Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a grommet and a grommet arrangement with two such grommets as well as a component which is equipped with the grommet and / or the grommet arrangement.

[0002] Grommets are generally well-known. They are often round, oval, or U-shaped. They are typically made of rubber-like materials or injection-molded plastics. Grommets are inserted into openings in a component body to enable simple, defined, and secure routing of cables and other items from one side of the component body to the other. The primary function of the grommet is to protect cables or other elements from the component body (e.g., a sharp-edged end face defining the grommet opening), to guide the cables precisely through the component body wall, and, if necessary, to at least partially seal the routing area.

[0003] Different grommets exist for different feed-through requirements. If different shapes or functionalities of such feed-through grommets are required within a product, then a correspondingly large number of different feed-through grommets will also be required. An example of such a product could be a luminaire. For example, reference can be made here to the TECTON luminaire system marketed by the applicant. This is an elongated luminaire support rail system in which cables must be introduced or led out of the support rail body at different feed-through points in order to electrically and / or data-connect and operate the electrical / electronic components located in the support rail body. Different feed-through grommets can be used at these feed-through points, which are adapted to the required conditions; e.g.a different number of cables and connectors to be passed through.

[0004] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a grommet, a grommet arrangement and a component equipped therewith - such as a luminaire - which can be used for different installation situations and feedthrough requirements.

[0005] This object is achieved by the subject matter of the independent claims. The dependent claims develop the central idea of the present invention in a particularly advantageous manner.

[0006] According to a first aspect, the present invention relates to a feed-through grommet for insertion into a recess in a flat surface of a component body, e.g. made of sheet metal, and for leading cables through this recess. The feed-through grommet has a U-shaped flange body. The flange body in turn has a U-shaped first flange section which laterally delimits an interior space for the cable to be led through (i.e. along the U-shape). The first flange section also projects outwards from the interior space, extending essentially in a plane. The first flange section has two first longitudinal sections which are opposite one another with respect to the interior space and are aligned parallel to an extension axis of the feed-through grommet extending in the plane, as well as a connecting section connecting the first longitudinal sections, or preferably consists of these. The flange body furthermore has athe plane orthogonal / perpendicular to the first flange section, which second flange section extends essentially parallel to the plane. The second flange section has or preferably consists of two second longitudinal sections which are opposite one another with respect to the interior, and which each protrude outwards from the interior. Each of the first flange sections or the first longitudinal sections forms, with a different one of the second flange sections or the second longitudinal sections in between, a receiving groove for receiving a component body section delimiting the recess, such as a sheet metal section. In at least one of the receiving grooves, a positioning web extends between the respective first and second longitudinal sections. The second longitudinal sections extend, in plan view of the plane, along the first flange section (oralong the associated first longitudinal section), and extend, in each case from the associated first longitudinal section, not or only partially along the connecting section - thus extending the respective receiving groove.

[0007] The receiving groove formed by the parallel flange sections allows the grommet to be inserted laterally—i.e., axially—into a recess open on one side. The positioning web provides the possibility of axially supporting the grommet inserted in this way. The first flange section can preferably simply serve as a secure support for the grommet. The second flange section serves as a counterbearing and preferably as a backing for securely receiving the grommet in the recess and ensuring a secure positive fit perpendicular to the extension axis.Furthermore, the design of the second longitudinal sections, which do not extend or only partially extend along the connecting section, means that the feedthrough grommet provided in this way can also be inserted into a recess that is closed on the circumference - i.e. not open on one side - and in this case is not inserted axially, but inserted vertically. This is because the two second longitudinal sections can be snapped behind the component body (section) or the sheet metal in a comparatively simple manner when the feedthrough grommet is inserted into the recess. The feedthrough grommet thus allows it to be used in a variety of installation situations. Not only can the feedthrough grommet be inserted and snapped into place axially, but the same feedthrough grommet can also be inserted and snapped into place perpendicular to the recess in a correspondingly different installation situation.Where two different types of grommets had to be used previously, the same grommet can now be used, reducing the variety of parts and ensuring a more uniform appearance. Reducing the variety of parts, in turn, increases production efficiency, for example, in terms of tool investment, unit quantities, and storage.

