Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a foundation fixating arrangement (1) for use in fixating a foundation (15) in a plant bed surrounded by at least a first and a second edging stone pair (31, 32) separating the plant bed from a ground surface, the foundation fixating arrangement (1) comprising a first wire (2a), a first edging stone securing device (20a) arranged to be intermediate said first edging stone pair (31), a second edging stone securing device (20b) arranged to be intermediate said second edging stone pair (32). [0001] A FOUNDATION FIXATING ARRANGEMENT

[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The present disclosure relates to a foundation fixating arrangement and a system comprising said foundation fixating arrangement.

[0004] BACKGROUND

[0005] A plant bed is a designated area of soil where e.g. flowers and grass are grown, often found along roadsides or sidewalks to enhance aesthetics and improve environmental conditions. Plants bed are often delimited by edging stones which fully or partly surround the plant bed from parts of the environment such as roadways. Foundations holding for example road signs are frequently placed in these plant beds because they provide convenient, unobstructed space for installations without interfering with pedestrian walkways or road surfaces.

[0006] However, plant beds consist of loose, aerated soil that is more susceptible to shifting, water saturation, and erosion, making them less stable for supporting these type of structures.

[0007] Therefore, foundations placed in plant beds often tilt or fall during harsh weather conditions due to a combination of soil instability, water saturation, and external forces like wind and frost. When heavy rains soak the soil in the plant beds, it loses its compactness, causing the foundation to tilt. Further, strong winds further weaken these unstable bases, causing road signs, poles, and other structures to tilt or collapse entirely.

[0008] To solve or at least alleviate the above problems, foundations are often fixed in the plant bed by use of concrete or any other environmentally unfriendly material. Consequently, a part of the plant bed will be useless as it is destroyed by the concrete. Additionally, the concrete, at least in the long term, degrades the planting area. Thus, even though there are solutions, such as concrete, that are capable of fixing the foundations in the plant bed to prevent them from tilting or collapsing, the concrete does not perform its function in accordance with requirements. Thus, the problem of tilted or collapsed foundations still occur to a larger extent than desirable.Based on the above, there is a need for a foundation fixating arrangement that is efficient in fixating foundation to a plant bed without degrading the plant bed.

[0009] SUMMARY

[0010] It is therefore an object of the present disclosure to alleviate at least some of the mentioned drawbacks to provide a foundation fixating arrangement and system.

[0011] This and other objects, which will become apparent in the following, are achieved by a foundation fixating arrangement and a system as defined in the appended claims.

[0012] The present disclosure is at least partly based on the insight that a foundation fixating arrangement comprising at least a first wire which loop around the foundation to fixate the foundation in said plant bed provides an efficient way of securing a foundation to a plant bed without deteriorating the plant bed.

[0013] The present disclosure relates to a foundation fixating arrangement for use in fixating a foundation in a plant bed surrounded by at least a first and a second edging stone pair separating the plant bed from a ground surface. The ground surface may be a sidewalk or a roadway. The foundation fixating arrangement comprises a first wire and a first edging stone securing device arranged to be intermediate said first edging stone pair. Further, the arrangement comprises a second edging stone securing device arranged to be intermediate said second edging stone pair. Moreover, each one of the first and second edging stone securing devices is arranged to, in a mounted state, support a corresponding edging stone pair of said first and second edging stone pair along a depth axis thereof, for preventing each pair from tilting into said plant bed. Further, the first wire is connected to (at least) a first plate of a corresponding edging stone securing device of said first and second edging stone securing device. The first plate being arranged to be intermediate said corresponding pair of edging stones and the plant bed and extend along inner surfaces of each corresponding pair of edging stones. Furthermore, the first wire is arranged to loop around said foundation to fixate the foundation in said plant bed.Advantageously, the foundation fixating arrangement is operable to fix the foundation within a plant bed in a manner which is efficient without restricting space of the plant bed.

