[0054] A manner of implementing the present technology will be described below. The description will be made in the following order.

[0055] 1. Embodiment

[0056] 2. Modification

[0057] 3. Others

[0058] <<1. Embodiment>>

[0059] First, referring to Figures 1-30 , an embodiment of the present technology will be described.

[0060] <Configuration Example of Information Processing System 10>

[0061] Figure 1 A configuration example of an information processing system 10 to which the present technology is applicable will be described.

[0062] The information processing system 10 includes a server 11, a client 12, and a network 13. The client 12 includes a personal computer (PC) 21, a detachable medium 22, an electronic device 23a, and an electronic device 23b.

[0063] The server 11 and the PC 21 are connected via the network 13 and communicate with each other.

[0064] The server 11 provides and manages a license (floating license) of a function used in the electronic devices 23a and 23b, and performs provision of software for realizing the function of the electronic device 23a and the electronic device 23b, and the like.

[0065] The PC 21 communicates with the server 11 via the network 13 to exchange various data with the server 11. For example, the PC 21 receives data related to licenses of functions used in the electronic devices 23a and 23b, and various data such as software used in the electronic devices 23a and 23b, from the server 11. In addition, the PC 21 transmits various data such as data related to the electronic devices 23a and 23b, to the server 11.

[0066] The detachable medium 22 includes a magnetic disk, an optical disk, a magneto-optical disk, a semiconductor memory, or the like, and is used to exchange various data between the PC 21 and the electronic devices 23a and 23b. Note that the detachable medium 22 can be a general detachable medium or a detachable medium having a security function.

[0067] Note that hereinafter, the detachable medium 22 is simply referred to as the medium 22.

[0068] The electronic devices 23a and 23b are difficult to connect to the network 13, and are basically not directly in communication with the server 11, and are used offline. In addition, by installing a license provided from the server 11 via the medium 22, the electronic devices 23a and 23b can use a function corresponding to the installed license. Further, the electronic devices 23a and 23b return a license provided from the server 11 to the server 11 via the medium 22 and the PC 21 when necessary.

[0069] Note that hereinafter, the electronic devices 23a and 23b are simply referred to as the electronic devices 23 without separately distinguishing the electronic devices 23a and 23b.

[0070] Further, the type of the electronic devices 23 is not particularly limited. Hereinafter, a case where the electronic devices 23 are cameras will be mainly described as an example.

[0071] Further, the type of the function which is an object of the license provided by the server 11 is not particularly limited. For example, the function does not necessarily have to be a function using software, and can be a function realized only by hardware.

[0072] Further, the server 11 can also provide software for realizing the function which is an object of the license. In this case, the license of the function is also a license of the software for realizing the function.

[0073] Further, although the server 11 is illustrated as a single server in the above description, the server 11 can be a plurality of servers. Figure 1Only one client 12 is illustrated, but a plurality of clients 12 can be provided in practice. Furthermore, although only one server 11 is illustrated, a plurality of servers 11 can be provided. Furthermore, one client 12 can include a plurality of PCs 21 and / or media 22, or can include two or more electronic devices 23.

[0089] The communication control unit 154 controls communication processing by the communication unit 103. Further, the communication control unit 154 acquires data to be transmitted to the PC 21 from each unit of the server 11, and provides data received from the PC 21 to each unit of the server 11.

[0090] The storage control unit 155 controls storage of data and the like related to licenses of functions used in the electronic device 23 in the storage unit 106.

[0091] <Configuration example of the electronic device 23>

[0092] Figure 4 A configuration example of the electronic device 23 is illustrated.

[0093] The electronic device 23 includes an input unit 201, a function execution unit 202, a control unit 203, a communication unit 204, an output unit 205, a real-time clock (RTC) 206, a storage unit 207, and a drive 208. [0101] The drive 208 can be separated from the medium 22, and drives the connected medium 22.

[0102] Note that, hereinafter, in a case where each unit of the electronic device 23 exchanges data or the like via the bus 221, the description of the bus 221 will be appropriately omitted. For example, in a case where the control unit 203 and the communication unit 204 exchange data via the bus 221, it is simply described that the control unit 203 and the communication unit 204 exchange data.

[0103] <Configuration example of the function of the control unit 203>

[0108] The UI control unit 254 controls the output unit 205, thereby controlling a user interface in the electronic device 23.

[0109] The communication control unit 255 controls communication processing by the communication unit 204. Further, the communication control unit 255 acquires data to be transmitted to the outside via the communication unit 204 from each unit of the electronic device 23, and provides data received from the outside via the communication unit 204 to each unit of the electronic device 23.

[0110] The storage control unit 256 controls storage in the storage unit 207 of data and the like related to a license of a function used in the electronic device 23.

[0111] <Process of the information processing system 10>

[0112] Next, the process of the information processing system 10 will be described with reference to Figures 6-32

[0113] Note that, hereinafter, an example of a case where a license of a certain function is first installed in the electronic device 23a, and then the license of the function is transferred to the electronic device 23b will be described.

[0114] <License acquisition process>

[0115] Referring first to Figure 6 a flowchart, the license acquisition process performed by the client 12 will be described.

[0116] In step S1, the PC 21 requests a device information acquisition file.

[0117] For example, the PC 21, in accordance with an operation by the user, accesses the server 11 via the network 13 and displays a screen for acquiring a license for a function to be used in the electronic device 23a. For example, a window 301 of Figure 7 is displayed on the screen of the PC 21.

[0118] The window 301 is divided into a device information column 301A and a license information column 301B.

[0119] At the left end of the device information column 301A, an image and a model name of the electronic device 23a are displayed side by side.

[0120] At the left end of the license information column 301B, a function for which a license is to be acquired and a type of license are indicated. In this example, a floating license for a 4K image capturing function with a valid period of 7 days is illustrated as being acquired. Note that as an acquisition target, a floating license with two or more valid periods can be displayed so as to enable selection of a floating license with a desired valid period.

[0121] At the right end of the license information column 301B, an installation button 302 is displayed. When the installation button 302 is pressed, a window 311 of Figure 8 is displayed on the screen of the PC 21, for example.

[0122] The window 311 displays a message prompting downloading of the device information acquisition file, saving the device information acquisition file in the medium 22, and inserting the medium 22 into the device (the electronic device 23a), and a download button 312. When the download button 312 is pressed, the PC 21 requests the device information acquisition file from the server 11 via the network 13.

[0123] In response thereto, the server 11 transmits the device information acquisition file to the PC 21 via the network 13 in step S31 in Figure 13 described later.

[0124] In step S2, the PC 21 receives the device information acquisition file transmitted from the server 11. Further, the PC 21, for example, in accordance with an operation by the user, stores the received device information acquisition file in the medium 22.

[0125] In step S3, the electronic device 23a executes the command in the device information acquisition file.

[0126] Specifically, the user takes out the medium 22 storing the device information acquisition file from the PC 21, and connects the medium 22 to the drive 208 of the electronic device 23a.