[0008] The connecting section preferably extends in an arcuate manner with respect to the extension axis, curved axially away from the interior. The grommet can therefore preferably be used for correspondingly curved U-shaped recesses. Since the transitions between the first longitudinal sections and the connecting section are thus smooth, the first flange section can be easily manufactured and provided.

[0009] The connecting section can preferably run inclined towards and / or at its axial end distal to the first longitudinal sections with respect to the plane towards the side having the second flange section. In this way, the inclined connecting section makes it possible to provide a defined support point when the grommet is inserted into the recess. Since this support point is spaced from the receiving grooves, this support point essentially wedges the grommet in the area of the receiving groove and thus enables the grommet to fit particularly firmly. This is advantageous for the stability of the grommet at its installation location. If the grommet is also intended to fulfil a sealing function, this can achieve a particularly tight fit.

[0010] The first flange section preferably runs in a closed U-shape. This provides a continuous support and bearing surface for the grommet. Likewise, a preferably high degree of tightness can be achieved here, even if a sealing function is desired.

[0011] The first longitudinal sections preferably protrude further outwards from the interior radially with respect to the axis of extension than the second longitudinal sections. Thus, the first longitudinal sections can serve as a secure support element, while the second longitudinal sections can be effectively provided as a secure counterbearing on the one hand and also as a backing for vertical insertion on the other. For example, it can be easily made possible to move the second longitudinal sections towards one another by elastically bending the feedthrough grommet around the axis of extension, thus enabling easy insertion into a corresponding recess. By releasing the feedthrough grommet, it relaxes into its initial configuration and thus engages with the backing (i.e. the second longitudinal sections) behind the component body or the sheet metal in order to accommodate and secure the feedthrough grommet in the recess.

[0012] The second longitudinal sections are preferably aligned parallel to the extension axis. This allows for a defined and uniform receiving groove. Furthermore, the grommet can be manufactured more easily.

[0013] The second longitudinal sections preferably extend, in plan view of the plane, from the associated first longitudinal section, at most up to an extension plane that is orthogonal / perpendicular to the extension axis and that touches the interior at an axial end with respect to the extension axis on the side of the connecting section, along the connecting section. Since the second longitudinal sections therefore do not protrude axially into an area that corresponds to a transversely running end section of the feedthrough grommet and thus to an associated recess, the feedthrough grommet can be inserted and snapped into place vertically relative to the recess in a particularly simple manner. However, since the second longitudinal sections also extend beyond the first longitudinal section and preferably as far as possible, a particularly secure hold and a firm connection of the feedthrough grommet can be achieved.

[0014] The positioning web preferably divides the associated receiving groove into two groove sections parallel to the extension axis. This enables a good and secure locking function of the grommet, especially in the axially inserted installation variant. The groove sections also provide a secure mounting option for a sheet metal or component body section that defines the recess.

[0015] The positioning rib can preferably be positioned axially between the respective opposite ends of the associated receiving groove, preferably centrally therebetween. Thus, the positioning rib can be provided for an effective locking function.

[0016] When viewed from above, the positioning rib can taper away from the interior—thus, laterally outward. This allows for the positioning rib to be easily incorporated into the manufacturing process. Furthermore, a recess in the recess that accommodates the positioning rib for the locking function can also be easily incorporated. Furthermore, this allows for a locking position to be easily reached and a secure locking function to be maintained.

[0017] The grommet can preferably be formed in several parts, parallel to the extension axis, at least in the region of the first flange section. This makes it possible to provide a grommet that can be variably used or assembled for recesses of different lengths.

[0018] The multiple parts can preferably be connected to one another via predetermined separation elements, allowing the multiple parts to be selectively separated from one another. This simplifies both the production and handling of the multi-part grommet. Furthermore, the predetermined separation elements allow for particularly easy separation of the multiple parts, allowing the grommet to be configured to the appropriate length depending on the installation situation.

