beginning of the next U subframe after the reference radio frame as shown in FIG. 19. Alternatively, the starting location can be shifted by an offset from the beginning of the reference radio frame as shown in FIG. 20. It is to note that the start location needs to be in U subframe, if after an shift by offset, the start location is not in U subframe, further delay should be considered until it falls into U subframe. In some examples, UE only transmits NPRACH transmission from start location.

[0090] NPDCCH monitoring location

[0091] In some embodiments, the method further comprises monitoring a NB physical downlink control channel (NPDCCH) based on a NPDCCH monitoring period and a NPDCCH monitoring starting subframe, wherein the NPDCCH monitoring period is a multiple of a period of the sets of downlink subframes, and the NPDCCH monitoring starting subframe is configured by the network and is a subframe within one set of downlink subframes. In some embodiments, when the NPDCCH starting subframe falls into a guard period, the NPDCCH starting subframe is delayed to a next available downlink subframe, slot or symbol.

[0092] More specifically, in some examples, the network may configure NPDCCH monitoring location for a UE. The NPDCCH monitoring location is determined at least by a NPDCCH monitoring period and one or more NPDCCH monitoring starting subframes. The NPDCCH monitoring period is a multiple of 90 ms. An NPDCCH monitoring starting subframe is configured by the network and it is a subframe within D subframe. The NPDCCH monitoring starting subframe cannot be in a guard period as described above. Therefore, when a starting subframe falls into guard period, the starting subframe is delayed to the next available downlink subframe or available downlink slot or available downlink symbol as shown in FIG. 21.

[0093] NPDSCH / NPUSCH scheduling

[0094] In some embodiments, the method further comprises receiving a downlink control information (DCI) ; determining a starting subframe of a NB physical downlink shared channel (NPDSCH) scheduled by the DCI, based on at least one of a first delay, a second delay and a location of the DCI scheduling the NPDSCH; and receiving the NPDSCH from the starting subframe, wherein the DCI scheduling the NPDSCH is carried in a NPDCCH, the first delay is a pre-defined delay used as processing time to decode the DCI, and the second delay is a subframe offset provided in the DCI. In some embodiments, when the NPDCCH ends in subframe n, the starting subframe for the NPDSCH is an available subframe after subframe n+D1+D2, where n is an integer, D1 represents the first delay, and D2 represents the second delay. In one embodiment, when the subframe n+D1+D2 falls outside one set of downlink subframes, the starting subframe for the NPDSCH is further delayed to a first available downlink subframe in a next set of downlink subframes, where the available downlink subframe is one downlink subframe available for receiving the NPDSCH. In another embodiment, when the subframe n+D1+D2 falls outside one set of downlink subframes, the starting subframe for the NPDSCH is further delayed to a subframe with an offset starting from a first downlink subframe in a next set of downlink subframes. The offset is smaller than or equal to the second delay, and only an available downlink subframe is counted when counting the offset.

[0095] In some embodiments, the method further comprises receiving a downlink control information (DCI) ; determining a starting subframe or slot of a NB physical uplink shared channel (NPUSCH) scheduled by the DCI, based on at least one of a third delay, a fourth delay and a location of the DCI scheduling the NPUSCH; and sending the NPUSCH from the starting subframe, wherein the DCI scheduling the NPUSCH is carried in a NPDCCH, the third delay is a pre-defined delay used as a round trip delay, and the fourth delay is a subframe offset provided in the DCI. In some embodiments, the NPDCCH ends in subframe n, the starting subframe or slot for the NPDSCH is a first subframe or slot after subframe n+D3+D4, where n is an integer, D3 represents the third delay, and D4 represents the fourth delay. In one embodiment, when the subframe n+D3+D4 falls outside one set of uplink subframes, the starting subframe or slot for the NPUSCH is further delayed to a first uplink subframe or slot in a next set of uplink subframes. In another embodiment, when the subframe n+D3+D4 falls outside one set of downlink subframes, the starting subframe or slot for the NPUSCH is further delayed to a subframe or slot with an offset starting from a first uplink subframe or slot in a next set of uplink subframes. The offset is smaller than or equal to the fourth delay.

