[0002] Renewable energy demand is increasing globally. Demand for solar energy, in particular, is continuing to grow because implementation is clean and safe. As a result, there is a demand for solar power equipment including solar panels. Every owner seeks to improve and keep the efficiency of the solar panels, however, water, dirt, and debris cause issues requiring daily maintenance of the solar panel and solar panel frames.
[0003] Thus, there is a need for an improved solar drain clip that aids with the removal of the water, dirt, and debris collected on the solar panel frames and the solar panel. There is also a need for an adjustable solar drain clip designed to accommodate various sized solar panel frames and solar panels.Summary of the Invention
[0004] An adjustable solar drain clip designed to remove water, dirt, and debris from a solar panel frame and a solar panel. The adjustable solar drain clip includes a drain clip body and a drain clip latch. The drain clip body has an upper member with a spine extending from a center of the upper member. The upper member has a top, a bottom, a front, a back, outer sides and inner sides. The spine has a top, a bottom, a front, a partially open back, outer sides, and inner sides with teeth. A plurality of fingers extend from the top between the inner sides of the upper member downwards towards the front of the upper member. The drain clip latch is adjustably secured to the spine of the drain clip body. The drain clip latch has a base member with two latch members and a curved gripping pad extending from the front of the base member. The latch members include a first portion and a second portion with a plurality of teeth. The plurality of teeth of the second portion of the latch members engage the teeth on the inner sides of the spine to adjustably secure the drain clip latch to the drain clip body.Brief Description of the Drawings

[0017] FIG. 1 illustrates the adjustable solar drain clip 20 of the present invention installed on a solar panel frame 300. The adjustable solar drain clip 20 is attached to the solar panel frame 300 in areas where mud and water accumulates. The adjustable solar drain clip 20 drains the water from the solar panel frame and solar panel to the ground. While draining the water, the adjustable solar drain clip 20 also drains the dirt away from the solar panel and solar panel frame.
[0018] FIGS. 2A and 2B illustrate the adjustable solar drain clip 20 of the present invention. The adjustable solar drain clip 20 includes a drain clip body 30 and a drain clip latch 100. FIGS. 3A and 3B also illustrate the drain clip body 30. The drain clip body 30 includes an upper member 32 with a spine 50 extending from the center of the upper member 32. The upper member 32 includes a top 34, a bottom 36, a sloped front 40, a back edge 42, outer sides 44 and inner sides 46. A plurality of fingers 70 extend from the center of the top 34 between the inner sides 46. As illustrated in FIG. 1, the drain clip body 30 is positioned on the solar panel frame 300 with the sloped front 40 of the upper member 32 engaging the top of the solar panel frame 300 and the back edge 42 of the upper member 32 engaging the back of the solar panel frame 300.
[0019] The plurality of fingers 70 extend downwards from the center of the top 34 toward the front 40 of the upper member 32 of the drain clip body 30. The plurality of clip fingers 70 enable the drain clip body 30 to efficiently drain the water and debris off of the solar panel frame or solar panel. Regardless of the width of the panel frame lip 302, the plurality of fingers 70 create proper paths for the water and debris and drain out all accumulated water and debris based on capillarity theory.
[0020] The present embodiment is illustrated with three fingers; however, it is contemplated to vary the number of fingers, as desired. The fingers 70 are designed with varying lengths. Each finger 70 includes an inclined front 72 that leads to a distal edge 74 that is designed to engage the solar panel frame 300. As illustrated in FIG. 3B, the bottom 76 of each finger 70 includes a rib 78 that extends the length of the finger 70 and continues to extend the length of the spine 50 of the drain clip body 30. The ribs 78 help create paths for the water and debris to flow from the solar panel frame and solar panel. As a result, the ribs 78 help prevent the drain clip body 30 from blocking the water flow.
[0021] FIG. 3B also illustrates the bottom 36 of the upper member 32. The bottom 36 includes breaches 38 or indentations positioned adjacent to the fingers 70. The breaches 38 or indentations help to gather the water and debris from the solar panel and solar panel frame and direct the water and debris to the fingers 70 and ribs 78 for removal.