[0019] In at least one of the receiving grooves, a contact web can preferably extend between the respective first and second longitudinal sections, which defines an end of the receiving groove facing away from the connecting section. Such a contact web can preferably serve as a stop or contact point when the feed-through grommet is inserted axially into a recess. This allows the positioning of the feed-through grommet to be achieved in a defined manner and preferably provides the operator with feedback upon reaching it. When the feed-through grommet is inserted vertically, this contact web can additionally assume the function of a previously described positioning web.

[0020] The contact rib can, when viewed from above, slope outward toward the opposite end. This allows the contact rib to be easily manufactured in or with the grommet. On the other hand, a corresponding contact point can be introduced into the recess relatively easily. Furthermore, the inclined contact rib offers the possibility of a particularly simple and secure, and preferably self-centering, radial positioning of the grommet when it is inserted or inserted into a recess.

[0021] The feedthrough grommet can preferably further comprise a feedthrough wall section that spans the interior at least partially or substantially completely and is designed to selectively and preferably completely or partially expose the interior for the passage of cables. Such a feedthrough wall section serves to partially or largely cover the recess in order to prevent penetration, in particular by larger bodies. Depending on the design, the feedthrough wall section can also enable a higher degree of protection for the feedthrough grommet. The feedthrough wall section can also be used as a contact protection measure. By selectively exposing it, only defined feedthrough areas for the passage of cables, for example, can be provided in a simple manner, as required.

[0022] The feedthrough wall section preferably extends in the plane or parallel to it. Thus, the feedthrough wall section can be formed, for example, flush with a component body in which the feedthrough grommet is provided. However, the feedthrough wall section is preferably aligned at least parallel to a corresponding wall section of the component body that has the recess.

[0023] The feedthrough wall section preferably has a flap section which is provided such that it can be pivoted or bent or removed in a direction perpendicular to the plane in order to selectively and preferably completely or partially expose the interior for the passage of cables. By means of such a flap section, it is made possible, on the one hand, to keep the feedthrough grommet in the closed configuration when no cables or the like are being passed through, while by simply pivoting or bending or removing the flap sections, any desired cables can then be passed through the recess and thus the feedthrough grommet. If the flap sections are provided so that they can be pivoted or bent accordingly, no loose elements or waste are produced when the feedthrough grommet is transferred from the closed configuration to the (at least partially) open configuration. In addition, the grommet can be returned to its closed configuration after removing the elements (e.g., cables). It is also conceivable, of course, that the flap sections can be separated as needed—e.g., cut out—to create the most effective and largest possible opening in the grommet while maintaining a compact design.

[0024] The feedthrough wall section can preferably have a plurality of flap sections. This allows for different opening configurations to be provided, which can be selectively adjusted; this is preferred, for example, to pass through different numbers of cables and the like, while effectively adapting the opening in the feedthrough grommet to the number and size of the elements being passed through.

[0025] The or each of the flap sections can preferably have predetermined separation sections, with which this or each flap section, in the initial configuration closing the interior, is connected to the flange body and / or, if present, to another of the flap sections. Thus, the grommet can be securely closed in its initial configuration. By separating the predetermined separation sections, the flap sections can then be released for exposure in a defined manner.

[0026] The flange body can preferably further comprise a connecting wall extending between the first flange section and the second flange section and at least partially or completely delimiting the receiving groove toward the interior. This allows for a secure covering of a front edge of a component body or sheet metal that delimits the recess, thus enabling the passage of corresponding elements (e.g., cables). Furthermore, the connecting wall offers a secure and easy-to-manufacture method for connecting the two flange sections to each other.

[0027] The connecting wall preferably extends in a closed, partial, or intermittent manner; this is particularly preferred along the entire U-shape. In the closed version, a corresponding end edge bordering the recess can be covered. With a partial or intermittent version, material can be saved, while the connecting wall can be effectively provided in the necessary areas. Furthermore, the grommet can be designed more flexibly if necessary.

[0028] The grommet is preferably manufactured as a one-piece element or component. This makes the grommet particularly easy to manufacture and handle.

[0029] The grommet is preferably made of plastic; this is particularly preferred using an injection molding process or a two-component injection molding process. Thus, the grommet can be easily manufactured using known materials.

