Description

Title of the invention: Touch screen display device managing the wiping function of a glass surface of a motor vehicle

[0001] The present invention relates generally to HMIs (Human Machine Interface) arranged in the cockpits, or passenger compartments, of motor vehicles and is more particularly concerned with a touch screen display device managing the function of wiping a glass surface of a motor vehicle; said screen device also grouping together the main information usually displayed on a motor vehicle instrument cluster and the information usually displayed on a central screen of the vehicle, also called a multimedia screen.

[0002] The term "instrument cluster", or simply "cluster", is generally associated with the terms "dashboard" or "instrument panel" or even "cluster", in Anglo-Saxon terminology.

[0003] Currently, in a motor vehicle dashboard, the displays of information necessary for driving the vehicle (speed, number of revolutions per minute, fuel level, etc.) are increasingly in virtual form (i.e. as images) via an instrument cluster taking the form of a reconfigurable screen of the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) type with an active matrix, generally of the TFT (Thin Film Transistor) type. In addition, the dashboard generally also has a set of indicators and warning lights which inform the driver about the operation of components and / or equipment of the vehicle and about the driving parameters of the vehicle. These indicators and warning lights are integrated into the LCD-TFT screen in the form of icons, or pictograms, which can appear selectively in the display surface of the cluster.

[0004] The instrument panel is generally arranged on the dashboard, opposite the driver when the latter is seated at the wheel of the vehicle.

[0005] This handset, which can be small in size, is completed by a central touch screen, or multimedia screen, of generally rectangular shape, generally arranged in the center of the dashboard.

[0006] The multimedia screen makes it possible in particular to display a certain number of screen pages each successively displaying information relating, respectively, to functionalities of the vehicle. This information is provided by the vehicle's multimedia system, also called the infotainment system ("infotainment system" in English terminology) which manages the exchanges between the driver and the vehicle.

[0007] For example, we find pages dedicated to driving assistance (navigation, control vehicle trajectory, safety distances, rear view, etc.), pages dedicated to the comfort of the vehicle's occupants: (air conditioning, seat temperature, etc.), pages dedicated to audio and infotainment (radio, telephone, etc.) and also pages dedicated to technical status and configuration information relating to a vehicle component or equipment (setting timers, safety distances, etc.).

[0008] Other vehicle equipment remains manually controlled, with direct access, without having to navigate through display screen menus, such as in particular the lighting controls and the wiper controls, the activation and deactivation of which are done via a dedicated manual control member, generally located behind the steering wheel on the end of a branch extending from the steering column, generally referred to as a "comodo".

[0009] The adjustment of the wiping power (sweeping speed of the wiper blades on the vehicle's windscreen or wiping speed) is also done by the stalk, as is the adjustment of the wiping sensitivity in automatic control mode, when the vehicle is equipped with this option.

[0010] For this purpose, the control member comprises a cylindrical mechanical selector, with one or more adjustment rings, with several positions, or indexing notches, distributed over the cylindrical surface of the selector, allowing respectively to activate and deactivate the wiping function, to select the wiping power (wiping speed) generally two wiping powers 1 and 2, in addition to the default power, to select the wiping function in automatic mode and optionally the sensitivity of the wiping in automatic control mode.

[0011] This type of manual control, located behind the steering wheel, is generally not very visible to the driver and when the option of adjusting the sensitivity of the wipers, in automatic control mode, is available on the vehicle, its use is often poorly understood by the user.

[0012] The invention proposes a solution making it possible to optimize the visibility of the controls for wiping a glass surface and in particular a motor vehicle windshield, and to optimize the ergonomics of the display of the control information and the controls relating to wiping on a single “large” central touch screen in the vehicle managing the vehicle wiping function; a screen combining a simplified version of a conventional handset and the content of a conventional central multimedia screen.

