AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional martensitic magnetic materials face issues with thermal stability and mass production, and they struggle to maintain a high magnetic saturation flux density, especially in Fe-based martensites used for electric motors.

Method used

A soft magnetic material is produced by carburizing and nitriding an iron-based material to form a carbon- and nitrogen-containing martensite with controlled carbon and nitrogen concentrations, and adding vanadium or niobium as an additive, followed by rapid heating and cooling to achieve a high magnetic saturation flux density.

Benefits of technology

The resulting material is thermally stable, cost-effective, and enhances the magnetic circuit performance of electric motors, enabling miniaturization and increased torque.
