Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a light generation system and a lamp or luminaire including such a light generation system. Background Art

[0002] Solid-state lighting devices that include an adjustable melatonin suppression effect are known in the art. For example, US 9,039,746 describes a solid-state lighting device that includes a plurality of LED components to provide an adjustable melatonin suppression effect. The plurality of LED components can be operated simultaneously according to different operating modes, according to which the combined output of the plurality of LED components provides the same or similar chromaticity, but the melatonin suppression effect provided differs by at least a predetermined threshold amount between different operating modes. The switching between operating modes can be triggered by a user input element, a timer / clock, or a sensor (e.g., a light sensor). The chromaticity of the combined output of the plurality of LED components can also be adjusted while providing an adjustable melatonin suppression effect at each selected combined output chromaticity. Summary of the Invention

[0003] Melatonin is essential for our sleep / wake cycle and is a hormone that promotes nighttime sleep. Melatonin is a sleep-supporting hormone that we only produce around (and during) our usual bedtime. Light in the evening and at night suppresses the natural production of melatonin. When the spectrum of light shifts towards lower CCT and intensity levels (such as at dawn and dusk), this reduces the suppression of melatonin and makes the light less disruptive to sleep. During the day, natural daylight with a high correlated color temperature (CCT, also referred to as "color temperature" herein) and intensity stimulates people's vitality and keeps them awake and alert. Currently, high-performance LED-based lighting devices with tunable CCT can, to some extent, simulate different phases of daylight, i.e., changes in the spectral power distribution and changes in CCT.

[0004] In addition to the common cone and rod cells, the human eye also has melanopsin-containing photoreceptors that affect the synchronization of the circadian rhythm and the secretion of melatonin, and these photoreceptors are sensitive within a specific wavelength range. The relative spectral sensitivities of the classical receptors (rod and cone cells) and the melanopsin receptor are as Figure 5 shown (see also R.J. Lucas, et al., Measuring and using light in the melanopsin age, Trends in Neurosciences, Vol. 37, No. 1, January 2014, pp. 1-9; http: / / www.sciencedirect.com / science / article / pii / S0166223613001975 ,the report "CIE TN 003:2015: Report on the First International Workshop on Circadian and Neurophysiological Photometry, 2013" at http: / / cie.co.at / index.php?i_ca_id=978 (with a link to an excel toolbox http: / / files.cie.co.at / 784_TN003_Toolbox.xls).

[0005] If the spectral power in the melanopsin wavelength range is absent or low, the inhibitory effect of light on melatonin production is small, leading to faster sleep onset and more stable sleep. If the spectral power in the melanopsin range increases, light will cause stronger melatonin inhibition. Generally, when the power in the melanopsin range (and the ability to suppress melatonin at night) increases, light can be said to have higher biological activity and higher alertness.

[0006] The effectiveness of a given spectrum in suppressing melatonin production can be expressed by the melanopic daylight efficacy ratio (MDER). The melanopic efficiency of a spectrum can be calculated using the MDER (i.e., the melanopic daylight efficacy ratio). In this case, instead of an equal-energy light source, the D65 light source is used, that is, the CIE standard light source D65 is used as a reference. The CIE standard light source is a commonly used standard light source defined by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). The MDER can be defined as the illuminance (in lux) of the D65 source required to generate the same iPRGC stimulation per lux of the test source (or test system). The term MELR refers to the melanopic effect of the luminous radiation (in mW / Lm).

[0007] The MELR value (the melanopic effect of the luminous radiation) can also be used instead of the MDER value. Regarding the calculation of the MDER value and the MELR value, the following can be mentioned. For the test spectrum to be evaluated, it is possible to calculate how many mW are in the iPRGC-sensitive region of the spectrum of the test source (by weighting the spectrum). It is also possible to calculate how many Lm are generated. The ratio of the melanopic power (in mW) to the lumen (in Lm) is called the MELR value. For the D65 reference spectrum, this calculation can also be performed. The MELR of D65 = 1.326 mW / Lm. The ratio of the MELR value of the test spectrum to be evaluated to the MELR value (D65) of the reference spectrum is called the MDER. The MDER is a unitless value.

[0008] Therefore, the MELR can be expressed in mW / Lm, where the mW is obtained by It is calculated. The lumen in units of Lm is calculated in the normal way. Here, is the spectral power distribution of the light emitted by the light generating device, is the melanopsin sensitivity function, is the photopic luminosity function.

[0009] As indicated above, in particular, MDEF (further denoted as MDER in this article) is applied. The definition of MDER is as follows:

[0010] Melanopsin - DER = (Melanopsin - ELR of the test source) / (Melanopsin - ELR of the D65 source) = (Melanopsin - ELR of the test source) / 1.326

[0011] As indicated above, the biological effect of lighting is the product of illuminance (lux at the eye) * MDER * (exposure time). In addition, the exposure time (morning / evening) also determines the impact on people. Under normal indoor lighting conditions, the stimulation of IPRGC during the day is too low (e.g., 500 lux, 4000K on an office desk, MDER ~ 0.6).

[0012] It seems desirable to enrich the lighting with light similar to cyan. Therefore, high - melanopsin lighting uses a cyan - like light - enriched spectrum. In order to be able to select or tune the MDER value of the light, it seems necessary to use two different types of white light sources, namely, a light source with a relatively high relative spectral power in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm and a light source with a relatively low relative spectral power in the range of 470 nm - 500 nm but a relatively high spectral power in the range of 440 nm - 470 nm. The latter light can have a relatively low MDER value. The former can have relatively more spectral power in the longer blue wavelength range and / or cyan wavelength range, while the latter can have relatively more spectral power in the blue and shorter blue wavelength ranges. Even with substantially the same color point (using the 2° color - matching function) and substantially the same correlated color temperature, these two types of light can have substantially different MDER values (such as about 2 times between the MDER values). However, even with substantially the same color point (using the 10° color - matching function), human observers seem to be able to see the color difference of some luminaires, such as panel and lens luminaires for example. Such observers seem to observe blue or green light from a blue pump - up light source, and pink or purple light from a cyan - like light source. Therefore, previously, the color points could be matched using 10℃ MF (color - matching function; see also below), and thus the color points using 2℃ MF look very different. People may see this color difference when looking at the luminaires. This may not be very desirable.

[0013] Accordingly, one aspect of the present invention is to provide an alternative light generation system which preferably further at least partially eliminates one or more of the above disadvantages. The object of the present invention may be to overcome or improve at least one of the disadvantages of the prior art, or to provide a useful alternative.

[0014] According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a light generation system ("system") comprising a first light generation device and a second light generation device. In particular, the second device light may include at least a portion of the second source light and at least a portion of the second luminescent material light. In a particular embodiment, with respect to the total spectral power distribution in the visible light wavelength range of (the respective device light), one of the first device light and the second device light may have a relatively higher contribution in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm than the other of the first device light or the second device light. In a particular embodiment, the main first chromaticity point (x 2_1 、y 2_1 ) and the main second chromaticity point (x 2_2 、y 2_2) The difference between them can be within 10 SDCM (Standard Deviation of Color Matching), and more particularly within about 6 SDCM. Additionally, in a particular embodiment, the combined light including the combination of the first device light and the second device light may include: (i) the auxiliary color point (x 10_sum , y 10_sum ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function can be configured within 10 SDCM from the Black Body Locus (BBL), and more particularly within 6 SDCM; (ii) the correlated color temperature (T cc ) of the combined light can be selected from the range of 2700K - 10000K, and more particularly 3000K - 8000K. In an embodiment, the present invention provides a light generation system, which includes a first light generation device and a second light generation device, wherein: (A) The first light generation device is configured to generate a first device light, and the first device light has a main first color point (x 2_1 , y 2_1 ) calculated using the CIE1931 2° color matching function and an auxiliary first color point (x 10_1 , y 10_1 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function; (B) The second light generation device is configured to generate a second device light having a main second color point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) calculated using the CIE 1931 2° color matching function and an auxiliary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function; (C) With respect to the total spectral power distribution within the visible light wavelength range, one of the first device light and the second device light can have a relatively higher contribution within the wavelength range of 470nm - 500nm than the other of the first device light or the second device light; (D) The difference between the main first color point (x 2_1 , y 2_1 ) and the main second color point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) is within 6 SDCM; and (E) The combined light including the combination of the first device light and the second device light includes: (i) the auxiliary color point (x 10_sum , y 10_sum ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function is configured within 6 SDCM from the Black Body Locus, and (ii) the correlated color temperature (T cc)Selected from the range of 3000K - 8000K. Thus, in a particular embodiment, the present invention provides a light generation system comprising a first light generation device and a second light generation device, wherein: (A) the first light generation device is configured to generate first device light having a main first chromaticity point (x 2_1 , y 2_1 ) calculated using the CIE 1931 2° color matching function and a secondary first chromaticity point (x 10_1 , y 10_1 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function; wherein the first light generation device comprises a first (solid state) light source and a first luminescent material, the first light source being configured to generate first source light, the first luminescent material being configured to convert at least a portion of the first source light into first luminescent material light, wherein the first source light has a first dominant wavelength (λ d1 ) selected from the wavelength range of 440nm - 470nm, and wherein the first device light comprises at least a portion of the first source light and at least a portion of the first luminescent material light; (B) the second light generation device is configured to generate second device light having a main second chromaticity point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) calculated using the CIE 1931 2° color matching function and a secondary second chromaticity point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function; wherein the second light generation device comprises a second (solid state) light source configured to generate second source light and a second luminescent material configured to convert at least a portion of the second source light into second luminescent material light, wherein the second source light has a second dominant wavelength (λ d2 ) selected from the wavelength range of 470nm - 500nm, and wherein the second device light comprises at least a portion of the second source light and at least a portion of the second luminescent material light; (C) with respect to the total spectral power distribution within the visible light wavelength range, one of the first device light and the second device light has a relatively higher contribution in the wavelength range of 470nm - 500nm than the other of the first device light or the second device light; (D) the difference between the main first chromaticity point (x 2_1 , y 2_1 ) and the main second chromaticity point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) is within 6 SDCM; and (E) the combined light comprising the combination of the first device light and the second device light comprises: (i) a secondary chromaticity point (x 10_sum , y 10_sum ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function, configured to be within 6 SDCM of the blackbody locus, and (ii) a correlated color temperature (T cc)。