[0013] To this end, the present invention has as its first object a touch screen display device for a motor vehicle comprising a first touch screen part displaying information necessary for driving the vehicle and a second touch screen part, adjacent to the first, displaying a determined number of adjacent screen pages filling the display surface of the second screen part and dedicated respectively to one or more functionalities and settings of the vehicle; said first screen part comprising at least one touch control button capable of displaying a first determined graphic representation in relation to a state of a determined operating mode of a determined function of the vehicle and capable of controlling the display of a succession of graphic representations corresponding respectively to operating states in relation to the operating mode of said function, following at least a first press of a determined duration on the touch control button by a user of the device; each graphic representation, displayed among the succession of graphic representations, allowing the selection and control of the corresponding operating state.

[0014] According to one characteristic, the function is a function for wiping a glass surface of a motor vehicle, and according to a first selection mode, the touch control button, from a first operating state corresponding to a deactivated state of the wiping function in manual control mode, is capable of displaying several determined pictograms in relation respectively, with several determined wiping speeds, following several successive presses of the same determined duration on the touch control button.

[0015] According to a second selection mode, the touch control button, from a first operating state corresponding to a deactivated state of the wiping function in manual control mode, is capable of displaying a first determined pictogram corresponding to a first determined wiping speed, following a press of determined duration on the touch control button, followed by a display of a second determined pictogram and a third determined pictogram, corresponding respectively to second and third determined wiping speeds, organized in a carousel; the user of the device scrolling through the pictograms within the carousel to select a desired determined speed; said touch button displaying the selected speed.

[0016] According to a third selection mode, the touch control button, from a first operating state corresponding to a deactivated state of the wiping function in manual control mode, is capable of displaying determined pictograms corresponding to determined successive wiping speeds, according to a determined sequence, by maintaining pressure on the touch control button to scroll through the pictograms until reaching a determined pictogram corresponding to a desired determined speed and by releasing pressure on the touch control button once the speed desired by the user of the device has been reached.

[0017] According to a fourth selection mode, said second screen part is capable of in addition to displaying, for a determined duration, and superimposed on the current display on the display surface of the second part of the screen, following a press of determined duration on the touch control button, from a first operating state corresponding to a deactivated state of the wiping function in manual control mode, a first window capable of displaying touch control pads corresponding to the wiping speeds and allowing the user of the device to select and control the desired speed.

[0018] According to a fifth selection mode, the first window, displaying the touch control pads corresponding respectively to the wiping speeds and making it possible to select and control the speed desired by the user of the device, is capable of displaying, in addition, an additional touch control pad, capable of selecting and controlling the wiping function in automatic control mode; the touch button displaying the pictogram corresponding to the automatic control mode.

[0019] According to a characteristic of the fifth selection mode, said second screen part is further capable of displaying, for a determined duration, and superimposed on the current display on the display surface of the second screen part, following a press of determined duration on the touch control pad displaying the pictogram corresponding to the automatic control mode, a second window replacing the first, displaying the same content as the first window accompanied by a graphic representation of a scale of sensitivity levels of the wiping in automatic control mode and at least one touch control pad cooperating with said scale to allow the user of the device to adjust the sensitivity level of the wiping in automatic control mode;a fixed-duration press on one of the touch control pads corresponding to the wiping speeds of the manual control mode, allowing the corresponding speed to be selected and controlled and the pictogram corresponding to the wiping speed selected on the control button to be displayed.;

[0020] According to another characteristic, said second screen part is further capable of displaying, for a determined duration, and superimposed on the current display on the display surface of the second screen part, following a press of determined duration on the touch control button, dedicated to the control of the wiping function in automatic control mode, a window displaying a graphic representation of a scale of sensitivity levels of the wiping in automatic control mode, and at least one touch control pad cooperating with said scale to allow the user of the device to adjust the sensitivity level of the wiping in automatic control mode.

[0021] According to another characteristic, the first screen part is capable of displaying in formations similar to those displayed on a motor vehicle dashboard instrument cluster, and in which the second screen portion is capable of displaying information similar to that displayed on a multimedia screen of a motor vehicle.

