Description

AEROSOL GENERATING ARTICLEThis application claims the benefit of priority to Chinese patent application No. 202411642990.9, filed on November 15, 2024, entitled “Aerosol Generating Article” , the entire disclosures of which are incorporated herein by reference.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the technical field of tobacco products, and more particularly to an aerosol generating article.BACKGROUND

[0002] Heat Not Burn (HNB) , also known as low temperature cigarette, is a novel type of tobacco product that incorporates a heating device and a stick, which is designed with an idea of “only heating but not burning" and is exemplified as “low temperature cigarettes” . The low temperature cigarettes can heat processed reconstituted tobacco (such as, a special stick) utilizing a special heating device (such as, a smoking device) to a certain temperature and to such an extent that the reconstituted tobacco is heated sufficiently to emit smoke for consumption. The HNB has advantages in that it is more harmless and can restore a pure taste and throat sensation of a cigarette, and thus can provide smokers with a nearest alternative to traditional cigarettes.

[0003] HNB product includes a heating device and a HNB stick. The HNB stick generally includes an aerosol generating substrate, a cooling segment and a filter segment. The aerosol generating substrate is an important part. The aerosol generating substrate is heated in a heating chamber and emits smoke similar to traditional cigarettes, and then the smoke passes through the cooling segment and the filter segment for the smokers to inhale.

[0004] In existing HNB stick on the market, the aerosol generating substrate can generate smoke mainly using reconstituted tobacco sheets or tobacco shreds as a core material and glycerol or propylene glycol as an aerosol generating agent with addition of flavors and other ingredients through a lower heating temperature (usually<350℃) to achieve a smoking effect. Due to lower temperature heating, a certain waiting time is needed from heating to generating smoke. The longer the waiting time, the worse the consumer experience. Therefore, how to effectively reduce the waiting time and improve the consumer experience is an important issue. Existing measures mainly include increasing the heating temperature or heating efficiency. However, increasing the heating temperature deviates from the original intention of HNB product for low-temperature and harmful substance reduction, and improving the heating efficiency requires improving the performance of the heating device, and thus it is very difficult to improve the heating efficiency. Therefore, the structure of the HNB stick needs to be further improved to reduce the waiting time of a first puff or increase a smoke amount of the first puff.SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0005] Therefore, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides a HNB product (also referred to as a heated tobacco product (HTP) , a low-temperature cigarette product, or generically as a heated product) , namely an aerosol generating article, which can reduce a waiting time for smokers to inhale the first puff by improving heat conductive efficiency, or increase a smoke amount of the first puff under a same waiting time.

[0006] According to some embodiments, an aerosol generating article includes an aerosol generating substrate segment. The aerosol generating substrate segment includes an aerosol generating material. An air inlet hole is provided on a tube or a sealed end of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment. The air inlet hole is provided on a thermally conductive material covering a part of an overall surface of the aerosol generating material. The air inlet hole is configured to allow an air to flow from an outside of the tube to an inside of the tube. By using the thermally conductive material to seal or encapsulate the aerosol generating material in a circumferential direction, and arranging the air inlet hole on the thermally conductive material, hot air can quickly heat the thermally conductive material after entering the tube, and heat can be quickly conducted to the aerosol generating material through the thermally conductive material, which can improve the heat conductive efficiency, reduce the waiting time of the first puff, or increase the smoke amount of the first puff under the same waiting time.

[0007] According to some embodiments, the air inlet hole is provided on the sealed end of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment. When the air inlet hole is provided on the sealed end, the sealing of the thermally conductive material can improve the heat conductive efficiency from a heat source at the sealed end to the aerosol generating material.

[0008] According to some embodiments, the air inlet hole is provided on the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment and distributed in a circumferential direction of the tube. Arranging the air inlet hole in the circumferential direction of the tube can improve the heat conductive efficiency from a heat source around the tube to the aerosol generating material.

[0009] According to some embodiments, a distance between the air inlet hole and the sealed end of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment is greater than 1 mm and less than 8 mm, and preferably greater than 3 mm and less than 5 mm. The distance between the air inlet hole and the sealed end may be determined based on a height of the aerosol generating substrate segment so as to allow the air passing through the air inlet hole of the tube to flow through the aerosol generating material.