[0030] The flange body is preferably made of a harder material than the areas directly bordering the interior space and / or parts of the grommet. The latter can be, for example, the sections facing the interior space, or areas or front edges of the respective flange sections. It can also be, for example, the optional connecting wall. This allows the areas used to connect the grommet to be made of a more stable material, while the areas bordering the interior space, which usually come into contact with the elements to be passed through (e.g., cables), are made of a softer material. This allows wear on the elements to be passed through to be kept to a minimum.

[0031] The feedthrough wall section or its flap section can preferably be made of a softer material than the flange body. This allows the feedthrough wall section or its flap section to be easily manipulated (e.g., pivoted, bent, or cut out) to allow cables to pass through. It also serves as a material-friendly contact surface for elements (e.g., cables) that pass past it or are guided through the feedthrough grommet. The feedthrough wall section or flap section, with a suitable material, can also provide a certain sealing function with the desired degree of protection.

[0032] According to a further aspect, the present invention further relates to a grommet assembly. This assembly comprises two grommets according to the present invention. The two grommets are oriented in the same plane (i.e., the top sides face in the same direction and the bottom sides face in the same direction) and are each arranged adjacent to one another with their ends axially remote from the connecting section, so that they define an overall interior space comprising the two interior spaces for the passage of cables.

[0033] In addition to the previously described advantages of the single grommet, which also apply to the dual application of the grommet in the form of a grommet arrangement, the grommet arrangement also makes it possible to create a larger overall arrangement (e.g., rectangular or oval) by doubling the grommet. This allows, for example, openings twice as large to be equipped with a corresponding grommet function.

[0034] The grommets can be provided as individual parts and, when installed, assembled together as a grommet assembly. It is also particularly advantageous for the grommets to be connected to one another via a connecting area, which simplifies both the manufacturing and handling of the grommet assembly.

[0035] The connection area can preferably be designed as a predetermined separation area to selectively separate the grommets. This makes it easy to separate and use the individual grommets described above from the grommet arrangement as needed. Thus, depending on the requirements, the grommet arrangement for a large opening or the grommet for a correspondingly smaller opening can be generated from the same grommet arrangement.

[0036] According to a further aspect, the present invention further relates to a component, such as a luminaire. The component has a component body (e.g., a luminaire housing) with a recess in a flat surface of the component body for passing cables through this recess. Furthermore, the component has a grommet or a grommet arrangement according to the present invention, as already described above. The grommet or the grommet arrangement is then preferably inserted or can be inserted into the recess such that the receiving groove accommodates a component body section delimiting the recess, the positioning web engages a recess in the recess, and the first flange section rests on one side of the component body, preferably in a circumferentially closed manner and more preferably rests flatly.

[0037] Thus, the previously described advantages of the grommet or grommet assembly can be easily transferred to a corresponding component when used. The component can preferably be a light. Thus, corresponding components or lights can be provided that can be easily equipped with such grommets or grommet assemblies. Of course, the component can also have several of the recesses into which several of the grommets and / or grommet assemblies can then be inserted.

[0038] The component body preferably has a body opening from which the recess extends. The component then preferably further has a cover cap which is designed to at least partially cover the body opening when the feedthrough grommet is inserted. Thus, a feedthrough grommet can also be provided in a region of the component body in which the latter is open towards a body opening. On the one hand, this facilitates the insertion of the feedthrough grommet by simply sliding it on axially. On the other hand, the provision of the cover cap allows the body opening to be easily closed, thus creating an overall closed component that is highly functional thanks to the feedthrough grommet and cover cap elements.

[0039] The cover cap preferably has an opening arranged to expand the interior space for the cable passage. Thus, as needed, the feedthrough function of the grommet can be at least partially extended into the adjacent cover cap, so that the functionality of the grommet can also be increased in corresponding areas. This also makes it possible to expand the feedthrough area of the grommet, which is smaller than the grommet arrangement, as needed and as needed.

[0040] The cover cap can have a release section designed to cover the opening and can be removed or moved (e.g., pivoted, folded, or bent away) to expose the opening. This allows the opening in the cover cap to be exposed only when needed, allowing it to remain closed when not in use. This allows a higher tightness class to be maintained while simultaneously allowing for the possibility of expanding the feedthrough area if necessary.