[0127] The drive 208 reads the device information acquisition file stored in the medium 22, and supplies the device information acquisition file to the control unit 203. The control unit 203 executes the device information acquisition command contained in the device information acquisition file. Thus, the acquisition processing of the device information is started.

[0128] Note that, for example, the processing of steps S1 to S3 can be omitted, and the acquisition processing of the device information can be started by the user operating the electronic device 23a without using the device information acquisition command.

[0129] In step S4, the key generation unit 252 determines whether the device unique key is generated. In a case where the device unique key is not stored in the storage unit 207, the key generation unit 252 determines that the device unique key is not generated, and the processing proceeds to step S5.

[0130] In step S5, the key generation unit 252 generates the device unique key. The method of generating the device unique key is not particularly limited. The storage control unit 256 stores the device unique key in the storage unit 207.

[0131] That is, the electronic device 23a generates the device unique key which is a secret key unique to the electronic device 23a before the device information file is generated for the first time after the shipment of the electronic device 23a. Thus, it is not necessary to generate the device unique key at the time of shipment and store the device unique key in the electronic device 23a, and thus the risk such as leakage of the device unique key is reduced. Further, for example, by changing the firmware or the like of the electronic device 23a, it is possible to change the method of generating the device unique key, the generation timing, and the like, and thus the flexibility is improved.

[0132] After that, the processing proceeds to step S6.

[0133] On the other hand, in step S4, in a case where the device unique key is stored in the storage unit 207, the key generation unit 252 determines that the device unique key is generated, and skips the processing of step S5, and the processing proceeds to step S6.

[0134] In step S6, the electronic device 23a generates the device information file.

[0135] Specifically, the data generating unit 253 reads the device-specific key and the server public key from the storage unit 207. Note that the server public key is a public key corresponding to the server secret key held by the server 11, and is distributed in advance to the electronic device 23a. The data generating unit 253 encrypts the device-specific key using the server public key. Thereby, the security of the device-specific key is ensured, and tampering, theft, and the like of the device-specific key are prevented.

[0136] Further, the data generating unit 253 reads the firmware version and the device-specific ID from the storage unit 207. The firmware version is the version of the firmware currently installed in the electronic device 23a. The device-specific ID is an ID uniquely assigned to each electronic device 23, and includes, for example, the model name and the serial number of the electronic device 23a. The data generating unit 253 generates storage data containing the model name of the electronic device 23a, the firmware version, the device-specific ID, and the encrypted device-specific key.

[0137] Further, the data generating unit 253 calculates a hash value of the storage data using the device-specific key. Note that the hash function used to calculate the hash value is not particularly limited.

[0138] Subsequently, the data generating unit 253 generates a device information file containing the storage data and the hash value. Thereby, the security of the storage data is ensured using the device-specific key.

[0139] The information contained in the device information file is used for license issuance in the server 11 as license request information for requesting license issuance.

[0140] In step S7, the data generating unit 253 stores the device information file in the medium 22 via the driver 208.

[0141] At this time, for example, the output unit 205 displays the window 321 of Figure 9 under the control of the UI control unit 254. In the window 321, a message notifying that the device information file has been written and an OK button 322 are displayed. When the OK button 322 is pressed, the window 321 is closed.

[0142] In step S8, the PC 21 transmits the device information file to the server 11.

[0143] For example, the user takes out the medium 22 from the electronic device 23a, and connects to the PC 21. For example, the PC 21 displays the window 331 of Figure 10 on the screen.

[0144] In window 331, a message prompting to upload a device information file obtained from the device (electronic device 23a) and an upload button 332 are displayed. When the upload button 332 is pressed, PC 21 reads the device information file from medium 22 and sends the device information file to server 11 via network 13.

[0145] On the other hand, server 11 will be explained later. Figure 13 In step S32, device file information is received.

[0146] In step S9, PC 21 determines whether to obtain the installation request file.

[0147] If the device information file received from PC 21 is deemed valid, server 11 will proceed as described later. Figure 13 In step S34, a display control file for final confirmation of the implementation of license installation is sent via network 13.

[0148] PC 21 displays on the screen based on the display control file. Figure 11 Window 341.

[0149] Window 341 displays the remaining license period, a message asking whether to issue an installation key for the device (electronic device 23a), the model name of electronic device 23a, the serial number of electronic device 23a, and a "Yes" button 342. When the "Yes" button 342 is pressed, for example, the screen of PC 21 displays... Figure 12 Window 351.

[0150] Note that the remaining period of the license in window 341 is equal to the initial value of the license's validity period (hereinafter referred to as the maximum validity period) because the use of the license has not yet begun.

[0151] In window 351, a message is displayed prompting the user to download the installation request file, save the installation request file to medium 22, and insert medium 22 into the device (electronic device 23a), along with a download button 352. Subsequently, when the download button 352 is pressed, PC 21 determines that the installation request file has been obtained and requests the server 11 to send the installation request file via network 13. Afterwards, the process proceeds to step S10.

[0152] In response to this, as explained below Figure 13 In step S39, server 11 sends an installation request file containing an installation key and other information, as well as license communication information for license installation.

[0153] In step S10, PC 21 receives the installation request file from server 11 via network 13.

[0154] In step Sll, the PC 21 stores the installation request file in the medium 22, for example, in accordance with the user's operation.

[0155] After that, the license acquisition processing is ended.

[0156] On the other hand, in step S9, in a case where the display control file for the final confirmation of the implementation of the license installation is not received, or in a case where the acquisition of the installation request file is not instructed, the PC 21 determines not to acquire the installation request file. After that, the processing of steps S10 and Sll is skipped, the installation request file is not acquired, and then the license acquisition processing is ended.

[0157] <License issuance processing>

[0158] Next, with reference to the flowchart of Figure 13 , the license acquisition processing by the client 12 in response to Figure 6 , the license issuance processing performed by the server 11 will be described.

[0159] Note that, for example, when the device information acquisition file is requested from the server 11 by the PC 21 in step S1 in the above-described Figure 6 , the processing is started.

[0160] In step S31, the server 11 transmits the device information acquisition file. Specifically, the data generation unit 152 generates the device information acquisition file including the device information acquisition command. The communication unit 103 transmits the device information acquisition file to the PC 21 via the network 13 under the control of the communication control unit 154.

[0161] Note that, as described above, by omitting the processing of steps S1 to S3 in the above-described Figure 6 , the processing of step S31 can be omitted.

[0162] In step S32, the server 11 receives the device information file. Specifically, the communication control unit 154 receives the device information file transmitted from the PC 21 in the processing of step S8 in the above-described Figure 6 via the communication unit 103.

[0163] In step S33, the license management unit 151 determines whether the device information file is valid. Specifically, the license management unit 151 reads the server secret key corresponding to the server public key used for encrypting the device unique key included in the device information file from the storage unit 106. The license management unit 151 decrypts the device unique key using the read server secret key.

