Description
Set of removable prostheses and orthodontic aligners for edentulous mandibular regions. OR JAW AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE ASSEMBLY
[001] The present invention pertains to the field of orthodontics and relates to a removable prosthesis that cooperates with orthodontic aligner devices, said prosthesis having been developed more specifically to fill the empty space(s) existing in cases where the patient presents edentulous regions in their dental arch. Additionally, the invention presented here also relates to the manufacturing method and manner of use of said prosthesis.
[002] The present invention aims, basically, to allow edentulous patients to use orthodontic aligners efficiently and safely, mainly as an initial step in treatments for the installation of definitive prostheses to be supported by implants. DESCRIPTION OF THE STATE OF THE ART
[003] As is known to those skilled in the art, orthodontic aligners are devices used to reposition and align teeth, aiming to move them from an initial / existing position to a planned final position, in order to provide better aesthetic and, above all, functional conditions for the patient undergoing treatment. To this end, these aligners – which, for example, can be produced through thermoforming processes of polymeric material plates – are molded based on various models of the patient's dental arch, each model presenting an incremental dental positioning in accordance with a plan previously made using computer graphics tools / CAD / CAM system, until the desired final alignment is achieved. [004] Since the aligners are shaped with progressively altered external profiles to perfectly align the patient's teeth after a certain period of use, their placement - which is done by pressure - ends up "covering" the vestibular and palatal surfaces of the teeth, so that the aligner surface exerts forces of controlled modules in pre-determined locations to promote the necessary movements.
[005] In this respect, it is important to emphasize that the correct application of these forces depends on the juxtaposition of the aligner's internal surfaces to the front and back faces of the teeth, and also on the existence of lateral barriers, which are usually constituted by the adjacent teeth. However, the expected tooth movement from orthodontic aligner treatment is significantly hindered when the dental arches are not complete – that is, when they have empty spaces due to missing teeth. In these cases, the absence of lateral barriers to the teeth adjacent to those to be repositioned can cause a change in the direction of the applied forces and, consequently, in the resulting force of the system, causing the tooth to move towards the area free of resistance and, therefore, in a way different from what was planned.
[006] It is important to remember that in many cases treatment with aligners is used to eliminate diastemas (small spaces between adjacent teeth), but the present invention is intended for cases where there are edentulous areas (of one or more adjacent teeth) in which it is intended to subsequently install implant-supported prostheses. [007] Document EP2296575 exemplifies a dental arch situation with edentulous areas, describing aligners (A) designed to enable the placement of implants and / or allow easy access to them during the osseointegration period. To this end, in these areas the aligners (A) have recesses that form lateral walls (P) that are adjacent to neighboring teeth and, in this way, end up restricting the dissipation of forces. Furthermore, for aesthetic reasons, this document stipulates that the aligners (A) contain tooth-like elements (E) to camouflage / hide the edentulous regions during the implant osseointegration period (see attached Fig. 1). These elements can be molded with the aligner's own polymeric material and can be filled with solid materials.The document states that all aligners in the treatment kit must have the portions corresponding to the edentulous areas filled with such solid materials, therefore requiring complementary post-manufacturing procedures that are significantly laborious, time-consuming, and expensive.
[008] Document US8777611 discloses an aligner (A) containing cavities (C) to individually coat each tooth, also having cavities (CE) for edentulous areas in order to promote a final aesthetically more favorable presentation for the patient, since it simulates the presence of teeth in these areas. However, each aligner device (A) necessary for the completion of the treatment has the frontal or vestibular face of the edentulous areas constituted by a double wall (PD) inside which a material (M) is subsequently injected which, after drying, becomes solid and must have Petition 870260021301, dated 09 / 03 / 2026, page 14 / 61 4 / 16 similar coloration to the patient's other teeth. [009] Document US6572372 also deals with the use of aligners (A) in combination with other orthodontic elements, and in one embodiment presented the aligner (A) is provided with tooth-shaped cavities (CV) intended to cover the “gaps” of edentulous regions and, in order to conceal the presence of these gaps, the surfaces of said cavities (CV) are treated to become opaque (SO) after the aligners (A) are molded, as shown in Fig. 3 - however, in this case, there is a great risk that the opaque surface will be visually different from the adjacent teeth, causing an inadequate aesthetic effect.
[0010] Additionally, document US2008 / 0138767 provides for the use of films (F; see Figs. 4 and 4.1) made with biocompatible materials to be applied to the surface portions of the aligners (A) that cover the edentulous regions; however, there is a high probability that the color of said films (F) will not correspond to the color of the other teeth, which may also compromise the user's aesthetics. Therefore, as with the other documents cited, the two solutions now disclosed also require manual procedures that must be performed after the impression of all the aligners in the treatment, thus increasing the final production costs.
