Provided in the present invention is a method for providing shelter from the wind and for fixing sand in a sandified grassland of Horqin, which method involves: S1, using an automatic sand barrier laying device to lay a mechanical sand barrier in the sandified grassland of Horqin, wherein a material for the mechanical sand barrier is one of or any combination of reed segments, straw mats, rice straw, Salix gordejevii, and Salix psammophila branches; S2, planting biological sand barriers inside the mechanical sand barrier to form a composite sand barrier, wherein the biological sand barriers are shrubs, and the shrubs are a combination of Salix gordejevii, Hippophae rhamnoides, Caragana microphylla, Caragana korshinskii, Corethrodendron fruticosum, Lespedeza davurica, and Artemisia halodendron; and S3, spreading seeds of herbaceous plants between the biological sand barriers, wherein the herbaceous plants comprise leguminous plants, gramineous plants and annual plants, and the ratio, by plant number, of leguminous plants : gramineous plants : annual plants is 3 : 5 : 1.
