AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The challenges of constructing temporary traffic decks over excavations include the need for on-site welding under adverse conditions, which increases costs and extends project timelines, and the lack of flexibility to adapt to changing excavation requirements, exacerbated by the scarcity of skilled welders and stringent quality control demands.

Method used

A method for factory prefabrication of a customized site-specific modular decking system, comprising prefabricated girders and decking panels, designed to accommodate site tolerances, assembled using non-welded connections, allowing for quick installation by less specialized labor.

Benefits of technology

This approach reduces installation time and costs, ensures consistent quality, and allows easy adaptation to changing excavation needs, minimizing reliance on on-site construction and specialized resources.

Abstract

A method for production of a customized site-specific traffic decking system for a planned excavation site involves obtaining planning specifications of the excavation, and based thereon custom designing a site-specific kit of modular decking componentry composed of dimensionally-fixed components of rigidly predefined non-adjustable shape and size, including at least a set of prefabricated girders for spanned installation between support of excavation (SOE) walls at different sides of the excavation site, and a set of prefabricated decking panels assemblable with the prefabricated girders in supported and non-welded relation thereto to form a traversable decking surface over the planned excavation site. The design site-specific kit of modular decking componentry is precision fabricated in a factory setting situated remotely of the excavation site. Delivery of the kit in less-than fully assembled form to the excavation site is coordinated, for assembly and installation through non-welded assembly of the site-specific kit of modular decking componentry.
