Abstract
Description
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This application claims priority to and the benefit of U.S. Patent Application No. 17 / 218,991, filed on March 31, 2021, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 008,583, filed on April 10, 2020, the disclosures of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entireties as if fully set forth below and for all applicable purposes. Technical Field
[0003] The present application relates to wireless communication systems, and more particularly, to methods (and associated devices and systems) for power conservation (including during connected mode operation) and for extended reality (XR) data communications with or without discontinuous reception (DRX). Background Art
[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). A wireless multiple access communication system may include multiple base stations (BSs), each of which simultaneously supports communication of multiple communication devices (which may be further referred to as user equipment (UE)). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (e.g., long term evolution (LTE) systems, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems) and fifth generation (5G) systems (which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems). These systems may employ techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM).
[0005] Extended reality (XR) continues to be a growing area of wireless communication usage. XR may include augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and / or virtual reality (VR) devices, systems and / or communications. XR devices may be mobile devices (e.g., phones, tablets, glasses, watches, goggles, etc.) that facilitate XR wireless communications (including supporting wireless data exchange with a server). Many XR applications support dynamic reconstruction of three-dimensional (3D) environments and / or fusion of real-world environments with virtual environments. Therefore, XR applications may require high-quality video and / or audio data communications with low latency, which may result in considerable power requirements for XR devices. At the same time, because many XR devices are wearable and mobile, users expect XR devices to provide good battery life and remain comfortable during use (e.g., avoid overheating), thereby providing an overall good user experience. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a power-efficient design for downlink wireless data communications (including XR data communications) in the following manner: delivering to users with expected levels of communication latency and throughput, while also providing power savings and extended battery life. Summary of the invention

In some instances, well-known structures and components are shown in block diagram form to avoid making these concepts difficult to understand.
[0029] In general, the present disclosure relates to wireless communication systems, which are also referred to as wireless communication networks. In various embodiments, the techniques and apparatus may be used in wireless communication networks, such as code division multiple access (CDMA) networks, time division multiple access (TDMA) networks, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) networks, orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA) networks, single carrier FDMA (SC-FDMA) networks, LTE networks, global system for mobile communications (GSM) networks, 5th generation (5G) or new radio (NR) networks, and other communication networks. As described herein, the terms "network" and "system" may be used interchangeably.
[0030] OFDMA network can realize radio technology such as Evolved UTRA (E-UTRA), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11, IEEE 802.16, IEEE 802.20, Flash-OFDM, etc. UTRA, E-UTRA and GSM are part of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). In particular, Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a version of UMTS using E-UTRA. UTRA, E-UTRA, GSM, UMTS and LTE are described in documents provided by an organization named "3rd Generation Partnership Project" (3GPP), and cdma2000 is described in documents from an organization named "3rd Generation Partnership Project 2" (3GPP2). These various radio technologies and standards are known or under development. For example, the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a collaboration between telecommunications association groups that aims to define globally applicable third generation (3G) mobile phone specifications. 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a 3GPP project aimed at improving UMTS mobile phone standards. 3GPP may define specifications for next generation mobile networks, mobile systems, and mobile devices. The present disclosure relates to the development of wireless technologies in accordance with LTE, 4G, 5G, NR and beyond, in which access to the wireless spectrum is shared between networks using a new and different set of radio access technologies or radio air interfaces.
[0031] Specifically, 5G networks take into account different deployments, different spectrums, and different services and devices that can be implemented using a unified air interface based on OFDM. To achieve these goals, in addition to developing new radio technologies for 5G NR networks, further enhancements to LTE and LTE-A are also considered. 5G NR will be able to expand to provide coverage for the following: (1) Ultra-high density (e.g., ~1 million nodes / km) 2), ultra-low complexity (e.g., ~10s of bits / s), ultra-low energy (e.g., ~10+ years of battery life), and deep coverage to reach challenging locations for large-scale Internet of Things (IoT); (2) including mission-critical control, with strong security to protect sensitive personal, financial, or confidential information, ultra-high reliability (e.g., ~99.9999% reliability), ultra-low latency (e.g., ~1ms), and users with widespread mobility or lack of mobility; (3) with enhanced mobile broadband, including very high capacity (e.g., ~10Tbps / km 2 ), extreme data rates (e.g., multi-Gbps rates, 100+Mbps user experienced rates), and deep perception with advanced discovery and optimization.
[0032] 5G NR can be implemented using an optimized OFDM-based waveform with a scalable digital scheme and transmission time interval (TTI); with a general, flexible framework to effectively multiplex services and functions through a dynamic, low-latency time division duplex (TDD) / frequency division duplex (FDD) design; and with advanced wireless technologies, such as massive multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO), robust millimeter wave (mmWave) transmission, advanced channel coding, and device-centric mobility. The scalability of the digital scheme in 5G NR, as well as the scaling of the subcarrier spacing, can effectively enable different services to be operated across different spectrums and different deployments. For example, in various outdoor and macro coverage deployments of less than 3GHz FDD / TDD implementations, the subcarrier spacing can be, for example, 15kHz on 5, 10, 20MHz, etc. bandwidth (BW). For other various outdoor and small cell coverage deployments of TDD greater than 3GHz, the subcarrier spacing can be 30kHz on 80 / 100MHz BW. For various other indoor broadband implementations, using TDD on the unlicensed portion of the 5GHz band, the subcarrier spacing can be 60kHz at 160MHz BW. Finally, for various deployments using mmWave components to transmit with TDD at 28GHz, the subcarrier spacing can be 120kHz at 500MHz BW.
[0033] 5G NR's scalable digital scheme facilitates scalable TTIs for different latency and quality of service (QoS) requirements. For example, shorter TTIs can be used for low latency and high reliability, while longer TTIs can be used for higher spectral efficiency. Efficient multiplexing of long and short TTIs allows transmissions to start on symbol boundaries. 5G NR also considers a self-contained integrated subframe design with uplink / downlink scheduling information, data, and acknowledgment in the same subframe. The self-contained integrated subframe supports communications in unlicensed or contention-based shared spectrum, adaptive uplink / downlink, which can be flexibly configured on a per-cell basis to dynamically switch between uplink and downlink to meet current business needs.
[0034] Various other aspects and features of the present disclosure are further described below. It should be apparent that the teachings herein can be embodied in a variety of forms, and any specific structure, function, or structure and function disclosed herein is merely representative and non-restrictive. Based on the teachings herein, it should be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that an aspect disclosed herein can be implemented independently of any other aspect, and two or more of these aspects can be combined in various ways. For example, any number of aspects set forth herein can be used to implement a device or practice a method. In addition, in addition to or different from one or more aspects set forth herein, other structures, functions, or structures and functions can be used to implement such a device or practice such a method. For example, a method can be implemented as a part of a system, device, device, and / or instructions stored on a computer-readable medium for execution on a processor or computer. In addition, an aspect can include at least one element of a claim.