[0022] Finally, the present invention has as a second object, a motor vehicle comprising a touch screen display device as described above.

[0023] The present invention has the advantage of providing a more ergonomic and intuitive solution for the user in using the “Wiping” function. It also makes it possible to do without physical controls to activate / deactivate automatic wiping and adjust its sensitivity. Finally, it allows functional grouping of the “Wiping” function and its access is direct.

[0035] [Fig. 11] illustrates a mode of displaying information relating to the automatic control mode of the wiping function, from the touch screen display device according to the invention.

[0036] [Fig.l] illustrates a schematic interior view of a passenger compartment, or cockpit, HAB of a VHL motor vehicle comprising a DEC touch screen display device according to the invention.

[0037] The touch screen display device DEC is generally rectangular in shape and extends transversely in the central part of the dashboard PDB, from the steering wheel VOL of the vehicle VHL. It alone constitutes the dashboard TBD of the vehicle VHL.

[0038] It may optionally be supplemented with a head-up display (HUD) type screen, DTH, arranged on the dashboard PDB behind the steering wheel VOL and so as to appear above the steering wheel VOL, in the driver's field of vision.

[0039] In one embodiment of a touchscreen display device DEC according to the invention, illustrated in [Fig.2], the touchscreen display device DEC groups together the display of the main driving information offered by the traditional instrument cluster in a first screen part EC1, and the display of the information offered by the traditional central screen, or multimedia screen of a vehicle, in a second screen part EC2, adjacent to the first EC1.

[0040] With this type of touch screen display device DEC according to the invention, the first screen part EC1, similar to a traditional instrument panel, is no longer arranged opposite the steering wheel VOL ([Fig.l]), being centered relative to the steering wheel VOL, but is substantially offset to the right of the steering wheel VOL (for a left-hand drive vehicle) and towards the top of the dashboard PDB so as to remain in the driver's field of vision while driving.

[0041] The rectangular display surface S AF of the DEC touch display screen device corresponds substantially to the “overall” surface of the DEC touch display screen device.

[0042] The DEC touch display screen device according to the invention is generally presented as a very long rectangular touch screen installed on the dashboard PDB. It uses, for example, a display technology of the TFT LCD (Thin Film Transistor Light-Emitting Diode) type or equivalent type OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) or AMOLED (Active Matrix OLED), associated with a touch detection layer.

[0043] Its length is for example substantially equal to four times its width.

[0044] The display surface S AF is divided into at least a first portion SA1, the leftmost of the touch display screen device DEC, corresponding to the first screen portion EC1, and a second portion SA2, adjacent to the first SA1, extending to the right of the first portion SA1 and defining the remaining portion of the display surface SAF, corresponding to the second screen portion EC2.

[0045] The first part SA1 of the display surface SAF is intended for displaying driving information and indicators and warning lights capable of informing the driver about the operation of the vehicle and the driving parameters. It has substantially the same layout as a traditional instrument panel touch screen.

[0046] The second display part SA2 is intended for displaying a determined number of adjacent screen pages PG1-PG5 dedicated respectively to one or more functionalities of the VHL vehicle and whose dimensions and arrangement are adapted to the type of information carried by the pages PG1-PG5 and to a determined graphic design set by the manufacturer of the motor vehicle.

[0047] The term "page" is used here by analogy with the pages of a traditional central screen, pages which in this type of screen are displayed in succession one after the other on the screen following a command made from a menu displayed on the central screen or from dedicated command buttons.

[0048] In the second display part SA2 (EC2) of the touch screen display device DEC according to the invention, all pages PG1-PG5 are displayed simultaneously but the content of pages PGA-PG5 can change.

[0049] For example, there are pages dedicated to displaying information on current functionalities and pages dedicated to controlling functionalities defining touch control buttons of the VHL vehicle that the user can select directly from the page that is already displayed on the second display part SA2 (EC2).