[0010] According to some embodiments, a plurality of air inlet holes are provided.

[0011] According to some embodiments, the number of the plurality of air inlet holes is greater than or equal to 4.

[0012] According to some embodiments, the plurality of air inlet holes are distributed in a circumferential direction of the tube. A circumferential distribution, especially uniform distribution, can fully utilize the heat around the tube.

[0013] According to some embodiments, the plurality of air inlet holes are distributed in rows or columns in the circumferential direction of the tube.

[0014] According to some embodiments, the thermally conductive material includes metal foil, and preferably aluminum foil.

[0015] According to some embodiments, a thickness of the metal foil is greater than 5 μm.

[0016] According to some embodiments, the thermally conductive material includes aluminum foil paper, and an aluminum foil surface of the aluminum foil paper faces the aerosol generating material.

[0017] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating material includes an aerosol generating capsule. The capsule is commonly known as seamless capsule and is typically spherical.

[0018] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating material includes a homogenized tobacco material.

[0019] According to some embodiments, the homogenized tobacco material includes a tobacco sheet, a tobacco granule or a solid tobacco material with designed structure.

[0020] In the aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure, the air inlet hole is provided on the tube or the sealed end of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment, and the air inlet hole is configured to allow an air to flow from an outside of the tube to an inside of the tube, which can effectively reduce draw resistance. Moreover, the air inlet hole is provided on the thermally conductive material, which can enhance the heat conductive efficiency during heating, thereby reducing the waiting time for aerosol release. The aerosol generating article is particularly suitable for heating methods such as hot air convection heating, peripheral resistance heating and peripheral inductance heating, which can improve heating efficiency and save energy consumption. Moreover, the structure of the aerosol generating article can be applied to various forms of aerosol generating materials, especially to improve heating release effect of aerosol generating materials in capsule or granule form. Therefore, the present disclosure is more suitable for the aerosol generating substrate segment composed of the aerosol generating material that needs to be sealed.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0034] In order to resolve the problem of long waiting time for heating to smoke and affecting consumer experience in existing HNB products, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides an aerosol generating article. An air inlet hole is provided on a tube or a sealed end of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment, and the air inlet hole is provided on a thermally conductive material covering a part of an overall surface of the aerosol generating material, which can improve heat conductive efficiency, effectively reduce waiting time and save energy consumption.

[0035] In specific implementation, there may be a plurality of air inlet holes, and area size and shape of the air inlet holes may be the same or different, such as circular, elliptical, square, diamond, which is not limited by the present disclosure.

[0036] Referring to FIG. 1, FIG. 1 schematically illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0037] The aerosol generating article 10 includes an aerosol generating substrate segment 101. The aerosol generating substrate segment 101 includes an aerosol generating material. The aerosol generating material may include one or more of an aerosol generating capsule and a homogenized tobacco material. The homogenized tobacco material may include a tobacco sheet (such as a slurry based reconstituted tobacco sheet, a dry process reconstituted tobacco sheet) , a tobacco granule or a solid tobacco material with designed structure. In the embodiment as shown in FIG. 1, the aerosol generating material includes one or more aerosol generating capsules 104. The core material of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may be solid, liquid, paste, colloid or a solid-liquid mixture. Compared with other forms of aerosol generating materials, the aerosol generating capsules 104 can achieve smoke release at lower heating temperatures.

[0038] The aerosol generating article 10 may further include a limiting part 102 and a filter segment 103.

[0039] In the embodiment as shown in FIG. 1, a sealed end of a tube is provided with an air inlet hole 105. There may be a plurality of air inlet holes 105, for example, the number of air inlet holes 105 is greater than or equal to 4, so that air can flow from an outside of the tube to an inside of the tube through the air inlet holes 105. The plurality of air inlet holes 105 may be uniformly distributed in a center and / or peripheral area of the sealed end.