[0015] Using such a light generation system, basically no color difference (2°) can be seen when observing the luminaire, and "normal" white light (10°) can be observed in the room (especially without unwanted color effects).

[0016] As described above, the present invention provides a light generation system, which includes a first light generation device and a second light generation device. Note that the term "first light generation device" may refer to one or more first light generation devices. Similarly, the term "second light generation device" may refer to one or more second light generation devices. Therefore, the system may include one or more first light generation devices and one or more second light generation devices. Below, some aspects related to the light generation device are described.

[0017] The light generation device can be particularly configured to generate device light. In particular, the light generation device may include a light source. The light source can be particularly configured to generate source light. In an embodiment, the device light may consist essentially of the source light. In other embodiments, the device light may consist essentially of the converted source light. In other embodiments, the device light may include (unconverted) source light and converted source light. The source light can be converted into luminescent material light with a luminescent material and / or into upconverted light with an upconverter (see also below). The term "light generation device" may also refer to a plurality of light generation devices that can provide device light with substantially the same spectral power distribution. In a particular embodiment, the term "light generation device" may also refer to a plurality of light generation devices that can provide device light with different spectral power distributions.

[0018] The light generation device may include one or more light sources, more particularly one or more solid-state light sources. In addition, the light generation device may include optics. In an embodiment, the light (i.e., source light) escaping from one or more light sources (from one or more light sources) may be beam-shaped via the optics. The device light may particularly include the source light. More particularly, the device light may consist essentially of the (source) light of one or more light sources.

[0019] The term "light source" can in principle relate to any light source known in the art. It can be a traditional (tungsten) light bulb, a low-pressure mercury lamp, a high-pressure mercury lamp, a fluorescent lamp, an LED (light-emitting diode). In a particular embodiment, the light source comprises a solid-state LED light source (such as an LED or a laser diode (or "diode laser")). The term "light source" can also relate to a plurality of light sources, such as 2 - 2000 (solid-state) LED light sources. Thus, the term LED can also refer to a plurality of LEDs. Furthermore, in an embodiment, the term "light source" can also refer to a so-called chip-on-board (COB) light source. The term "COB" particularly refers to an LED chip in the form of a semiconductor chip, which is neither encapsulated nor connected, but is directly mounted on a substrate such as a PCB. Thus, a plurality of light-emitting semiconductor light sources can be configured on the same substrate. In an embodiment, a COB is a multi-LED chip configured together as a single lighting module. The term "light source" can also refer to a chip-scale package (CSP). A CSP can include a single solid-state die, on which a layer comprising a light-emitting material is provided. The term "light source" can also refer to a mid-power package. A mid-power package can include one or more solid-state dies. The (plural) dies can be covered by a layer comprising a light-emitting material. The die size can be equal to or less than 2 mm, such as in the range of 0.2 mm - 2 mm. Thus, in an embodiment, the light source comprises a solid-state light source. Furthermore, in a particular embodiment, the light source comprises a chip-scale package LED. Here, the term "light source" can also particularly refer to a small solid-state light source, such as having a mini size or a micro size. For example, the light source can include one or more of a mini LED and a micro LED. In particular, in an embodiment, the light source comprises a micro LED or "microLED" or "μLED". Here, the term mini size or mini LED particularly refers to a solid-state light source having a size (such as a die size, particularly length and width) selected from the range of 100 μm - 1 mm. Here, the term μ size or micro LED particularly refers to a solid-state light source having a size (such as a die size, particularly length and width) selected from the range of 100 μm and less.

[0020] The light source can have a light-emitting surface. For a traditional light source such as a light bulb or a fluorescent lamp, it can be the outer surface of a glass or quartz enclosure. For example, for an LED, it can be the LED die, or when resin is applied to the LED die, it can be the outer surface of the resin. In principle, it can also be the end of an optical fiber. The term emitting surface particularly relates to a part of the light source, i.e., the place where light actually leaves or escapes from the light source. The light source is configured to provide a light beam. This light beam (therefore) escapes from the light-emitting surface of the light source.

[0021] Similarly, the light generation device can include a light-emitting surface, such as an end window. Furthermore, similarly, the light generation system can include a light-emitting surface, such as an end window.

[0022] The term "light source" may refer to a semiconductor light-emitting device, such as a light-emitting diode (LED), a resonant cavity light-emitting diode (RCLED), a vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL), an edge-emitting laser, etc. The term "light source" may also refer to an organic light-emitting diode (OLED), such as a passive matrix (PMOLED) or an active matrix (AMOLED). In a particular embodiment, the light source includes a solid-state light source (such as an LED or a laser diode). In one embodiment, the light source includes an LED (light-emitting diode). The term "light source" or "solid-state light source" may also refer to a superluminescent diode (SLED). The term LED may also refer to a plurality of LEDs. The term "light source" may also relate to a plurality of (substantially identical (or different)) light sources, such as 2-2000 solid-state light sources. In an embodiment, the light source may include one or more micro-optical elements (micro-lens arrays) downstream of a single solid-state light source (such as an LED) or downstream of a plurality of solid-state light sources (i.e., shared by a plurality of LEDs). In an embodiment, the light source may include an LED with on-chip optics. In an embodiment, the light source includes a pixelated single LED (with or without optics) (on-chip beam steering will be provided in an embodiment).

[0023] The terms "upstream" and "downstream" relate to the arrangement of items or features related to the propagation of light from a light generation device (here particularly a light source), where, relative to a first position within a light beam from the light generation device, a second position in the light beam closer to the light generation device is "upstream", and a third position in the light beam farther from the light generation device is "downstream".

[0024] In an embodiment, the light source may be configured to provide primary radiation that is used as is, for example a blue light source, such as a blue LED, or a green light source, such as a green LED, and a red light source, such as a red LED. Such an LED that may not include a luminescent material ("phosphor") may be indicated as a direct color LED. However, in other embodiments, the light source may be configured to provide primary radiation, and a portion of the primary radiation is converted to secondary radiation. The secondary radiation may be based on the conversion of a luminescent material. Thus, the secondary radiation may also be indicated as luminescent material radiation. In an embodiment, the luminescent material may be included in the light source, such as an LED having a luminescent material layer or a dome including a luminescent material. Such an LED may be indicated as a phosphor-converted LED or a PC LED (phosphor-converted LED). In other embodiments, the luminescent material may be configured at a certain distance ("remote") from the light source, such as an LED having a luminescent material layer that is not in physical contact with the die of the LED. Thus, in a particular embodiment, the light source may be a light source that emits light having a wavelength selected from the range of 380 nm - 470 nm during operation. However, other wavelengths are also possible. Such light may be partially converted by the luminescent material.

[0025] In an embodiment, the light generating device may include a luminescent material. In an embodiment, the light generating device may include a PCLED. In other embodiments, the light generating device may include a direct LED (i.e., without a phosphor). In an embodiment, the light generating device may include a laser device, such as a laser diode. In an embodiment, the light generating device may include a superluminescent diode. Thus, in a particular embodiment, the light source may be selected from the group consisting of laser diodes and superluminescent diodes. In other embodiments, the light source may include an LED.

[0026] The light source may be particularly configured to generate source light having an optical axis (O) (beam shape) and a spectral power distribution. In an embodiment, the source light may include one or more bands, the bandwidth of which is known as for a laser.