[0096] More specifically, in some examples, when the network schedules the UE to receive downlink transmission (NPDSCH) , the UE needs to determine the NPDSCH starting subframe. The starting subframe is determined based on a first delay (D1) and / or a second delay (D2) and / or the location of the scheduling DCI carried in NPDCCH and / or D subframe location. The D1 may be a pre-defined delay, which is used to absorb the UE processing time to decode the scheduling DCI. The D2 delay is a subframe offset provided in the scheduling DCI format N1 or N2. When the NPDCCH ends in subframe n, the starting subframe for NPDSCH is next available subframe after subframe n+D1+D2. However, in some cases, the subframe n+D1+D2 falls outside the D subframe. In this case, the starting subframe should be further delayed to the first available downlink subframe in the next period of D subframe as shown in FIG. 22, where the available downlink subframe implies the downlink subframe available for receiving NPDSCH, e.g., excluding the subframe containing system information, synchronization signal, guard period. Alternatively, the starting subframe is an offset subframe starting from the first subframe in the next period of D subframe as shown in FIG. 23, where the offset value is smaller than or equal to D2. It is to note that when counting the offset, only the available downlink subframe is counted.

[0097] In some examples, when the network schedules the UE to transmit uplink transmission (NPUSCH) , the UE needs to determine the NPUSCH starting subframe. The starting subframe or starting slot is determined based on a first delay (D3) and / or a second delay (D4) and / or the location of the scheduling DCI carried in NPDCCH and / or U subframe location. The D3 may be a pre-configured delay by the network, which is used to absorb the round trip delay between the base-station / satellite / uplink synchronization reference point and the UE. The D4 is a subframe offset provided in the scheduling DCI format N0. When the NPDCCH ends in subframe n, the starting subframe or starting slot for NPDSCH is the first subframe or slot after subframe n+D3+D4. However, in some cases, the subframe n+D3+D4 falls outside the U subframe. In this case, the starting subframe or starting slot is further delayed to the first uplink subframe or the first uplink slot in the next period of U subframe as shown in FIG. 24. Alternatively, the starting subframe or starting slot is shifted by a number of subframes starting from the first subframe in the next period of U subframe as shown in FIG. 25, where the number of shifted subframes is smaller than or equal to D4.

[0098] Determination of segment for uplink pre-compensation

[0099] In some embodiments, when an initial segment for uplink transmission crosses two sets of uplink subframes, the initial segment is split into two segments, which are transmitted in the two sets of uplink subframes, respectively. In one embodiment, the two sets of uplink subframes are separated by a guard period. In another embodiment, the two sets of uplink subframes are separated by a period of the sets of uplink subframes. In some embodiments, a duration of the initial segment for uplink transmission is pre-defined, or pre-configured by the network, or reported by the UE.

[0100] More specifically, when UE performs uplink transmission, the time and frequency pre-compensation needs to be adjusted within uplink segment. But since the transmission in U subframe may not be continuous, the UE needs to determine a suitable segment according to the U subframe pattern. The segment is determined from an initial segment duration, which may be pre-defined or pre-configured by the network or reported by the UE itself. Then the UE needs to adapt the initial segment to actual segment based on the U subframe pattern. An uplink segment is an uplink transmission duration. When an uplink transmission within an initial segment crosses two U subframe sets, e.g. crossing a guard period, the initial segment is split into two segments. The uplink transmissions before and after the guard period are considered as separate segments as shown in FIG. 26. In some examples, when uplink transmissions are in different U subframes, they are also considered in separate segments as shown in FIG. 27.

[0114] A person having ordinary skill in the art understands that each of the units, algorithm, and steps described and disclosed in the embodiments of the present application are realized using electronic hardware or combinations of software for computers and electronic hardware. Whether the functions run in hardware or software depends on the condition of application and design requirement for a technical plan. A person having ordinary skill in the art can use different ways to realize the function for each specific application while such realizations should not go beyond the scope of the present application. It is understood by a person having ordinary skill in the art that he / she can refer to the working processes of the system, device, and unit in the above-mentioned embodiment since the working processes of the above-mentioned system, device, and unit are basically the same. For easy description and simplicity, these working processes will not be detailed.

[0115] It is understood that the disclosed system, device, and method in the embodiments of the present application can be realized with other ways. The above-mentioned embodiments are exemplary only. The division of the units is merely based on logical functions while other divisions exist in realization. It is possible that a plurality of units or components are combined or integrated in another system. It is also possible that some characteristics are omitted or skipped. On the other hand, the displayed or discussed mutual coupling, direct coupling, or communicative coupling operate through some ports, devices, or units whether indirectly or communicatively by ways of electrical, mechanical, or other kinds of forms.