[0040] According to different aerosol generating materials, the air inlet holes 105 may also have different structures and manufacturing methods. For example, in the embodiment as shown in FIG. 1, the aerosol generating material is the aerosol generating capsule 104. Correspondingly, a seal may be provided at the sealed end, and the air inlet holes 105 may be provided on the seal. Similar seals may also be provided in the aerosol generating article using a homogenized tobacco material.

[0041] In some embodiments, the air inlet holes 105 are provided on a thermally conductive material which covers a part of an overall surface of the aerosol generating material. In some embodiments, the thermally conductive material may include metal foil, and preferably aluminum foil. Preferably, the thickness of the metal foil is greater than 5 μm. In some embodiments, the thermally conductive material may include aluminum foil paper, and an aluminum foil surface of the aluminum foil paper faces the aerosol generating material, which can more quickly conduct heat to the aerosol generating material.

[0042] In some embodiments, the thermally conductive material can be used as the seal, and the air inlet holes may be prefabricated on the thermally conductive material, and then the fabricated seal may be attached to the sealed end of the tube.

[0043] In some embodiments, the thermally conductive material may be attached to the seal made of other materials, and corresponding air inlet holes may be formed on the seal and the attached thermally conductive material. Then, the seal covered with the thermally conductive material may be attached to the sealed end of the tube, and the thermally conductive material may face inward or outward.

[0044] It should be noted that the limiting part 102 and the filter segment 203 mentioned above are optional members.

[0045] In some embodiments, the filter segment 103 mentioned above may not be provided, and the limiting part 102 may limit the aerosol generating capsules 104, thereby limiting the aerosol generating capsules 104 to a certain fixed or movable area. In addition, if necessary, the limiting part 102 may also cool the smoke generated by the aerosol generating substrate segment when the aerosol generating article 10 is heated.

[0046] In some embodiments, the limiting part 102 mentioned above may not be provided, and the filter segment 103 may simultaneously filter the smoke and limit the aerosol generating capsules 104.

[0047] In some embodiments, the limiting part 102 mentioned above may not be provided. For example, when using the aerosol generating material made of a solid tobacco material with designed structure, there is no need to limit the aerosol generating material in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101.

[0048] Referring to FIG. 2, FIG. 2 schematically illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article 20 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0049] In this embodiment, the aerosol generating article 20 includes an aerosol generating substrate segment 201, a limiting part 202 and a filter segment 203. More details about the limiting part 202 and the filter segment 203 may refer to corresponding members of the embodiment as shown in FIG. 1, which will not be repeated here.

[0050] In FIG. 2, a sealed end of the aerosol generating article 20 is provided with a plurality of air inlet holes 205.

[0051] In addition, an air inlet hole 206 is also provided on a tube of the aerosol generating substrate segment 201. There may be one or more air inlet holes 206. For example, the number of the air inlet holes 206 is greater than or equal to four. A plurality of air inlet holes 206 are provided on the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment 201 and distributed uniformly or non-uniformly in a circumferential direction of the tube. For example, in some embodiments, the plurality of air inlet holes 206 are uniformly distributed in one or more circles on the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment 201, and each circle is parallel to each other. Certainly, parallel or aligned design of the air inlet holes is not necessary and can be adjusted according to actual situations.

[0052] In some embodiments, a distance between the air inlet holes 206 and the sealed end of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment 201 may be greater than 1 mm and less than 8 mm. In some embodiments, the distance is greater than 3 mm and less than 5 mm. Certainly, the design of the distance needs to consider the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment, and should also be adapted to better parameters based on the structure or properties of the aerosol generating material. The air inlet holes 206 are provided on a thermally conductive material, for example, a circle of thermally conductive material may be wrapped around the aerosol generating substrate segment on an inside of the tube, and the air inlet holes 206 may be provided on the thermally conductive material. In special structures, the air inlet holes may also not be provided, for example, a certain gap exists between the thermally conductive material and the tube to form an airflow channel.

[0053] The aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure has high universality and can be adapted to various heating devices. The aerosol generating article is more suitable for air heating devices, peripheral heating devices, etc. An example is illustrated below with reference to FIG. 3.