[0027] The term "light source" may (therefore) refer to such a light generating element, such as a solid-state light source, or may refer, for example, to a light generating element (such as a solid-state light source), and an encapsulation including one or more luminescent materials of elements, and (other) optical devices (such as lenses, collimators). The light conversion element ("conversion element" or "converter") may include a luminescent material containing elements. For example, a solid-state light source such as a blue LED is a light source. A combination of a solid-state light source (as a light generating element) and a light conversion element optically coupled to the solid-state light source (such as a blue LED and a light converter element) may also be a light source (but may also be denoted as a light generating device). Thus, a white LED is a light source (but may also be denoted, for example, as a (white) light generating device).

[0028] The term "light source" herein may also refer to a light source including a solid-state light source, such as an LED or a laser diode or a superluminescent diode.

[0029] Thus, in an embodiment, the term "light source" may also refer to (also) a light source based on light conversion, such as a light source combined with a luminescent conversion material. Thus, the term "light source" may also refer to a combination of an LED and a luminescent material configured to convert at least a portion of the LED radiation, or to a combination of a (diode) laser and a luminescent material configured to convert at least a portion of the (diode) laser radiation. In an embodiment, the term "light source" may also refer to a combination of a light source (such as an LED) and a filter, which may change the spectral power distribution of the light generated by the light source. In particular, the term "light generating device" may be used to describe a light source and other (optical elements), such as filters and / or beam shaping elements, etc.

[0030] In an embodiment, the phrase "different light sources" or "a plurality of different light sources" and similar phrases may refer to a plurality of solid-state light sources selected from at least two different bins. Similarly, in an embodiment, the phrase "same light sources" or "a plurality of same light sources" and similar phrases may refer to a plurality of solid-state light sources selected from the same bin.

[0031] The term "solid-state light source" or "solid-state material light source" and similar terms may particularly refer to semiconductor light sources, such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), laser diodes, or superluminescent diodes.

[0032] Here, in particular, both the first light generating device and the second light generating device include solid-state light sources. More particularly, in an embodiment, both the first light generating device and the second light generating device may include a (solid-state) light source configured to generate source light and a luminescent material configured to convert at least a portion of the source light into luminescent material light. However, the spectral power distributions of the first device light and the second device light may be different. Embodiments of the two light generating devices are described in more detail below.

[0033] In particular, the first light generating device may be configured to generate first device light having a primary first color point (x 2_1 、y 2_1 ) calculated using a 2° color matching function and a secondary first color point (x 10_1 、y 10_1 ) calculated using a CIE 1964 10° color matching function. As indicated above, it appears that the primary first color point (x 2_1 、y 2_1 ) and the secondary first color point (x 10_1 、y 10_1 ) may be substantially different, such as by a number of SDCMs.

[0034] Thus, in particular, according to ISO / CIE 11664-1:2019-06 Colorimetry – Part 1: CIE standard colorimetric observers, CIE 1931 (table 1, 2℃MF), CIE 1964 (table 2, 10°) and ISO / CIE 11664-5:2016-09-01 Colorimetry – Part 5: CIE 1976 L*u*v* color space and u’, v’ uniform chromaticity scale diagram (see, for example, 4.1), color points (e.g., the main first color point, the main second color point, the auxiliary first color point, and the auxiliary second color point u’, v’) are based on 2° or 10° color matching functions. The 2° color matching function can be defined as a numerical description of the color response of the CIE 1931 2° standard observer. The 10° color matching function can be defined as a numerical description of the color response of the CIE 1964 10° standard observer. The CIE 1931 2° and CIE 1963 10° color matching functions are also represented herein as “2℃MF” and “10℃MF”, respectively, and similar phrases, such as simply “2°” and “0°”.

[0035] In a particular embodiment, the first light generating device can include a first (solid state) light source and a first luminescent material, the first light source being configured to generate first light source light, and the first luminescent material being configured to convert at least a portion of the first light source light into first luminescent material light. In particular, the first light source can include a light emitting diode, but other (solid state) light source options are possible. Additionally, the term “first luminescent material” can refer to one or more (different) luminescent materials. Further, in particular, the first light source light can have a first dominant wavelength (λ d1 ) selected from the wavelength range of 440 nm - 470 nm. Thus, in an embodiment, the first light source can particularly have an intensity in the blue wavelength range and can provide blue light. The term “dominant wavelength” known in the art can refer to the wavelength of a monochromatic stimulus that, when additively mixed with a specified achromatic stimulus in an appropriate proportion, matches the color stimulus under consideration.

[0036] Moreover, in particular, the first device light can include at least a portion of the first light source light and at least a portion of the first luminescent material light. More specifically, the first device light can be white light or white-light-like, with a correlated color temperature (CCT1) selected from the range of 2700K - 10000K, more particularly 3000K - 8000K, such as greater than 3000K, e.g., at least about 3200K.

[0037] In particular, the second light generating device may be configured to generate second device light having a primary second color point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) calculated using the CIE 1931 2° color matching function and a secondary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function. As indicated above, the primary second color point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) and the secondary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) can be significantly different, such as several SDCM. In particular, this can apply to light generating devices including luminescent materials, where the luminescent materials are pumped with (solid-state) light source light in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm. The difference between the primary second color point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) and the secondary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) can be greater than the difference between the primary first color point (x 2_1 , y 2_1 ) and the secondary first color point (x 10_1 , y 10_1 ).

[0038] In a particular embodiment, the second light generating device may include a second (solid-state) light source configured to generate second light source light and a second luminescent material configured to convert at least a portion of the second light source light into second luminescent material light. In particular, the second light source may include a light emitting diode, but other (solid-state) light source options are possible. Additionally, the term "second luminescent material" may refer to one or more (different) luminescent materials.

[0039] In particular, the first luminescent material and the second luminescent material may be different luminescent materials, even though in a particular embodiment they may be at least partially based on the same type of luminescent material(s). Thus, the spectral power distributions of the first luminescent material light and the second luminescent material light may be different. Therefore, the spectral power distributions of the first luminescent material light and the second luminescent material light will not be the same.

[0040] In certain embodiments, the color or color point of the first type of light and the second type of light can be different when the corresponding color points of the first type of light and the second type of light differ by at least 0.01 for u' and / or at least 0.01 for v', and even more particularly by at least 0.02 for u' and / or at least 0.02 for v'. In a more particular embodiment, the corresponding color points of the first type of light and the second type of light can differ by at least 0.03 for u' and / or at least 0.03 for v'. Here, u' and v' are the color coordinates of the light in the CIE 1976 UCS (Uniform Chromaticity Scale) diagram. Spectral power distributions of different light sources with centroid wavelengths that differ by at least 10 nm (such as at least 20 nm, or even at least 30 nm) can be considered different spectral power distributions, e.g., different colors. Generally, the difference in centroid wavelengths will not be greater than about 400 nm, such as not exceeding 350 nm. The color points indicated by u' and v' particularly refer to the CIE 1976 color points (see ISO CIE 11664-5:2016-09-01 Colorimetry - Part 5: CIE 1976 L*u*v* color space and u',v' uniform chromaticity scale diagram).

[0041] The term "centroid wavelength" (also denoted as λc) is known in the art and refers to the wavelength value at which half of the light energy is at shorter wavelengths and half of the energy is at longer wavelengths; this value is expressed in nanometers (nm). It is the wavelength that divides the integral of the spectral power distribution into two equal parts, as in the formula λc = Σλ * I(λ) / (ΣI(λ)), where the sum is over the wavelength range of interest, and I(λ) is the spectral energy density (i.e., the integral of the product of wavelength and intensity over the emission band, normalized to the integral intensity). The centroid wavelength can be determined, for example, under operating conditions.

[0042] In addition, particularly, the second light source light can have a second dominant wavelength (λ d2 ) selected from the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm. Thus, in an embodiment, the second light source can particularly have an intensity in a wavelength range similar to cyan-blue, and can provide light similar to cyan-blue. Here, the terms "light similar to cyan-blue" and "similar to cyan-blue" can particularly refer to light having one or more wavelengths in the range of 470 nm - 520 nm, particularly light having spectral power at one or more wavelengths in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm.

[0043] Thus, the spectral power distributions of the first source light and the second source light will be different and may, for example, only partially overlap (or even not overlap at all). In a particular embodiment, the peak wavelengths of the first source light and the second source light may be substantially different, such as differing by at least 5 nm, more particularly at least 10 nm. Thus, in an embodiment, |(λ d1 -λ d2 )| ≥ 10 nm, such as greater than 10 nm. In particular, in an embodiment, 10 nm ≤ |(λ d1 -λ d2 )| ≤ 60 nm, more particularly, 15 nm ≤ |(λ d1 -λ d2 )| ≤ 50 nm, such as 20 nm ≤ |(λ d1 -λ d2 )| ≤ 40 nm. From the foregoing, it is clear that, in particular, λ d1 < λ d2 .