[0035] Extended reality (XR) continues to be a growing area of wireless communication usage.
[0036] In a wireless communication network, discontinuous reception (DRX) is a technique in which a UE can enter a sleep mode for a certain period of time and enter an awake mode for another period of time. During the awake period, the UE can monitor the PDCCH from the serving BS and decode the PDCCH received from the BS. During the sleep period, the UE may not monitor the PDCCH. The sleep mode allows the UE to power off certain radio components or at least switch certain radio components to a lower power state than the active state. Therefore, the use of DRX can provide power saving at the UE. However, DRX techniques including connected mode DRX (CDRX) do not consider or take into account the specific characteristics and requirements of XR services. In this regard, for existing DRX and CDRX techniques, UE behavior is fixed throughout the wake-up duration or active state, and does not take into account the UE's data services (including XR data services) that may have short delay requirements. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt the following approach to provide a power-efficient design for downlink wireless data communication (including XR data communication): that is, to deliver to users with expected levels of communication delay and throughput, while also providing power saving and extended battery life.
[0037] Aspects of the present disclosure provide a power-efficient design for downlink wireless data communications (including XR data communications) in the following manner: that is, delivering to users with expected levels of communication latency and throughput while also providing power savings and extended battery life. Aspects of the present disclosure take into account different communication environments, including the business mode of one or more XR devices in a cell. Therefore, the technology of the present disclosure can use device-specific and / or group-specific downlink data configurations to address different performance requirements (including XR data throughput and latency requirements). The downlink data configuration can define one or more operating areas (e.g., power saving areas, emergency transmission areas, no transmission areas, etc.) for use by wireless communication devices. The operating areas can be used regardless of whether the wireless communication device supports DRX. In some instances, the operating areas are used to further enhance the power saving gains of devices that support DRX. Using the downlink data configuration of the present disclosure can provide an improved user experience through power saving (including improved power saving relative to DRX and connected mode DRX (CDRX) technology), extended battery life, maintaining a comfortable device temperature, taking data transmission of multiple users (including multiple XR users), meeting latency requirements, and the like.
[0038] These and other aspects of the present disclosure may provide several benefits. For example, the amount of time that a UE can experience in sleep mode as part of a DRX operation (including connected mode DRX (C-DRX)) may be increased, thereby reducing power consumption and increasing battery life. In this regard, causing the UE to enter a sleep state during a portion of the wake-up period rather than unnecessarily monitoring the PDCCH during the entire wake-up period helps the UE to power off or shut down one or more components of the UE associated with receiving, decoding, and / or otherwise processing PDCCH signals. Similarly, the amount of time that a BS avoids sending a signal as part of a DTX operation may be increased, thereby reducing power consumption of the BS, reducing network traffic, saving system resources, and reducing the possibility of interference. In addition, the power-saving downlink wireless data communication method of the present disclosure may be used by devices that do not support DRX, thereby providing power savings, extending battery life, and / or maintaining a comfortable device temperature that is otherwise unavailable to these devices that do not support DRX. In addition, various aspects facilitate multiplexing of data transmissions of a greater number of simultaneous users (including simultaneous XR users) compared to existing methods. For example, in some instances, the present disclosure facilitates cross-slot scheduling of downlink data communications using associated downlink control signals, which can facilitate scheduling a larger number of downlink data communications within the latency requirements required for the communications. In addition, the power saving advantages and multiplexing benefits of the present disclosure are provided in a manner that still meets the latency requirements of data communications (including XR data communications). Additional features and benefits of the present disclosure are set forth in the following description.
[0039] Figure 1 A wireless communication network 100 according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is illustrated. The network 100 may be a 5G network. The network 100 includes a plurality of base stations (BSs) 105 (labeled as 105a, 105b, 105c, 105d, 105e, and 105f, respectively) and other network entities. The BS 105 may be a station that communicates with the UE 115, and may also be referred to as an evolved Node B (eNB), a next generation eNB (gNB), an access point, etc. Each BS 105 may provide communication coverage for a particular geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to this particular geographic coverage area of the BS 105 and / or a BS subsystem serving the coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.
[0040] The BS 105 may provide communication coverage for a macro cell or a small cell (e.g., a pico cell or a femto cell) and / or other types of cells. A macro cell typically covers a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with a service subscription with a network provider. Small cells such as pico cells typically cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with a service subscription with a network provider. Small cells such as femto cells also typically cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home) and, in addition to unrestricted access, may also provide restricted access for UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG), UEs for users in a home, etc.). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a small cell may be referred to as a small cell BS, a pico BS, a femto BS, or a home BS. In Figure 1 In the example shown, BS 105d and 105e may be conventional macro BSs, while BS 105a-105c may be macro BSs capable of using one of 3-dimensional (3D), full-dimensional (FD) or massive MIMO. BS 105a-105c may utilize its higher-dimensional MIMO capabilities to utilize 3D beamforming in height and azimuth beamforming to increase coverage and capacity. BS 105f may be a small cell BS, which may be a home node or a portable access point. BS 105 may support one or more (e.g., two, three, four, etc.) cells.
[0041] Network 100 may support synchronous or asynchronous operation. For synchronous operation, the BSs may have similar frame timing, and transmissions from different BSs may be approximately aligned in time. For asynchronous operation, the BSs may have different frame timing, and transmissions from different BSs may not be aligned in time.
[0042] UE 115 is dispersed throughout the wireless network 100, and each UE 115 can be fixed or mobile. UE 115 can also be referred to as a terminal, a mobile station, a subscriber unit, a station, and the like. UE 115 can be a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a tablet computer, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, and the like. In one aspect, UE 115 can be a device including a universal integrated circuit card (UICC). On the other hand, UE can be a device that does not include a UICC. In some aspects, UE 115 that does not include a UICC can also be referred to as an IoT device or an Internet of Everything (IoE) device. UE 115a-115d is an example of a mobile smart phone type device that accesses the network 100. UE 115 can also be a machine specifically configured for connected communications, including machine type communications (MTC), enhanced MTC (eMTC), narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), and the like. UE 115e-115k are examples of various machines configured for communication to access network 100. UE 115 is capable of communicating with any type of BS (whether macro BS, small cell, etc.). Figure 1 , a lightning graphic (eg, a communication link) indicates wireless transmission between UE 115 and serving BS 105, or desired transmission between BSs, and backhaul transmission between BSs, where serving BS 105 is a BS designated to serve UE 115 on a downlink and / or uplink.
[0043] In operation, BS 105a-105c uses 3D beamforming and coordinated spatial techniques (e.g., coordinated multipoint (CoMP) or multi-connectivity) to serve UEs 115a and 115b. Macro BS 105d can perform backhaul communications with BS 105a-105c and small cell BS 105f. Macro BS 105d can also transmit multicast services that are subscribed to and received by UEs 115c and 115d. Such multicast services may include mobile TV or streaming video, or may include other services for providing community information, such as weather emergencies or alerts, such as Amber Alerts or Gray Alerts.
