Description

An Adams Clasp Bending Device With a Vertical Fixed SeatTechnical Field

[0001] This invention pertains to the field of orthodontic dentistry, specifically relating to an adams clasp bending device.

[0002] Background Technology

[0003] After orthodontic treatment, clear retainers or Hawley retainer are typically used to maintain the post-treatment position of the teeth. A Hawley retainer consists of a double-curved labial bow and double arrow clasps. The arrow of the adams clasp is embedded below the mesial and distal contour high points of the first molar. This creates friction when the Hawley retainer is placed on the teeth, preventing the retainer from dislodging. Due to the excellent stability of the Hawley retainer, it is frequently prescribed by doctors. However, the complex structure of the adams clasp has traditionally necessitated manual bending, resulting in difficult processing, high costs, and an inability to achieve automated bending.

[0004] Typically, the first molar has a buccolingual width of 8-10mm, a length of 11-13mm, and a height of 5-8mm. Therefore, to prevent wire interference with occlusion between upper and lower teeth during wear, the height of the adams clasp should not exceed the occlusal surface.

[0005] Patent CN 103752722 B introduces a rotary head bending machine, with the bending structure mounted on a slewing bearing that rotates simultaneously. However, this structure is bulky and suitable only for industrial production, not for the processing of small, customized adams clasps. Patent US20220008169A1 describes a wire bending machine, but this device is suitable for bending rectangular wires used in orthodontics. The adams clasp on a Hawley retainer typically uses 0.8mm or 0.7mm round stainless steel wire.

[0006] Invention Content

[0007] The purpose of this invention is to achieve automatic bending of the challenging adams clasp, producing arrows with an internal angle of 20-25°on both sides, and an inner arc with a minimum diameter of 0.5-1mm, while avoiding collisions. The difficulty lies in the extremely small internal angle of the adams clasp arrow, which is 20-25°. Testing has shown that the wire needs to be bent 180°to spring back to about 25°, and 190°to spring back to 20°. The inner arc diameter of the arrow is 0.5-1mm, so the thickness of the wire bending circumference can only be 0.5-1mm. This requires minimizing the resistance force generated during bending. Additionally, the complex structure of the adams clasp, which wraps around the mesial and distal sides of a molar in a confined space, makes automatic bending prone to collisions. Since bending an adams clasp requires clamping and rotating the wire over 180°, the straightener locks the wire, causing a 180°twist in the wire between the straightener and the clamping point. This may affect the wire's properties. Therefore, the bending device must allow the wire to rotate over 180°while being clamped and conveyed.

[0008] Furthermore, as factories producing Hawley retainer are extremely busy during peak periods, with daily production reaching hundreds of retainers, and each retainer having two double arrow clasps and one double-curved labial bow, the daily wire bending and cutting operations can exceed a thousand times. This inevitably leads to wear, necessitating the replacement of bending heads, fixed seats, and cutting blades. After replacement, aprecise, rapid, and convenient calibration structure is needed for quick installation.

[0009] To achieve the aforementioned objectives, this invention provides an adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat. Its structural components include: a support frame structure, an up-and-down sliding structure, a rotary power structure, a rotary conveying structure, a calibration structure, afixed bending structure, a bending rod, and a cutting blade. The fixed seat is vertically installed on the middle plate.

[0010] Furthermore, the support frame structure consists of a top plate, middle plate, bottom plate, back plate, and left and right side plates. The top plate is fixed to the middle plate by multiple connecting rods.

[0011] Additionally, the left and right side sliding plates of the up-and-down sliding structure secure the upper and lower sliding plates to the sliding mounting plate. The upper sliding plate is positioned between the top and middle plates, while the lower sliding plate is between the middle and bottom plates. When the upper and lower sliding plates move vertically, they do not contact the connecting rods that fix the top plate and middle plate. The first vertical height of the up-and-down sliding structure aligns the center point of the first bending side notch with the wire center, the second vertical height aligns the center of the second bending head side notch with the wire center point, and the third vertical height positions the cutting blade edge above the highest point of the wire.