[0041] The component body can be made from sheet metal, at least in the area of the flat surface or the component body section; preferably as a stamped and bent part. The component body can also be formed, at least in sections, as a plate-like structure or as a plate-like element, at least in the area of the flat surface or the component body section. The component body can also be made from plastic or as a plastic part, preferably as an injection-molded part, at least in the area of the flat surface or the component body section. Thus, the component body can be manufactured in any desired manner and, furthermore, in a particularly simple manner, as required.

[0042] Further advantages and embodiments of the present invention are described below with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawings. They show: Fig. 1 a perspective top view of a grommet according to the invention according to a first embodiment of the present invention, Fig. 2 a perspective bottom view of the grommet according to the invention according to Fig. 1, Fig. 3 a plan view of the grommet according to the invention according to Fig. 1, Fig. 4 a bottom view of the grommet according to the invention according to Fig. 1, Fig. 5 a plan view of a grommet assembly according to the invention, here comprising two of the grommets according to the invention according to Fig. 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention, Fig. 6 a side view of the grommet assembly according to the invention according to Fig. 5, Fig. 7 a perspective view of a component according to the invention with a grommet according to the invention according to Fig. 1 and a grommet assembly according to the invention according to Fig. 5, Fig. 8 a partial plan view of the component according to the invention according to Fig. 7, and Fig. 9 a bottom view of the component body of the component according to the invention according to Fig. 7.

[0043] The figures show a grommet 1 according to the invention (see Fig. 1-8), a grommet arrangement 10 formed therewith (cf. Fig. 5-8) and a component 100 equipped or capable of being equipped with these, such as a lamp ( Fig. 7-9).

[0044] In the following, the grommet 1 according to the invention is first described. The grommet 1 is used for insertion into a recess 110 in a flat surface 102 of a sheet metal or component body 101 and for passing cables (not shown here) through this recess 110 (cf., for example, Fig. 7-9).

[0045] The grommet 1 can preferably be manufactured as a one-piece component. The grommet 1 is preferably made of plastic, preferably using an injection molding process or a two-component injection molding process.

[0046] The grommet 1 has a U-shaped flange body 2, as it is used in particular for Fig. 1-4 can be seen.

[0047] The flange body 2 has a Fig. 1-4, which laterally delimits an interior space 30 for the passage of the cables and projects outwards from the interior space 30, extending essentially in a plane E. The first flange section 3 can preferably extend in a closed U-shape, as can be seen in particular from the illustrations of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 can be seen.

[0048] The first flange section 3 has or consists of two first longitudinal sections 31 which are opposite one another with respect to the interior 30 and are aligned parallel to an extension axis X of the grommet 1 extending in the plane E, as well as a connecting section 32 connecting the first longitudinal sections 31. The corresponding arrangement of the first longitudinal sections 31 and the connecting section 32 results in the U-shaped configuration of the first flange section 3. The connecting section 32 can preferably extend in an arcuate manner with respect to the extension axis X axially away from the interior 30, as shown, for example, in the illustrations of the Fig. 1-4. In principle, it is also conceivable that the connecting section 32 runs at an angle, square, or in some other way.

[0049] The flange body 2 further comprises a second flange section 4 which is offset orthogonally to the first flange section 3 with respect to the plane E and which extends substantially parallel to the plane E, as can be seen in particular from the illustrations of the Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 4. The second flange section 4 in turn has two second longitudinal sections 41 which are opposite one another with respect to the interior space 30 and which each project outwards from the interior space 30, as can also be seen from the illustrations of Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 4. Preferably, the first longitudinal sections 31 can each project further outwards from the interior 30 radially with respect to the extension axis X than the second longitudinal sections 41, as is particularly clearly shown in the Fig. 4. The second longitudinal sections 41 can preferably be aligned or run parallel to the extension axis X.

[0050] The flange body 2 can preferably be made of a harder material than the areas and / or parts of the grommet 1 directly delimiting the interior space 30.

