[0002] SOLID FRAGRANCE COMPOSITION
[0003] Field of the Disclosure
[0004] The present disclosure relates to the field of perfumery. The present disclosure describes solid fragrance compositions useful for various applications in which fragrance delivery is desired, for example in cleaning applications, air freshening applications, and the like. In some aspects, the solid fragrance compositions of the present disclosure are water-soluble and may be solubilized at the point of use.
[0005] Background of the Disclosure
[0006] Fragrances play an important role in the perception of consumer product performance and thus they often determine the consumer's choice for a given product. In some consumer products, such as detergents, hard surface cleaners, air fresheners, and the like, fragrances as free oils are solubilized in liquids, typically in alcohol-based solutions or in water-based solutions with surfactants, in order to deliver a pleasant odor to the surrounding air, to fabrics, or to other various surfaces. In some cases, fragrances may be encapsulated in microcapsules and suspended in liquid solvent. However, the volume of the solvents used is often much larger than the volume of fragrance, leading to increased concerns around sustainability and consumer demand for environmental friendliness.
[0007] Solid fragrance formulations may be used to address the aforementioned concerns. For example, US Patent No. 10,912,853 (Blattner, et al.) describes a solid air freshener comprising a fragrance, surfactant, and a solidifier that can be diluted on site by a user to yield a liquid composition.
[0008] However, solid fragrance formulations are not without their own challenges. A major challenge for solid fragrance formulations, such as powder or tablet products, is the need for complex processing when fragrance oil is used. Applying liquid fragrance oils to a powder or tablet product is generally limited by production capabilities.
[0009] Often, the dose of fragrance oil needs to be below 1% to avoid stickiness or to maintain the ability to press the formulation into tablets. Higher amounts of Firmenich SA
[0010] fragrance oil can lead to leaking of the fragrance oil, incompatibility with tableting, or powder clumping.
[0011] Another challenge is the need for long lastingness and lingering bloom of the fragrance. Often, solid formulations incorporating fragrance oil do not provide adequate performance, i.e. , long lastingness and lingering bloom, that is desirable to the consumer.
[0012] Therefore, there is an ongoing need for solid fragrance compositions that can provide ease of manufacture, ease of use, and increased fragrance performance, such as improved long lastingness and lingering bloom.

[0032] In the first aspect, the present disclosure relates to a solid fragrance composition comprising a carrier and at least one perfumery raw material that is present as a solid under ambient conditions.
[0033] As used herein, the term “perfumery raw material” refers to a compound or mixture of perfuming ingredients used in perfuming formulations or compositions to impart a hedonic effect. In other words, to be considered as a perfuming ingredient, such a Firmenich SA
[0034] perfuming ingredient must be recognized by a person skilled in the art as being capable of imparting or modifying in an active or pleasant way the odor of a composition, and not just as having an odor.
[0035] As used herein, the term “perfuming ingredient” refers to a compound, the main purpose of which is to impart or modulate odor. In other words, to be considered as a perfuming ingredient, such ingredient must be recognized by a person skilled in the art as being capable of imparting or modifying in at least an active or pleasant way the odor of a composition, and not just as having an odor. For the purposes of this disclosure, perfume accords also include combinations of perfuming ingredients with substances that collectively improve, enhance or modify the delivery of the perfuming ingredients, such as pro-perfumes, emulsions or dispersions, as well as combinations that confer benefits other than modifying or conferring odor, such as longevity, eruption, malodor counteraction, antimicrobial effect, microbial stability, insect control.
[0036] The nature and type of perfuming ingredients do not warrant a more detailed description here, which in any case would not be exhaustive, as a person of ordinary skill in the art would be able to select them based on general knowledge and according to the intended use or application and the desired organoleptic effect. In general, these perfuming ingredients belong to chemical classes as varied as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, esters, ethers, acetates, nitriles, terpenoids, nitrogenous or sulphurous heterocyclic compounds and essential oils, and can be of natural or synthetic origin. In any event, many of these ingredients are listed in references such as the works Perfume and Flavor Chemicals, 1969, Montclair, New Jersey, USA, or other works of a newer version or similar nature, by S. Arctander, and in patent literature abundant in the field of perfumery. It should also be understood that said ingredients can also be compounds known to release in a controlled manner various types of perfuming compounds.
[0037] As used herein, the phrase “solid under ambient conditions” means that the at least one perfumery raw material is in a solid or crystalline state at a temperature of from 15 °C to 30 °C at atmospheric pressure. Firmenich SA
[0038] The number of perfumery raw materials used in the composition of the present disclosure is not particularly limited. However, in an embodiment, the composition comprises at least 2, typically at least 3, more typically at least 4 perfumery raw materials that are present as solids under ambient conditions. In another embodiment, all perfumery raw materials are present as solids under ambient conditions.
[0039] An advantage of the solid fragrance composition of the present disclosure that results from the use of perfumery raw materials that are in the solid state under ambient conditions is ease of processing. The use of perfumery raw materials that are in the solid state under ambient conditions allows for fragrancing of solid formulations without the need for complex processes needed to combine liquid fragrance oil with solid materials, such as the need to encapsulate the fragrance oil in microcapsules or matrix materials. Therefore, in some embodiments, the at least one perfumery raw material is not encapsulated. In some embodiments, the at least one perfumery raw material is not absorbed or captured in a matrix material. In some embodiments, the composition is free of any perfumery raw material that is a liquid under ambient conditions.
[0040] The use of perfumery raw materials that are in the solid state under ambient conditions allows for fragrancing of solid formulations without the need for solidifying aids or extraneous ingredients to reduce clumping, such as starch, anti-caking agent, dessicant, urea, binding agent, porous particles, and the like. Thus, in some embodiments, the composition is free of starch, anti-caking agent, dessicant, urea, binding agent, or porous particles.
[0041] The phrase “free of” means that there is no external addition of the material modified by the phrase and that there is no detectable amount of the material that may be observed by analytical techniques known to those having ordinary skill in the art, such as, for example, gas or liquid chromatography, spectrophotometry, optical microscopy, and the like.
[0042] The at least one perfumery raw material that is present as a solid under ambient conditions is not particularly limited as long as it is solid or crystalline under ambient Firmenich SA