[0164] Next, the license management unit 151 calculates the hash value of the storage data contained in the device information file by using the same hash function as that of the electronic device 23a and the decrypted device-specific key. Subsequently, in a case where the calculated hash value coincides with the hash value in the device information file, the license management unit 151 determines that the device information file is valid, and the process proceeds to step S34.

[0165] Thus, tampering of the device-specific ID and the device-specific key in the storage data is prevented.

[0166] In step S34, the license management unit 151 determines whether or not to transmit the installation request file.

[0167] Specifically, the UI control unit 153 generates a display control file for final confirmation of implementation of license installation. The display control file includes information indicating the remaining period of the license. Note that the remaining period of the license is equal to the maximum valid period of the license because use of the license has not started. The communication unit 103 transmits the display control file to the PC 21 via the network 13 under the control of the communication control unit 154.

[0168] Subsequently, when transmission of the installation request file is requested from the PC 21 in step S9 described above, the license management unit 151 determines to transmit the installation request file, and the process proceeds to step S35. Figure 6

[0169] In step S35, the license management unit 151 sets the valid period of the license and the use start date and time. Specifically, because use of the license has not started, the license management unit 151 sets the valid period of the license to the maximum valid period. Further, the license management unit 151 sets the current date and time of the RTC 105 as the use start date and time of the license (hereinafter referred to as the server use start date and time).

[0170] Subsequently, the license management unit 151 responds to return of the license from the electronic device 23a and provision of the returned license to an electronic device (for example, the electronic device 23b) before the date and time of the RTC 105 elapse the set valid period from the set server use start date and time.

[0171] In step S36, the license management unit 151 generates an installation key.

[0172] Figure 14 An example of the format of the installation key is illustrated.

[0173] The installation key includes a function ID, an installation key management ID, a device-specific ID, a use start date and time, and a valid period.

[0174] The function ID is an ID for identifying a function that is the object of the license and the effective period.

[0175] The installation key management ID is an ID that is shorter in data length than the installation key and is unique to the installation key (different for each installation key). The installation key management ID makes it possible to identify the installation key corresponding to the license of each function.

[0176] The device unique ID is a device unique ID of the electronic device 23a to which the license is to be provided, using the device unique ID of the electronic device 23a contained in the device information.

[0177] The server use start date and time set in the processing of step S35 is set as the server use start date and time.

[0178] The effective period set in the processing of step S35 is set as the effective period.

[0179] In step S37, the server 11 stores the license management information. The license management unit 151 generates, for example, license management information containing the installation key, the device unique ID, the device unique key, the installation key management ID, the server use start date and time, and the effective period. The storage control unit 155 stores the license management information in the storage unit 106.

[0180] In step S38, the data generation unit 152 generates the installation request file.

[0181] Specifically, the data generation unit 152 generates storage data containing the model name and the device unique ID of the electronic device 23a, the function ID of the function that is the object of the license, the installation key for installing the license, and the installation key management ID corresponding to the installation key.

[0182] Next, the data generation unit 152 generates a signature of the storage data using the server secret key. Specifically, the data generation unit 152 calculates a hash value of the storage data using the same hash function as the electronic device 23a. Subsequently, the data generation unit 152 generates the signature by encrypting the hash value using the server secret key.

[0183] Next, the data generation unit 152 generates the installation request file containing the storage data and the signature (encrypted hash value). Thus, the security of the storage data is ensured by using the server secret key.

[0184] Note that the installation request file is also an installation file for installing the license in the electronic device 23a.

[0185] In step S39, the communication unit 103 transmits the installation request file to the PC 21 under the control of the communication control unit 154.

[0186] After that, the license issuance processing is ended.

[0187] On the other hand, in step S34, when the transmission of the installation request file is not requested from the PC 21 in step S9 of the above-described Figure 6 , the license management unit 151 determines not to transmit the installation request file, skips the processing of steps S35 to S39, and ends the license issuance processing. That is, the generation of the installation key and the transmission of the installation request file are not performed.

[0188] Further, in step S33, when the calculated hash value does not coincide with the hash value in the device information file, the license management unit 151 determines that the device information file is invalid, skips the processing of steps S34 to S39, and ends the license issuance processing. That is, the generation of the installation key and the transmission of the installation request file are not performed.

[0189] <License start processing>

[0190] The license start processing performed by the electronic device 23a will be described below with reference to the flowchart of Figure 15 .

[0191] For example, when the medium 22 storing the installation request file is connected to the drive 208 of the electronic device 23a in the processing of step Sll of Figure 6 , the output unit 205 displays the window 401 of Figure 16 under the control of the UI control unit 254.

[0192] In the window 401, the model name of the electronic device 23a, the function ID, the remaining period of the license, and a message for confirming whether or not to enable the function are displayed. Note that the remaining period of the license is equal to the maximum valid period of the license because the use of the license has not started. Further, the "Yes" button 402 and the "No" button 403 are displayed in the window 401. Subsequently, in the case where the "Yes" button 402 is pressed, the license start processing is started. On the other hand, in the case where the "No" button 403 is pressed, the license start processing is not started.

[0193] In step S61, the license management unit 251 determines whether or not the installation request file is valid. Specifically, the license management unit 251 reads the installation request file from the medium 22 via the drive 208. Further, the license management unit 251 reads the server public key from the storage unit 207.

[0194] The license management unit 251 decrypts the signature included in the installation request file using the server public key. Thereby, the hash value of the storage data included in the installation request file is obtained. Further, the license management unit 251 calculates the hash value of the storage data of the installation request file using the same hash function as the server 11. Subsequently, in a case where the calculated hash value coincides with the hash value in the installation request file, the license management unit 251 determines that the installation request file is valid, and the process proceeds to step S62.

[0195] Thereby, tampering of the installation key in the storage data or the like is prevented.

[0196] In step S62, the license management unit 251 determines whether the device unique ID in the installation key coincides with the device unique ID of the own device. In a case where the device unique ID in the installation key coincides with the device unique ID of the electronic device 23a stored in the storage unit 207, the license management unit 251 determines that the device unique ID in the installation key coincides with the device unique ID of the own device, and the process proceeds to step S63.

[0197] Thereby, installation of the license using the installation key for another electronic device 23a is prevented.

[0198] In step S63, the license management unit 251 determines whether the installation key is an installation key of a past installation. In a case where the installation information including the installation key management ID coinciding with the installation key management ID included in the installation request file is not stored in the storage unit 207, the license management unit 251 determines that the installation key is not an installation key of a past installation, and the process proceeds to step S64.

[0199] Thereby, double installation of the license by using the installation key of a past installation is prevented.

[0200] In step S64, the license management unit 251 makes the license valid for the valid period. Specifically, the license management unit 251 sets the current date and time of the RTC 206 as the use start date and time of the license (hereinafter referred to as the client use start date and time).