[0012] Furthermore, the vertical movement of the upper and lower sliding plates in the up-and-down sliding structure is synchronized through the movement of the sliding mounting plate. Due to the lateral forces generated during bending, the distance between the upper and lower sliding plates provides effective resistance against these lateral bending forces.

[0013] Additionally, the hollow deceleration rotary table of the rotary power structure is installed at the center of the upper sliding plate. The bottom flange of the bending rod is fixed to the hollow deceleration rotary table, which protrudes through the top plate. The calibration structure consists of a side inclined surface, upper side surface, lower side surface, inner arc surface, upper notch, and lower notch. The side inclined surface of the calibration structure meshes with the side inclined surface of the fixed seat, the upper side surface of the calibration structure meshes with the side of the bending head, and the inner arc surface of the calibration structure meshes with the bending column.

[0014] Moreover, the calibration structure is used to align the position of the bending head with the fixed seat head, ensuring their centerlines coincide. The calibration structure is slowly pushed horizontally from the bending head to the fixed seat head. When the internal part of the calibration structure fully fits with the bending head and fixed seat head, it confirms that the rotational center of the bending head aligns with the center of the fixed seat's output port. At this point, the origin sensor of the bending rod is adjusted from an unlit to a lit position and fixed with screws, thereby setting the hardware origin position of the bending rod. This completes the calibration process

[0015] Furthermore, the wire pressing structure, straightener, and storage disk of the rotary conveying structure rotate synchronously with the wire. This arrangement allows the wire to rotate over 180°while being clamped and conveyed, preventing any impact on the wire's performance between the straightener and the wire clamping section due to the 180°rotation. The rear bearing fixed seat is installed at the back of the fixed plate, while a pair of front bearing fixed seats are installed at the front. The front rotating shaft is fixed to the front end of the feeding mounting plate and secured to the synchronous wheel, which is positioned between the pair of front bearing seats. The front end of the straightener is mounted on the feeding mounting plate, with the rear end fitted with a rear rotating shaft. Both front and rear rotating shafts have wire-through holes at their centers and wire-guiding inclined surfaces at their tails. The front of the front rotating shaft is fitted with a wire sleeve tube with an inner diameter not exceeding 1.5mm and an outer diameter not exceeding 4mm. In conventional equipment, the sleeve structure is typically a larger rectangular shape, causing collisions with already bent structures like the double-curved labial bow during operation. Additionally, when bending small circular U-shapes, the suspended wire may bend due to backward thrust, leading to inaccurate bending. The small sleeve protects the wire from bending, guides it smoothly into the fixed seat's circular tapered hole, and reduces the likelihood of collisions with previously bent structures like the double-curved labial bow during operation. Moreover, the cutting blade is located within the through-holes of the fixed seat and fixed rod. The upper part of the blade has a cutting edge, while the lower part connects to the blade holder via a fixing pin hole. Two blade clips are positioned on either side of the blade holder. A spring is placed between the fixed rod nut and the blade holder. The blade's cross-section has a width of 1-2mm and a height of 0.7-1mm, with its front face positioned 0.5-3mm from the outlet.

[0016] Furthermore, during the up-and-down sliding motion of the cutting blade, the head on the lower sliding plate moves upward to the bottom of the blade holder. It then moves further upward, compressing the spring, causing the blade's cutting edge to rise and cut the wire. When the lower sliding plate descends, the compressed spring generates force to push the blade holder downward, lowering the blade's cutting edge below the lowest surface of the wire, thus not obstructing wire feeding. In the up-and-down sliding structure, the first vertical height corresponds to the height at which the first bending platform bends the wire, the second vertical height corresponds to the height at which the second bending platform bends the wire, and the third vertical height corresponds to the height at which the blade's cutting edge rises to cut the wire.