[0044] In particular, the second device light may include at least a portion of the second source light and at least a portion of the second luminescent material light. More specifically, the second device light may be white light or near-white light, the correlated color temperature (CCT2) of which is selected from the range of 2700 K - 10000 K, more particularly 3000 K - 8000 K, such as greater than 3000 K, such as at least about 3200 K.

[0045] As will be elucidated below, in particular, the first device light and the second device light may have substantially the same correlated color temperature. However, the spectral power distributions of the first device light and the second device light may not completely overlap. In an embodiment, |(CCT1 - CCT2)| ≤ 1000 K, such as |(CCT1 - CCT2)| ≤ 500 K.

[0046] In a particular embodiment, with respect to the total spectral power distribution within the visible wavelength range (of the respective device light), one of the first device light and the second device light may have a relatively higher contribution in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm than the other of the first device light or the second device light. As described above, in particular, herein, the second device light is also referred to herein as "quasi-cyan-rich" or "quasi-cyan-rich device light".

[0047] In particular, herein, with respect to the total spectral power distribution within the visible wavelength range (of the second device light), the second device light may have a relatively higher contribution in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm than the first device light. In an embodiment, this may be particularly due to the cyan-shifted emission of the second source.

[0048] As indicated above, by the selections defined herein, pump light sources that are similar non-cyan-rich and cyan-rich can be used to provide white light, which can also be perceived as white light and has fewer undesirable color effects compared to selecting prior art solutions. Basically, a number of measures are taken: the 2° color points should not be too far apart from each other, and the 10° color point of the sum of the first device light and the second device light should also not be too far from the BBL, even if the individual 10° color points can (but do not necessarily) be relatively far from the BBL. Additionally, in embodiments, the color points of the first device light and the second device light, more specifically the combined first device light and second device light, should desirably be selected to be within a specific CCT range.

[0049] Thus, in a particular embodiment, the difference between the main first color point (x 2_1 , y 2_1 ) and the main second color point (x 2_2 , y 2_2 ) can be within 10 SDCM, more particularly within about 6 SDCM. Additionally, in a particular embodiment, the combined light including the combination of the first device light and the second device light can include: (i) the auxiliary color point (x 10_sum , y 10_sum ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function can be configured to be within 10 SDCM from the blackbody locus, more particularly within 6 SDCM, and (ii) the correlated color temperature (T cc ) of the combined light can be selected from the range of 2700K - 10000K, more particularly 3000K - 8000K. In a particular embodiment, the combined 10° color point can be above, below, or on the BBL, particularly, in embodiments, below the BBL. The term "combined light correlated color temperature" particularly refers to the correlated color temperature of the combined light (i.e., the combination of the first device light and the second device light).

[0050] Some additional embodiments will be described below.

[0051] As indicated above, the first device light can be based on a blue pump light source, and the second device light can be based on a cyan-rich pump light source. The device light generated with the latter light source can be enriched in the 470 nm - 500 nm region relative to the device light generated with the former light source.

[0052] In particular, the first light generation device (110) can be configured to generate first device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm. At least 80% of the spectral power of the first device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm can be in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 470 nm. The second light generation device can be configured to generate second device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm. At least 80% of the spectral power of the second device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm can be in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm. Such that, relative to the total spectral power distribution in the visible light wavelength range, one of the first device light and the second device light has a relatively higher contribution in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm than the other of the first device light and the second device light.

[0053] The first light generation device can be configured to generate first device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm, and at least 60%, more particularly at least 70%, and even more particularly at least 80% of the spectral power of the first device light is in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 470 nm. For example, in an embodiment, at least 80% of the spectral power of the first device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm can be in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 470 nm.

[0054] As can be derived herein, in an embodiment, approximately at least 70%, more particularly at least approximately 80%, such as at least approximately 85% of the spectral power of the first (solid-state) light source light in the wavelength range of 380 nm - 780 nm can be in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 470 nm.

[0055] Furthermore, in an embodiment, the second light generation device can be configured to generate second device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm, and at least 60%, more particularly at least 70%, and even more particularly at least 80% of the spectral power of the second device light is in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm. For example, in an embodiment, at least 80% of the spectral power of the second device light in the wavelength range of 440 nm - 500 nm can be in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm.

[0056] As can be derived herein, in an embodiment, approximately at least 70%, more particularly at least approximately 80%, such as at least approximately 85% of the spectral power of the second (solid-state) light source light in the wavelength range of 380 nm - 780 nm can be in the wavelength range of 470 nm - 500 nm. As indicated above, in an embodiment, |(λ d1 -λ d2 )|≥10 nm, such as greater than 10 nm.

[0057] The auxiliary first color point (x 10_1 , y 10_1 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function can be located above the blackbody locus, where the auxiliary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function can be below the blackbody locus, and where the auxiliary color point (x 10_sum , y 10_sum ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function can be configured within 6 SDCM of the blackbody locus.

[0058] As indicated above, the 10° color point of the sum of the first device light and the second device light should not be too far from the BBL, even though the individual 10° color points can (but do not have to) be relatively far from the BBL. In an embodiment, the difference between the auxiliary first color point (x 10_1 , y 10_1 ) and the auxiliary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) can be at least 3 SDCM, such as at least 5 SDCM. In a particular embodiment, the difference between the auxiliary first color point (x 10_1 , y 10_1 ) and the auxiliary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) can be selected from the range of 3 - 50 SDCM, such as 5 - 40 SDCM. Additionally, particularly in an embodiment, the auxiliary first color point (x 10_1 , y 10_1 ) and the auxiliary second color point (x 10_2 , y 10_2 ) are each configured within 25 SDCM, such as within 20 SDCM of the blackbody locus.

[0059] As indicated above, the correlated color temperature (T cc ) of the combined light can be selected from the range of 3000K - 8000K. In a particular embodiment, the correlated color temperature (T cc ) of the combined light can be selected from the range of 3000K - 6500K. In a particular embodiment, the correlated color temperature (T cc ) of the combined light can be selected from the range of 3000K - 5000K.

[0060] As indicated above, each of the first light generating device and the second light generating device can include one or more luminescent materials. Below, some general aspects related to luminescent materials are first described.

[0061] The term "luminescent material" particularly refers to a material that can convert one or more of a first radiation, particularly UV radiation and blue radiation, into a second radiation. Generally, the first radiation and the second radiation have different spectral power distributions. Thus, in addition to the term "luminescent material", the terms "luminescent converter" or "converter" can also be applied. Generally, the second radiation has a spectral power distribution at a larger wavelength than the first radiation, which is the so-called down-conversion case. However, in a specific embodiment, the spectral power distribution of the second radiation has an intensity at a smaller wavelength than the first radiation, which is the so-called up-conversion case.

[0062] In an embodiment, the "luminescent material" can particularly refer to a material that can convert radiation into, for example, visible light and / or infrared light. For example, in an embodiment, the luminescent material can be capable of converting one or more of UV radiation and blue radiation into visible light. In a specific embodiment, the luminescent material can also convert radiation into infrared radiation (IR). Thus, when excited by radiation, the luminescent material emits radiation. Generally, the luminescent material will be a down-converter, i.e., radiation of a smaller wavelength is converted into radiation of a larger wavelength (λ ex <λ em ), although in a specific embodiment, the luminescent material can include an up-converting luminescent material, i.e., radiation of a larger wavelength is converted into radiation of a smaller wavelength (λ ex >λ em ).

[0063] In an embodiment, the term "luminescence" can refer to phosphorescence. In an embodiment, the term "luminescence" can also refer to fluorescence. In addition to the term "luminescence", the term "emission" can also be used. Thus, the terms "first radiation" and "second radiation" can respectively refer to excitation radiation and emission (radiation). Similarly, in an embodiment, the term "luminescent material" can refer to phosphorescence and / or fluorescence.

[0064] The term "luminescent material" can also refer to a plurality of different luminescent materials. Examples of possible luminescent materials are given below. Thus, in a specific embodiment, the term "luminescent material" can also refer to a luminescent material composition. Instead of the term "luminescent material", the term "phosphor" can also be used. These terms are known to those skilled in the art.

[0065] In an embodiment, the luminescent material is selected from garnets and nitrides, particularly garnets and nitrides doped with trivalent cerium or divalent europium, respectively. The term "nitride" can also refer to nitroxides or nitrosilicates, etc. Alternatively or additionally, the (multiple) luminescent materials can be selected from silicates, particularly silicates doped with divalent europium.

