Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to storage devices, and more particularly to closet storage devices. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a hanging storage enclosure. BACKGROUND

[0002] Generally, a closet can refer to a dedicated space within a residence for storage, particularly for clothing. A suitable closet is built into a wall of a house or apartment, so the closet does not take up visible space in the room. Closets are often built under staircases, thus utilizing an otherwise awkward space that would otherwise go unused.

[0003] Closets often include a combination of shelves that can be made of different materials, and this combination of shelves has various advantages and disadvantages. Wire shelves are less expensive and can be somewhat difficult to install, but cannot support a great deal of weight without deforming. Wood shelves can be more expensive and difficult to install, but are stronger than wire shelves. Tube shelves can be easy to install, while requiring fewer pieces that need to be cut or measured.

[0004] Regardless of the configuration of the closet or the materials used in the combination of the closet, most closets include closet rods for hanging clothing, jackets, and the like. For example, a closet with closet rods can be used to store coats, jackets, hooded sweatshirts, sweatshirts, gloves, hats, scarves, and boots / shoes. Some closets can have closet rods already installed, with a dedicated open space below the closet rods that can be used to store items located in boxes or bins. It is common for closets to include a top shelf above the closet rods for storage.

[0005] Regardless of the design or layout of the closet, the area dedicated to the placement of the closet rods is often a large portion of the overall closet space. Therefore, it is apparent that there is a need and / or desire to efficiently utilize this space. Furthermore, closets are often open or allow the closet to be a part of the home decor. Therefore, it is apparent that there is a need and / or desire to utilize various color and material options to attractively present the area and space of the closet rods for various tastes and needs of the occupants.

[0049] • Teen or children's room – As a design example, the front design of the front cover 122 can be slightly modified to resemble a real school locker. The hanging storage enclosure 10 can be used to store games, electronic products, headphones, books, school supplies, etc.

[0050] • Baby - Multiple slide-out drawer-like pieces 12 can be used to store diapers, wipes, powder, medicine, etc. In addition, the hanging storage enclosure 10 can have specialized interior components designed for common baby items such as diapers and wipes.

[0051] • Sports equipment and hat / cap storage - The hanging storage enclosure 10 can be particularly attractive to athletes on sports teams, and the hanging storage enclosure 10 can have specialized interior components designed for storing sports-related equipment such as caps, gloves, insoles, protective gear, etc.

[0052] In addition, the envisioned use of the hanging storage enclosure 10 located outside of the cabinet can include versions for bathrooms, kitchens, pantries, garages, laundry rooms, utility rooms, etc.

[0053] One feature or advantage of the hanging storage enclosure 10 can be adjustable supports located at the back of the unit, i.e., the top slide 26 and the bottom slide 28, which enable the slide-out drawer-like pieces 12 to open without tipping over. This unique functionality is important because without a means of bracing the body of the hanging storage enclosure 10, the body of the hanging storage enclosure 10 would tip over dramatically when the drawer-like pieces are pulled open.

[0054] Another feature or advantage of the hanging storage enclosure 10 is the hanging mechanism 22 with a tightening / locking feature of adjustable lock 52. The interior portion of the hook or hanging mechanism 22 can be designed to press fit over the cabinet rod 32, where the adjustable lock 52 is configured to positively secure the hanging storage enclosure 10 to the cabinet rod 32.

[0055] Another feature or advantage of the hanging storage enclosure 10 can be a friction groove 72 or rubberized hook interior of the hanging mechanism 22, which can be used to better grip the cabinet rod 32. This feature can also be designed such that the gravitational force and weight of the hanging storage enclosure 10 can increase the tightening on the cabinet rod 32. In addition, the tear-drop or trapezoidal hook shape 68 can be configured to accommodate a range of diameters and shapes of cabinet rods. As another alternative to the tear-drop shape, a multi-layer hook shape can be used to accommodate a range of diameters of cabinet rods.

[0056] Another optional feature can be a built-in level. Although not shown in the figures, such a built-in level can simply be a feature that can be added to assist with product installation. A small level can be incorporated into the main frame 14, such as on the top side 16.

[0057] Another optional feature can be built-in lighting that is activated when the drawer-like piece 12 is opened. This lighting feature can be a battery-powered LED ("light-emitting diode") light that illuminates the interior of the unit once the drawer-like piece 12 is opened.

[0058] Another optional feature can be to have one or more pull-out drawer-like pieces 12 located within a single hanging storage enclosure 10. Thus, the disclosure is not limited to the single drawer-like piece 12 configuration shown in the figures. Rather, the disclosure includes other versions of the product having multiple drawer-like pieces 12 that can be opened together or independently.

[0059] As shown in the figures, another optional feature can be to have the drawer-like piece 12 pull out or pivot open like a traditional door. Thus, the configuration of the drawer-like piece 12 can be like a drawer-like system or a locker system.

[0060] Another optional feature is that the exterior door can be mirrored, such as located on the front cover 122 of the drawer-like piece 12.

[0061] Another optional feature is that collegiate and other sports-related certificates and license proofs can be incorporated into the design. As an example, a licensed hanging storage enclosure 10 can incorporate the name, logo, mascot, portrait, etc. of a professional sports team or college or university, which would be an ideal choice for use in an athlete's locker facility or in a student's dorm room.

[0062] Another optional feature can be that the surface of the hollow interior 15 of the main frame 14, the surface of the drawer-like piece 12 or the vertical panel 118 can be flocked or coated with other soft or rubberized to protect the contents stored in the main frame 14, drawer-like piece 12 or vertical panel 118 from being scratched or sliding.

[0063] Another feature is that the interior can be configured / customized based on user preferences. Various hooks, shelves, pockets, etc. can be included and then rearranged for the user to store the items that the user prefers.

[0064] Another optional feature can be that the exterior shape of the design can be changed depending on the intended use. For example, a wider version can be made to store folded sweaters or a narrower version to store belts and scarves. Thus, the hanging storage enclosure 10 does not necessarily have to be a hanging rectangular piece as shown in the figures, but can be made in many different shapes.

[0065] Another optional feature can be that the hanging mechanism can be moved or configured to hang on a traditional closet coat hook to provide a storage device for gloves, hats, scarves, etc.

[0066] Another optional feature can be that the exterior of the hanging storage enclosure 10 can contain an external pocket, mirror, whiteboard for note taking, key hook, and other compartments or shelves.

[0067] Another optional feature can be that the hanging mechanism can be moved or configured for use in a storage cabinet for storing spices, kitchen tools, recipe books, etc. This version of the hanging storage enclosure 10 does not hang from a cabinet rod, but can still brace the main frame 14 with the support of the top slide 26 and the bottom slide 28, and allow the main frame 14 to contain the slide-out drawer-like piece 12 that does not tip over.

[0068] Another optional feature of the hanging storage enclosure 10 can be that there are many different structural and material choices including injection molded plastic, vacuum formed plastic, shaped metal, cast metal, wood, etc.