[0044] The BS 105 may also communicate with a core network. The core network may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. At least some of the BSs 105 (e.g., which may be examples of gNBs or access node controllers (ANCs)) may interface with the core network via a backhaul link (e.g., NG-C, NG-U, etc.) and may perform radio configuration and scheduling for communications with the UE 115. In various examples, the BSs 105 may communicate with each other directly or indirectly (e.g., through the core network) via a backhaul link (e.g., X1, X2, etc.), which may be a wired or wireless communication link.
[0045] The network 100 may also support mission-critical communications with ultra-reliable and redundant links for mission-critical devices (e.g., UE 115e, which may be a drone). The redundant communication links with UE 115e may include links from macro BSs 105d and 105e, and links from small cell BSs 105f. Other machine-type devices, such as UE 115f (thermometer), UE 115g (smart meter), and UE 115h (wearable device) may communicate directly with the BS (e.g., small cell BS 105f and macro BS 105e) through the network 100, or in a multi-hop configuration by communicating with another user device that relays its information to the network, such as UE 115f sending temperature measurement information to smart meter UE 115g, which then reports to the network through small cell BS 105f. The network 100 may also provide additional network efficiency through dynamic, low-latency TDD / FDD communications (e.g., in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V)).
[0046] In some embodiments, the network 100 communicates using an OFDM-based waveform. An OFDM-based system can divide the system BW into multiple (K) orthogonal subcarriers, which are also commonly referred to as subcarriers, tones, frequency bands, etc. Each subcarrier can be modulated with data. In some instances, the subcarrier spacing between adjacent subcarriers can be fixed, and the total number of subcarriers (K) can depend on the system BW. The system BW can also be divided into subbands. In other instances, the subcarrier spacing and / or TTI duration can be scalable.
[0047] In one embodiment, BS 105 may assign or schedule transmission resources (e.g., in the form of time-frequency resource blocks (RBs)) for downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) transmissions in network 100. DL refers to the transmission direction from BS 105 to UE 115, while UL refers to the transmission direction from UE 115 to BS 105. Communication may be in the form of radio frames. A radio frame may be divided into a plurality of subframes or time slots, e.g., approximately 10 subframes or time slots. Each time slot may be further divided into micro-time slots. In FDD mode, simultaneous UL and DL transmissions may occur in different frequency bands. For example, each subframe includes a UL subframe in a UL frequency band and a DL subframe in a DL frequency band. In TDD mode, UL and DL transmissions occur in different time periods using the same frequency band. For example, a subset of subframes (e.g., DL subframes) in a radio frame may be used for DL transmissions, and another subset of subframes (e.g., UL subframes) in a radio frame may be used for UL transmissions.
[0048] The DL subframe and the UL subframe may be further divided into several regions. For example, each DL or UL subframe may have a predefined region for transmitting reference signals, control information, and data. A reference signal is a predetermined signal that facilitates communication between BS 105 and UE 115. For example, a reference signal may have a specific pilot pattern or structure, wherein a pilot tone may span an operating BW or frequency band, and each pilot tone may be located at a predefined time and a predefined frequency. For example, BS 105 may send a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) / or a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) to enable UE 115 to estimate a DL channel. Similarly, UE 115 may send a sounding reference signal (SRS) to enable BS 105 to estimate an UL channel. Control information may include resource assignments and protocol control. Data may include protocol data and / or operational data. In some embodiments, BS 105 and UE 115 may communicate using a self-contained subframe. A self-contained subframe may include a portion for DL communication and a portion for UL communication. A self-contained subframe may be DL-centric or UL-centric. A DL-centric subframe may include a duration for DL communication that is longer than a duration for UL communication. A UL-centric subframe may include a duration for UL communication that is longer than a duration for DL communication.
[0049] In one embodiment, network 100 may be an NR network deployed on a licensed spectrum. BS 105 may send synchronization signals (e.g., including a primary synchronization signal (PSS) and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS)) in network 100 to facilitate synchronization. BS 105 may broadcast system information associated with network 100 (e.g., including a master information block (MIB), remaining system information (RMSI), and other system information (OSI)) to facilitate initial network access. In some instances, BS 105 may broadcast PSS, SSS, and / or MIB in the form of a synchronization signal block (SSB) on a physical broadcast channel (PBCH), and may broadcast RMSI and / or OSI on a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH).
[0050] In one embodiment, a UE 115 attempting to access the network 100 may perform an initial cell search by detecting the PSS from the BS 105. The PSS may enable synchronization of period timing and may indicate a physical layer identity value. The UE 115 may then receive the SSS. The SSS may enable radio frame synchronization and may provide a cell identity value, which may be combined with the physical layer identity value to identify the cell. The PSS and SSS may be located in the center portion of the carrier or at any suitable frequency within the carrier.
[0051] After receiving the PSS and SSS, the UE 115 may receive the MIB. The MIB may include system information for initial network access and scheduling information for RMSI and / or OSI. After decoding the MIB, the UE 115 may receive the RMSI and / or OSI. The RMSI and / or OSI may include radio resource control (RRC) information related to random access channel (RACH) procedures, paging, control resource sets (CORESET) for physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitoring, physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH), power control, and SRS.
[0052] After obtaining the MIB, RMSI and / or OSI, the UE 115 may perform a random access procedure to establish a connection with the BS 105. In some examples, the random access procedure may be a four-step random access procedure. For example, the UE 115 may send a random access preamble, and the BS 105 may respond with a random access response. The random access response (RAR) may include a detected random access preamble identifier (ID) corresponding to the random access preamble, timing advance (TA) information, UL authorization, a temporary cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI), and / or a backoff indicator. Upon receiving the random access response, the UE 115 may send a connection request to the BS 105, and the BS 105 may respond with a connection response. The connection response may indicate contention resolution. In some examples, the random access preamble, RAR, connection request, and connection response may be referred to as message 1 (MSG 1), message 2 (MSG 2), message 3 (MSG 3), and message 4 (MSG 4), respectively. In some examples, the random access procedure may be a two-step random access procedure, in which the UE 115 may send a random access preamble and a connection request in a single transmission, and the BS 105 may respond by sending a random access response and a connection response in a single transmission. The combined random access preamble and connection request in the two-step random access procedure may be referred to as message A (MSG A). The combined random access response and connection response in the two-step random access procedure may be referred to as message B (MSG B).
