Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a strapping tool including a support comprising a base, a tensioner, a strap connector, and a strap retainer including a body and a retaining foot. The strap retainer is movable relative to the support between a first position and a second position. The strap retainer is configured such that, when overlapping first and second strap layers are positioned between the strap retainer and the base, movement of the strap retainer from the first position to the second position causes the retaining foot to exert a retaining force on a portion of the first strap layer to retain the portion of the first strap layer between the retaining foot and the base.