[0050] The content of a page dedicated to displaying information can, once a functionality command is selected, change content and display information relating to the functionality ordered.

[0051] Thus, there are pages dedicated to the audio system or to the infotainment of the VHL vehicle such as the display of the title of a piece of music selected by the user from a pre-recorded playlist or the radio station selected from the list of stored stations, the name and / or the telephone number of a contact selected from a telephone directory, pages dedicated to driving assistance such as the route followed by the VHL vehicle set by the navigation system vigation, VHL vehicle trajectory control, safety distances, rear-view, etc. pages dedicated to the comfort of VHL vehicle occupants: air conditioning, seat temperature, etc., pages dedicated to settings relating to a VHL vehicle component or equipment, etc.

[0052] The pages may contain images or photos, graphic representations such as pictograms for orders, or others.

[0053] [Fig.2] illustrates the touch screen display device DEC according to the invention comprising, in the first screen part EC1, a TLC indicator displaying a graphic representation in the form of a pictogram representative of a first operating state of a windscreen wiping function PRB of the vehicle VHL ([Fig.l]).

[0054] In the example considered in [Fig.2], the first operating state of the wiping function corresponds to a wiping state with manual control mode deactivated by default.

[0055] A graphic representation, used to represent this first state, corresponds to a PMD pictogram schematically representing a windshield outline and a windshield wiper blade, with a determined color, for example “gray” color.

[0056] By graphic representation is meant a specific pattern with a specific color. Thus, two pictograms having the same pattern but different colors are considered as two distinct graphic representations corresponding respectively to two distinct operating states.

[0057] Advantageously, as illustrated in [Fig.3], the TLC indicator also serves as a touch control button (or touch control indicator) and which, when activated by the user UTI, selects and controls a succession of operating states of the vehicle wiping function VHL.

[0058] In the example considered, activating the TLC touch control button changes the pictogram displayed on the TLC touch control button: a new PVE pictogram, with the same pattern as the previous PMD pictogram but in green.

[0059] The wiping function, controlled via the TLC touch control button, implements at least one wiper blade, arranged on the outer surface of the windshield of the VHL vehicle and coupled to a blade drive mechanism, not shown.

[0060] A single TLC touch control button is configured to be able to select and directly control several operating states of the wiping function when the user UTI acts on this TLC touch control button.

[0061] Various examples of modes of selection and control of operating states of the windscreen wiping function PRB of the motor vehicle VHL from a display screen device are described below, with reference to FIGS. 4 to 10. DEC touchscreen according to the invention.

[0062] In a first example of selection and control mode, illustrated in [Fig. 4], the touch control button TLC displays a second graphic representation (PVE pictogram) following a first press, by the user UTI, of a first determined duration on the touch control button TLC, PMD in particular a “long” press.

[0063] A “long” press is defined relative to a “short” press. A “short” press is a “furtive” press, whereas a “long” press requires the UTI user’s finger to be held on the TLC button for at least a determined duration until the function’s state changes.

[0064] This second PVE graphic representation, corresponding to a second operating state, is displayed with the same PMD pictogram changing color: from gray to green.

[0065] In this second operating state, with the PVE pictogram, the wiping function is activated with a first determined wiping speed (or wiping power) known as default.

[0066] A second “long” press on the TLC touch button controls a third operating state with a third pictogram PV1: still schematically representing a windshield outline and a wiper blade to which the number “1” is added (new pattern). In this third operating state, the wiping function is activated with a second wiping speed (or wiping power) greater than the first “default” speed.

[0067] A third “long” press on the TLC touch button controls a fourth operating state with a fourth graphic representation PV2, here a new pictogram, green in color, still schematically symbolizing a windshield outline and a wiper blade, to which the number “2” is added (new pattern). In this fourth operating state, the wiping function is activated with a third wiping speed, higher than the second speed (or wiping power). Once the speed is selected, the TCL touch button displays the pictogram corresponding to the selected speed

[0068] A press of a second determined duration called a “short” press, as opposed to a “long” press, on the TLC touch control button, at any time in the display sequence SEQ of the pictograms PVE, PV1 and PV2, makes it possible to return to the previous operating state.