[0053] After establishing the connection, the UE 115 may initiate an initial network attachment process with the network 100. When the UE 115 has no active data communication with the BS 105 after the network attachment, the UE 115 may return to an idle state (e.g., an RRC idle mode). Alternatively, the UE 115 and the BS 105 may enter an operational state or an active state, in which operational data may be exchanged (e.g., an RRC connected mode). For example, the BS 105 may schedule the UE 115 for UL and / or DL communication. The BS 105 may send an UL and / or DL scheduling grant to the UE 115 via the PDCCH. The BS 105 may send a DL communication signal to the UE 115 via the PDSCH according to the DL scheduling grant. The UE 115 may send an UL communication signal to the BS 105 via the PUSCH and / or PUCCH according to the UL scheduling grant. In some embodiments, the BS 105 and the UE 115 may communicate using a hybrid automatic request (HARQ) technique to improve reliability. Additionally, the UE 115 and / or BS 105 may utilize DRX (eg, during RRC idle mode), including connected mode DRX (C-DRX) (eg, during RRC connected mode) and / or DTX modes of operation.
[0054] In one embodiment, the network 100 may operate on a system BW or a component carrier (CC) BW. The network 100 may divide the system BW into multiple BWPs (e.g., parts). The BS 105 may dynamically assign the UE 115 to operate on a certain BWP (e.g., a certain part of the system BW). The assigned BWP may be referred to as an active BWP. The UE 115 may monitor the active BWP to search for signaling information from the BS 105. The BS 105 may schedule the UE 115 to perform UL or DL communications in the active BWP. In some instances, the BS 105 may assign a pair of BWPs within the CC to the UE 115 for UL and DL communications. For example, the BWP pair may include a BWP for UL communication and a BWP for DL communication. In some instances, the BS 105 may dynamically switch the UE 115 from one BWP to another BWP, for example, switching from a broadband BWP to a narrowband BWP for power saving or switching from a narrowband BWP to a broadband BWP for communication.
[0055] BS 105 may also configure one or more CORESETs for UE 115 in the BWP. A CORESET may include a set of frequency resources that spans a number of symbols in time. BS 105 may configure one or more search spaces for PDCCH monitoring for UE 115 based on the CORESETs. UE 115 may perform blind decoding in the search space to search for DL control information from the BS. BS 105 may configure various CORESETs and / or search spaces for different types of PDCCH monitoring (e.g., DL / UL scheduling and / or wake-up information) for UE 115. In one example, BS 105 may configure BWP, CORESET, and / or PDCCH search space for UE 115 via RRC configuration.
[0056] In one embodiment, BS 105 may establish an RRC connection with UE 115 in a primary cell (PCell) (e.g., on a primary frequency carrier), and may subsequently configure UE 115 to communicate on a secondary cell (SCell) (e.g., on a secondary frequency carrier). In one embodiment, BS 105 may trigger UE 115 to report channel information based on a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) transmitted by BS 105. In some instances, the trigger may be aperiodic, which may be referred to as an aperiodic CSI-RS (A-CSI-RS) trigger.
[0057] The network 100 can operate on a shared frequency band or an unlicensed frequency band, for example, at a higher frequency in about 3.5 gigahertz (GHz), sub-6GHz or mmWave bands. The network 100 can divide the frequency band into multiple channels, for example, each channel occupies about 20 megahertz (MHz). The BS 105 and the UE 115 can be operated by multiple network operation entities that share resources in a shared communication medium, and a channel occupancy time (COT) can be obtained in the shared medium for communication. The COT can be discontinuous in time and can refer to the amount of time that a wireless node can send a frame when it has won the competition for the wireless medium. Each COT can include multiple transmission time slots. A COT can also be referred to as a transmission opportunity (TXOP).
[0058] UE 115 may be an extended reality (XR) device, including (but not limited to) an augmented reality (AR) device, a mixed reality (MR) device, a virtual reality (VR) device, a head mounted device (HMD), a wearable device, etc. In this regard, Figure 2 An example of an XR device 200 according to some aspects of the present disclosure is shown. In particular, the illustrated XR device 200 includes (1) an AR and / or MR smartphone, tablet, or portable console 115-a; (2) an AR, MR, and / or VR wearable system including a smartphone, tablet, or portable console and a mounting structure (e.g., a headband configured to accommodate the smartphone, tablet, or portable console and / or to couple with the smartphone, tablet, or portable console); (3) AR and / or MR smart glasses 115-c; and (4) VR goggles 115-d. It should be understood that aspects of the present disclosure are generally applicable to any type of XR device, not just Figure 2 . In addition, it should be understood that each of the XR devices 200 can be tethered to other devices, including smartphones, personal computers (PCs), or consoles. Thus, the XR device can be connected to another device using a universal serial bus (USB) link, a Bluetooth link, a Wi-Fi link, a 5G sidelink, or other suitable connection. In some instances, the XR device receives downlink data from a server, host, or other device through the device to which the XR device is tethered. Therefore, it should be understood that aspects of the present disclosure are suitable for use with the XR device alone and / or tethered to one or more other devices through which the XR device receives data.
[0059] Figure 3A power saving downlink communication technique 300 according to some aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. As shown, a base station 105-a sends a downlink configuration communication 305-a to a UE 115-a. The downlink configuration communication 305-a may include a configuration indicating one or more areas and associated operating parameters for use by the UE 115-a when receiving downlink communications from the base station 105-a. For example, the area indicated by the configuration may include one or more power saving areas, one or more emergency transmission areas, and / or one or more non-transmission areas. In some instances, the base station 105-a determines and / or selects the configuration and / or one or more operating parameters of each area (e.g., based on the data service (including XR data service) of the UE 115-a and / or one or more other wireless communication devices (e.g., UE 115-c) connected to the base station 105-a). The downlink configuration communication 305-a may be sent to the UE 115-a via at least one of a radio resource control (RRC) configuration, a downlink control information (DCI), or a medium access control control element (MAC-CE).
[0060] As shown, base station 105-a also sends downlink data communication 310-a to UE 115-a. Downlink data communication 310-a can be sent by base station 105-a and received by UE 115-a according to the configuration included in downlink configuration communication 305-a. For example, downlink data communication 310-a can be transmitted based on operating parameters of one or more regions indicated by the configuration. Downlink data communication 310-a can be transmitted on a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH).
[0061] In a similar manner, base station 105-a also sends downlink configuration communication 305-c and downlink data communication 310-c to UE 115-c. In this regard, the base station may determine and / or select a different configuration for UE 115-c compared to UE 115-a. That is, the configuration may be specific to a particular wireless communication device and / or a group of wireless communication devices. In addition, the configuration of a particular wireless communication device (e.g., UE-115a or UE-115c) or a group of wireless communication devices (e.g., UE-115a and UE 115-c) may be changed or updated by the base station dynamically, semi-statically, periodically, and / or a combination thereof.
[0062] Figure 4A protocol diagram of a wireless communication method 400 according to some aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. As shown, at step 405, the UE 115-a and the base station 105-b establish a connected mode connection. In some instances, the UE 115-a and the base station 105-b establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection at step 405. At step 410, the BS 105-b determines a power saving configuration for the UE 115-a. In some instances, the power saving configuration indicates one or more regions and associated operating parameters for use by the UE 115-a when receiving downlink communications from the base station 105-b. For example, the regions indicated by the power saving configuration may include one or more power saving regions, one or more emergency transmission regions, and / or one or more no-transmission regions. Figure 4 In the example shown, three different areas (i.e., a first area, a second area, and a third area) are illustrated. However, it should be understood that any number of areas may be used. It should also be understood that multiple areas of the same or similar type may be used, including having one or more different operating parameters between the same or similar area types. The base station 105-b may determine and / or select an area and / or operating parameters for each area based on the data traffic and associated delay requirements of the UE 115-a and / or one or more other wireless communication devices connected to the base station 105-b.
