Abstract

The invention is related to high quality peat composition and a method for the preparation of peat composition with great aeration, high moisture absorption capacity and antibacterial properties, which is free of chemical impurities and ensure seed growth prevention during storage. A composition is suitable for use as animal bedding litter or plant substrate and comprises sphagnum peat moss and wood shavings, wherein the ratio of soft coniferous wood and soft deciduous wood is in the range from 30 / 70% vol / vol to 50 / 50% vol / vol. The sphagnum peat moss is heated to 50-65 °C temperature to ensure seed growth prevention during storage.
