Pedal-operated safety power cord

Abstract

A pedal-operated safety power cord for controlling the supply of electrical power to laboratory equipment and similar electrical systems is disclosed. The device comprises an electrical plug for connection to an alternating current (AC) power source, a metal foot pedal assembly containing a normally-open momentary switch, and an electrical output socket for connection to an electrical load, wherein the metal foot pedal assembly is electrically connected between the electrical plug and the electrical output socket through an insulated power cord. The normally-open momentary switch is arranged in series with the power line such that depression of the foot pedal closes the switch to permit the flow of electric current to the connected load, while release of the pedal opens the switch to interrupt the electrical circuit, thereby preventing unintended energization of the equipment. The device further includes an indicator circuit comprising a light-emitting diode (LED) and an audible buzzer configured to provide visual and audible signals indicating the presence of AC voltage at the input of the device. The utility model enhances operator safety in electrical laboratory trainers and testing systems by ensuring controlled and intentional power application.