[0063] At step 415, the base station 105-b sends a power saving configuration to the UE 115-a. The power saving configuration may be sent to the UE 115-a via at least one of a radio resource control (RRC) configuration, downlink control information (DCI), or a medium access control control element (MAC-CE).
[0064] At step 420-a, the UE 115-a operates based on the first region operating parameters indicated in the power saving configuration received at step 415. Similarly, at step 420-b, the base station 105-b performs one (or more) downlink communications based on the first region operating parameters. The operating parameters for the first region may include a time slot offset, a bandwidth portion, a CDRX inactivity timer duration if CDRX is configured for the UE, and the like. In this regard, the associated values of these operating parameters may be selected to achieve one or more operating objectives for the region, such as power saving and / or ensuring that latency requirements are met.
[0065] In some instances, the first region is a power saving region and includes an operating parameter set configured to provide power saving to UE 115-a. For example, the power saving region may have an offset (e.g., K0>0) between the time slot in which the scheduled downlink control information is transmitted (e.g., on the PDCCH) and the time slot in which the associated scheduled data is transmitted (e.g., on the PDSCH). Having a time slot offset greater than zero can allow cross-slot scheduling of data transmissions, which can facilitate multiplexing of data transmissions for a larger number of simultaneous users (including simultaneous XR users), and if the UE knows based on an earlier downlink scheduling configuration that there are no other downlink channels or signals to receive or no uplink channels or signals to send between the PDCCH and the scheduled PDSCH, the UE is allowed to more frequently adopt lower power operation. In addition, for example, the power saving region may have a bandwidth portion having a smaller bandwidth than the bandwidth portion of the second region. Using a smaller bandwidth may allow UE 115-a to use less resources and / or power to monitor downlink communications. In addition, in some instances, the first region includes an inactivity timer value that promotes power saving. In this regard, the inactivity timer value may be associated with a duration for the UE to remain active for downlink control information monitoring (e.g., on the PDCCH). In some instances, if CDRX is configured for the UE, the inactivity timer value is associated with the CDRX inactivity timer. When the inactivity timer expires and the UE has not detected any downlink control activity, the UE may then enter a sleep mode and / or a reduced power state. Therefore, the power saving region may have an inactivity timer value that is smaller / shorter than the inactivity timer value of the second region to provide additional power savings.
[0066] exist Figure 4 In the illustrated example, the base station 105-b sends one (or more) downlink communications 425-a and 425-b in the first region. One (or more) downlink communications 425-a and 425-b may include downlink configuration communications (e.g., via PDCCH, RRC, MAC-CE) and associated downlink data communications (e.g., via PDSCH). As discussed above, in some instances, downlink data communications may be sent (and received) in a different time slot than the downlink configuration communications based on the operating parameters of the first region.
[0067] At step 430-a, UE 115-a operates based on the second region operating parameters indicated in the power saving configuration received at step 415. Similarly, at step 430-b, base station 105-b performs one (or more) downlink communications based on the second region operating parameters. The operating parameters for the second region may include a time slot offset, a bandwidth portion, a CDRX inactivity timer duration if CDRX is configured for the UE, and the like. In this regard, the associated values of these operating parameters may be selected to achieve one or more operating objectives for the region, such as power saving and / or ensuring that latency requirements are met.
[0068] In some examples, the second region is an emergency transmission region and includes a set of operating parameters configured to ensure that UE 115-a receives downlink data communications within any associated delay requirements. For example, the emergency transmission region may have a zero slot offset (e.g., K0=0) so that downlink control information and associated data are sent in the same slot, or have an offset value that is less than the offset of the power saving region (e.g., K0=0). UTZ <K0 PSZ ). In addition, for example, the emergency transmission area may have a bandwidth portion that is larger than the bandwidth portion of the first area. Using a larger bandwidth for the bandwidth portion of the emergency transmission area can help ensure that the UE successfully receives the downlink communication within the required delayed time frame. In addition, in some instances, the second area includes an inactivity timer value that facilitates successful downlink communication. Therefore, the emergency transmission area may have an inactivity timer value that is larger / longer than the inactivity timer value of the first area to help ensure that the UE successfully receives any downlink scheduling (together with associated data transmission) within the delayed time frame required for downlink data communication.
[0069] At step 440-a, UE 115-a operates based on the third area operating parameters indicated in the power saving configuration received at step 415. Similarly, at step 440-b, base station 105-b performs one (or more) downlink communications based on the third area operating parameters. In some instances, the third area is a no-transmission area and includes a set of operating parameters associated with UE 115-a operating in a sleep mode. The sleep mode can be deep sleep, light sleep, micro sleep, and / or a combination thereof. Accordingly, in some instances, base station 105-b avoids sending one (or more) downlink communications during the third area, such as Figure 4 as shown in .

The RF unit 614 may be configured to process (e.g., perform analog-to-digital conversion or digital-to-analog conversion, etc.) modulated / encoded data (e.g., PDCCH signals, RRC signals, MAC CE signals, PDSCH signals, etc.) from the modem subsystem 612 (on outbound transmissions) or from another source (e.g., UE 115 or 500). The RF unit 614 may also be configured to perform analog beamforming in conjunction with digital beamforming. Although shown as being integrated together in transceiver 610, modem subsystem 612 and / or RF unit 614 may be separate devices that are coupled together at BS 105 to enable BS 105 to communicate with other devices.
[0084] The RF unit 614 may provide modulated and / or processed data (e.g., data packets or, more generally, data messages that may include one or more data packets and other information) to the antenna 616 for transmission to one or more other devices. This may include, for example, transmitting information to the UE 115 or 500 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The antenna 616 may further receive data messages transmitted from other devices and provide the received data messages for processing and / or demodulation at the transceiver 610. The transceiver 610 may provide the demodulated and decoded data (e.g., RACH messages, ACK / NACK for PDCCH signals, UL data, ACK / NACK for DL data, etc.) to the downlink scheduling and control module 608 for processing. The antenna 616 may include multiple antennas of similar or different designs in order to maintain multiple transmission links.
[0085] In one embodiment, the BS 600 may include multiple transceivers 610 that implement different RATs (e.g., NR and LTE). In one embodiment, the BS 600 may include a single transceiver 610 that implements multiple RATs (e.g., NR and LTE). In one embodiment, the transceiver 610 may include various components, where different combinations of components may implement different RATs.