[0201] Note that the client use start date and time does not necessarily coincide with the server use start date and time set in the server 11. Specifically, from when the server 11 sets the server use start date and time in the license, the client use start date and time can be set after the server use start date and time. Figure 13When the valid period (maximum valid period) is set in the process of step S35 in the server 11 and until the electronic device 23b makes the license valid in the process of step S264, a time lag (hereinafter referred to as installation required time) occurs. Thus, even if the RTC 105 of the server 11 coincides with the RTC 206 of the electronic device 23a, there is a difference between the server use start date and time and the client use start date and time due to the installation required time.

[0202] Subsequently, the license management unit 251 makes the function permitted by the installation key available based on the client use start date and time until the valid period indicated in the installation key elapses.

[0203] Thus, for example, the function corresponding to the license can be used in the electronic device 23a for the maximum valid period regardless of the installation required time.

[0204] Note that software for implementing the function can be installed in the electronic device 23a in advance or can be installed in the electronic device 23a at this time.

[0205] In step S65, the electronic device 23a stores the license information. For example, the license management unit 251 generates license information containing the installation key, the installation key management ID, the client use start date and time, and the valid period. The storage control unit 256 stores the license information in the storage unit 207.

[0206] In step S66, the electronic device 23a allows confirmation of the remaining period of the license. For example, in a case where an operation for confirming the remaining period of the license is performed via the input unit 201, the license management unit 151 calculates the remaining period of the license based on the license information. For example, the remaining period of the license is calculated by the following formula (1).

[0207] Remaining period of the license in the electronic device 23a = valid period - (date and time of the RTC 206 - client use start date and time)... (1)

[0208] Subsequently, the output unit 205 displays the remaining period of the license under the control of the UI control unit 254.

[0209] After that, the license start processing ends.

[0210] On the other hand, in a case where the installation information including the installation key management ID coinciding with the installation key management ID contained in the installation request file is stored in the storage unit 207 in step S63, the license management unit 251 determines that the installation key is the installation key of the installation performed in the past, and ends the license start processing.

[0211] This is considered to be a case where the installation of the license is attempted again.

[0212] Further, when it is determined in step S62 that the device unique ID in the installation key does not match the device unique ID of the own device, the license start processing is ended.

[0213] This is considered to be a case where, for example, the medium 22 is connected to a different electronic device 23 and the installation of the license is attempted, a case where an incorrect installation request file is received, a case where the installation key is tampered with, and the like.

[0214] Further, in step S61, in a case where the calculated hash value does not match the hash value in the installation request file, the license management unit 251 determines that the installation request file is invalid, and ends the license start processing.

[0215] This is considered to be a case where the installation request file is tampered with, and the like.

[0216] <License Return Processing>

[0217] Next, the license return processing performed by the client 12 will be described with reference to the flowchart of Figure 17 .

[0218] In step S101, the PC 21 requests a DeActivate request file.

[0219] For example, the PC 21 accesses the server 11 via the network 13 in accordance with a user's operation, and displays a screen for returning a license for a function activated in the electronic device 23a. For example, a window 501 of Figure 18 is displayed on the screen of the PC 21.

[0220] The window 501 is divided into a device information column 501A, a license information column 501B, and a license detail information column 501C.

[0221] At the left end of the device information column 501A, an image and a model name of the electronic device 23 are displayed side by side.

[0222] At the left end of the license information column 501B, a function for which a license is to be returned and a type of the license are indicated. In this example, a floating license for the 4K image capturing function with a valid period of 7 days is indicated as being to be returned.

[0223] At the left end of the license detail information column 501C, a device unique ID of the electronic device 23, among the electronic devices 23 owned by the user, for which a function corresponding to the license to be returned can be used, is displayed.

[0224] At the right end of the license detail information field 501C, a deactivation button 502 is displayed for the electronic device 23a for which the license is currently valid. When the deactivation button is pressed, for example, a window 511 of Figure 19 is displayed on the screen of the PC 21.

[0225] In the window 511, a message prompting to download the deactivation request file, store the deactivation request file in the medium 22, and insert the medium 22 into the transfer source device (the electronic device 23a) is displayed, and a download button 512 is displayed. When the download button 512 is pressed, the PC 21 requests the deactivation request file from the server 11 via the network 13.

[0226] In response thereto, the server 11 transmits the deactivation request file to the PC 21 via the network 13 at step S131 in Figure 24 described later.

[0227] At step S102, the PC 21 receives the deactivation request file transmitted from the server 11. Further, the PC 21 stores the received deactivation request file in the medium 22, for example, in accordance with the operation of the user.

[0228] At step S103, the electronic device 23a executes the command in the deactivation request file.

[0229] Specifically, the user takes out the medium 22 storing the deactivation request file from the PC 21, and connects the medium 22 to the drive 208 of the electronic device 23a.

[0230] The drive 208 reads the deactivation request file stored in the medium 22, and supplies the deactivation request file to the control unit 203. The control unit 203 executes the deactivation request command contained in the deactivation request file. Thereby, the output unit 205 displays, for example, under the control of the UI control unit 254, a window 521 of Figure 20 or a window 531 of Figure 21 .

[0231] In the window 521, the current date and time of the device (the electronic device 23a), the model name of the electronic device 23a, the function ID, the valid period of the license, a message indicating that the license is currently valid, and a deactivation button 522 are displayed.

[0232] Note that the current date and time of the device is displayed on the basis of the current date and time of the RTC 206 of the electronic device 23a.

[0233] On the other hand, the effective period is displayed based on the server use start date and time and the effective period included in the installation key of the license to be returned. Specifically, the period from the server use start date and time to the date and time obtained by adding the effective period and the server use start date and time is displayed as the effective period. That is, the effective period is based on the RTC 105 of the server 11.

[0234] Thus, in a case where the date and time of the RTC 105 of the server 11 and the date and time of the RTC 206 of the electronic device 23a do not coincide, as described in the present example, a case can occur in which the current date and time of the device displayed in the window 521 is not included in the effective period of the license.

[0235] In the window 531, the current date and time of the device (the electronic device 23a), the remaining period of the license, the model name of the electronic device 23a, the effective period of the license, and an invalidation button 532 are displayed.

[0236] Note that the current date and time of the device is displayed based on the current date and time of the RTC 206 of the electronic device 23a. As the remaining period of the license, the period calculated based on the RTC 206 of the electronic device 23a by the above-described formula (1) is displayed.

[0237] On the other hand, the effective period is displayed based on the server use start date and time and the effective period included in the installation key of the license to be returned. Specifically, the date and time obtained by adding the effective period and the server use start date and time is displayed as the effective period. That is, the effective period is based on the RTC 105 of the server 11.

[0238] Thus, in a case where the date and time of the RTC 105 of the server 11 and the date and time of the RTC 206 of the electronic device 23a do not coincide, as described in the present example, a case can occur in which the relationship between the current date and time of the device displayed in the window 521 and the remaining period and the effective period of the license do not coincide.