[0022] The spine 50 extends from the bottom 36 of the drain clip body 30 centered along the back 42 of the drain clip body 30. The spine 50 includes a top 52, a bottom 54, a front 56, a partially open back 58, outer sides 60, and inner sides 62. The spine 50 is adjacent to the fingers 70, as discussed above with respect to FIG. 3B, with the ribs 78 extending the length of the front 56 of the spine 50. As illustrated in FIG. 2B, the inner sides 62 of the spine 50 are lined with teeth 64. The spine 50 also includes a passageway 66 defined by the front 56, back 58, outer sides 60 and inner sides 62. The passageway 66 is designed to receive the drain clip latch 100.
[0023] As illustrated in FIGS. 2A and 2B, the drain clip latch 100 includes a base member 102 with two flexible latch members 110 and an opening 112 therebetween. A curved gripping pad 150 extends from a front 104 of the base member 102. The curved gripping pad 150 includes a plurality of ribs 152 to enable the gripping pad 150 to engage the underside of the solar panel frame 300.
[0024] Each flexible latch member 110 includes a first portion 114 and a second portion 130. The first portion 114 is generally rectangular with a top 116, a bottom 118, a front 120, a back 122, an outer side 124 and an inner side 126. As described below, the first portion 114 is positioned within the passageway 66 of the drain clip body 30 when the solar drain clip 20 is assembled. The second portion 130 is generally rectangular with a top 132, a bottom 134, a front 136, a back 138, an outer side 140, and an inner side 144. A plurality of teeth 142 extend from the top of the outer side 140 of the second portion 130. A release tab 146 extends from the back 138 of the second portion 130.
[0025] FIGS. 4A-4B illustrate the adjustable solar drain clip 20 of the present invention in various stages of assembly. The two piece design enables the solar drain clip 20 to work on various sized solar panels and solar panel frames because the drain clip can be adjusted to adapt to different solar panel frame thicknesses. The drain clip latch 100 is easily inserted in the drain clip body 30 with the first portions 114 of the flexible latch members 110 being inserted and housed within the passageway 66. The second portions 130 of the flexible latch members 110 remain adjacent to the inner sides 62 of the spine 50 of the drain clip body 30 with the release tabs 146 easily accessible outside the spine 50 of the drain clip body 30. The drain clip latch 100 is connected to the drain clip body 30 by interlocking the teeth 64 on the inner sides 62 of the drain clip body 30 and the teeth 142 on the outer sides 140 of the second portions 130 of the flexible latch members 110. Additionally, the drain clip latch 100 may be easily released from the drain clip body 30 by squeezing or pinching the release tabs 146 (see FIG. 4B) to force the flexible latch members 110 inward to disengage the interlocking teeth 64, 142 and pulling the drain clip latch 100 out of the passageway 66 (see FIG. 4C) .
[0026] FIGS. 5A-5B illustrate two methods of installing the solar drain clip 20 on a solar panel frame 300. As illustrated in FIG. 5A, the solar drain clip 20 can be pre-assembled with the drain clip latch 100 positioned in the passageway 66 of the drain clip body 30. Next, the user needs to position the solar drain clip 20 in the desired location on the solar panel frame 300. Once in position, the user pushes the drain clip latch 100 upwards to secure the solar drain clip 20 on the solar panel frame 300 with the curved gripping pad 150 engaging the bottom of the solar panel frame 300. Alternatively, as illustrated in FIG. 5B, the user may position the drain clip body 30 on the solar panel frame 300 in the desired position. Next, the user would insert the drain clip latch 100 in the passageway 66 of the drain clip body 30. The drain clip latch 100 is pushed into the passageway 66 until the solar drain clip 20 is secured on the solar panel frame 300 with the curved gripping pad 150 engaging the bottom of the solar panel frame 300.