[0066] In a specific embodiment, the luminescent material includes A3B5O 12: Luminescent materials of the Ce type, where A includes, in embodiments, one or more of Y, La, Gd, Tb, and Lu, particularly (at least) one or more of Y, Gd, terbium, and Lu, and where B includes, in embodiments, one or more of Al, Ga, In, and Sc. In particular, A may include one or more of Y, Gd, and Lu, such as particularly one or more of Y and Lu. In particular, B may include one or more of Al and Ga, more particularly at least Al, such as substantially entirely Al. Thus, particularly suitable luminescent materials are cerium-containing garnet materials. Embodiments of the garnet particularly include A3B5O 12 garnets, where A includes at least yttrium or lutetium, and where B includes at least aluminum. Such garnets may be doped with cerium (Ce), praseodymium (Pr), or a combination of cerium and praseodymium; however, particularly doped with Ce. In particular, B may include aluminum (Al); however, in addition to aluminum, B may also partially include gallium (Ga) and / or scandium (Sc) and / or indium (In), particularly up to about 20% of B, more particularly up to about 10% of B (i.e., B ions substantially include 90 or more mole % of Al, and one or more of Ga, Sc, and In at 10 or less mole %); B may particularly include up to about 10% gallium. In another variant, B and O may be at least partially replaced by Si and N. Element A may particularly be selected from the group consisting of yttrium (Y), gadolinium (Gd), terbium (Tb), and lutetium (Lu). Additionally, Gd and / or Tb particularly only exist in an amount up to about 20% of A. In a particular embodiment, the garnet luminescent material includes (Y 1-x Lu x )3B5O 12 :Ce, where x is equal to or greater than 0 and equal to or less than 1. The term ":Ce" indicates that some of the metal ions in the luminescent material (i.e., some of the "A" ions in the garnet) are replaced by Ce. For example, in the case of (Y 1-x Lu x )3Al5O 12 :Ce, some of Y and / or Lu are replaced by Ce. This is known to those skilled in the art. Ce generally replaces no more than 10% of A; typically, the Ce concentration will be in the range of 0.1% to 4%, particularly 0.1% to 2% (relative to A). Assuming 1% Ce and 10% Y, a completely correct molecule could be (Y 0.1 Lu 0.89 Ce 0.01 )3Al5O 12 . Ce in the garnet is substantially or only in the trivalent state, as known to those skilled in the art.

[0067] In embodiments, the luminescent material (therefore) includes A3B5O 12, where in certain embodiments up to 10% of B-O can be replaced by Si-N.

[0068] In certain embodiments, the luminescent material comprises (Y x1 A’ x2 Ce x3 )3(Al y1 B’ y2 )5O 12 , where x1 + x2 + x3 = 1, where x3 > 0, where 0 < x2 + x3 ≤ 0.2, where y1 + y2 = 1, where in particular, 0 ≤ y2 ≤ 0.2, where A’ comprises one or more elements selected from the group consisting of lanthanide elements, and where B’ comprises one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ga, In, and Sc. In an embodiment, x3 is selected from the range of 0.001 - 0.1. In the present invention, in particular, x1 > 0, such as > 0.2, e.g., at least 0.8. Garnets having Y can provide a suitable spectral power distribution.

[0069] In certain embodiments, up to 10% of B-O can be replaced by Si-N. Here, B in B-O refers to one or more of Al, Ga, In, and Sc (and O refers to oxygen); in certain embodiments, B-O can refer to Al-O. As indicated previously, in certain embodiments, x3 can be selected from the range of 0.001 to 0.04. In particular, such a luminescent material can have a suitable spectral distribution (see below), have a relatively high efficiency, have a relatively high thermal stability, and allow for a high CRI (optionally in combination with the light of other light sources described herein). Thus, in certain embodiments, A can be selected from the group consisting of Lu and Gd. Alternatively or additionally, B can include Ga. Thus, in an embodiment, the luminescent material comprises (Y x1 (Lu,Gd) x2 Ce x3 )3(Al y1 Ga y2 )5O 12 , where Lu and / or Gd are available. More specifically, x3 is selected from the range of 0.001 - 0.1, where 0 < x2 + x3 ≤ 0.1, and where 0 ≤ y2 ≤ 0.1. Further, in certain embodiments, up to 1% of B-O can be replaced by Si-N. Here, the percentage refers to the number of moles (as known in the art); see, for example, EP3149108. In another certain embodiment, the luminescent material comprises (Y x1 Ce x3 )3Al5O 12 , where x1 + x3 = 1, and where 0 < x3 ≤ 0.2, such as 0.001 - 0.1.

[0070] In a particular embodiment, the light generating device may include only a luminescent material selected from the cerium-containing garnet type. In another particular embodiment, the light generating device includes a single type of luminescent material, such as (Y x1 A’ x2 Ce x3 )3(Al y1 B’ y2 )5O 12 . Thus, in a particular embodiment, the light generating device includes a luminescent material, wherein at least 85 wt%, even more particularly at least about 90 wt%, such as even more particularly at least about 95 wt% of the luminescent material comprises (Y x1 A’ x2 Ce x3 )3(Al y1 B’ y2 )5O 12 . Here, A’ includes one or more elements selected from the group consisting of lanthanide elements, and B’ includes one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ga, In, and Sc, where x1 + x2 + x3 = 1, where x3 > 0, where 0 < x2 + x3 ≤ 0.2, where y1 + y2 = 1, where 0 ≤ y2 ≤ 0.2. In particular, x3 is selected from the range of 0.001 - 0.1. Note that in an embodiment, x2 = 0. Alternatively or additionally, in an embodiment, y2 = 0. In other embodiments, the light generating device may include one or more luminescent materials, wherein at least one luminescent material is selected from the cerium-containing garnet type.

[0071] In a particular embodiment, A may particularly include at least Y, and B may particularly include at least Al.

[0072] Alternatively or additionally, the luminescent material may include a luminescent material of the A3Si6N 11 :Ce 3+ type, wherein A includes one or more of Y, La, Gd, Tb, and Lu, such as in an embodiment, including one or more of La and Y.

[0073] In an embodiment, the luminescent material may alternatively or additionally include MS:Eu 2+ and / or M2Si5N8:Eu 2+ and / or MAlSiN3:Eu 2+ and / or Ca2AlSi3O2N5:Eu 2+one or more of the like, wherein M includes one or more of Ba, Sr, and Ca. In particular, in embodiments, it includes at least Sr. Thus, in embodiments, the phosphor may include one or more materials selected from the group consisting of (Ba,Sr,Ca)S:Eu, (Ba,Sr,Ca)AlSiN3:Eu, and (Ba,Sr,Ca)2Si5N8:Eu. In these compounds, europium (Eu) is substantially or only divalent and replaces one or more of the indicated divalent cations. Generally, the content of Eu does not exceed 10% of the cations; relative to the (multiple) cations it replaces, its presence will particularly be in the range of about 0.5% to 10%, more particularly in the range of about 0.5% to 5%. The term ":Eu" indicates that some of the metal ions are replaced by Eu (Eu in these examples). 2+ ). For example, assuming 2% Eu in CaAlSiN3:Eu, the correct chemical formula may be (Ca 0.98 Eu 0.02 )AlSiN3. Divalent europium typically replaces divalent cations such as the above divalent alkaline earth cations, particularly Ca, Sr, or Ba. The material (Ba,Sr,Ca)S:Eu may also be denoted as MS:Eu, where M is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of barium (Ba), strontium (Sr), and calcium (Ca); in particular, M includes calcium, or strontium, or calcium and strontium in this compound, more particularly calcium. Here, Eu is introduced and replaces at least a part of M (i.e., one or more of Ba, Sr, and Ca). In addition, the material (Ba,Sr,Ca)2Si5N8:Eu may also be denoted as M2Si5N8:Eu, where M is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of barium (Ba), strontium (Sr), and calcium (Ca); in particular, M includes Sr and / or Ba in this compound. In another specific embodiment, M includes Sr and / or Ba (regardless of the presence of Eu), particularly 50% to 100%, more particularly 50% to 90% of Ba, and 50% to 0%, particularly 50% to 10% of Sr, such as Ba 1.5 Sr 0.5Si5N8:Eu (i.e., 75% Ba; 25% Sr). Here, Eu is introduced and replaces at least a portion of M, i.e., one or more of Ba, Sr, and Ca. Similarly, the material (Ba,Sr,Ca)AlSiN3:Eu can also be denoted as MAlSiN3:Eu, where M is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of barium (Ba), strontium (Sr), and calcium (Ca); in particular, M includes calcium, or strontium, or calcium and strontium in this compound, and more particularly calcium. Here, Eu is introduced and replaces at least a portion of M (i.e., one or more of Ba, Sr, and Ca). As is known to those skilled in the art, Eu in the above luminescent materials is substantially or only in the divalent state.