[0239] Note that, for example, the processes of steps S101 to S103 can be omitted, and the user can operate the electronic device 23a without using the deactivation request command to display the window 521 of Figure 20 or the window 531 of Figure 21 on the electronic device 23a, and start the license return process.

[0240] In step S104, the license management unit 251 invalidates the license.

[0241] For example, the user presses the invalidation button 522 of the window 521 of Figure 20 or the invalidation button 532 of the window 531 ofFigure 21 The window 531 has an invalidation button 532. Subsequently, when the invalidation of the license is determined, the license management unit 251 makes this function unavailable.

[0242] In step S105, the data generation unit 253 generates a device information file.

[0243] Specifically, similar to Figure 6 In step S6, the data generation unit 253 encrypts the device-specific key using the server's public key.

[0244] In addition, the data generation unit 253 reads the firmware version, device-specific ID, and installation key management ID of the license to be returned from the storage unit 207. The data generation unit 253 generates stored data containing the model name of the electronic device 23a, firmware version, device-specific ID, encrypted device-specific key, installation key management ID, and information indicating that the license to be returned (corresponding to the installation key management ID).

[0245] In addition, similar to Figure 6 In step S6, the data generation unit 253 uses a device-specific key to calculate the hash value of the stored data and generate a device information file containing the stored data and the hash value.

[0246] The information contained in the device information file serves as license return information for returning the license, and is used in server 11 for returning the license.

[0247] In step S106, similar to Figure 6 In step S7, the device information file is stored on medium 22.

[0248] In step S107, PC 21 sends the device information file to server 11.

[0249] For example, a user removes medium 22 from electronic device 23a and connects it to PC 21. For example, PC 21 displays on the screen... Figure 22 Window 541.

[0250] In window 541, a message prompting to upload a device information file obtained from the device (electronic device 23a) and an upload button 542 are displayed. When the upload button 542 is pressed, PC 21 reads the device information file from medium 22 and sends the device information file to server 11 via network 13.

[0251] In step S108, PC 21 determines whether the deactivation has been completed. (As will be explained later...) Figure 24When the PC 21 receives the device information acquisition file sent from the server 11 in step S138, the PC 21 determines that the deactivation has been completed, and then the process proceeds to step S109.

[0252] In step S109, the PC 21 notifies of the completion of the return of the license. For example, the PC 21 displays a window 551 on the screen Figure 23

[0253] In the window 551, a message notifying that the deactivation has been completed, the remaining period of the license, a message prompting to save the device information acquisition file in the medium 22 and insert the medium 22 into the transfer destination device (the electronic device 23b), and an OK button 552 are displayed. When the OK button 552 is pressed, the window 541 is closed.

[0254] Note that the remaining period of the license displayed in the window 551 is calculated based on the current date and time of the RTC 105 of the server 11 as described later. Thus, as described later, there is a difference between the remaining period displayed in the window 531 and the remaining period displayed in the window 551. Figure 21

[0255] After that, the license return process is ended.

[0256] On the other hand, in step S108, in a case where the device information acquisition file is not received from the server 11, the PC 21 determines that the deactivation has not been completed, skips the process of step S109, and ends the license return process.

[0257] <License Return Response Process>

[0258] Next, with reference to the flowchart of Figure 24 , the license return response process performed by the server 11 in response to the license return process of the client 12 of Figure 17 will be described.

[0259] Note that, for example, when the deactivation request file is requested from the server 11 from the PC 21 in step S101 in the above-described Figure 17 , the process is started.

[0260] In step S131, the server 11 sends the deactivation request file. Specifically, the data generation unit 152 generates the deactivation request file including the deactivation request file command. The communication unit 103 sends the deactivation request file to the PC 21 via the network 13 under the control of the communication control unit 154.

[0261] Note that, as described above, by omitting the process of steps S101 to S103 in the above-described Figure 17 , the process of step S131 can be omitted.

[0262] In step S132, server 11 receives device information file. Specifically, communication control unit 154 receives the aforementioned information file via communication unit 103. Figure 17 The device information file sent from PC 21 in step S107 of the process.

[0263] In step S133, the license management unit 151 determines whether to request the return of the license. If the received device information file contains information indicating that the license should be returned, the license management unit 151 determines that a license return is requested, and the process proceeds to step S134.

[0264] In step S134, the license management unit 151 determines whether the combination of the device-specific ID and the installation key management ID in the device information file matches the stored combination. Specifically, the license management unit 151 searches the license management information stored in the storage unit 106 for license management information where the combination of the device-specific ID and the installation key management ID matches the combination in the device information file. Subsequently, if the corresponding license management information is detected, the license management unit 151 determines that the combination of the device-specific ID and the installation key management ID in the device information file matches the stored combination, and the process proceeds to step S135.

[0265] In step S135, the license management unit 151 determines whether the device information file is valid. Specifically, the license management unit 151 reads the device-specific key contained in the license management information detected in the process of step S134 from the storage unit 106.

[0266] The license management unit 151 calculates the hash value of the stored data contained in the device information file using the same hash function as the electronic device 23a and the read device-specific key. Subsequently, if the calculated hash value matches the hash value in the device information file, the license management unit 151 determines that the device information file is valid and proceeds to step S136.

[0267] This prevents tampering with the device-specific ID and installation key management ID in the stored data.

[0268] Furthermore, this ensures that the combination of the device-specific key used to calculate the hash value in the device information file, and the installation key management ID (corresponding to the installation key) and device-specific ID in the device information file are consistent with the combination of the device-specific key, the installation key management ID (corresponding to the installation key), and the device-specific ID stored in the storage unit 106.

[0269] In step S136, the license management unit 151 determines whether there is any remaining validity period of the license. Specifically, the license management unit 151 calculates the remaining period of the license based on the validity period and the start date and time of server use detected in the license management information in step S134 using the following formula (2).

[0270] The remaining period of the license in server 11 = validity period - (date and time of RTC 105 - start date and time of server use)...(2)

[0271] If the calculated remaining period is greater than 0, the license management unit 151 determines that there is a remaining validity period of the license and proceeds to step S137.

[0272] In step S137, the license management unit 151 makes the returned license available. For example, the license management unit 151 updates the license management information detected in the process of step S134 by adding information indicating that the return and expiration have been completed, and stores the updated license management information in the storage unit 106. Furthermore, for example, the license management unit 151 causes the storage unit 106 to store information indicating that the returned license can be reissued.

[0273] In step S138, server 11 sends a device information acquisition file. Specifically, data generation unit 152 generates a device information acquisition file containing information indicating the remaining period of the license calculated in the process of step S136, and a device information acquisition command. The remaining period is displayed above. Figure 23 In window 551, under the control of communication control unit 154, communication unit 103 sends device information acquisition files to PC 21 via network 13.

[0274] After that, the license return response process ends.

[0275] Here, in the above Figure 21 The remaining period of the license displayed in window 531 is calculated using the above formula (1). That is, the remaining period is calculated based on the date and time of the RTC 206 of electronic device 23a, which is the date and time when the license is made valid in electronic device 23a (the date and time of client use start).