[0014] Preferably, the first wire is underground. In other words, buried under / in the plant bed.

[0015] Accordingly, the first wire may be embedded in the plant bed so that the first wire is not visible.

[0016] In some aspects, the foundation fixating arrangement additionally comprises a second wire, wherein each wire is connected to a first plate of a corresponding edging stone securing device of said first and second edging stone securing device (i.e. each wire is associated to / connected to its own plate). The first plate being arranged to be intermediate said corresponding pair of edging stones and the plant bed and extend along inner surfaces of each corresponding pair of edging stones. Further, the first and the second wires are arranged to loop around said foundation from different positions, to jointly fixate the foundation in said plant bed. In such an aspect, each wire may be positioned / tensioned to fixate the foundation in a manner that prevents the foundation from tilting or falling. The wires may be tensioned to apply an inward force (e.g. radial) towards the centre of the foundation. In other words, each wire may be tensioned (between the foundation and the edging stone securing device) to apply a compressive force from different positions to secure / fix the foundation in the plant bed. The compressive force exerted from each wire may be the same. The looped wires may each form substantially a U-shape or a teardrop loop.

[0017] Advantageously, this provides further improved fixation of the foundation in the plant bed. The first plates may be on opposite sides of the foundation such that the foundation is intermediate the first plates. Hence, the wires may loop around the foundation from opposite positions, or substantially opposite positions.

[0018] In another aspect, the first wire comprises a pair of first opposite ends, each first end being connected to a corresponding one of said first plates, wherein the first wire at least partly fixates the foundation in said plant bed via the first plates. Accordingly, a single wire may be connected to both edging stone securing devices so fixate the foundation in said plant bed. The wire end portions may in such an aspect form a 85-95 degree angle between each other, preferably substantially 90 degrees. In other aspects, the end portions may form any other angle.Advantageously, this allow for a more compact and convenient fixation of the foundation as only a single wire is used.

[0019] It should be noted that the foundation may simultaneously be buried in the plant bed, so that the material / compound in the plant bed stabilizes the foundation to some extent. The foundation may be fully surrounded by plant bed material / media / compound such that there is no contact between the foundation and any other means e.g. concrete or stone etc.

[0020] The foundation fixating arrangement may comprise a strap adjustment mechanism arranged to provide means for a user to adjust a length or tension of a part of each wire that is arranged to loop around said foundation.

[0021] A benefit of this is that the wire(s) can be properly tensioned about the foundation.

[0022] The strap adjustment mechanism is at least one of a ratchet mechanism, a clamp mechanism, a slider mechanism, a buckle mechanism, a spring loaded buckle mechanism, or any other suitable strap adjustment mechanism.

[0023] Further, the strap adjustment mechanism may be integrated in or integral with said first plate and / or said second plate. Accordingly, the strap adjustment mechanism may be part of an edging stone securing device, preferably part of the first plate.

The beam or pole may have a road sign, light or any other sign attached to an end thereof. The term "structural element" may be interchanged with fixture.

[0046] Figure 1 illustrates an objective view of a foundation fixating arrangement 1 used in fixating a foundation 15 in a plant bed surrounded by a first and a second edging stone pair 31, 32 in accordance with a first aspect in which the foundation fixating arrangement 1 comprises a first and a second wire 2a, 2b. The edging stone pairs 31, 32 illustrated in Figure 1 separate the plant bed from a ground surface (e.g. vehicle roadway or pedestrian sidewalk). Accordingly, even though not illustrated in Figure 1, the foundation 15 may be surrounded soil / plants etc. of the plant bed. Moreover, Figure 1 illustrates that the foundation fixating arrangement 1 comprises a first edging stone securing device 20a arranged intermediate said first edgingstone pair 31 and a second edging stone securing device 20a arranged intermediate said second edging stone pair 32. In other words, the edging stone securing devices 20a, 20b are arranged to fix the edging stone pairs 31, 32 between the plant bed and ground surface.