[0074] In embodiments, the red luminescent material can include one or more materials selected from the group consisting of (Ba,Sr,Ca)S:Eu, (Ba,Sr,Ca)AlSiN3:Eu, and (Ba,Sr,Ca)2Si5N8:Eu. In these compounds, europium (Eu) is substantially or only divalent and replaces one or more of the indicated divalent cations. Generally, the content of Eu does not exceed 10% of the cations; relative to the (multiple) cations it replaces, its presence will particularly be in the range of about 0.5% to 10%, and more particularly in the range of about 0.5% to 5%. The term ":Eu" indicates that some of the metal ions are replaced by Eu (Eu in these examples). 2+ ) For example, assuming 2% Eu in CaAlSiN3:Eu, the correct chemical formula can be (Ca 0.98 Eu 0.02 )AlSiN3. Divalent europium typically replaces divalent cations, such as the above divalent alkaline earth cations, particularly Ca, Sr, or Ba.

[0075] The material (Ba,Sr,Ca)S:Eu can also be denoted as MS:Eu, where M is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of barium (Ba), strontium (Sr), and calcium (Ca); in particular, M includes calcium, or strontium, or calcium and strontium in this compound, and more particularly calcium. Here, Eu is introduced and replaces at least a portion of M (i.e., one or more of Ba, Sr, and Ca).

[0076] In addition, the material (Ba,Sr,Ca)2Si5N8:Eu can also be designated as M2Si5N8:Eu, where M is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of barium (Ba), strontium (Sr), and calcium (Ca); in particular, M in this compound includes Sr and / or Ba. In another specific embodiment, M includes Sr and / or Ba (regardless of the presence of Eu), particularly 50% to 100%, more particularly 50% to 90% Ba, and 50% to 0%, particularly 50% to 10% Sr, such as Ba 1.5 Sr 0.5 Si5N8:Eu (i.e., 75% Ba; 25% Sr). Here, Eu is introduced and replaces at least a part of M, i.e., one or more of Ba, Sr, and Ca.

[0077] Similarly, the material (Ba,Sr,Ca)AlSiN3:Eu can also be designated as MAlSiN3:Eu, where M is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of barium (Ba), strontium (Sr), and calcium (Ca); in particular, M in this compound includes calcium, or strontium, or calcium and strontium, more particularly calcium. Here, Eu is introduced and replaces at least a part of M (i.e., one or more of Ba, Sr, and Ca).

[0078] As is known to those skilled in the art, Eu in the above luminescent materials is substantially or only in the divalent state.

[0079] The blue luminescent material can include YSO (Y2SiO5:Ce 3+ ) or a similar compound, or BAM (BaMgAl 10 O 17 :Eu 2+ ) or a similar compound.

[0080] The term "luminescent material" herein particularly relates to inorganic luminescent materials.

[0081] Alternatively or additionally, other luminescent materials can also be applied. For example, quantum dots and / or organic dyes can be applied, and they can optionally be embedded in a transmissive matrix, such as a polymer, such as PMMA, or polysiloxane, etc.

[0082] Quantum dots are small crystals of semiconductor materials, typically only a few nanometers in width or diameter. When excited by incident light, the color of the light emitted by quantum dots is determined by the size and material of the crystals. Thus, light of a specific color can be generated by adjusting the size of the dots. Most known quantum dots emitting in the visible light range are based on cadmium selenide (CdSe), with shells such as cadmium sulfide (CdS) and zinc sulfide (ZnS). Cadmium-free quantum dots such as indium phosphide (InP), copper indium sulfide (CuInS2), and / or silver indium sulfide (AgInS2) can also be used. Quantum dots exhibit a very narrow emission band, and thus they exhibit saturated colors. Additionally, by adjusting the size of the quantum dots, the emission color can be easily tuned. Any type of quantum dot known in the art can be used in the present invention. However, for reasons of environmental safety and concern, cadmium-free quantum dots or at least quantum dots with a very low cadmium content are preferably used.

[0083] Instead of or in addition to quantum dots, other quantum confinement structures can be used. In the context of the present application, the term "quantum confinement structure" should be understood to include, for example, quantum wells, quantum dots, quantum rods, tripods, tetrapods, or nanowires, etc.

[0084] Organic phosphors can also be used. Examples of suitable organic phosphor materials are organic light-emitting materials based on perylene derivatives, such as the compounds sold by BASF under the name. Examples of suitable compounds include, but are not limited to Red F305, Orange F240, Yellow F083, and F170.

[0085] Different luminescent materials can have different spectral power distributions of the light of the corresponding luminescent materials. Alternatively or additionally, such different luminescent materials can particularly have different color points (or dominant wavelengths).

[0086] As mentioned above, other luminescent materials are also possible. Thus, in a specific embodiment, the luminescent material is selected from the group consisting of europium(II)-containing nitrides, europium(II)-containing oxynitrides, europium(II)-containing silicates, cerium-containing garnets, and quantum structures. Quantum structures can include, for example, quantum dots or quantum rods (or other quantum-type particles) (see above). Quantum structures can also include quantum wells. Quantum structures can also include photonic crystals.

[0087] In particular, the first luminescent material can include a broadband emitter having spectral power in the green-yellow wavelength range. The phrase "in the green-yellow wavelength range" and similar phrases can indicate the spectral power of one or more wavelengths in the green wavelength range and / or the spectral power of one or more wavelengths in the yellow wavelength range (see also below).

[0088] The term "violet light" or "violet emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 380 nm - 440 nm. In certain embodiments, the violet light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 380 nm - 440 nm. The term "blue light" or "blue emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 440 nm - 490 nm (including some violet and cyan hues). In certain embodiments, the blue light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 440 nm - 490 nm. The term "green light" or "green emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 490 nm - 560 nm. In certain embodiments, the green light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 490 nm - 560 nm. The term "yellow light" or "yellow emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 560 nm - 590 nm. In certain embodiments, the yellow light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 560 nm - 590 nm. The term "orange light" or "orange emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 590 nm - 620 nm. In certain embodiments, the orange light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 590 nm - 620 nm. The term "red light" or "red emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 620 nm - 750 nm. In certain embodiments, the red light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 620 nm - 750 nm. The term "cyan light" or "cyan emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 490 nm - 520 nm. In certain embodiments, the cyan light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 490 nm - 520 nm. The term "amber light" or "amber emission" and similar terms can particularly refer to light having a wavelength in the range of about 585 nm - 605 nm, such as about 590 nm - 600 nm. In certain embodiments, the amber light can have a centroid wavelength in the range of 585 nm - 605 nm. The phrase "light having one or more wavelengths within a wavelength range" and similar phrases can particularly indicate that the indicated light (or radiation) has a spectral power distribution that has intensity at least at these wavelengths within the indicated wavelength range. For example, a solid-state light source that emits blue light will have a spectral power distribution that has intensity at one or more wavelengths within the 440 nm - 495 nm wavelength range.

[0089] The green-yellow wavelength range is defined as the wavelength range of 490 nm - 590 nm. Note that in some embodiments, a luminescent material that provides luminescent material light with spectral power in the green-yellow wavelength range may have spectral power only within this 490 nm - 590 nm wavelength range (within the 380 nm - 780 wavelength range), but in other embodiments, it may also have spectral power at other wavelengths outside the 490 - 590 nm wavelength range within the 380 nm - 780 wavelength range.

[0090] Here, a luminescent material with spectral power in the 490 nm - 590 nm wavelength range may particularly not have spectral power only within the 490 nm - 520 nm wavelength range, but particularly, at least a major part of its spectral power is outside the 490 nm - 520 nm wavelength range. For example, more than 60% of the spectral power within the 490 nm - 590 nm wavelength range may be within the 520 nm - 590 nm wavelength range.

[0091] A broadband emission luminescent material can be selected such that the emission band has a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of at least about 40 nm (of the luminescent material light), such as at least 50 nm. For example, a luminescent material can be selected to obtain an emission band with a FWHM of at least 60 nm. For example, a cerium(III)-containing garnet luminescent material (as described herein) can be such a case. Thus, particularly, the luminescent material can include a broadband emitter. The luminescent material can also include multiple broadband emitters. Particularly, when two or more luminescent materials are applied to convert at least a part of the first device light and / or at least a part of the second device light, at least two of the two or more luminescent materials can be configured to provide corresponding luminescent material light, and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the emission band of each luminescent material light is at least 40 nm, such as at least 50 nm, and in embodiments, at least 60 nm.

[0092] A narrowband emission luminescent material can exhibit (upon excitation) an emission band with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of less than about 50 nm (such as at most about 40 nm) of the luminescent material light. Particularly, at room temperature, the emission band can have a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of less than about 50 nm (such as at most about 40 nm, and in embodiments at most about 35 nm) of the luminescent material light, but (narrower) line emission is also possible.

[0093] For example, the FWHM of a broadband emission luminescent material at room temperature can be greater than 45 nm, while the FWHM of a narrowband emission luminescent material at room temperature can be at most 40 nm.

[0094] Alternatively or (particularly) additionally, the first luminescent material can include a broadband emitter that has spectral power within the orange-red wavelength range.