[0017] Moreover, the fixed bending structure consists of a fixed seat, fixed rod, and bending head. The fixed rod is vertically secured at the center of the middle plate. The fixed seat is attached to the upper end of the fixed rod using positioning pins and screws. The rotational center point of the bending head is located on the centerline of the fixed seat's wire channel, with its front-to-back distance from the center point of the fixed seat's outlet not exceeding 2mm. The outer side of the bending head forms a 180-190°angle with the wire channel. The shortest distance between the inner wall of the wire channel and the outer side is 0.2-1.5mm. The left and right second bending platforms of the bending head are symmetrically distributed on either side of the first bending platform. The upper surface diameter of both the first and second bending platforms is 1-3mm. The distance between the upper surfaces of the first and second bending platforms is 1-8mm. The distance between the upper surface of the first bending platform and the lower surface of the bending head is 10-20mm. The distance between the center point of the side notch on the first bending platform and the center point of the fixed seat's outlet is 1-5mm. The distance between the center point of the side notch on the second bending platform and the center point of the fixed seat's outlet is 2.5-6mm.

[0018] Furthermore, when the bending head has both first and second bending platforms, the closer the center point of the first bending platform's side notch is to the center point of the fixed seat's outlet, the smoother the bent arc will be. Conversely, if it's farther, the bent arc will have small straight segments and be less smooth, only capable of bending angles from 0°to 90°. For the circular U-shape within the double-curved labial bow, which has an arc diameter of approximately 4mm, the side notch of the first bending platform must be very close to the center point of the fixed seat's outlet to achieve this 4mm arc diameter. The farther the center point of the second bending platform's side notch is from the center point of the fixed seat's outlet, the higher the bent adams clasp will be. Angles from 40°to 190°are bent by the second bending platform.

[0019] Moreover, the fixed seat consists of a wire channel, outlet, circular tapered inlet hole, outer side surface, side inclined surface, rear concave surface, lower concave surface, lower concave surface body, lower end surface of the outlet, side end surface of the outlet, rear part of the upper end surface, and lower end surface body. The outer side surface, rear concave surface, and lower concave surface form the side notch on the side of the fixed seat. The bending head is composed of the first bending platform, second bending platform, lower concave of the bending head, middle concave of the bending head, rear inclined surface of the first bending platform, inclined slope of the bending head, side surface of the bending head, positioning pin holes, and fixing screw holes for the bending head. The cutting blade passes vertically through the fixed seat, positioned in front of the rear part of the fixed seat's upper surface.

[0020] Furthermore, the fixed bending structure can be simplified as follows: The bending head has only the first bending platform, without a second bending platform. The fixed seat consists of a wire channel, outlet, circular tapered inlet hole, outer side surface, side inclined surface, rear concave surface, lower concave surface, lower concave surface body, lower end surface of the outlet, side end surface of the outlet, rear part of the upper end surface, lower end surface body, and side end surface slope. The outer side surface, rear concave surface, and lower concave surface form the side notch on the side of the fixed seat. The bending head comprises the first bending platform, middle concave of the bending head, inclined slope of the bending head, side surface of the bending head, positioning pin holes, and fixing screw holes for the bending head. The cutting blade passes vertically through the fixed seat, positioned in front of the rear part of the fixed seat's upper surface.

[0021] Moreover, the side notches on both ends of the fixed bending structure are symmetrical. The outer side surface, rear concave surface, and lower concave surface of the side notch ensure that the already bent arrow will not collide while also maintaining the strength of the bent wire. The bending head has two structures: a single bending platform structure and a double bending platform structure. Below the bending platforms on the bending head are a lower concave and a middle concave. The lower end of the first bending platform is the middle concave of the bending head, while below the second bending platform is the lower concave. The single bending platform structure lacks the second bending platform and the lower concave. The lower and middle concaves of the bending head are designed to prevent collisions between the bending head and the upper and lower end surfaces of the fixed seat's outlet or with already bent wire during the bending process.

[0022] Furthermore, when the wire passes through the fixed seat's wire channel and bends to the right, the shortest distance between the inner wall of the wire channel and the outer side surface can be 0.2mm. If a slope is carved on the outer side surface of the side notch, creating a new outer side surface, making the shortest distance between the inner wall of the wire channel and the side concave surface 0.2mm, this 0.2mm represents the limit distance for the thickness from the inner wall of the wire channel to the outer side surface. At this point, the wire can be bent to 191°, as per the following formula:

[0023] tanA=0.8 / 4=0.2 A=arctan0.2≈11° 180°+11°=191°

[0024] Therefore, the maximum bending angle of the fixed bending structure in this invention is 190°.