[0069] Optionally, an operating state corresponding to degraded operation (malfunction) of the wiping function, due in particular to wear of a windshield wiper blade, a PVO pictogram, schematically symbolizing a windshield outline and a windshield wiper blade, is displayed with an orange color. (new graphic representation).

[0070] [Fig. 5] illustrates a second example of selection and control mode, in which the touch control button TLC is able to select and control a new operating state, following a “long” press on the touch control button TLC, here the pictogram PV2 potentially followed by a swipe movement of a finger of the user UTI to the left to select the pictogram PV1 or to the right of the button TLC to select the pictogram PVE. The pictograms PVE, PV1 and PV2 are organized in the form of a carousel allowing the pictograms PVE, PV1 and PV2 to be scrolled, in the manner of the display mode of a carousel.

[0071] In the example considered, a “long” press displays a first state with the PV2 pictogram displaying the number “2” (third speed). A swipe to the left displays the PV 1 pictogram displaying the number “1” (second speed) and a swipe to the right displays the PVE pictogram without a number (first “default” speed). Once the speed is selected, the TCL touch button displays the pictogram corresponding to the selected speed.

[0072] [Fig.6] illustrates a third example of selection and control mode, in which the TLC touch control button is capable of directly selecting a new determined operating state, by maintaining a pressure of a determined duration (for example a duration corresponding to a long press) on the TLC touch control button until reaching the display of the pictogram of the desired state and then releasing this pressure to select the state.

[0073] In the example considered, a “held” press on the TLC touch control button scrolls through the pictograms, here from the PV1 pictogram with the number “1” (second wiping speed), to the next pictogram in the determined sequence of operating states, here the PV2 pictogram with the number “2” (third wiping speed). Releasing the press opposite the PV2 pictogram makes it possible to select and control the operating state corresponding to the PV2 pictogram. Once the speed is selected, the TCL touch button displays the pictogram corresponding to the selected speed.

[0074] A new press and hold allows scrolling through the states again.

[0075] [Fig.7] illustrates a fourth example of a selection and control mode offered by the touch screen display device DEC according to the invention, in which the second screen part EC2 is capable of displaying, for a determined duration, and superimposed on the current display on the display surface SA2 of the second screen part EC2, a selection window FNS displaying in the form of a menu, or list, pictograms corresponding to the available states, for the selection and control of said states.

[0076] This type of FNS selection window is also referred to as "toast" in English terminology. It is displayed following a "long" press on the TLC touch control button displaying a PVE pictogram corresponding here to the operating state of the wiping in activated manual control mode.

[0077] In the example considered, we find the three pictograms PVE, PV1 and PV2 relating respectively to the three wiping speeds available in the context of wiping in manual control mode. Each of these pictograms PVE, PV1 and PV2 corresponds to a touch control element, or control pad, which can be selected by the user UTI by simple contact of the finger (short press) with the selected control pad.

[0078] Once the desired pictogram (block) has been selected, the FNS selection window “closes”, automatically disappearing from the second screen part EC2, of the DEC screen device at the end of a determined period and the TLC touch control button displays the selected pictogram. A new “long” press on the TLC touch control button allows the FNS selection window to be reopened (made to reappear) to allow the user UTI to access the pictograms (blocks) PVE, PV1 and PV2 again to change the wiping speed by selecting the corresponding pictogram (block) in the FNS selection window.

[0079] The FNS selection window can also display an additional PEA picogram (block) ([Fig.7]), representative of an operating state of the wiping function in automatic control mode corresponding to a fifth selection mode allowing a first type of access to the automatic control wiping mode.

[0080] This PEA pictogram (block) displays the word “AUTO” above the schematic representation of the windshield and the wiper blade.