[0047] Thus, Figure 1 illustrates that each one of the first and second edging stone securing devices 20a, 20b are arranged to, in a mounted state, support a corresponding edging stone pair 31, 32 of said first and second edging stone pair along a depth axis dl thereof, for preventing each pair 31, 32 from tilting into said plant bed.

[0048] The first wire 2a is connected to the first plate 21a of edging stone securing device 20a (not seen in the angle of Figure 1) and the second wire 2b is connected to first plate 21b of device 20b. Accordingly, each first plate 21a, 21b is arranged to be intermediate said corresponding pair of edging stones 31, 32 and the plant bed and extend along inner surfaces si of each corresponding pair of edging stones 31, 32. Moreover, Figure 1 illustrates that the first wire 2a loops around said foundation 15 to fixate the foundation 15 in said plant bed. Additionally, Figure 1 illustrates that the second wire 2b also loops around said foundation 15 to jointly with the first wire 2a fixate the foundation in said plant bed.

[0049] Hence, the wires 2a, 2b may be tensioned to exert a pulling force from different positions e.g. from opposite, or substantially opposite positions. The phrase "opposite positions" within the context of the present disclosure may not refer to that the first plates 21a, 21b face each other strictly, but rather that one of the first plates 21a are intermediate edging stones 31 which are part of a first row and the other one of the first plates 21b are intermediate edging stones 32 part of another second row which parallel but separate of the first row, as illustrated in Figure 1. However, in some aspects, the term "opposite" may refer to that the first plates 21a, 21b are strictly opposite, so that they are parallel with a common reference plane (this is shown in Figure 3). As illustrated in Figure 1, each wire 2a, 2b once looped about the foundation, comprises a first and a second leg 11, 12 which are merged by the part of the wire that is looped and in contact with the foundation 15. Accordingly, as at least part of the legs of the wires 2a, 2b are tensioned, the foundation 15 can be fixed in the plant bed.

[0050] Preferably, the wires 2a, 2b are substantially equally tensioned. However, depending on density distribution in the plant bed, the wires 2a, 2b may be tensioned with different magnitudes. Nonetheless, preferably, the wires 2a, 2b should be tensioned so a tensile forceacts on the wire (e.g. so the wire is stretched). As illustrated in Figure 1, each wire 2a, 2b may loop about 180 degrees around the foundation 15.

[0051] The foundation 15 may, as illustrated in Figure 1, be circular in cross-section, or have any other suitable cross-section, i.e. any polygonal shape. The foundation 15 may have channels / pockets for mating with at least a part, or the whole part of each wire 2a, 2b which contacts / abuts the foundation 15. The channels / pockets may be integral with the foundation 15 or may be a structural part attached to the foundation 15.

As illustrated in Figure 1, the first wire 2a may loop for at least 360 degrees around the foundation 15. In other aspects, the wire 2a may only circumfuse one part of the foundation 15 (i.e. not loop 360 degrees around the foundation). Accordingly, each leg 11, 12 of the wire 2a may be tensioned so to fully prevent the foundation 15 from falling / tilting in one direction. This configuration may be provided in instances where e.g. it is deemed as damaging if the foundation 15 falls in one particular direction (which may be associated with a vulnerable structure such as a building, glass components, roadway etc.). In Figure 2, there is a (vulnerable) structure ml, wherein the wire 2a is tensioned to mainly prevent the foundation 15 from tilting into said structure si along a damaging direction fl. Even though the first plates 21a, 21b form a 90 degree angle between each other in Figure 2, they may be parallel also in other aspects so to be on opposite sides of the foundation 15. Further, in some aspects, the wire 2a may encircle the foundation 15 for more than one turn, e.g. two, three turns or more etc.