[0025] Moreover, after performing large-angle bending of 180°-190°with the fixed bending structure, the bent wire will form an arrow bending angle with an internal angle of 20°-30°, depending on the material.

[0026] According to this invention's adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat, the wire feeding structure progressively feeds the wire, while the wire fixing structure works in conjunction with the wire bending structure to bend the advancing wire according to the bending parameters contained in the preset program. The bending device in the bending structure adopts a novel bending design that combines precision and efficiency, effectively solving the problems of high difficulty and low efficiency associated with manual wire bending in existing methods. It represents a significant improvement and upgrade compared to existing bending machines.

[0110] Specific Implementation Method

[0111] The following is a detailed description of the embodiments of this invention. Examples of these embodiments are shown in the accompanying figures, where the same or similar numerals throughout indicate the same or similar elements, or elements with the same or similar functions. The embodiments described below by reference to the figures are exemplary and are intended to explain the invention, but should not be construed as limiting the invention. Based on the embodiments in this invention, all other embodiments obtained by those skilled in the art without creative effort fall within the scope of protection of this invention.

[0112] In the description of this invention, it should be understood that terms such as "upper, " "lower, " "front, " "back, " "left, " "right, " "top, " "bottom, " "inner, " "outer, " etc., indicating directional or positional relationships, are based on the directional or positional relationships shown in the figures. These terms are used only to facilitate the description of the invention and simplify the description, and do not indicate or imply that the referred device or element must have a specific orientation, be constructed in a specific orientation, or operate in a specific orientation. Therefore, they should not be understood as limitations of the invention.

[0113] Furthermore, the terms "first" and "second" are used only for descriptive purposes and should not be understood as indicating or implying relative importance or implicitly specifying the number of technical features indicated. Thus, features defined as "first" and "second" explicitly or implicitly include one or more of these features. In the description of this invention, "multiple" means two or more, unless otherwise explicitly and specifically limited.

[0114] Please refer to Figures 1 and 3. An adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat comprises the following structural components: support frame structure 100, up-and-down sliding structure 200, rotary power structure 300, rotary conveying structure 400, calibration structure 500, fixed bending structure 600, bending rod 700, and cutting blade 800. The fixed seat 601 is vertically installed on the middle plate.

[0115] Please refer to Figure 1. The support frame structure consists of upper plate 101, lower plate 102, middle plate 103, back plate 104, and left and right side plates 105. The upper plate is fixed to the middle plate by multiple connecting rods 205. The support frame structure serves to protect and provide fixed support for the rotary power structure.

[0116] Please refer to Figure 1. The up-and-down sliding structure 200 of the adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat includes: upper sliding plate 201, lower sliding plate 202, side sliding plate 203, sliding mounting plate 204, and connecting rod 205. The left and right side sliding plates of the up-and-down sliding structure secure the upper and lower sliding plates to the sliding mounting plate. The upper sliding plate is positioned between the upper plate and middle plate, while the lower sliding plate is between the middle plate and lower plate. When the upper and lower sliding plates move vertically, they do not contact the connecting rods that fix the upper plate and middle plate. The first vertical height of the up-and-down sliding structure aligns the center point 638 of the first bending side notch with the wire center, the second vertical height aligns the center point 639 of the second bending head side notch with the wire center point, and the third vertical height positions the cutting blade edge above the highest point of the wire.

[0117] As an example, the vertical movement of the upper and lower sliding plates in the up-and-down sliding structure is synchronized through the movement of the sliding mounting plate. Due to the lateral forces generated during bending, the distance between the upper and lower sliding plates provides effective resistance against these lateral bending forces.

[0118] Please refer to Figure 2. An adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat has a rotating power structure 300 comprising: a hollow deceleration rotating platform 301 and a flange 302. The hollow deceleration rotating platform of the rotating power structure is installed in the center of the upper sliding plate. The flange at the bottom of the bending rod is fixed to the hollow deceleration rotating platform, which protrudes through the upper plate.