[0081] It allows access to the automatically controlled wiping mode through the FNS state selection window, the opening of which had been controlled via the TLC touch control button which, in the example considered, was basically dedicated to the manually controlled wiping mode.

[0082] As illustrated in [Fig.8], once the PEA pictogram (block) is selected in the first window (selection window) FNS, the TLC touch button displays the PEA pictogram and a second window (adjustment window) FNR, wider than the first FNS, is displayed in the second part of screen EC2, replacing the FNS selection window, to allow the user UTI to adjust the sensitivity of the wipe in the automatic control mode.

[0083] In the example considered in [Fig.8], the second window (adjustment window) FNR redisplays the list of pictograms (control touchpads) of the first FNR window, accompanied by an example of graphic representation of a scale of sensitivity levels, here an adjustment bar BAR, with an adjustment touchpad, here a CTA touch cursor, capable of sliding along the adjustment bar BAR, between first and second ends of the bar BAR, marked respectively by “-” and “+”, respectively defining minimum and maximum levels of adjustment of the sensitivity of the automatic wiping. The different adjustment levels are considered as many operating states of the wiping function in the automatic control mode.

[0084] The PEA automatic control pictogram is also displayed as a thumbnail in the FNR adjustment window with the clear title of the FNR window: “Sensitivity adjustment”.

[0085] As illustrated in [Fig.9], in a sixth example of selection mode, and following a new long press on the TLC control button, displaying the PEA pictogram, the first window (selection window) FNS is displayed again in the second part of the screen EC2 and the user UTI can then either select one of the pictograms (touchpads) PVE, PV1 and PV2 to return to the manual control mode, or modify the sensitivity level of the wiping in the automatic control mode, by selecting the PEA pictogram (touchpad).

[0086] If one of the pictograms (touchpads), corresponding to the manual control mode, is selected, the TLC touch button then displays the corresponding pictogram, here the PV1 pictogram.

[0087] If the PEA pictogram is selected, the second window (adjustment window) FNR is displayed again in the second part of the EC2 screen, replacing the first FNS.

[0088] Thus, from a single touch control button TLC, displayed in the first part of screen EC1, the user UTI can control all the operating states available for the windscreen wiping function PRB of the motor vehicle VHL in the two operating modes: manual and automatic control modes.

[0089] [Fig. 10] illustrates a second type of access, called direct, to the wiping function in the automatic control mode.

[0090] In this second type of access, the first part of screen EC1 displays a touch button (touch indicator) TLC dedicated to the automatic control wiping mode. This touch button TLC displays the PEA pictogram representative of the automatic control wiping mode.

[0091] A long press on this TLC button allows to activate the automatic control wiping mode and a short press allows to open a window for adjusting the sensitivity of the wiping FNR which, in the example considered, is similar to the part of the FNR adjustment window already described with reference to [Fig.8] and representing the bar of BAR adjustment and CTA touch cursor (pad).

[0092] Although not shown, a touch button dedicated to the manually controlled wiping mode, as described previously, can coexist with that dedicated to the automatically controlled wiping mode, on the first screen part EC1. In such a case, the first FNS window does not display the control pad corresponding to the PEA pictogram.

[0093] Finally, [Fig.l 1], illustrates a display configuration of the touch screen display device DEC, in which a touch control button TLC, dedicated to wiping in automatic control mode, displays in the first screen part EC1, a PAD pictogram corresponding to a faulty operating state of an automatically controlled wiping. This PAD pictogram includes an exclamation point in addition to the PEA pictogram and is displayed with an “orange” color to attract the user’s attention.

[0094] A “long” press on the TLC touch control button displays an FNI information window, recognizable by the thumbnail representing the letter “i”, centered in a circle, to allow the UTI user to read an explanatory message “Explanations ...” on the potential cause of the fault: worn brush, etc.

[0095] The present invention thus provides direct access to the controls for the various operating states of a motor vehicle windshield wiping function with better visibility and readability of the control information without impacting the display of other information provided to the driver.
