Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a thermal management system for a vehicle, and more particularly, to a thermal management system that achieves cooling and internal heating of a high-voltage battery while minimizing energy waste. Background Art
[0002] Since electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles are driven by motors instead of engines, it is important to ensure the capacity of the high-voltage battery. As the capacity of the high-voltage battery increases and the charging time decreases, the demand for cooling the high-voltage battery during fast charging increases. However, in order to improve the profit margin of electric vehicles, it is necessary to reduce costs. In addition, power consumption may be too high during interior heating.
[0003] In particular, in winter or under colder ambient temperature conditions, when the temperature of the high-voltage battery is low at startup, the battery is heated. However, when the temperature of the high-voltage battery becomes equal to or higher than a certain temperature (e.g., about 20 to 25°C), since the amount of charging current increases rapidly to increase the calorific value of the battery, the high-voltage battery needs to be cooled. Therefore, internal heating and cooling of the high-voltage battery are required. Since the cooling and internal heating of the high-voltage battery require high energy consumption, a technology for appropriately performing cooling and internal heating of the high-voltage battery to reduce energy consumption is required.
[0004] The contents disclosed in this section are only intended to deepen the understanding of the general background technology of the present invention, and should not be regarded as admitting or suggesting in any form that these contents constitute the prior art already known to the relevant technical personnel. [0032] Figures 1 to 10 is a view illustrating operation of each mode of a thermal management system for a vehicle according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[0033] The thermal management system for a vehicle according to the present invention may include an interior air conditioning device 500, a refrigerator 300, a first pipeline 100, a second pipeline 200, and a controller 400; the interior air conditioning device 500 has a blower 510, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) core 520, and a door for introducing external air of the vehicle to cool the HVAC core 520 during operation of the blower and discharging the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the interior space or the outside of the vehicle; the refrigerator 300 is configured to cool the first refrigerant and the second refrigerant. Heat exchange is performed between the two refrigerants; the first pipeline 100 includes a first pump 120 and guides the first refrigerant to circulate sequentially through the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110 and the HVAC core 520; the second pipeline 200 guides the second refrigerant to circulate sequentially through the compressor 220, the condenser 210 and the refrigerator 300; the controller 400 is configured to operate the blower 510, the first pump 120 and the compressor 220 when cooling of the high-voltage battery is required, based on the external temperature of the vehicle and whether interior air conditioning is required.
[0034] In the present invention, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110 for heat exchange with the high-voltage battery may be configured to cool and heat the high-voltage battery. A first refrigerant (which is cooling water) may flow through the high-voltage battery cooling core 110, and the refrigerator 300 may be configured to cool the first refrigerant. The refrigerator 300 may work as a heat exchanger to exchange heat between the two refrigerants flowing therein. At the same time, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110 may be connected to the battery radiator 720 to perform cooling.
[0035] A main radiator (also known as an electrical component radiator) 630 can be used to cool the electrical components 610 of the vehicle, such as a motor, an inverter, or a charger. In other words, the main radiator 630 of the present invention can be an electrical component radiator as shown in the figure. In addition, the interior air conditioning device 500 for interior air conditioning can be configured to selectively introduce interior air or exterior air of the vehicle. A blower 510 and an HVAC core can be provided so that the air passing through the HVAC core 520 can flow to the door 530 through the blower 510. The door 530 can discharge the air passing through the HVAC core 520 to the outside of the vehicle or the interior space of the vehicle.
[0036] Specifically, the refrigerator 300 can operate as a heat exchanger to exchange heat between the first refrigerant and the second refrigerant. The first pipeline 100 may include a first pump 120, and may guide the first refrigerant to circulate sequentially through the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110, and the HVAC core 520. The second pipeline 200 may guide the second refrigerant to circulate sequentially through the compressor 220, the condenser 210, and the refrigerator 300. The HVAC core 520 may be a heater core of the interior air conditioning device 500. The first pipeline 100 may include an electric heater, such as a water heater arranged between the HVAC core 520 and the high-voltage battery cooling core 110. The first refrigerant may be cooling water, and the second refrigerant may be an air conditioning refrigerant.