[0051] The connecting section 32 can preferably extend inclined to and / or at its axial end 33 distal to the first longitudinal sections 31 with respect to the plane E towards the side having the second flange section 4, as can be seen particularly clearly from the side view of the Fig. 6 with respect to both grommets 1 at the outer right and left ends. The inclination is illustrated here by the angle α.

[0052] The grommet 1 can preferably be formed in several parts, at least in the region of the first flange section 3, parallel to the extension axis X. The multiple parts can then preferably be connected to one another via predetermined separation elements in such a way that the multiple parts can be selectively separated from one another.

[0053] Each of the first flange sections 3 - in particular each of the first longitudinal sections 31 - can preferably form a receiving groove 5 with a different one of the second flange sections 4 - in particular with a different one of the second longitudinal sections 41 - in between for receiving a sheet metal section or component body section 103 delimiting the recess 110.

[0054] The flange body 2 may preferably further comprise a connecting wall 9, as shown for example in the Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 4 and Fig. 6. The connecting wall 9 can preferably extend between the first flange section 3 and the second flange section 4 and delimit the receiving groove 5 towards the interior 30, as can be seen in particular from the illustrations of Fig. 2 and Fig. 4. The connecting wall 9 can extend, preferably along the entire U-shape, closed or partially intermittent. In the illustrations of the Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 a closed extension is visible here.

[0055] In at least one of the receiving grooves 5 - here preferably in both - a positioning web 6 extends between the respective first and second longitudinal sections 31, 41, as shown for example in the Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 6. The positioning web 6 preferably separates the associated receiving groove 5 parallel to the extension axis X into two groove sections 50, 51. The positioning web 6 can preferably be positioned axially between, preferably centrally between, the respective opposite ends 52, 53 of the associated receiving groove 5. In plan view onto the plane E, the positioning web 6 can run away from the interior 30, as can be seen in particular from the perspective representations of Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 can be seen.

[0056] In at least one of the receiving grooves 5 - here preferably in both - a contact web 7 can preferably extend between the respective first and second longitudinal sections 31, 41, which delimits an end 53 of the receiving groove 5 facing away from the connecting section 32. The contact web 7 can, in plan view onto the plane E, extend inclined outwards towards the opposite end 53, as can be seen in particular from the illustration of the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 is evident.

[0057] The second longitudinal sections 41 extend, in plan view onto the plane E, along the first flange section 3, and they extend, in each case from the associated first longitudinal section 31, not or only partially along the connecting section 32, as can be seen in particular from the illustrations of the Fig. 2 and Fig. 4. It can be seen that the second longitudinal sections 41, in plan view onto the plane E, preferably extend from the associated first longitudinal section 31, at most up to an extension plane T which is orthogonal to the extension axis X (cf. Fig. 4), which touches the interior 30 at an axial end 34 on the side of the connecting section 32 with respect to the extension axis X, extend further along the connecting section 32. For example, the Fig. 4, these do not extend entirely to the previously described extension plane T, but only partially along the connecting section 32.

[0058] The feedthrough grommet 1 can further comprise a feedthrough wall section 8, which spans the interior space 30 at least partially or substantially completely and is designed to optionally and preferably completely or partially expose the interior space 30 for the passage of cables. The feedthrough wall section 8 is particularly shown in the illustrations of Fig. 1-5.

[0059] The feedthrough wall section 8 can preferably extend in the plane E (as shown) or parallel thereto.

[0060] The lead-through wall section 8 can preferably have a flap section 80 (in this case, several flap sections 80), which is provided in such a way that it can be pivoted or bent or separated in a direction perpendicular to the plane E in order to optionally and preferably completely or partially expose the interior space 30 for the passage of cables.

[0061] The or each of the flap sections 80 can preferably have predetermined separation sections 81, with which this or each flap section 80 is connected in the initial configuration at least partially closing the interior 30 to the flange body 2 and / or, if present, to another of the flap sections 80, as is also particularly evident from the illustrations of the Fig. 3-5 can be seen.

[0062] The feedthrough wall section 8 or its flap section 80 can preferably be made of a softer material than the flange body 2.

[0063] With a view to the Fig. 5-8, the present invention is further directed to a grommet assembly 10. The grommet assembly 10 here comprises two of the grommets 1 according to the invention.