[0276] On the other hand, Figure 23 The remaining license period displayed in window 551 is calculated using equation (2). That is, the remaining period is calculated based on the date and time of the server 11’s RTC 105, which is the date and time when the license validity period is set in server 11 (the server usage start date and time).

[0277] Thus, a time difference occurs between the two remaining periods. Specifically, the remaining period displayed in the window 551 is shorter than the remaining period displayed in the window 531 by the time obtained by adding the required time from the display of the window 531 to the display of the window 551 and the installation required time.

[0278] Note that the required time from the display of the window 531 to the display of the window 551 is substantially equal to the required time from the invalidation of the license in the electronic device 23a to the transmission of the device information file for returning the license to the server 11 (hereinafter referred to as license return required time). Thus, for example, in the case where the installation required time is 1 hour and the license return required time is 1 hour, the time difference between the two remaining periods is about 2 hours.

[0279] On the other hand, in step S136, in the case where the calculated remaining period of the license is 0 or less, the license management unit 151 determines that the valid period of the license has no remaining period, skips the processes of steps S137 and S138, and ends the license return response process. That is, although the license is returned, the license is invalidated as it is because the valid period has passed.

[0280] Further, in step S135, in the case where the calculated hash value does not agree with the hash value in the device information file, the license management unit 151 determines that the device information file is invalid, invalidates the license without accepting the return of the license, and then ends the license return response process.

[0281] Further, in step S134, in the case where the corresponding license management information cannot be detected, the license management unit 151 determines that the combination of the device unique ID and the installation key in the device information file does not agree with the stored combination, invalidates the license without accepting the return of the license, and then ends the license return response process.

[0282] Further, in step S133, in the case where the received device information file does not contain information indicating that the license is to be returned, the license management unit 151 determines that the return of the license is not requested, skips the processes of steps S134 to S138, and ends the license return response process.

[0283] <License Reacquisition Process>

[0284] Next, the license reacquisition process performed by the client 12 will be described with reference to the flowchart of Figure 25

[0285] In step S201, the electronic device 23b executes the command in the device information acquisition file.

[0286] Specifically, the user takes out the medium 22 of the device information acquisition file acquired in the process of step S109 in the PC 21, and connects the medium 22 to the drive 208 of the electronic device 23b. Figure 17

[0287] The drive 208 reads the device information acquisition file stored in the medium 22, and supplies the device information acquisition file to the control unit 203. The control unit 203 executes the device information acquisition command contained in the device information acquisition file. Thus, the acquisition process of the device information is started.

[0288] Note that, for example, the process of step S201 can be omitted, and the acquisition process of the device information can be started by the user operating the electronic device 23b without using the device information acquisition command.

[0289] In step S202, similarly to the process of step S4 in Figure 6 , it is determined whether the device unique key has been generated. In the case where it is determined that the device unique key has not been generated, the process proceeds to step S203.

[0290] In step S203, similarly to the process of step S5 in Figure 6 , the device unique key is generated.

[0291] After that, the process proceeds to step S204.

[0292] On the other hand, when it is determined in step S202 that the device unique key has been generated, the process of step S203 is skipped, and the process proceeds to step S204.

[0293] In step S204, similarly to the process of step S6 in Figure 6 , the device information file is generated.

[0294] In step S205, similarly to the process of step S7 in Figure 6 , the device information file is stored in the medium 22.

[0295] In step S206, similarly to the process of step S8 in Figure 6 , the device information file is transmitted to the server 11.

[0296] On the other hand, the server 11 receives the device information file in step S231 in Figure 28 , which will be described later.

[0297] In step S207, the PC 21 determines whether the installation request file is acquired.

[0298] In the case where it is determined that the device information file received from the PC 21 is valid, the server 11 receives the installation request file in step S232 in Figure 28 the display control file for the final confirmation of the implementation of the license installation is transmitted via the network 13.

[0299] The PC 21 displays on the screen Figure 26 the window 601 based on the display control file.

[0300] In the window 601, the remaining period of the license, a message inquiring whether to transfer the license for the device (the electronic device 23b), the model name of the electronic device 23b, the serial number of the electronic device 23b, and a "Yes" button 602 are displayed. When the "Yes" button 602 is pressed, for example, the window 611 is displayed on the screen of the PC 21. Figure 27

[0301] Note that, as described later, the remaining period calculated in the server 11 based on the RTC 105 is displayed as the remaining period of the license of the window 601.

[0302] In the window 611, a message prompting to download the installation request file, save the installation request file in the medium 22, and insert the medium 22 into the transfer destination device (the electronic device 23b) is displayed, and a download button 612 is displayed. Subsequently, when the download button 612 is pressed, the PC 21 determines to acquire the installation request file, and requests the server 11 to transmit the installation request file via the network 13. Thereafter, the process proceeds to step S208.

[0303] In response to this, in step S239 of the process in Figure 28 described later, the server 11 transmits the installation request file including the installation key and the like.

[0304] In step S208, the installation request file is received similarly to the process in step S10 of Figure 6 .

[0305] In step S209, the installation request file is stored in the medium 22 similarly to the process in step S11 of Figure 6 .

[0306] Thereafter, the license reacquisition process is ended.

[0307] On the other hand, in step S207, in a case where the display control file for the final confirmation of the implementation of the license installation is not received, or in a case where the acquisition of the installation request file is not instructed, the PC 21 determines not to acquire the installation request file. Thereafter, the processes of steps S208 and S209 are skipped, the installation request file is not acquired, and then the license reacquisition process is ended.

[0308] <License Reissue Process>

[0309] Next, the license reissue process will be described with reference to FIG. 27.Figure 28 The flowchart illustrates the response to Figure 25 The license re-acquisition process for client 12 is performed by the license re-issuance process executed by server 11.

[0310] In step S231, similar to Figure 13 In step S32 of the process, the communication control unit 154 of server 11 receives the data from the communication unit 103 in the above-mentioned process. Figure 25 The device information file sent from PC 21 in step S206 of the process.

[0311] In step S232, similar to Figure 13 In step S33, the device information file is determined to be valid. If the device information file is determined to be valid, the process proceeds to step S233.

[0312] In step S233, the license management unit 151 determines whether there is any remaining validity period of the license. Specifically, the license management unit 151 reads the license management information immediately preceding the license's return from the storage unit 106, that is, the license management information stored when the installation key was generated for the electronic device 23a. Subsequently, the license management unit 151 calculates the remaining license period based on the validity period and the server usage start date and time in the read license management information using the above formula (2). If the calculated remaining period is greater than 0, the license management unit 151 determines that there is a remaining validity period of the license, and then proceeds to step S234.

[0313] In step S234, the license management unit 151 determines whether to send an installation request file.

[0314] Specifically, the UI control unit 153 generates a display control file for final confirmation of the implementation of license installation. This display control file contains information indicating the remaining period of the license calculated in step S233. This remaining period is displayed as described above. Figure 26 In window 601.