[0037] The first bypass line 700 may branch from a downstream point of the high-voltage battery cooling core 110 and an upstream point of the refrigerator 300 of the first line, and may guide the first refrigerant to flow to the heat exchanger 710. The third line 750 may branch from upstream and downstream points of the heat exchanger 710 to guide the first refrigerant to flow to the battery radiator 720. The fourth line 600 may guide the third refrigerant to flow to the main radiator 630 and then to the heat exchanger 710, so that heat may be exchanged between the first refrigerant and the third refrigerant. The controller 400 may be configured to operate components including the blower 510, the first pump 120, and the compressor 220 based on the external temperature of the vehicle and whether interior air conditioning is required when cooling of the high-voltage battery is required.
[0038] In the following, reference will be made to Figures 1 to 10 A method of performing cooling and internal heating of a high voltage battery according to circumstances is described. For example, it is assumed that an external temperature of about 10°C or higher is a high temperature standard, an external temperature of about 0 to 10°C is a mild standard, an external temperature of about -10 to 0°C is a low temperature standard, and an external temperature of about -10°C or lower is an extremely low temperature standard.
[0039] First, when the external temperature meets the high temperature standard, the high voltage battery needs to be cooled and the internal heating is not required, the controller 400 can be configured to perform the following steps: Figure 1 The control shown. In other words, the compressor 220 can be operated so that the second refrigerant (which is the air-conditioning refrigerant) circulates through the compressor 220, the condenser 210, the expansion valve 230, and the refrigerator 300, thereby cooling the refrigerator 300. By operating the valve 730 and the pump 740, the first refrigerant (which is cooling water) can flow through the heat exchanger 710 through the mixing chamber 150, the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110, and the first bypass line 700. Therefore, the refrigerator 300 can be cooled and the cooling water can be cooled in the refrigerator 300, and then the high-voltage battery can be cooled through the high-voltage battery cooling core 110.
[0040] In addition, when the external temperature meets the high temperature criteria, the high voltage battery needs to be cooled and the internal heating is required, the controller can be configured to perform the following operations: Figure 2 The control shown. The controller 400 can be configured to operate the compressor 220 and cool the refrigerator 300. The controller can be configured to operate valves 140 and 730 and the pump 120 so that the first refrigerant flows through the first pipeline 100, operate the blower 510 and adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the interior space. The first refrigerant cooled in the refrigerator 300 can cool the high-voltage battery, and the heated first refrigerant can flow into the refrigerator 300 again after being cooled by the HVAC core 520, thereby improving energy efficiency. In addition, the air that has passed through the HVAC core 520 can be used for interior heating to prevent the need for additional energy for heating. In other words, the electric heater 130 may not be operated.
[0041] Additionally, when the external temperature meets the mild criteria, cooling of the high voltage battery is required and internal heating is not required, the controller can be configured to perform the following operations: Figure 3 Specifically, the controller 400 may be configured to operate the compressor 220 and the blower 510, guide the first refrigerant to flow through the first line 100, and adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the outside of the vehicle. In other words, since heating is not required, the HVAC core 520 only dissipates the heat of the first refrigerant and discharges the air that has passed through the HVAC core 520 to the outside.
[0042] When the external temperature meets the mild criteria, the high voltage battery needs to be cooled and the interior heating is required, the controller can be configured to perform the following operations: Figure 2 In other words, the controller 400 may be configured to operate the compressor 220 and the blower 510, guide the first refrigerant to flow through the first line 100, and adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the interior space.