[0054] Referring to FIG. 3, FIG. 3 schematically illustrates a structural view of the aerosol generating article of FIG. 1, which is inserted in an air heating device for heating.

[0055] Referring to FIG. 1, during heating, the aerosol generating article 10 is inserted into an air heating device QA. A heating member QA1 in the air heating device QA adopts a hot air flow heating method. A power supply and control module QA2 controls turning on of the heating member QA1 to start heating the sealed end of the aerosol generating article 10. The hot air outside the tube enters the tube through the air inlet holes 105 on the sealed end of the aerosol generating article 10, and quickly heats the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101. After reaching a certain temperature, smoke is released, and the smoke passes through the airflow channel on the limiting part 102 to reach the filter segment 103. The smoke is filtered by the filter segment 103 and inhaled to the mouth of the smokers. In the above process, the thermally conductive material provided with the air inlet holes 105 can further accelerate the heat conduction and reduce the waiting time for smoke release of the aerosol generating capsules 104.

[0056] Referring to FIG. 4, FIG. 4 schematically illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article 30 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0057] In this embodiment, the aerosol generating article 30 includes an aerosol generating substrate segment 301, a limiting part 302 and a filter segment 303. A seal 305 is provided at a sealed end. The seal 305 may be formed of a thermally conductive material or a non-thermally conductive material. In this embodiment, the sealing element 305 may not be provided with an air inlet hole.

[0058] More details about the limiting part 302 and the filter segment 303 may refer to the corresponding members of the embodiment as shown in FIG. 1, which will not be repeated herein.

[0059] Referring to FIG. 4, the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 of the aerosol generating article 30 is filled with aerosol generating capsules 304. Air inlet holes are provided on a tube of the aerosol generating substrate segment 301. Furthermore, an inner surface of the tube provided with the air inlet holes is attached with a thermally conductive material, or the tube itself is formed of a thermally conductive material, and the air inlet holes are correspondingly provided on the thermally conductive material.

[0060] The aerosol generating article 30 as shown in FIG. 4 is more suitable for a heating device using peripheral heating method, and the aerosol generating capsules 304 are filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 in a random loose packing manner, so that the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 has a certain void volume fraction. As shown in FIG. 5, the tube of the aerosol generating substrate segment is provided with an inner thermally conductive material layer, namely an aluminum foil layer, which can facilitate the circulation of hot air entering from the air inlet holes 306 during heating, reduce draw resistance and improve heat conductive efficiency.

[0061] Referring to FIG. 6, FIG. 6 schematically illustrates a structural view of the aerosol generating article of FIG. 4, which is inserted into a peripheral heating device for heating.

[0062] Referring to FIGS. 4 and 5, during heating, the aerosol generating article 300 is inserted into a peripheral heating device QP. A peripheral heating member QP1 in the peripheral heating device QP is a heating sheet arranged in the circumferential direction. A power supply and control module QP2 controls turning on of the peripheral heating member QP1 to start heating an outer periphery of the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 of the aerosol generating article 30. The hot air outside the tube enters the tube through the air inlet holes 306 on the tube of the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 to heat the aerosol generating capsules 304 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 301. After reaching a certain temperature, smoke is released, and the smoke passes through the airflow channel on the limiting part 302 to reach the filter segment 303. Then, the smoke is filtered by the filter segment 303 and inhaled to the mouth of the smokers. In the above process, the thermally conductive material provided with the air inlet holes 306 can further accelerate the heat conduction and reduce the waiting time for smoke release of the aerosol generating capsules 304.

[0063] In the aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure, the air inlet holes are provided on the tube or the sealed end of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment, thus the air can flow from an outside of the tube to an inside of the tube, which can effectively reduce draw resistance and improve suction experience. Moreover, the air inlet holes are provided on the thermally conductive material, which can enhance the heat conductive efficiency during heating and reduce the waiting time for aerosol release. The aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure can also improve heating efficiency and save energy consumption.