[0054] Figure 3 illustrates a top view of the foundation fixating arrangement 1. Figure 3 illustrates that the plates 21a, 21b are parallel on opposite sides of the foundation 15. Further, Figure 3 illustrates that each wire 2a, 2b loop 180 degrees around the foundation from opposite positions so that the looped portions of the wire jointly fully encircle the foundation 15.Figure 3 further illustrates that each edging stone securing device 20a, 20b further comprises an optional second plate 21a', 21b' and a connection element 23 extending in a first direction, the connection element 23 having a first end portion and an opposite second end portion, wherein the first plate is attached to said first end portion and the second plate is attached to said second end portion. In other words, the connection element 23 may adjoin the first and second plates 21a, 21a', 21b, 21b'. Further, each connection element 23 is arranged to, at said mounted state which is illustrated in Figure 3, be fitted intermediate a corresponding one of said first and a second edging stone pair 31, 32. The end portions may be at ends of the connection element 23. Moreover, the first and the second plate of each edging stone securing device 20a, 20b being arranged to, in said mounted state, jointly support said first and second edging stones pairs 31, 32 along said depth axis dl. Moreover, each second plate 21a', 21b' is arranged to, at said mounted state, be attached to or embedded in a ground surface, wherein each second plate 21a, 21b is parallel to, and directly or indirectly in contact with an ambient facing inner surface si (i.e. plant bed facing) of a corresponding edging stone pair 31, 32. As illustrated in Figure 3, the first and the second plate of each edging stone securing device 20a, 20b may have different orientations.

[0055] Figure 3 further illustrates that the first wire comprises a pair of first opposite ends, the second wire comprises a pair of second opposite ends, wherein the opposite ends of each wire may at the mounted state, be connected to said first plate of a corresponding edging stone securing device of said first and second edging stone securing device. However, in other aspects, the wires 2a, 2b may each be a continuous wire.

[0056] As the second plate 21a', 21b' is attached to, and / or embedded in said ground surface, and the first plate (which is connected to the first plate via the connection element 23) extends (and is preferably abutting) along the ambient facing inner surface si of at least one edging stone pair 31, 32, each edging stone device 20a, 20b will support and secure / fix their associated edging stones 31, 32 to its position, thereby preventing / reducing the risk of the edging stone being dislocated. Accordingly, as the wires 2a, 2b form a locking configuration between the edging stone securing devices 31, 32 and the foundation 15, the foundation can be fixed to the plant bed efficiently without the need of any concrete (or other embedding material / element) in said plant bed. Hence, an arrangement is provided that secure both theedging stones 32, 32 and the foundation 15 in relation to the plant bed without deteriorating the plant bed or significantly reducing a space therein for the plants / soil etc.

[0057] The second plates 21a', 21b' may be attached to or embedded in said ground surface by that an embedding material, which may be the same as the material of the solid surface, (e.g. asphalt and / or concrete), may be poured / paved over the first plate when said embedding material is at a liquid state. Hence, the embedding material will anchor / fix the first plate to said ground after the material has dried / solidified. Thereby, the first plate will be attached to ground surface which would have been provided anyway since the ground surface will be utilized as a road surface or pedestrian surface.

[0058] Each second plate 21a', 21b' may comprise at least one through hole, preferably 2-8 through holes. Each through hole 36 may have a radius of at least 10 mm or at least 20 mm or at least 30 mm. This is beneficial as the ground surface is able to extend through the through holes to further secure the second plate 21a' 21b' to the ground surface.

[0059] The edging stones in Figure 3 are in the form of cuboids with a height of around 12-40 cm. The connection element 23 is inserted intermediate sides of adjacent cuboids, in which the sides face each other. Hence, the length of the connection element 23 should be greater than the depth of the adjacent edging stones through which it extends between.

[0060] As illustrated in Figure 3, the connection element 23 may be an oblong pole or any other suitable type of oblong structure. The connection element 23 may be a flat oblong plate. The first plate 21a, 21b may be of any suitable shape and dimension. The first plate 21a, 21b may have an orientation which is different from the orientation of the corresponding second plate 21a', 21b'. The first plate 21a may form an angle of 75-105 degrees relative said second plate, preferably 80-100 degrees, more preferably 85-95 degrees, more preferably 88-92 degrees, or 90 degrees (substantially perpendicular) relative the second plate 21a', 21b'.