[0119] Please refer to Figure 2. An adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat has a rotary feeding structure 400 comprising: a front bearing seat 401, a rear bearing seat 402, a synchronous wheel 403, a front rotating shaft 404, a wire pressing structure 405, a straightener 406, a straightening fixed plate 407, a storage disk 408, and a wire sleeve 409. The rear bearing fixed seat of the rotary feeding structure is installed at the rear of the fixed plate. A pair of front bearing fixed seats is installed at the front of the fixed plate. The front rotating shaft is fixed to the front end of the feeding mounting plate. The front rotating shaft is fixed to the synchronous wheel, which is positioned between the pair of front bearing seats. The front end of the straightener is installed on the feeding mounting plate, while the rear end is equipped with a rear rotating shaft. The front and rear rotating shafts have a wire-passing hole in the center and a wire-guiding inclined surface at the tail. A wire sleeve with an inner diameter not exceeding 1.5mm and an outer diameter not exceeding 4mm is installed at the front of the front rotating shaft. The up-and-down adjustment structure is fixed on the feeding mounting plate and can adjust the pressure on the wire vertically. The motor drives the front and rear rotating shafts to rotate through the synchronous wheel. Alternatively, the hollow deceleration rotating platform can be used as a power source to provide rotational power.

[0120] Please refer to Figure 3. An adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat has a fixed bending structure comprising: a fixed seat 601, a fixed rod 107, and a bending head 603. The fixed rod is vertically secured at the center of the middle plate. The fixed seat is attached to the upper end of the fixed rod using a positioning pin 607 and screws 608. The rotational center point of the bending head is located on the centerline of the wire channel in the fixed seat, with its distance from the center point of the fixed seat's outlet 602 not exceeding 2mm front to back. The outer side of the bending head forms a 180-190°angle with the wire channel. The shortest distance between the inner wall 621 of the wire channel and the outer side 613 is 0.2-1.5mm. The left and right second bending platforms of the bending head are symmetrically distributed on either side of the first bending platform. The upper surface diameter of the first bending platform 631 and second bending platform 632 is 1-3mm. The distance between the upper surfaces of the first and second bending platforms is 1-8mm. The distance between the upper surface of the first bending platform and the lower surface of the bending head is 10-20mm. The distance between the center point of the side recess 638 on the first bending platform and the center point of the fixed seat's outlet is 1-5mm. The distance between the center point of the side recess 639 on the second bending platform and the center point of the fixed seat's outlet is 2.5-6mm.

[0121] Please refer to Figures 4 and 5. A fixed bending structure 600 consists of a fixed seat composed of a wire channel 621, an outlet 602, an outer side 613, a side inclined surface 614, a rear concave surface 611, a lower concave surface 613, a lower concave body part 615, a lower end surface of the outlet 616, a side end surface of the outlet 617, a rear part of the upper end surface 609, a lower end body part 618, and a circular guide cone hole 620. The outer side, rear concave surface, and lower concave surface form a side recess 610 located on the side of the fixed seat. The bending head consists of the first bending platform, second bending platform, bending head lower recess 633, bending head middle recess 634, first bending platform rear inclined surface 635, bending head slope 636, bending head side surface 637, bending head positioning pin hole 604, and bending head fixing screw hole 605.

[0122] Please refer to Figures 4 and 6. A fixed bending structure is shown where the bending head has only the first bending platform and lacks a second bending platform. The fixed seat comprises a wire channel, outlet, outer side, side inclined surface, rear concave surface, lower concave surface, lower concave body part, lower end surface of the outlet, side end surface of the outlet, rear part of the upper end surface, lower end body part, side end slope 619, and a circular guide cone hole. The outer side, rear concave surface, and lower concave surface form a side recess located on the side of the fixed seat. The bending head consists of the first bending platform, bending head middle recess, bending head slope, bending head side surface, positioning pin hole, and bending head fixing screw hole. A cutting blade vertically penetrates the fixed seat, positioned in front of the rear part of the fixed seat's upper end surface.