[0043] When the outside temperature meets the mild standard, the high-voltage battery needs to be cooled and the interior needs to be heated, and when the temperature of the first refrigerant is equal to or greater than the set temperature, such as Figure 4 As shown, the valve 140 can be adjusted so that the first refrigerant is divided into a pipeline consisting of the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110 and the first bypass line 700 and a pipeline consisting of the first pump 120, the HVAC core 520 and the second bypass line 160, and the first refrigerant is circulated through the pipeline consisting of the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110 and the first bypass line 700 and the pipeline consisting of the first pump 120, the HVAC core 520 and the second bypass line 160. In addition, the electric heater 130 can be operated to perform interior heating. In the second bypass line 160, the first refrigerant flowing through the HVAC core 520 in the first line 100 can circulate through the electric heater 130 and the HVAC core 520 while bypassing the refrigerator 300 and the high-voltage battery cooling core 110.
[0044] At the same time, when the external temperature meets the low temperature standard, the high voltage battery needs to be cooled and the internal heating is not required, the controller can be configured to perform the following Figure 5 In particular, the controller 400 may be configured to operate the compressor 220 and the blower 510, guide the first refrigerant to flow through the first line 100 and the first bypass line 700, operate the pump 640 and the valve 620 to circulate the third refrigerant through the main radiator 630 and the heat exchanger 710, and adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the outside of the vehicle. Therefore, the cooling water may pass through the chiller 300 after its heat is dissipated directly or indirectly through the HVAC core 520 and the main radiator 630, thereby improving energy efficiency.
[0045] In addition, when the external temperature meets the low temperature criteria, the high voltage battery needs to be cooled and the internal heating is required, the controller can be configured to perform the following operations: Figure 6 The controller 400 may be configured to adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the interior space. In addition, when the temperature of the first refrigerant is equal to or higher than the set temperature, the controller 400 may be configured to adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the interior space. Figure 7 In particular, the controller may be configured to perform control so that the first refrigerant is divided into a line consisting of the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110, and the first bypass line 700 and a line consisting of the first pump 120, the HVAC core 520, and the second bypass line 160, and the first refrigerant is circulated through a line consisting of the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110, and the first bypass line 700 and a line consisting of the first pump 120, the HVAC core 520, and the second bypass line 160. In addition, the electric heater 130 may be operated to perform interior heating.
[0046] Additionally, when the external temperature meets the extremely low temperature criteria, cooling of the high voltage battery is required and internal heating is not required, the controller can be configured to perform the following operations: Figure 8 In particular, the controller 400 may be configured to operate the blower 510, direct the first refrigerant to flow through the first line 100 and the first bypass line 700, direct the third refrigerant to circulate between the main radiator 630 and the heat exchanger 710, and adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the outside of the vehicle.
[0047] In addition, when the external temperature meets the extremely low temperature criteria, the high voltage battery needs to be cooled and the internal heating is required, the controller can perform the following operations: Fig. 9 The controller 400 may be configured to adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the interior space. In addition, when the temperature of the first refrigerant is equal to or higher than the set temperature, the controller 400 may be configured to adjust the door 530 to discharge the air flowing through the HVAC core 520 to the interior space. Fig.10 In particular, the controller 400 may be configured to perform control so that the first refrigerant is divided into a line consisting of the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110, and the first bypass line 700 and a line consisting of the first pump 120, the HVAC core 520, and the second bypass line 160, and the first refrigerant is circulated through a line consisting of the refrigerator 300, the high-voltage battery cooling core 110, and the first bypass line 700 and a line consisting of the first pump 120, the HVAC core 520, and the second bypass line 160. In addition, the electric heater 130 may be operated to perform interior heating.
[0048] When the high-voltage battery needs to be cooled, the controller 400 may be configured to operate the compressor 220 under high temperature conditions, mild conditions, and low temperature conditions, and may not operate the compressor 220 under extremely low temperature conditions (e.g., stop operating the compressor 220). When the high-voltage battery needs to be cooled, the controller 400 may be configured to: operate the compressor 220 and the blower 510 under low temperature conditions and guide the third refrigerant to circulate between the main radiator 630 and the heat exchanger 710.
[0049] According to the thermal management system for a vehicle of the present invention, it is possible to achieve cooling and internal heating of a high-voltage battery while minimizing energy waste.
