AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Open RAN (O-RAN) technology faces challenges in managing node cluster failures in telecommunications networks, which can lead to widespread disruptions, data unavailability, performance collapse, and significant operational costs due to simultaneous node failures, cluster management software issues, network partitioning, resource mismanagement, security incidents, configuration errors, and external factors.

Method used

A system and method for automatically detecting failures in a first node cluster, notifying Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), and re-deploying network functions (NFs) to a second node cluster to recover from failures, utilizing Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) frameworks, Non-Real-Time RICs, and Near-Real-Time RICs to manage and optimize RAN operations.

Benefits of technology

The solution enables rapid recovery from node cluster failures, minimizing service disruptions, data loss, and operational costs by efficiently redeploying network functions, thus ensuring business continuity and reducing the impact of failures on telecommunications networks.

Abstract

Provided are system, method, and device for automatically perform node cluster failure recovery. According to example embodiments, the system may be configured to: receive, from a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), a network function (NF) deployment request to deploy a network function (NF); in response to receiving the NF deployment request, deploy the NF at a first node cluster; detect a failure at the first node cluster; transmit, to the SMO, a notification including information related to the detected failure at the first node cluster; receive, from the SMO, a network function (NF) re-deployment request to re-deploy the NF; and in response to receiving the NF re-deployment request and in response to detecting the failure at the first node cluster, re-deploy the NF at a second node cluster.