[0086] Figure 7 A scheduling / transmission configuration 700 of a wireless communication method according to some aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. As shown, data 705-a and 705-b of a UE (e.g., UE 115 and / or 500, including an XR device 200) arrive at a base station (e.g., BS 105 and / or 600). As shown, data 705-a and 705-b have a data / frame inter-arrival time 710 between the start of arrival of data 705-a and the start of arrival of data 705-b. Data 705-a and / or 705-b may include a data frame or a data burst, which includes multiple slices or components of data. In some instances, data 705-a and 705-b are associated with XR downlink services. XR downlink services may have a quasi-periodic pattern because underlying data frames are generated quasi-periodically. For example, the frame rate of the XR downlink may be 120 Hz or 60 Hz, which corresponds to a data / frame inter-arrival time 710 of 8.3 ms or 16.7 ms, respectively. It should be appreciated that any inter-frame inter-arrival time 710 may be used, including variable times.
[0087] In some instances, the UE is configured to operate in a DRX mode (including a CDRX mode) where the period of the DRX / CDRX cycle matches the data / frame inter-arrival time 710. For example, in some instances, the start of an active state of the DRX / CDRX cycle may be aligned in time with the start of arrival of data 705-a and / or 705-b. In some instances, the period of the DRX / CDRX cycle and / or the active state or dormant state of the DRX / CDRX cycle may be offset relative to the data / frame inter-arrival time 710.
[0088] Data 705-a may have a delay budget 715. The delay budget 715 may be associated with the delay of 705-a. For example, the delay budget 715 may define a time period in which the UE should receive data 705-a to ensure smooth operation of the underlying application to which the data 705-a is directed. For example, in the case where the data 705-a is XR data, the delay budget 715 may be 5ms (e.g., for 120Hz / 8.3ms data / frame inter-arrival time), 10ms (e.g., for 60Hz / 16.7ms data / frame inter-arrival time), or other suitable values. In some instances, the delay budget 715 will be less than the data / frame inter-arrival time 710. In addition, in some instances, data 705-a should be received within an active state of a DRX / CDRX cycle. Accordingly, in some instances, the delay budget 715 may be based at least in part on the DRX / CDRX cycle timing. In some examples, the base station utilizes the traffic (e.g., data 705-a and 705-b) of the UE and / or other UEs connected to the base station, data / frame inter-arrival time 710, delay budget 715, DRX / CDRX cycle timing, and / or other communication parameters to determine the power saving configuration of the UE (and / or other UEs connected to the base station). Figure 3 and 4 As discussed, the base station may send the power saving configuration to the UE via at least one of a radio resource control (RRC) configuration, downlink control information (DCI), or a medium access control control element (MAC-CE). Figure 7 Downlink communication between a base station and a UE according to a power saving configuration is shown.
[0089] In some examples, the power saving configuration indicates one or more regions (e.g., one or more power saving regions, one or more emergency transmission regions, and / or one or more no transmission regions) and associated operating parameters for the UE to use when receiving downlink communications from the base station. Figure 7 In the example shown, three different regions are illustrated (i.e., first region 720, second region 725, and third region 730). However, it should be understood that any number of regions may be used. It should also be understood that multiple regions of the same or similar type may be used, including having one or more different operating parameters between the same or similar region types. Data 705-a may be transmitted to the UE in multiple slices over multiple time slots that together constitute a data burst. For example, in Figure 7 In the illustrated embodiment, control information 740 and data 750 are transmitted to the UE in multiple time slots, as indicated by control information 740-a, 740-b, 740-c, 740-d and 740-e and data 750-a, 750-b, 750-c, 750-d and 750-e.
[0090] In the first region 720, the UE operates based on the first region operating parameters indicated in the power saving configuration. Similarly, the base station performs one (or more) downlink communications based on the first region operating parameters. The UE operating parameters of the first region 720 may include a time slot offset, a bandwidth portion, a CDRX inactivity timer duration (if the UE is configured with CDRX), and the like. The first region 720 may be a power saving region and include a set of operating parameters configured to provide power saving to the UE. For example, the first region 720 may have an offset (e.g., K0>0) between the time slot in which the scheduled downlink control information 740 is transmitted (e.g., on the PDCCH) and the time slot in which the associated scheduled data 750 is transmitted (e.g., on the PDSCH). Having a time slot offset greater than zero can allow cross-slot scheduling of data transmission, which can facilitate multiplexing of data transmissions for a larger number of simultaneous users (including simultaneous XR users). In the illustrated example, the time slot offset in the first region 720 is shown as follows: the time slots in which the control information 740-a, 740-b, and 740-c are transmitted are offset relative to the time slots in which the corresponding data 750-a, 750-b, and 750-c are transmitted. Specifically, in the illustrated example, each time slot for data 750-a, 750-b, and 750-c is offset by one time slot relative to the control information 740a, 740-b, and 740-c, respectively. However, it should be understood that in other cases, the offset can be different (e.g., 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.).
[0091] In addition, for example, the first area 720 may have a bandwidth portion that is smaller than the bandwidth portion of the second area 725. Using a smaller bandwidth may allow the UE to use less resources and / or power to monitor downlink communications. In addition, in some instances, the first area 720 includes an inactivity timer value that promotes power saving. In this regard, the inactivity timer value may be associated with a duration for the UE to remain active for downlink control information monitoring (e.g., on the PDCCH). In some instances, the inactivity timer value is associated with a CDRX inactivity timer (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX). When the inactivity timer expires and the UE does not detect any activity, the UE may enter a sleep mode and / or reduce a power state. Therefore, the first area 720 may have an inactivity timer value that is smaller / shorter than the inactivity timer value of the second area 725 to provide additional power saving.
[0092] In the second region 725, the UE operates based on the second region operating parameters indicated in the power saving configuration. Similarly, the base station performs one (or more) downlink communications based on the second region operating parameters. The UE operating parameters of the second region 725 may include a time slot offset, a bandwidth portion, a CDRX inactivity timer duration (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX), and the like. The second region 725 may be an emergency transmission region and include a set of operating parameters configured to ensure that the UE receives downlink data communications within any associated delay requirements. For example, the second region 725 may not have an offset (e.g., K0=0) so that the downlink control information and associated data are sent in the same time slot (e.g., Figure 7 ), or having an offset value that is smaller than the offset of the power saving region (e.g., K0 UTZ <K0 PSZ ). In addition, for example, the second region 725 may have a bandwidth portion that is larger than the bandwidth portion of the first region 720. Using a larger bandwidth for the bandwidth portion of the second region 725 can help ensure that the UE successfully receives downlink communications within the delay budget 715. In addition, in some instances, the second region 725 includes an inactivity timer value that facilitates successful downlink communications. In this regard, the inactivity timer value can be associated with a duration for the UE to remain active for downlink control information monitoring (e.g., on the PDCCH). In some instances, the inactivity timer value is associated with a CDRX inactivity timer (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX). When the inactivity timer expires and the UE does not detect any activity, the UE can enter a sleep mode and / or a reduced power state. Accordingly, the second region 725 can have an inactivity timer value that is larger / longer than the inactivity timer value of the first region 720 to help ensure that the UE successfully receives any downlink scheduling (e.g., control information 740-d and / or 740-e) along with associated data transmissions (e.g., data 750-d and / or 750-e) within the delay budget 715 for data 705-a.