[0027] FIG. 6A-6B illustrate an adjustable solar drain clip 200 with a drain clip body 30 and an alternative drain clip latch 201. The drain clip body 30 is identical to the drain clip body illustrated and discussed above with respect to FIGS. 1-5B. The drain clip latch 201 includes a base member 202 with two flexible latch members 210 and an opening 212 therebetween. A curved gripping pad 250 extends from a front of the base member 202. The curved gripping pad 250 includes a plurality of ribs 252 to enable the gripping pad 250 to engage the underside of the solar panel frame 300.
[0028] Each flexible latch member 210 includes a first portion 214 and a second portion 230. The first portion 214 is generally rectangular with a top 216, a bottom 218, a front 220, a back 222, an outer side 224 and an inner side 226. The second portion 230 includes a top 232, a bottom 234, a front 236, a back 238, an outer side 240, and an inner side 244. A plurality of teeth 242 extend from the top of the outer side 240 of each second portion 230. Each second portion 230 includes a generally wider section 248 near the top to accommodate a user to engage the flexible latch members 210 for removal from the drain clip body 30. The drain clip latch 201 may be easily released from the drain clip body 30 by squeezing or pinching the wider sections 248 of the second portions 230 to force the flexible latch members 210 inwards to disengage the interlocking teeth 64, 242 and pulling the drain clip latch 201 out of the passageway 66.
[0029] The drain clip latch 201 is installed in the drain clip body 30 the same as discussed above with respect to FIGS. 4A-4B. Additionally, the adjustable solar drain clip of FIGS. 6A-6B is installed on the solar frame panel or solar panel in the same fashion as described with respect to FIGS. 5A-5B.

Claims
1.An adjustable solar drain clip for removing water, dirt, and debris from a solar panel frame and a solar panel, the adjustable solar drain clip comprising:a drain clip body, the drain clip body includes an upper member with a spine extending from a center of the upper member; wherein the upper member has a top, a bottom, a front, a back, outer sides and inner sides; wherein the spine has a top, a bottom, a front, a partially open back, outer sides, and inner sides with teeth;a plurality of fingers extend from the top between the inner sides of the upper member downwards towards the front of the upper member of the drain clip body; anda drain clip latch adjustably secured to the spine of the drain clip body; the drain clip latch includes a base member with two latch members and a curved gripping pad extending from a front of the base member; wherein each latch member includes a first portion and a second portion with a plurality of teeth;whereby the plurality of teeth of the second portions of the latch members engage the teeth on the inner sides of the spine to adjustably secure the drain clip latch to the drain clip body.2.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 1, wherein the plurality of fingers includes an inclined front that leads to a distal edge for engaging the solar panel frame.3.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 2, wherein each finger of the plurality of fingers includes a bottom with a rib that extends a length of the finger, whereby the ribs create paths for water and debris to follow from the solar panel frame.4.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 3, wherein the spine is adjacent to the plurality of fingers and the ribs extend a length of the front of the spine.5.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 1, wherein the spine has a passageway defined by the front, the partially open back, the outer sides and the inner sides; wherein the passageway receives the drain clip latch.6.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 1, wherein the bottom of the upper member of the drain clip body has breaches for gathering the water and debris from the solar panel frame.7.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 1, wherein the drain clip body is positioned on the solar panel frame with the front of the upper member engaging a top of the solar panel frame and the back of the upper member engaging a back of the solar panel frame; and wherein the plurality of fingers drain the water and debris off of the solar panel frame.8.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 1, wherein the curved gripping pad of the drain clip latch includes ribs for enabling the gripping pad to engage a bottom of the solar panel frame.9.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 1, wherein the first portion of the latch members includes a top, a bottom, a front, a back, an outer side, and an inner side; wherein the second portion of the latch members includes a top, a bottom, a front, a back, an outer side, and an inner side; and wherein the plurality of teeth extend from a top of the outer side of the second portion.10.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 9, further comprising release tabs extending from the back of the second portion of the latch members.11.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 9, wherein the spine has a passageway defined by the front, back, outer sides and inner sides; and wherein the first portion of the latch members is positioned within the passageway of the spine.12.The adjustable solar drain clip of claim 9, wherein the second portion includes a wider section for accommodating engagement to release the latch members.
