The upper portions of the first leg and the second leg are connected via a connecting portion that forms a handle allowing manually moving the table.
[0004] One application of the table is a so-called side table. It may be used for adding a handy surface in a living space. The handle allows the side table to be carried easily between different positions in the living space.
[0005] One known such a side table comprises a circular table top with a projecting rim at its peripheral edge. The side table further comprises four legs connected to the table top adjacent the peripheral edge, wherein the legs are positioned in corners of a square shape and extend generally vertically. The first leg and the second leg are arranged diagonally opposite each other and extend through holes in the table top. Further, the connecting portion forming the handle bridges a distance between the upper portions of the first leg and the second leg. For an efficient packaging, the upper portions of the first leg and the second leg and the connecting portion forms a generally U-shaped one-piece unit. When assemblying the side table, lower portions of the first leg and the second leg are attached to the U-shaped one-piece unit via threaded connections.

[0008] A first object of the invention is to provide a table that creates conditions for being arranged in a folded state, in which the table assumes a generally flat configuration. The object is achieved by a device according to claim 1. Thus, it is achieved by a table comprising a table top and a plurality of legs that are connected to the table top, wherein the plurality of legs extend on a lower side of the table top to position the table top at a distance from a floor, wherein the plurality of legs comprises a first leg that comprises an upper portion extending on an upper side of the table top and a second leg that comprises an upper portion extending on the upper side of the table top, wherein the upper portions of the first leg and the second leg are connected via a connecting portion that forms a handle allowing manually moving the table, characterized in that the table is foldable between an operational non-folded state and a non-operational folded state, that the connecting portion defines a first pivot axis adapted for orienting the first leg and the second leg in different relative angular orientations in the operational non-folded state and in the non-operational folded state.

When the table 2 is non-folded, as is shown in Figs. 5D-E, the stop member 236 is rotationally positioned such that the cut-off side is facing the lower side of the table top 4. The cut-off side of the stop member 236 forms a reduction of its diameter, thereby providing a vertical gap 237 between the stop member 236 and the lower side of the table top 4. This vertical gap 237 is designed to accommodate a locking rod 212a, 212b, such that the locking rod 212a, 212b may pass between the stop member 236 and the lower side of the table top 4. In order to stabilize the hinge 230, a support bracket 238 (see Fig. 5C) is securely attached to the lower side 14 of the table top 4, e.g. by the support bracket 238 being an integrally formed part of the fitting 220C, D. The support bracket 238 may be formed by another vertical extension of the fitting 220c, 220d opposite the vertical extension 225c, 225d. The support bracket 238 is further provided with a through hole for supporting the shaft 234 of the hinge 230.
[0093] Again returning to the locking handle 210, and again referring to Fig. 5C, each locking rod 212a, 212b is attached to one end of a spring 240a, 240b. The opposite end of each spring 240a, 240b is connected to an adjacent fitting 220a-b. Further, a tubular member 228 may be provided at one or more fittings 220a-d to retain the end of a locking rod 212a-b.
[0095] In order to operate the locking mechanism 200, a user pulls the locking handle 210. The locking rods 212A-B will then start to move in the same direction as the pulling force, indicated in Fig. 5D. Hence, the end of each locking rod 212A-B will move out from the tubular member 228. Upon further pulling, the locking rods 212A-B will also pass the hinge 230 as indicated in Fig. 5E. When this has happened, it is possible to fold the table 2. This is shown in Fig. 5F and the table, in a final folded stage, is shown in Fig. 5G. Generally, folding is possible as soon as the locking rods 212A-B are moved beyond the hinges 230. After a certain rotation of the hinges 230 the circular portion of the stop member 236 will reduce the gap 237, such that the locking rods 212A-B will no longer fit. Hence, even as the springs 240A-B urge the entire locking handle 210 back to its idle position, the stop member 236 will prevent such return movement. This is particularly shown in Fig. 5H.

