Abstract

A mooring member comprises a rope (1) configured to extend between a vessel (9) floating on a body of water (W) and an anchoring device (10). The mooring member comprises a plurality of functional elements (4), wherein a first functional element (4) is wound around at least a portion of the rope (1), a second functional element (42) is wound around the first functional element (4) and so on, until the outermost functional element (4) is wound around the second to outermost functional element (44). The functional elements are wound around in a helical configuration, and comprise one or more of the following in the group comprising: damage protection means, buoyancy means, optical detection means, sonar detection means, stiffness control means, anti-fouling means.