[0011] It is noted, therefore, that the current state of the art lacks Petition 870260021301, dated 09 / 03 / 2026, page 15 / 61 5 / 16 solutions to conceal the existence of, and fill edentulous areas when using orthodontic aligners, such solutions ideally should (i) not require physical manipulation of the aligners in a treatment kit after the impression stage, (ii) be usable with all aligners in a treatment kit, i.e., be interchangeable between them, and (iii) assist in the correct application of the forces necessary for the desired final tooth movement. OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION
[0012] The present invention therefore aims to present a versatile, economical and effective solution for users seeking to restore their dental structure through prostheses and implants but who will technically need aligners beforehand for ideal positioning of existing teeth. Therefore, the invention aims to address the existence of edentulous areas in aligner users. It also aims to present a solution for patients who have edentulous areas in their dental arch and who, after completing orthodontic treatment, intend to have dental implants (permanent prostheses) placed in said edentulous areas.
[0013] Thus, one of the main objectives of the present invention is to disclose a removable provisional / temporary prosthesis which, when attached to the aligner in a position corresponding to that of the edentulous region, conceals the absence of teeth, thus providing an adequate aesthetic presentation of the user's dentition.
[0014] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a prosthesis for orthodontic aligners that is removable and repositionable – that is, it can be removed from the device whenever necessary for cleaning and, additionally, can be used with all aligners in a treatment kit without the need for replacement or repositioning.

[0018] Another of the main objectives of the invention is to provide a removable and repositionable prosthesis that is easy to handle for attaching and detaching from the aligner.
[0019] It is also an objective of the invention to disclose the method of manufacturing said removable prosthesis. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0020] The present invention therefore relates to a prosthesis for the edentulous region of the mandible or maxilla, characterized by the fact that it comprises one or more tooth-shaped structures molded in a single piece or sectioned tooth by tooth, such prosthesis simultaneously cooperating in a removable manner: with one or more orthodontic aligner devices, with the space available in the edentulous region, and with the patient's gingiva. [0036] The object of the present invention will now be described and explained in more detail based on the attached drawings, which are merely illustrative and not limiting, since adaptations and modifications available to those skilled in the art can be made without departing from the scope of the claimed protection.
[0037] As previously mentioned, Figures 1 to 4 exemplify current state-of-the-art solutions for the use of orthodontic aligners in mandibles and / or maxillae with edentulous areas located in highly aesthetic regions; however, known solutions fail to provide adequate temporary aesthetic rehabilitation combined with better force distribution. [0038] Figure 5 shows a maxilla 30 with an extensive edentulous frontal portion 31 in which the two central incisors and the two lateral incisors are missing, and for which it is desired to promote the proper alignment of the remaining teeth 32 (canines and molars). Claims
1. Set of removable prostheses and orthodontic aligners for edentulous regions (31) of the mandible or maxilla, characterized in that it comprises: at least one orthodontic aligner (20) configured to be positioned over remaining teeth of a dental arch, each aligner device (20) belonging to an orthodontic treatment kit; at least one removable prosthesis (10) comprising one or more tooth-shaped structures (11) molded in a single piece or sectioned tooth by tooth;wherein the prosthesis (10) is configured to cooperate in a removable and repositionable manner with at least one orthodontic aligner (20) and with the patient's gum (33), occupying the available space in the edentulous region (31), so as to simultaneously: (i) conceal the missing tooth for aesthetic purposes, and (ii) assist in the correct distribution of orthodontic forces applied by the aligner during treatment, wherein each of the prostheses (10) in the set has dimensions adjusted to the available space in the edentulous region (31), and wherein the prosthesis (10) remains fixed to the aligner (20) by geometric cooperation, allowing coupling by juxtaposition and retention by pressure, and preventing relative movement between the parts during use.
2. Assembly according to claim 1, characterized in that each of the prostheses (10) of the assembly comprises one or more handling rods (100).
3. Assembly, according to claim 2, characterized in that the handling rods (100) are integral to one of: an upper end of a palatal face (12) of the prosthesis Petition 870260021301, dated 09 / 03 / 2026, page 28 / 61 2 / 3 (10), a lower end cooperating with a maxillary floor, an interface region with the gingiva, or mesial / distal regions for the prostheses (10) of posterior positions.

6. Set, according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the prosthesis (10) is removable from the aligner (20) and reusable in another aligner (20) belonging to the same orthodontic treatment kit.