[0064] It should be noted that in specific implementation, the length and material of the aerosol generating substrate segment may be adjusted. For example, when using the aerosol generating capsules as the aerosol generating material, the void volume fraction and particle size of the aerosol generating capsules may also be adjusted to produce products with different tastes and suction effects so as to meet the needs and experiences of different smoking populations. In addition, different design parameters may be used for the length, structural components and filter segment of the aerosol generating articles to enrich the variety and performance of related products and meet the needs of different smoking populations.

[0065] In order to further verify the effect of the aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure, comparative tests are conducted as follows:

[0066] (1) Comparison test of the effect of arranging air inlet holes in surrounding area

[0067] The tube of the aerosol generating article is a circular paper tube, an inner wall of the tube is covered with aluminum foil, a sealed end of the tube is sealed with a permeable paper or a permeable aluminum foil paper, and air inlet holes are opened in the circumferential direction of the tube at a distance of 5 mm away from the sealed end. The aperture size of the air inlet holes is 0.08 mm, and the number of the air inlet holes is 21, and the air inlet holes are uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction of the tube.

[0068] The difference between two groups of test samples is that one group is not provided with the air inlet holes distributed in the circumferential direction of the tube, and the other group is provided with the air inlet holes distributed in the circumferential direction of the tube. Regarding draw resistance testing and sensory evaluation, the statistical data obtained from this experimental test are shown in Table 1 below:

[0069] Table 1

[0070] Score description: regarding smoke amount, aroma quality, stability, satisfaction, aftertaste and oral residue, the best score is 10 points, and the worst score is 0 points.

[0071] From above test result, it can be seen that arranging the air inlet holes and the thermally conductive material on the tube can effectively reduce the draw resistance, increase the smoke amount, and provide a better sensory experience for the smokers.

[0072] (2) Comparison test of the effect of using the thermally conductive material

[0073] Using the same heating device and heating temperature, the smoke amount and sensory evaluation of the tube with or without the thermally conductive material and different aerosol generating materials (capsules, tobacco granules) are shown below.

[0074] The length of the aerosol generating article is 45 mm, the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment is 10 mm, the particle size of the aerosol generating capsules and tobacco granules is 1.5 mm to 2 mm, and the filling height ratio is 80% (the filling height ratio refers to the ratio of the loose packing height of the stacked aerosol generating capsules to the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment when the aerosol generating article is placed in a vertical direction) .

[0075] According to above sample parameters, the samples are heated and tested, and the experimental results of this experimental test are shown in Table 2 below.

[0076] Table 2

[0077] Score description: regarding smoke amount, aroma quality, stability, satisfaction, aftertaste and oral residue, the best score is 10 points, and the worst score is 0 points.

[0078] From the test data in Table 2, it can be seen that compared with not having the thermally conductive material in the tube, having the thermally conductive material in the tube can achieve better smoke generating effect and sensory experience.

[0079] Test samples are the same as Test (2) , and the test results of electronic cigarette smoking machine are shown in Table 3 below:

[0080] Table 3

[0081] The above conclusion can be further verified through the test results of the experimental instruments mentioned above.

[0082] (3) Comparison test of smoke amount of the first puff of different tube structures

[0083] Using the same air heating device, the same aerosol generating material (capsules) and the same heating temperature, the smoke amount of the first puff of different tube structures is compared. The length of the aerosol generating article is 45 mm, the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment is 10 mm, the particle size of the aerosol generating capsules is 1.5 mm to 2 mm, and the filling height ratio is 80%.

[0084] According to above sample parameters, the samples are heated and tested, and the experimental results of this experimental test are shown in Table 4 below:

[0085] Table 4

[0086] From above test result, it can be seen that under the same conditions, the heat conductive efficiency of the tube with the thermally conductive material and the air inlet holes is higher, and the smoke concentration of the first puff is relatively higher. In addition, under this testing system, the performance of providing the air inlet holes in the sealed end of the thermally conductive material is better than the performance of arranging the inner aluminum foil and the air inlet holes in the circumferential direction of the tube.

[0087] Although the present disclosure has been disclosed above, the present disclosure is not limited thereto. Any changes and modifications may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the present disclosure, and the scope of the present disclosure should be determined by the appended claims.