[0315] Here, because from the display Figure 23 Window 551 to display Figure 26 The time required for window 601 is the time difference between the remaining period displayed in window 551 and the remaining period displayed in window 601. This time difference is approximately equal to the time required from the return of the license to the acquisition of the returned license again.

[0316] Under the control of the communication control unit 154, the communication unit 103 sends the display control file to the PC 21 via the network 13.

[0317] Subsequently, when in the above Figure 25In step S207, when the PC 21 requests transmission of the installation request file, the license management unit 151 determines to transmit the installation request file, and the process proceeds to step S235.

[0318] In step S235, the license management unit 151 sets the expiration date and the use start date and time of the license. Specifically, the license management unit 151 calculates the remaining period of the license by the above-described formula (2), and sets the calculated remaining period as the new expiration date of the license. Further, the license management unit 151 sets the current date and time of the RTC 105 as the new use start date and time of the license (server use start date and time).

[0319] Here, the date and time of the RTC 105 in formula (2) is equal to the new server use start date and time, and the server use start date and time in formula (2) is equal to the server use start date and time before the update at the time of provision to the electronic device 23a. Then, the new expiration date of the license is equal to the remaining period of the expiration date of the license with the new server use start date and time as a reference.

[0320] Subsequently, the license management unit 151 responds to the return of the license from the electronic device 23b and the provision of the returned license to the electronic device (for example, the electronic device 23a) before the date and time of the RTC 105 with the new server use start date and time as a reference elapses the new expiration date.

[0321] Note that the remaining period of the license calculated in the process of step S234 can be set as the new expiration date as it is.

[0322] In step S236, the license management unit 151 generates the installation key. That is, the license management unit 151 generates the installation key of the format described above Figure 14 In step S236, the license management unit 151 generates the installation key. That is, the license management unit 151 generates the installation key of the format described above

[0323] Note that the installation key has the same function ID as the installation key for the electronic device 23a generated in the process of step S36 in Figure 13 and has a different installation key management ID, device unique ID, use start date and time, and expiration date from the installation key for the electronic device 23a.

[0324] Specifically, a new installation key management ID is generated and set in the installation key.

[0325] As the device unique ID, the device unique ID of the electronic device 23b is set, which is included in the device information file.

[0326] As the server use start date and time, the server use start date and time set in the process at step S235 is set.

[0327] As the expiration date, the expiration date set in the process at step S235 is set.

[0328] At step S237, similarly to the process of step S37 in Figure 13 , license management information is generated and stored.

[0329] At step S238, similarly to the process of step S38 in Figure 13 , an installation request file is generated.

[0330] At step S239, similarly to the process of step S39 in Figure 13 , the installation request file is transmitted.

[0331] After that, the license reissue process is ended.

[0332] On the other hand, when it is determined at step S234 not to transmit the installation request file, the processes of steps S235 to S239 are skipped, and the license reissue process is ended. That is, the generation of the installation key and the transmission of the installation request file are not performed.

[0333] Further, at step S233, when the remaining time limit of the calculated license is 0 or less, the license management unit 151 determines that there is no remaining expiration date of the license, and the processes of steps S234 and S239 are skipped, and the license reissue process is ended. That is, since the expiration date of the license has passed, the generation of the installation key and the transmission of the installation request file are not performed.

[0334] Further, when it is determined at step S232 that the device information file is invalid, the processes of steps S233 to S239 are skipped, and the license reissue process is ended. That is, the generation of the installation key and the transmission of the installation request file are not performed.

[0335] <License transfer process>

[0336] Next, referring to the flowchart of Figure 29 , the license transfer process performed by the electronic device 23b will be described.

[0337] For example, when the medium 22 in which the installation request file is stored is connected to the drive 208 of the electronic device 23b in the process of step S209 in Figure 25 , the output unit 205 displays the window 701 of Figure 30 under the control of the UI control unit 254.

[0338] Window 701 displays the model name, function ID, remaining license period, and a message for confirming whether to enable the function for electronic device 23b. Note that the remaining license period displays the validity period of the license set in the installation key. Additionally, window 701 displays a "Yes" button 702 and a "No" button 703. Pressing the "Yes" button 702 initiates the license transfer process. Pressing the "No" button 703 does not initiate the license transfer process.

[0339] In step S261, similar to Figure 15 In step S61, the system determines whether the installation request file is valid. If the installation request file is found to be valid, the process proceeds to step S262.

[0340] In step S262, similar to Figure 15 In step S62, it is determined whether the device-specific ID in the installation key matches the device-specific ID of the device itself. If it is determined that the device-specific ID in the installation key matches the device-specific ID of the device itself, the process proceeds to step S263.

[0341] In step S263, similar to Figure 15 In step S63, it is determined whether the installation key is an installation key that has been used in a previous installation. If it is determined that the installation key is not an installation key used in a previous installation, the process proceeds to step S264.

[0342] In step S264, the license management unit 251 makes the license valid within its validity period. Specifically, the license management unit 251 sets the current date and time of RTC 206 as the license's start date and time of use (client use start date and time). Subsequently, the license management unit 251 makes the functions licensed by the installation key available based on the client use start date and time, until the validity period indicated in the installation key has expired.

[0343] Thus, for example, with from in Figure 28 In step S235, the time elapsed between the server 11 setting the license's validity period (remaining period) and the electronic device 23b making the license valid in step S264 is irrelevant. Within the validity period set in step S235, the electronic device 23b can use the functions corresponding to the license.

[0344] In step S265, similar to Figure 15 In step S65, the license information is stored.

[0345] In step S266, similar to Figure 15The processing of step S66 in the above-described processing allows confirmation of the remaining period of the license.

[0346] After that, the license transfer processing is ended.

[0347] On the other hand, when it is determined in step S261 that the installation request file is invalid, when it is determined in step S262 that the device unique ID in the installation key does not match the device unique ID of the own device, or when it is determined in step S263 that the installation key is the installation key of a past installation, the license is not made valid, and then the license transfer processing is ended.

[0348] As described above, even if the server 11 and the electronic device 23 do not directly communicate with each other, the time-limited floating license provided by the server 11 can be shared and used by a plurality of electronic devices 23 within the valid period.

[0349] Further, even if the server 11 and the electronic device 23 do not directly communicate with each other, the license can be installed in the electronic device 23 in a secure state, and the function of the electronic device 23 can be made available.

[0350] Further, even if the server 11 and the electronic device 23 do not directly communicate with each other, the license can be returned from the electronic device 23 to the server 11 in a secure state, and the license can be made available in other electronic devices 23.

[0351] Further, the license can be returned by one-way processing of transmitting only the device information file from the electronic device 23 to the server 11 via the medium 22 and the PC 21, and the processing required for returning the license can be reduced. Further, even if the RTC 105 of the server 11 and the RTC 206 of the electronic device 23 are not combined, the time-limited floating license provided by the server 11 can be reliably shared and used by a plurality of electronic devices 23 within the valid period. That is, the convenience in the case where the time-limited floating license is used in the electronic device 23 is improved.