[0061] Such an orientation of the plates relative each other allow for (a largest surface of) one of the plates to be parallel with a vertically (when mounted) extending side of the edging stone and the other one may (have a largest surface which) be at least partially parallel or similarly oriented as the ground surface. Accordingly, at said mounted state, the plate parallel with the ground / solid surface may be fixed / anchored to the ground surface (via solidified / curedembedding material) to consequently, with the other plate, prevent the edging stone pair 31, 32 from tilting / fal ling / sla nting / tipping / rolling / tu m bling over / into the plant bed. Hence, forces exerted along a depth axis dl of a first plate 21a, 21b will be at least partially absorbed by the edging stone securing device 20a, 20b. In other words, the anchoring of each second plate 21a', 21b' into the ground surface will prevent the corresponding first plate 21a, 21b from towards the plant bed to prevent the edging stones of each pair 31, 32 to be ti Ited / fa 11 inside a rain bed. The first plate 21a, 21b may be abutting the edging stones without being attached or fixed to the edging stones, i.e. the first plate 21a, 21b may simply be supporting the edging stones via the second plates 21a', 21b'.

[0062] The first plate may have a width and height of 7-15 cm, or 5-25 cm or 5-40 cm. The second plate may have a width and height of 7-15 cm, or 5-25 cm or 5-40 cm. The area defined by the width and heights may be referred to as the largest surface area. The thickness of the plates may be 1-10 or 1-25 mm. The material of the plates / connecting elements may be metal, iron or any other suitable material. The connection element 23 may be integral with at least one of the first and second plates 21a, 21b, 21a', 21b' or the connection element 23 may be integral with one of the plates (preferably the first 21a, 21b) and attached to the other by fastening elements (screw, adhesive or the like).

[0063] Figure 4 illustrates a side cross-sectional view of the foundation fixating arrangement part of a system 100 in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. Figure 4 illustrates that the foundation 15 is arranged to accommodate a structural element 25, the structural element 25 being a beam, pole or any other structural element. In Figure 4 the structural element 25 is a pole with a road sign at its end. The pole 25 is inserted into the foundation 15 so to be fixed to the foundation 15.

[0064] Figure 4 further illustrates that each edging stone securing device comprise a first plate 21a, 21b, a second plate 21a', 21b' and a connection element 23 between corresponding first and second plates 21a, 21b, 21a', 21b' wherein the second plate 21a', 21b' is associated / in contact with a ground surface gl and the first plate 21a, 21b is in contact with the plant bed pl where the edging stones part of each pair 31, 32 separate the first plate from the second plate 21a, 21b, 21a', 21b'.Figure 4 illustrates that each plate 21a, 21b, 21a', 21b' may be fully buried in its respective surface i.e. the plant bed pl and the ground surface gl, so to be buried in the respective surface and be non-visible from an outside view. Moreover, also the wires 2a, 2b may be buried and invisible to the human eye as illustrated in Figure 4. Figure 4 further illustrates that the foundation 15 may be at least partially buried in the plant bed gl, however, in some aspects, the foundation 15 may also be fully buried in the plant bed gl so that only the fixture 25 is visible extending from the plant bed.