CLAIMS1. A table (2; 102) comprising a table top (4) and a plurality of legs (6, 8, 10, 12) that are connected to the table top, wherein the plurality of legs extend on a lower side (14) of the table top to position the table top at a distance from a floor, wherein the plurality of legs comprises a first leg (6) that comprises an upper portion (16) extending on an upper side (18) of the table top (4) and a second leg (8) that comprises an upper portion (20) extending on the upper side of the table top, wherein the upper portions (16, 20) of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) are connected via a connecting portion (22) that forms a handle allowing manually moving the table, characterized in that the table is foldable between an operational non-folded state and a non-operational folded state, that the connecting portion (22) defines a first pivot axis (24) adapted for orienting the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) in different relative angular orientations in the operational non-folded state and in the non-operational folded state.
2. A table according to claim 1 , wherein the connecting portion (22) that forms the handle is arranged at a distance (d) from the table top (4), and wherein said distance (d) is dimensioned such that a user may grip the connecting portion (22) without getting blocked by the table top (4).
3. A table according to claim 2, wherein said distance (d) is dimensioned such that a user can grip the connecting portion (22) when the table top (4) is in the operational non-folded state as well as when the table top (4) is in the non-operational folded state.
4. A table according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the connecting portion (22) is arranged at the same distance (d) from the table top (4) when the table top (4) is in the operational non-folded state as well as when the table top (4) is in the non-operational folded state.

A table according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the table comprises four legs (6, 8, 10, 12) connected to the table top (4), wherein the legs (6, 8, 10, 12) are positioned in corners of a square shape in a cross section in parallel with the table top (4) in the operational non-folded state, wherein the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) are arranged diagonally opposite each other and extend through recesses(53, 55) in the table top (4), and wherein the connecting portion (22) forming the handle bridges a distance between the upper portions (16, 20) of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8).
6. A table according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the handle is arranged generally horizontally and in parallel with the table top (4) when the table is arranged in the operational non-folded state.
7. A table according to any of the preceding claims, wherein each one of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) has the same cross section shape and size along its complete extension in its longitudinal direction.
8. A table according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) have similar cross section shapes and sizes, preferably each one of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) has a tubular shape that is circular in cross section.

A table according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the connecting portion (22) is elongated and has a cross section shape and size that is similar to the cross section shape and size of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8), preferably the connecting portion (22) is formed by an extension of at least one of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8).
10. A table according to claim 9, wherein the extension of at least one of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) that forms the connecting portion (22) extends perpendicularly relative to an adjacent section of the upper portion (16, 20) of the first leg (6) and / or the second leg (8).
11. A table according to claim 10, wherein the connecting portion (22) is split in two sections (26, 28), wherein a first section (26) and at least the upper portion (16) of the first leg (6) form a one-piece unit and wherein a second section (28) and the upper portion (20) of the second leg (8) form a one-piece unit, preferably wherein the first section (26) and the second section (28) are adapted for being connected to each other in a releasable way.

A table according to claim 11 , wherein the first section (26) and the second section (28) have generally the same longitudinal extensions so that a split between the first section (26) and the second section (28) is arranged about midway of the connecting portion (22) in its extension direction.

A table according to any of claims 1-12, wherein the table top (4) comprises a first table top portion (34) and a second table top portion (36) which are pivotally connected around a second pivot axis (38), wherein the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36) are arranged in parallel with each other and jointly form an upper table surface in the operational non-folded state.
14. A table according to claim 13, wherein the table is adapted so that the second pivot axis (38) is arranged on a lower side of the table top (4) and directly adjacent a split line (s) between the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36).

A table according to claim 14, wherein the table comprises a hinge structure (44) that defines the second pivot axis (38), wherein the hinge structure (44) comprises two plate-shaped angle fittings (50, 52 ,54, 56) that are pivotably connected, wherein each one of the two plate-shaped angle fittings (50, 52, 54, 56) is rigidly connected to one of the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36).
16. A table according to claim 15, wherein the hinge structure (44) that defines the second pivot axis (38) is configured to allow the first and second table top portions (34, 36) to fold downwards, i.e. towards the lower side of the table top (4).
17. A table according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the table top (4) has a generally rectangular shape, wherein each one of the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36) also has a generally rectangular shape.
18. A table according to claim 17, wherein the table top (4) is split in two equally sized portions forming the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36).
19. A table according to claim 17 or 18, wherein the table is adapted so that edges of the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36) abut each other when the table is in the operational non-folded state.
20. A table according to claim 13, wherein the first pivot axis (24) is in parallel with the second pivot axis (38) between the first table top portion and the second table top portion.21 . A table according to claim 20, wherein the table is adapted so that the first pivot axis (24) and the second pivot axis (38) are operationally connected in a way that a pivoting of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) relative to each other around the first pivot axis (24) results in a simultaneous pivoting of the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36) relative to each other around the second pivot axis (38) and vice versa.
22. A table according to claim 20 or 21 , wherein the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) are arranged on opposite sides of the second pivot axis (38).
23. A table according to claim 22, wherein the upper portion (16) of the first leg (6) and the upper portion (20) of the second leg (8) are arranged in a spaced relationship in a direction of the second pivot axis (38).