[0123] Typically, the side recesses on both ends of the fixed bending structure are symmetrical. The outer side, rear concave surface, and lower concave surface of the side recess ensure that the already bent arrow does not collide and also ensure the strength of the bent wire. The bending head comes in two types: a single bending platform structure and a double bending platform structure. Below the bending platforms on the bending head are designed a lower recess and a middle recess. The lower end of the first bending platform is the middle recess, while below the second bending platform is the lower recess. The single bending platform structure lacks both the second bending platform and the lower recess. The lower and middle recesses of the bending head are designed to prevent collisions between the bending head and the upper and lower end surfaces of the fixed seat's outlet or the already bent wire during the bending process.

[0124] Please refer to Figure 7. An adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat has a cutting blade structure 800 comprising: a blade base 801, a spring 802, blade clips 803, a blade fixing pin hole 804, a top head 805, and a fixed rod nut 806. The blade is located in the through-hole of the fixed seat and fixed rod. The upper part of the blade has a cutting edge, while the lower part is connected to the blade seat through the fixing pin hole. Two blade clips are positioned on either side of the blade seat. A spring is placed between the fixed rod nut and the blade seat. The blade's cross-section is 1-2mm wide and 0.7-1mm high. The distance between the front face of the blade and the outlet is 0.5-3mm. During the blade's vertical sliding motion, the top head on the lower sliding plate moves up to the bottom of the blade fixed seat, then moves further up to compress the spring, causing the blade's cutting edge to move upward and cut the wire. When the lower sliding plate moves down, the compressed spring generates a force that pushes the blade fixed seat downward, moving the blade's cutting edge below the lowest surface of the wire, thus not obstructing wire feeding. In the up-and-down sliding structure, the first vertical height corresponds to the height when the first bending platform bends the wire, the second vertical height corresponds to the height when the second bending platform bends the wire, and the third vertical height corresponds to the height when the blade's cutting edge moves up to cut the wire.

[0125] Please refer to Figures 8 and 9. An adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat has a calibration structure 500 comprising: a side inclined surface 501, an upper side surface 502, a lower side surface 503, an inner arc surface 504, an upper recess 505, and a lower recess 506. The side inclined surface of the calibration structure meshes with the side inclined surface 614 of the fixed seat. The upper side surface of the calibration structure meshes with the side surface 637 of the bending head. The inner arc surface of the calibration structure meshes with the bending column 700. The calibration structure is used to align the position of the bending head 603 with the head of the fixed seat 601, making their center lines coincide. The calibration structure is slowly pushed horizontally from the bending head to the head of the fixed seat until it reaches the upper recess of the calibration structure. When the interior of the calibration structure fully fits with the bending head and the head of the fixed seat, it ensures that the rotational center of the bending head aligns with the exact center of the fixed seat's outlet. At this point, adjust the original point sensor of the bending rod from offto on and secure it with screws to set the hardware origin position of the bending rod. This completes the calibration process.

[0126] Please refer to Figures 10 and 11. The wire 00 passes through the wire channel 621 of the fixed seat and bends to the right. The shortest distance between the inner wall of the wire channel and the outer side can be 0.2mm. If a slope is carved on the outer side of the side recess, forming a new outer side 613, making the shortest distance between the inner wall of the wire channel and the side concave surface 0.2mm, this 0.2mm represents the limit distance from the inner wall of the wire channel to the thickness of the outer side. At this point, the wire can be bent to 191°, as per the following formula:

[0127] tanA=0.8 / 4=0.2 A=arctan0.2≈11° 180°+11°=191°

[0128] Therefore, the maximum bending angle of the fixed bending structure in this invention is 190°. After large-angle bending of 180°-190°, the bent wire will spring back by 10°-30°depending on the material.

[0129] In summary, this invention provides an adams clasp bending device with a vertical fixed seat, which is an improvement and upgrade based on existing bending machines in the market. By adopting a wire feeding structure for automatic wire transportation and setting up a wire fixing structure in conjunction with a wire bending mechanism that bends the wire according to preset parameters in the program, it effectively solves the problems of high difficulty and low efficiency associated with manual wire bending in existing methods.