[0352] Further, different device unique keys are generated in each electronic device 23, and the security of the communication path between each electronic device 23 and the server 11 is ensured by the device unique keys that are different from each other. Then, even if the device unique key of one electronic device 23 is illegally intruded, the floating license can be safely used in other electronic devices 23 without affecting the other electronic devices 23.

[0353] <<2. Modification>>

[0354] Next, a modification of the above-described embodiment of the present technology will be described.

[0355] In the above description, an example is given in which the electronic device 23a and the electronic device 23b share the same PC 21, but PCs 21 different from each other can be used. Further, between the acquisition of the license from the server 11 and the return of the license, the electronic device 23a can use a different PC 21.

[0356] Further, for example, instead of the PC 21, another information processing device (for example, a smart phone, a tablet, or the like) capable of communicating with the server 11 and capable of reading and writing the medium 22 can be used.

[0357] Further, for example, the server 11 and the electronic device 23 can exchange data not via the medium 22 but via another information processing device (for example, a smart phone, a tablet, or the like).

[0358] Figure 31 and 32 An example is illustrated in which the server 11 and the electronic device 23 exchange data via a smart phone 801.

[0359] For example, the server 11 and the smart phone 801 perform communication based on a fourth generation (4G) mobile communication standard (hereinafter referred to as 4G communication). The electronic device 23 and the smart phone 801 communicate with each other via Wi-Fi.

[0360] In this case, since the smart phone 801 cannot simultaneously perform 4G communication and Wi-Fi communication, the exchange of data is performed in order, similarly to the case of using the medium 22 described above.

[0361] Specifically, for example, as illustrated in Figure 31 , first, the electronic device 23 and the smart phone 801 are connected by Wi-Fi, and the electronic device 23 transmits the device information file to the smart phone 801.

[0362] Next, the server 11 and the smart phone 801 are connected by 4G communication, and the smart phone 801 transmits the device information file to the server 11. The server 11 generates an installation request file using the received device information file, and transmits the installation request file to the smart phone 801.

[0363] Next, the electronic device 23 and the smart phone 801 are reconnected by Wi-Fi, and the smart phone 801 transmits the installation request file to the electronic device 23. Subsequently, the electronic device 23 installs the license using the installation request file.

[0364] Further, for example, as illustrated in Figure 32 , first, the electronic device 23 and the smart phone 801 are connected by Wi-Fi, and the electronic device 23 transmits the device information file to the smart phone 801.

[0365] Next, the smart phone 801 transmits the device information file to the server 11 by connecting the server 11 and the smart phone 801 through the 4G communication. Thus, the license is returned from the electronic device 23 to the server 11.

[0366] In this way, it is possible to install the license provided by the server 11 in the electronic device 23, or return the license from the electronic device 23 to the server 11, without going through the medium 22, and without direct communication between the server 11 and the electronic device 23. Further, since the security of the communication path between the server 11 and the electronic device 23 is ensured by using the device unique key, tampering of data and the like is prevented.

[0367] Note that, for example, short-range wireless communication such as Bluetooth (registered trademark) or near field communication (NFC) can be used for the communication between the electronic device 23 and the smart phone 801. Thus, the server 11 and the electronic device 23 can directly communicate with each other via the smart phone 801. However, in this case, the electronic device 23 needs to support short-range wireless communication.

[0368] Further, in the above description, an example in which the return of the license is accepted and valid in a case where the combination of the device unique key used to calculate the hash value in the device information file, and the installation key management ID (to which the installation key corresponds) and the device unique ID in the device information file, coincides with the combination of the device unique key, the installation key management ID (to which the installation key corresponds), and the device unique ID stored in the storage unit 106, is described.

[0369] On the other hand, for example, the return of the license can also be accepted and valid in a case where the combination of the device unique key used to calculate the hash value in the device information file, and the installation key management ID (to which the installation key corresponds) in the device information file, coincides with the combination of the device unique key and the installation key management ID (to which the installation key corresponds) stored in the storage unit 106.

[0370] In this case, for example, the device unique ID can be prohibited from being included in the device information file. Further, for example, in the server 11, the hash value of the storage data in the device information file is calculated using the installation key management ID coinciding with the installation key management ID in the device information file, and the device unique key combined in the storage unit 106. Subsequently, the return of the license is accepted in a case where the calculated hash value coincides with the hash value in the device information file.

[0371] Furthermore, for example, instead of the server's start date and time, or in addition to the server's start date and time, the license management unit 151 of server 11 can set an end date and time (hereinafter referred to as the server's end date and time). For example, the license management unit 151 can set an end date and time (hereinafter referred to as the server's end date and time) through... Figure 13 In step S35, add the license validity period and the current date and time of server 11's RTC 105, or by... Figure 28 In step S235, the remaining period of the license is added to the current date and time of the RTC 105 of server 11, and the license usage end date and time are set.

[0372] In this scenario, for example, before the server usage end date and time of RTC 105, the license management unit 151 can respond to the return of licenses from the license-providing electronic device 23 and the provision of licenses returned from electronic device 23 to other electronic devices 23. Furthermore, for example, the license management unit 151 can set the period from the current date and time of RTC 105 to the server usage end date and time as the remaining period of the license.

[0373] Furthermore, for example, instead of the client's start date and time of use, or in addition to the client's start date and time of use, the license management unit 251 of the electronic device 23 can set the end date and time of use (hereinafter referred to as the client's end date and time of use) based on the current date and time of RTC 206 and the validity period of the license. In this case, for example, the license management unit 251 can manage the validity period of the license based on the client's end date and time of use.

[0374] also, Figure 14 The format of the installation key in the example is provided and can be changed as appropriate.

[0375] For example, instead of the server's start date and time, or in addition to the server's start date and time, the installation key can include the server's end date and time. In this case, for example, the UI control unit 254 of electronic device 23a can, based on the server's end date and time, […]. Figure 20 and 21 The screen displays the validity period of the license in server 11.

[0376] In addition, for example, some data contained in the installation key may not be stored in the installation key itself, but in a file such as an installation request file used to send the installation key.

[0377] Further, in the above description, it is described that the device information file transmitted from the client 21 to the server 11 at the time of returning the license includes the installation key management ID as an example of the installation key information related to the installation key when the license is returned. On the other hand, for example, the installation key or both the installation key and the installation key management ID can be included in the device information file as the installation key information.

[0378] Further, in the above description, it is described that an example in which information is mainly transmitted and received in a file format between the server 11 and the client 21, but any other format can also be used as the format of the information transmitted and received.

[0379] Further, the server 11 does not necessarily need to include the RTC 105. For example, the communication unit 103 of the server 11 can receive information indicating the date and time of the RTC included in another server via the network 13, and the license management unit 151 or the like can use the date and time of the received RTC.