[0093] In the third region 730, the UE operates based on the third region operating parameters indicated in the power saving configuration. Similarly, the base station performs one (or more) downlink communications based on the third region operating parameters. In some instances, the third region 730 is a no-transmission region and includes an operating parameter set associated with a UE operating in a sleep mode. The sleep mode can be deep sleep, light sleep, micro sleep, and / or a combination thereof. Therefore, in some instances, the base station avoids sending one (or more) downlink communications during the third region 730, such as Figure 7 shown.
[0094] Fig. 8AThe scheduling / transmission configuration 800 of the wireless communication method according to some aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. As shown in the figure, the scheduling / transmission configuration 800 illustrates a power saving configuration, wherein the first area 810, the second area 820 and the third area 830 are configured in the time domain. That is, each of the first area 810, the second area 820 and the third area 830 is defined for a specific time period and is applicable to a certain operating frequency range. The operating frequency range can be associated with one or more operating frequencies of the base station and / or the UE, and includes all or one or more parts of the operating frequency, including adjacent and / or non-adjacent parts. The timing of the first area 810, the second area 820, and / or the third area 830 can be based on the communication parameters of the UE and / or one or more other UEs, including downlink traffic, data / frame inter-arrival time, delay budget, DRX / CDRX cycle timing, and / or other communication parameters. In some instances, the timing of the first area 810, the second area 820, and / or the third area 830 is determined by the base station and transmitted to the UE as part of the power saving configuration.
[0095] Figure 8B The scheduling / transmission configuration 850 of the wireless communication method according to some aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. As shown, the scheduling / transmission configuration 850 shows a power saving configuration, wherein the first area 810, the second area 820 and the third area 830 are configured in the time domain and the frequency domain. That is, each of the first area 810, the second area 820 and the third area 830 is defined for a specific time period and for a specific operating frequency range (e.g., frequency ranges 860, 870 and 880). Frequency ranges 860, 870 and 880 can be associated with one or more operating frequencies of a base station and / or UE. Although the illustrated example shows that frequency ranges 860, 870 and 880 are adjacent ranges, these frequency ranges may be non-adjacent in other instances (e.g., frequency ranges 860 and 880 can jointly define a frequency range). In some instances, frequency ranges 860, 870 and 880 are determined by the base station and transmitted to the UE as part of the power saving configuration. In addition, the timing of the first region 810, the second region 820, and / or the third region 830 within each of the frequency ranges 860, 870, and 880 may be based on communication parameters of the UE and / or one or more other UEs, including downlink traffic, data / frame inter-arrival time, delay budget, DRX / CDRX cycle timing, and / or other communication parameters. In some instances, the timing of the first region 810, the second region 820, and / or the third region 830 within each of the frequency ranges 860, 870, and 880 is determined by the base station and transmitted to the UE as part of a power saving configuration.
[0096] exist Figure 8BIn the illustrated example, the frequency region 860 includes Fig. 8A The first region 810, the second region 820, and the third region 830 are arranged in a similar manner in the time domain. In the time domain, the frequency region 870 includes the second region 820, followed by the first region 810, followed by another second region 820, and then followed by the third region 830. The frequency region 880 includes only the first region 810, followed by the second region 820. That is, the frequency region 880 does not include the third region 830. It should be understood that Figure 8B The examples illustrated in are non-limiting, and any combination of regions, frequencies, and timing may be utilized within the scope of the present disclosure.
[0097] Fig. 9 900 is a flow chart of a communication method 900 according to some aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of method 900 may be performed by a wireless communication device (e.g., UE 115 and / or 500 (including XR device 200)) utilizing one or more components (e.g., processor 502, memory 504, downlink scheduling and control module 508, transceiver 510, modem 512, one or more antennas 516, and various combinations thereof). As illustrated, method 900 includes a plurality of enumerated steps, but method 900 may include additional steps before, after, and between the enumerated steps. For example, in some instances, one or more aspects of technique 300, method 400, and / or scheduling / transmission configurations 800 and / or 850 may be implemented as part of method 900. In some instances, one or more of the enumerated steps may be omitted or performed in a different order.
[0098] At step 910, method 900 includes: while in connected mode, receiving a configuration for data services based on the wireless communication device. The configuration may be received via at least one of a radio resource control (RRC) configuration, downlink control information (DCI), or a medium access control element (MAC-CE). The configuration may indicate a first region associated with a first set of operating parameters of the wireless communication device and a second region associated with a second set of operating parameters of the wireless communication device. The second set of operating parameters may be different from the first set of operating parameters. In some instances, the first region is a power saving region having corresponding operating parameters that help save power resources of the wireless communication device, and the second region is an emergency transmission region having corresponding operating parameters that help ensure that delay requirements for downlink communication signals (including XR downlink communication signals) are met. Each of the first region and the second region may be defined based on at least one of a time domain, a frequency domain, or a combination of a time domain and a frequency domain (see, e.g., Figure 4 , Figure 7 , Fig. 8A and Figure 8B ).
[0099] The operating parameters for the first region and the second region may include a time slot offset, a bandwidth portion, a CDRX inactivity timer duration (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX), etc. In this regard, the associated values of these operating parameters may be selected to achieve one or more operating goals for the region, such as power conservation and / or ensuring that latency requirements are met.
[0100] In some instances, the first set of operating parameters includes a first time slot offset, and the second set of operating parameters includes a second time slot offset. The second time slot offset may be smaller than the first time slot offset. For example, where the first area is a power saving area and the second area is an emergency transmission area, the power saving area may have an offset (e.g., K0>0) between the time slot in which the scheduled downlink control information (e.g., on the PDCCH) is transmitted and the time slot in which the associated scheduled data (e.g., on the PDSCH) is transmitted. Having a time slot offset greater than zero allows cross-slot scheduling of data transmission, which can facilitate multiplexing of data transmissions for a greater number of simultaneous users (including simultaneous XR users) compared to allowing only simultaneous slot scheduling. For example, a greater number of downlink data communications (including XR data communications) can be scheduled within the delay requirements required for the communication. In addition, the emergency transmission area may not have an offset (e.g., K0=0) so that the downlink control information and the associated data are sent in the same time slot, or have an offset value (e.g., K0>0) that is smaller than the offset of the power saving area. UTZ <K0 PSZ ).