[0095] The phrase "in the orange-red wavelength range" and similar phrases can indicate spectral power at one or more wavelengths within the orange wavelength range and / or spectral power at one or more wavelengths within the red wavelength range. The orange-red wavelength range is defined as the 590 nm - 750 nm wavelength range. Note that a luminescent material providing luminescent material light with spectral power in the orange-red wavelength range may have spectral power only within the 590 nm - 750 nm wavelength range (within the 380 nm - 780 nm wavelength range) in embodiments, but in other embodiments, may also have spectral power at other wavelengths outside the 590 nm - 750 nm wavelength range within the 380 nm - 780 cm wavelength range.

[0096] Similarly, the second luminescent material may include one or more of a broadband emitter having spectral power in the green-yellow wavelength range and a broadband emitter having spectral power in the orange-red wavelength range.

[0097] Additionally or alternatively, more particularly, additionally, the first luminescent material may (further) include a narrowband emitter having spectral power in the red wavelength range. Further, additionally or alternatively, more particularly, additionally, the second luminescent material may (further) include a narrowband emitter having spectral power in the red wavelength range.

[0098] In certain embodiments, the first luminescent material may include two or more different luminescent materials, and / or the second luminescent material may include two or more different luminescent materials. Above, several examples of luminescent materials have been described. For example, for a broadband green-yellow emitter, one or more cerium-containing garnets may be selected. For an (additional) broadband orange-red emitter, one or more europium(II)-containing nitrides may be selected.

[0099] In certain embodiments, both the first luminescent material and the second luminescent material may include luminescent materials selected from: (a) A3B5O 12 :Ce type, where A may include one or more of Y, La, Gd, Tb, and Lu, and B may include one or more of Al, Ga, In, and Sc, which emits light having spectral power at one or more wavelengths within the green-yellow wavelength range, and (b) a luminescent material including divalent europium, which emits light having spectral power at one or more wavelengths within the orange-red wavelength range. The spectral power distribution of the luminescent material light of the garnet of the first light generating device and the second light generating device may be different (see also above). Alternatively or additionally, the spectral power distribution of the luminescent material light of the orange-red luminescent material of the first light generating device and the second light generating device may also be different; however, in other embodiments, they may also be substantially the same.

[0100] In particular, the light generation system can be configured to generate system light. During operation, the system light can be emitted from the light generation system. In an embodiment, the system light can include combined light. In a particular embodiment, the system light can consist essentially of combined light. However, in other embodiments (see also below), the contribution of one or more other light sources can also be included in the system light.

[0101] In an embodiment, the contributions of the first device light and the second device light to the system light can be controlled. In this way, the MDER value of the system light can be controlled. For this purpose, in an embodiment, a control system can be applied (see also below).

[0102] In an embodiment, the light generation system can include an LED package. In particular, the LED package can include a first reflector, a first light generation device, and a second light generation device. Additionally, in particular, the first reflector can be configured to reflect at least a portion of the first device light and the second device light. In an embodiment, the first reflector can be configured to beam-shape the combined light.

[0103] In an (alternative) embodiment, the light generation system can include a first LED package and a second LED package. The first LED package can include a first reflector and a first light generation device. The first reflector can be configured to reflect at least a portion of the first device light. The second LED package can include a second reflector and a second light generation device. The second reflector can be configured to reflect at least a portion of the second device light. In particular, the first reflector can be configured to beam-shape the first device light, and / or the second reflector can be configured to beam-shape the second device light.

[0104] The first light generation device and the second light generation device can in particular be configured to provide combined light. The combined light can have a (combined) correlated color temperature of at least about 3000K. However, it may also be desirable to provide combined light with a relatively high CCT and another device light with a relatively low CCT from another device. In this way, the CCT and / or the MDER value of the system light can be further controlled. For this purpose, in an embodiment, a control system can be applied (see also below).

[0105] Furthermore, in an embodiment, the light generation system can include (i) a first LED string including one or more first light generation devices, and (ii) a second LED string including one or more second light generation devices. In an embodiment, the control system can be configured to individually control the first string and the second string.

[0106] Thus, in a particular embodiment, the light generation system can further include a third light generation device configured to generate a third device light. In particular, the third device light can be a third correlated color temperature T c3White light. In certain embodiments, 1800K ≤ T c3 ≤ (T cc - 1000K). For example, in an embodiment, 1800K ≤ T c3 ≤ (T cc - 1500K). More particularly, 1800K ≤ T c3 ≤ 3000K. For example, 2000K ≤ T c3 ≤ 3000K, and in other embodiments, 1800K ≤ T c3 ≤ 2700K. However, in an embodiment, the third device light may have a color rendering index of at least 75 (such as at least about 80).

[0107] In an embodiment, |(CCT1 - CCT3)| ≥ 1000K, such as |(CCT1 - CCT3)| ≥ 1500K and / or |(CCT2 - CCT3)| ≥ 1000K, such as |(CCT2 - CCT3)| ≥ 1500K.

[0108] Particularly, the third light generating device may be configured to generate third device light having a primary third color point (x 2_3 , y 2_3 ) calculated using the CIE 1931 2° color matching function and a secondary third color point (x 10_3 , y 10_3 ) calculated using the CIE 1964 10° color matching function. The primary third color point (x 2_3 , y 2_3 ) and the secondary third color point (x 10_3 , y 10_3 ) may be different, such as differing by up to several SDCMs (or even more).

[0109] In certain embodiments, the third light generating device may include a third (solid - state) light source configured to generate third light source light and a third luminescent material configured to convert at least a portion of the third light source light into third luminescent material light. Particularly, the third light source may include a light - emitting diode, but other (solid - state) light source options are possible. Additionally, the term "third luminescent material" may refer to one or more (different) luminescent materials.

[0110] Particularly, the first luminescent material, the second luminescent material, and the third luminescent material may be different luminescent materials, even though in certain embodiments they may be at least partially based on the same type of luminescent material. Thus, the spectral power distributions of the first luminescent material light, the second luminescent material light, and the third luminescent material light may be different from each other. Thus, the spectral power distributions of the first luminescent material light, the second luminescent material light, and the third luminescent material light will not be the same.

[0111] The spectral power distribution of the light from the third light source may be different from the spectral power distribution of the light from the first light source and / or the spectral power distribution of the light from the second light source. However, in other embodiments, the spectral power distribution of the light from the third light source and the spectral power distribution of the light from the first light source may be substantially the same. The light from the third light source may have a third dominant wavelength λ d3 . In an embodiment, |(λ d3 - λ d2 )| ≥ 10 nm, such as |(λ d3 - λ d2 )| ≥ 15 nm. In (other) embodiments, |(λ d3 - λ d1 )| ≤ 15 nm, and more particularly |(λ d3 - λ d1 )| ≤ 10 nm, although other embodiments are possible.

[0112] As indicated above, the light generation system may be configured to generate system light. In particular, in an embodiment, the system light may include one or more of the combined light and the third device light. In a particular embodiment, the system light may consist of the combined light and the third device light.

[0113] The light generation system may further include a control system configured to control the system light. In an embodiment, the control system may be controlled according to one or more of an input signal of a user interface, a sensor signal (of a sensor), and a timer (see also below). The control system may be configured to control the spectral power distribution of the system light, such as controlling the relative contributions of the combined light and the third device light. In other embodiments, the control system (may also) be configured to control the spectral power distribution of the combined light, such as controlling the relative contributions of the first device light and the second light.

[0114] In addition, in an embodiment, the light generation system may include (i) a first LED string including one or more first light generation devices and one or more second light generation devices, and (ii) a second LED string including one or more third light generation devices. In an embodiment, the control system may be configured to individually control the first string and the second string. In this way, the CCT of the system light can be controlled. In addition, in other embodiments, the light generation system may include (i) a first LED string including one or more first light generation devices, (ii) a second LED string including one or more second light generation devices, and (iii) a third LED string including one or more third light generation devices. In an embodiment, the control system may be configured to individually control the first string, the second string, and the third string. In this way, the MDER and / or CCT of the system light can be controlled.

[0115] In (other) embodiments, the system may include an LED package. The LED package may include a reflector, a first light generating device, a second light generating device, and a third light generating device. The reflector may be configured to reflect at least a portion of the first device light, the second device light, and the third device light. The reflector may be configured to beam shape the system light.

[0116] In other embodiments, the system may include a first LED package. The first LED package may include a first reflector and a first light generating device. The first reflector may be configured to reflect at least a portion of the first device light. Additionally, the system may include a second LED package. The second LED package may include a second reflector and a second light generating device. The second reflector may be configured to reflect at least a portion of the second device light. Additionally, the system may include a third LED package. The third LED package may include a third reflector and a third light generating device. The third reflector may be configured to reflect at least a portion of the third device light. The first reflector may be configured to beam shape the first device light. The second reflector may be configured to beam shape the second device light. The third reflector may be configured to beam shape the third device light.