CLAIMS1. A foundation fixating arrangement (1) for use in fixating a foundation (15) in a plant bed surrounded by at least a first and a second edging stone pair (31, 32) separating the plant bed from a ground surface, the foundation fixating arrangement (1) comprising:a first wire (2a);a first edging stone securing device (20a) arranged to be intermediate said first edging stone pair (31);a second edging stone securing device (20b) arranged to be intermediate said second edging stone pair (32);wherein each one of the first and second edging stone securing device (20a, 20b) is arranged to, in a mounted state, support a corresponding edging stone pair (31, 32) of said first and second edging stone pair along a depth axis (dl) thereof, for preventing each pair (31, 32) from tilting into said plant bed.wherein the first wire (2a) is connected to a first plate (21a, 21b) of a corresponding edging stone securing device of said first and second edging stone securing device (20a, 20b), the first plate (21a, 21b) being arranged to be intermediate said corresponding pair of edging stones (31, 32) and the plant bed and extend along inner surfaces (si) of each corresponding pair of edging stones (31, 32);wherein the first wire (2a) is arranged to loop around said foundation (15) to fixate the foundation (15) in said plant bed.

The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to claim 1, further comprising a second wire (2b), wherein each wire (2a, 2b) is connected to a first plate (21a, 21b) of a corresponding edging stone securing device of said first and second edging stone securing device (20a, 20b), each first plate (21a, 21b) being arranged to be intermediate said corresponding pair of edging stones (31, 32) and the plant bed and extend along inner surfaces (si) of each corresponding pair of edging stones (31, 32);wherein the first and the second wires (2a, 2b) are arranged to loop around said foundation from different positions, to jointly fixate the foundation (15) in said plant bed.

The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to claim 1, wherein the first wire (2a) comprises a pair of first opposite ends (el, e2), each first end (el, e2) being connected to a corresponding one of said first plates (21a, 21b), wherein the first wire (2a) at least partly fixates the foundation (15) in said plant bed via the first plates (21a, 21b) of the first and the second edging stone securing device (20a, 20b).

The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the foundation fixating arrangement (1) comprises a strap adjustment mechanism (26) arranged to provide means for a user to adjust a length or tension of a part of each wire that is arranged to loop around said foundation (15).

The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the strap adjustment mechanism (26) is at least one of a ratchet mechanism, a clamp mechanism, a slider mechanism, a buckle mechanism, a spring loaded buckle mechanism, or any other suitable strap adjustment mechanism.

6. The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to any one of the claims 4 or 5, wherein the strap adjustment mechanism is integrated in or integral with said first plate and / or said second plate.

7. The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the foundation is arranged to accommodate a structural element, the structural element being a beam, pole or any other structural element.

The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to claim 2, wherein the first wire (2a) comprises a pair of first opposite ends, the second wire (2b) comprises a pair of second opposite ends, wherein the opposite ends of each wire (2a, 2b) are arranged to,at a mounted state, be connected to said first plate (21a, 21b) of a corresponding edging stone securing device (20a, 20b) of said first and second edging stone securing device 20a, 20b).

9. The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each wire (2a, 2b) is a continuous loop wire.

The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each edging stone securing device (20a, 20b) further comprises;a second plate (21a', 21b');a connection element (23) extending in a first direction, the connection element (23) having a first end portion and an opposite second end portion, wherein the first plate (21a, 21b) is attached to said first end portion and the second plate is attached to said second end portion;wherein each connection element (23) is arranged to, at said mounted state, be fitted intermediate a corresponding one of said first and a second edging stone pair (31, 32), the first and the second plate (21a, 21b, 21a', 21b') of each edging stone securing device (20a, 20b) being arranged to, in said mounted state, jointly support corresponding ones of said first and second edging stones pairs (31, 32) along said depth axis (dl).

11. The foundation fixating arrangement (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each second plate (21a', 21b') is arranged to, at said mounted state, be attached to or embedded in a ground surface so that each first and second plate (21a, 21a', 21b, 21b') of each edging stone securing device (20a, 20b) are on opposite sides of pairs of edging stones (31, 32) at said mounted state.

A system (100) comprising:a plant bed (pl);at least a first and a second edging stone pair (31, 32) surrounding the plant bed (pl) and separating the plant bed (pl) from a ground surface (gl);a foundation (15);the foundation fixating arrangement (1) of any one of the preceding claims; wherein the first wire is arranged to loop around said foundation (15) to fixate the foundation (15) in said plant bed.