A table according to any one of claims 20-23, wherein the first table top portion (34) comprises a first recess (53) adapted for housing the first leg (6) and wherein the second table top portion (36) comprises a second recess (55) adapted for housing the second leg (8) so that the legs may be arranged in the different relative angular orientations in the operational non-folded state and in the non-operational folded state.

A table according to claim 24, wherein the first recess (53) in the first table top portion (34) is formed by a first slot extending perpendicular to the second pivot axis (38) between the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36) and / or wherein the second recess (55) in the second table top portion (36) is formed by a second slot extending perpendicular to the second pivot axis (38) between the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36).

A table according to claim 25, wherein a first end (58) of the first slot (53) is open at an edge (40) of the first table top portion (34) adjacent the second pivot axis (38) and a first end (60) of the second slot (55) is open at an edge (42) of the second table top portion (36) adjacent the second pivot axis (38).
27. A table according to any one of claims 20-26, wherein the table comprises a locking mechanism (200, 82, 90) adapted for releasably locking the first table top portion (34) and the second table top portion (36) in the operational non-folded state.

A table according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a lower portion (62) of the first leg (6) extending on the lower side (14) of the table top (4) and a lower portion (64) of the second leg (8) extending on the lower side (14) of the table top (4) are arranged in a diverging configuration away from the first pivot axis (24) defined by the connecting portion (22) in the operational non-folded state seen in a direction of the first pivot axis (24) and in planes in parallel with each other in the non-operational folded state.

A table according to claim 28, wherein each one of the upper portion (16) and the lower portion (62) of the first leg (6) is generally straight and wherein the upper portion (16) and the lower portion (62) of the first leg (6) extend in an angular relationship relative to one another, wherein each one of the upper portion (20) and the lower portion (64) of the second leg (8) is generally straight and wherein the upper portion (20) and the lower portion (64) of the second leg (8) extend in an angular relationship relative to one another.

A table according to claim 29, wherein the angular relationship between the upper portion (16, 20) and the lower portion (62, 64) of each one of the first leg (6) and the second leg (8) is in an interval of 10-20°.31 . A table according to any preceding claim, wherein the plurality of legs (6, 8, 10, 12) comprises a third leg (10) that is rigidly connected to the first leg (6) in a diverging configuration in a plane in parallel with the first pivot axis (24) and a fourth leg (12) that is rigidly connected to the second leg (8) in a diverging configuration in a plane in parallel with the first pivot axis (24).

A table according to claim 31 , wherein the table comprises a first rigid leg structure (70) comprising the first leg (6), the third leg (10) and a first distance portion (72) that is arranged to maintain the first leg and the third leg in a set configuration, wherein the table comprises a second rigid leg structure (74) comprising the second leg (8), the fourth leg (12) and a second distance portion (76) that is arranged to maintain the second leg and the fourth leg in a set configuration.

A table according to claim 32 when dependant on any one of claims 20-27, wherein the first distance portion (74) is straight and pivotably connected to the first table top portion (34) and the second distance portion (76) is straight and pivotably connected to the second table top portion (36), wherein each one of the first distance portion (74) and the second distance portion (76) is in parallel with the second pivot axis (38).
34. A table according to any one of claims 31-33, wherein floor engaging ends of the first leg, the second leg, the third leg and the fourth leg (6, 8, 10, 12) are positioned in corners of a rectangular shape.

A table according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the upper portion (16) of the first leg (6) and a lower portion (62) of the first leg (6) extending on the lower side (14) of the table top (4) are formed in one-piece and / or the upper portion (20) of the second leg (8) and a lower portion (64) of the second leg (8) extending on the lower side (14) of the table top (4) are formed in one-piece.