[0117] In certain embodiments, the light generating system may further include an input device selected from the group consisting of a user interface, a time device, and a sensor. In particular, the control system may be configured to control the spectral power distribution of the system light in response to a signal from the input device.

[0118] In certain embodiments, in an operating mode of the light generating system, the CRI of the system light is at least 70, such as at least 80, optionally, the R9 value of the system light is at least 0, more particularly at least 50, and the MDER value of the system light is selected from the range of at least 0.3, more particularly at least 0.45.

[0119] The light generating system may be part of or applicable to, for example: an office lighting system, a home application system, a store lighting system, a household lighting system, an accent lighting system, a spotlight system, a theater lighting system, an optical fiber application system, a projection system, a self-luminous display system, a pixelated display system, a segmented display system, a warning sign system, a medical lighting application system, an indicator sign system, a decorative lighting system, a portable system, an automotive application, an (outdoor) road lighting system, a city lighting system, a greenhouse lighting system, horticultural lighting, digital projection, or an LCD backlight. The light generating system (or luminaire) may be part of or applicable to, for example, an optical communication system or a disinfection system.

[0120] The terms "white light" and similar terms in this document are known to those skilled in the art. It can particularly refer to light having a correlated color temperature (CCT) between approximately 1800K and 20000K, such as 2000K to 20000K, particularly 2700K - 20000K, for general lighting, particularly in the range of approximately 2000K - 7000K, such as in the range of 2700K to 6500K. In an embodiment, for example, for backlighting purposes or other purposes, the correlated color temperature (CCT) can particularly be in the range of approximately 7000K to 20000K. Additionally, in an embodiment, the correlated color temperature (CCT) and the BBL (black body locus) are particularly within approximately 15 SDCM, particularly within approximately 10 SDCM from the BBL, and even more particularly within approximately 5 SDCM from the BBL.

[0121] The terms "visible", "visible light", or "visible emission" and similar terms refer to light having one or more wavelengths in the range of approximately 380nm - 780nm. Here, UV can particularly refer to wavelengths selected from the range of 190nm - 380nm, such as 200nm - 380nm. The terms "light" and "radiation" can be used interchangeably in this document, unless it is clear from the context that the term "light" only refers to visible light. Thus, the terms "light" and "radiation" can refer to UV radiation, visible light, and IR radiation. In a particular embodiment, particularly for lighting applications, the terms "light" and "radiation" refer to (at least) visible light.

[0122] The term "control" and similar terms at least refer to determining the behavior of an element or supervising the operation of an element. Thus, the "control" and similar terms in this document can, for example, refer to imposing a behavior on an element (determining the behavior or supervising the operation of the element), such as measuring, displaying, actuating, turning on, moving, changing the temperature, etc. In addition to this, the term "control" and similar terms can also include monitoring. Thus, the term "control" and similar terms can include imposing a behavior on an element and can also include imposing a behavior on an element and monitoring that element. The control of an element can be carried out by a control system, which can also be referred to as a "controller". Thus, the control system and the element can be functionally coupled at least temporarily or permanently. The element can include the control system. In an embodiment, the control system and the element can not be physically coupled. The control can be carried out via wired and / or wireless control. The term "control system" can also refer to a plurality of different control systems that are functionally coupled particularly, and where, for example, one control system can be a main control system and one or more other control systems can be slave control systems. The control system can include a user interface or can be functionally coupled to a user interface.

[0123] The control system can also be configured to receive and execute instructions from a remote control. In an embodiment, the control system can be controlled via an App on the device, such as a portable device, like a smartphone or iPhone, a tablet computer, etc. Thus, the device is not necessarily coupled to the lighting system, but can be (temporarily) functionally coupled to the lighting system.

[0124] Thus, in an embodiment, the control system can (also) be configured to be controlled by an App on a remote device. In such an embodiment, the control system of the lighting system can be a slave control system or a control in a slave mode. For example, the lighting system can be identified by a code, particularly a unique code of the corresponding lighting system. The control system of the lighting system can be configured to be controlled by an external control system, which can access the lighting system based on the knowledge of the (unique) code (input by a user interface with an optical sensor (e.g., a QR code reader)). The lighting system can also include components for communicating with other systems or devices, such as based on Bluetooth, Thread, WIFI, LiFi, ZigBee, BLE, or WiMAX, or another wireless technology.

[0125] The system, apparatus, or device can perform an action in a "mode" or "operation mode" or "mode of operation" or "operational mode". The term "operation mode" can also be indicated as "control mode". Similarly, in a method, an action or stage or step can be performed in a "mode" or "operation mode" or "mode of operation" or "operational mode". This does not exclude that the system, apparatus, or device can also be adapted to provide another control mode or multiple other control modes. Similarly, this can not exclude that one or more other modes can be performed before and / or after performing this mode.

[0126] However, in an embodiment, a control system can be provided that is adapted to provide at least a control mode. If other modes are available, the selection of these modes can particularly be performed via a user interface, although other options are also possible, such as performing the mode according to a sensor signal or a (time) schedule. In an embodiment, the operation mode can also refer to a system, apparatus, or device that can only operate in a single operation mode (i.e., "on", without further tunability).

[0127] Thus, in an embodiment, the control system can be controlled according to one or more of an input signal of the user interface, a sensor signal (of a sensor), and a timer. The term "timer" can refer to a clock and / or a predetermined time schedule.

[0128] In yet another aspect, the present invention also provides a lamp or luminaire that includes a light generation system as described herein. The luminaire may further include a housing, optical elements, louvers, and the like. The lamp or luminaire may also include a housing that encloses the light generation system. The lamp or luminaire may include a light window or a housing opening in the housing through which the system light may escape from the housing. In yet another aspect, the present invention also provides a projection device that includes a light generation system as described herein. In particular, a projection device or "projector" or "image projector" may be an optical device that projects an image (or moving image) onto a surface such as, for example, a projection screen. The projection device may include one or more light generation systems as described herein. Thus, in one aspect, the present invention also provides a light generation device selected from the group consisting of a lamp, a luminaire, a projector device, a disinfection device, a photoreactor, and a light wireless communication device, the light generation device including a light generation system as defined herein. The light generation device may include a housing or carrier configured to accommodate or support one or more elements of the light generation system. For example, in an embodiment, the light generation device may include a housing or carrier configured to accommodate or support one or more of a first light generation device and a second light generation device, and optionally a third light generation device. [0149] Figure 2 2° and 10° color matching functions are provided (see also above). As can be derived from the above, high melanopsin illumination can use cyan to enhance the spectrum. To prevent the illumination in the room from having a green appearance, the 10° color matching function (CMF, large field of view) is used herein to match the color points with the BBL. In particular for these cyan-enhanced spectra, there is a large color point difference between 2° (narrow field of view) and 10° (wide field of view). For 'normal' white LEDs, the 2° and 10° color points are almost equal. The CMF is as Figure 2 shown.

[0150] Examples of spectra and color points can be seen in FIGS. 3c and 3a. FIG. 3a shows the color points. The open symbols indicate the blue pump color points, and the filled symbols indicate the cyan pump color points. The squares show the 2°C MF color points, and the circles show the 10°C MF color points. The dashed line indicates 5 SDCM. As can be seen from FIG. 3a, the 2° color points are substantially different, while the 10° color points are substantially the same. The spectral power distributions on which these color points are based are shown as curves CP65_10 and BP65_10 in FIG. 3c, indicating the spectral power distributions of 6500K cyan pump device light and 6500K blue pump device light, respectively.

[0151] Thus, in some cases, the individual color points of the LEDs can be seen (when observing the luminaire). In these cases, the hues of the cold white LEDs are significantly different: green and pink. Luminaires in which this occurs include panel and lens luminaires, which may be undesirable or even unacceptable.

[0152] Here, when using the present invention, the observable color difference between two cold white LEDs in cyan-enhanced illumination (blue and cyan pumping) is substantially eliminated, while good white light is observed in the environment.

[0153] Referring to FIGS. 3b and 3c, the LED color points are now matched at 2°, and the combined color point is matched with the BBL at 10°. Similarly, the squares show the 2° MF color points, and the circles show the 10° CMF color points. The dashed lines indicate 5 SDCM. As can be seen, the average of the 10° color points lies on the BBL, while the first 10° CMF color point and the second 10° CMF color point can be significantly above (significantly) and below (significantly) the BBL, respectively. The spectral power distributions on which these color points are based are shown in FIG. 3c as curves CP65_2 and BP65_2, indicating the spectral power distributions of the 6500K cyan-pumped device light and the 6500K blue-pumped device light, respectively.

[0154] FIG. 3d schematically depicts substantially the same curves CP65_2 and BP65_2, but now also a summation curve, indicated by reference numeral 116. The 10° color point of the light 116 is a combination of the first device light (here BP65_2) and the second device light (here CP65_2) and is substantially on the BBL (see also above).