[0101] In some instances, the first set of operating parameters includes a first bandwidth and the second set of operating parameters includes a second bandwidth. The second bandwidth may be greater than the first bandwidth. For example, where the first area is a power saving area and the second area is an emergency transmission area, the power saving area may have a bandwidth portion having a smaller bandwidth than a bandwidth portion of the emergency transmission area. Using a smaller bandwidth may allow the UE to use less resources and / or power to monitor communications. On the other hand, using a larger bandwidth for the bandwidth portion of the emergency transmission area may help ensure that the UE successfully receives downlink communications within the required delay time frame.
[0102] In some instances, the first operating parameter set includes a first inactivity timer value, and the second operating parameter set includes a second inactivity timer value. The second inactivity timer value may be greater than the first inactivity timer value. For example, in some instances, the first and second inactivity timer values are associated with a duration for the UE to remain active for downlink control information monitoring (e.g., on the PDCCH). In some instances, the inactivity timer is a CDRX inactivity timer (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX). When the inactivity timer expires and the UE does not detect any activity, the UE may enter a sleep mode and / or a reduced power state. Therefore, in some instances where the first area is a power saving area and the second area is an emergency transmission area, the power saving area may have an inactivity timer value that is less than the inactivity timer value of the emergency transmission area to provide additional power savings. On the other hand, the emergency transmission area may use a longer inactivity timer value to help ensure that the UE successfully receives any downlink scheduling (together with associated data transmission) within the delay time frame required for downlink data communication.
[0103] At step 920, method 900 includes operating in a first region using a first set of operating parameters to monitor a first downlink communication signal. In some instances, the data service may include extended reality (XR) data of a wireless communication device, and the first downlink communication signal may include an XR downlink communication signal. In this regard, the configuration (including associated operating parameters of the first region and the second region) may be determined and / or selected based on the XR data of the wireless communication device. In some instances, operating in the first region includes operating in a power saving region using a corresponding set of operating parameters (e.g., time slot offset, bandwidth portion, CDRX inactivity timer duration (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX), etc.), as discussed above. Therefore, in some instances, step 920 may include: receiving a downlink control signal in a first time slot, and receiving a downlink data signal in a different second time slot based on the time slot offset.
[0104] At step 930, method 900 includes operating in the second region using a second set of operating parameters. In some instances, operating in the second region includes operating in an emergency transmission region using a corresponding set of operating parameters (e.g., time slot offset, bandwidth portion, CDRX inactivity timer duration (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX), etc.), as discussed above. Thus, in some instances, step 930 may include monitoring a second downlink communication signal.
[0105] In some instances, the wireless communication device is configured for DRX. In such instances, the method 900 can provide additional power savings to the wireless communication device beyond the power savings that DRX (including CDRX) can provide alone. In other instances, the wireless communication device is not configured for DRX. In such instances, the method 900 can provide power savings that would not otherwise be available to the wireless communication device.
[0106] In some instances, the configuration received at step 910 also indicates a third region associated with a sleep mode of the wireless communication device. The configuration may also indicate that one or more of the first, second, or third regions occur during the active time of a connected mode discontinuous reception (CDRX) cycle of the wireless communication device. The configuration may further indicate that at least one of the first or second regions is aligned in time with the start of the active time of the CDRX cycle. The configuration may also indicate that the third region is configured so that the active time of the CDRX cycle terminates early. The configuration may be specific to a wireless communication device and / or a group of wireless communication devices. In addition, the configuration specific to a wireless communication device or a group of wireless communication devices may be changed or updated dynamically (e.g., for each data frame or set of data frames, when a predetermined event occurs, according to the timing and / or self-determination of the base station, etc.), semi-statically (e.g., maintaining the indicated region and / or operating parameters until an updated configuration is received and / or a triggering event occurs), periodically (e.g., updated based on a predefined schedule or timer), and / or a combination thereof. In some instances, the configuration is based on an XR data service of the wireless communication device and is used by the wireless communication device for XR data reception.
[0107] Fig.10 1 is a flow chart of a communication method 1000 according to some aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of method 1000 may be performed by a wireless communication device (e.g., BS 105 and / or 600) using one or more components (e.g., processor 602, memory 604, downlink scheduling and control module 608, transceiver 610, modem 612, one or more antennas 616, and various combinations thereof). As illustrated, method 1000 includes a plurality of enumerated steps, but method 1000 may include additional steps before, after, and between the enumerated steps. For example, in some instances, one or more aspects of technique 300, method 400, and / or scheduling / transmission configurations 800 and / or 850 may be implemented as part of method 1000. In some instances, one or more of the enumerated steps may be omitted or performed in a different order.
[0108] At step 1010, method 1000 includes sending a configuration based on a data service of the wireless communication device to a wireless communication device in a connected mode. The configuration may be sent via at least one of a radio resource control (RRC) configuration, downlink control information (DCI), or a medium access control control element (MAC-CE). The configuration may be a first region associated with a first operating parameter set of the wireless communication device and a second region associated with a second operating parameter set of the wireless communication device. The second operating parameter set may be different from the first operating parameter set. In some instances, the first region is a power saving region having corresponding operating parameters that help save power resources of the wireless communication device, and the second region is an emergency transmission region having corresponding operating parameters that help ensure that delay requirements of downlink communication signals (including XR downlink communication signals) are met. Each of the first region and the second region may be defined based on at least one of a time domain, a frequency domain, or a combination of a time domain and a frequency domain (see, e.g., Figure 4 , Figure 7 , Fig. 8A and Figure 8B ).
[0109] The operating parameters for the first region and the second region may include a time slot offset, a bandwidth portion, a CDRX inactivity timer duration (e.g., when the UE is configured with CDRX), etc. In this regard, the associated values of these operating parameters may be selected to achieve one or more operating goals for the region, such as power conservation and / or ensuring that latency requirements are met.
[0110] In some instances, the first set of operating parameters includes a first time slot offset, and the second set of operating parameters includes a second time slot offset. The second time slot offset may be smaller than the first time slot offset. For example, where the first region is a power saving region and the second region is an emergency transmission region, the power saving region may have an offset (e.g., K0>0) between a time slot in which scheduled downlink control information is transmitted (e.g., on a PDCCH) and a time slot in which associated scheduled data is transmitted (e.g., on a PDSCH). Having a time slot offset greater than zero allows cross-slot scheduling of data transmissions, which can facilitate multiplexing of data transmissions for a greater number of simultaneous users (including simultaneous XR users) compared to allowing only simultaneous slot scheduling. For example, a greater number of downlink data communications (including XR data communications) can be scheduled within the delay requirements required for the communication. In addition, the emergency transmission region may not have an offset (e.g., K0=0) so that the downlink control information and the associated data are sent in the same time slot, or have an offset value (e.g., K0>0) that is smaller than the offset of the power saving region. UTZ <K0 PSZ ).
[0111] In some instances, the first set of operating parameters includes a first bandwidth and the second set of operating parameters includes a second bandwidth.
[0112] In some instances, the first operating parameter set includes a first inactivity timer value, and the second operating parameter set includes a second inactivity timer value.
[0113] At step 1020, method 1000 includes sending a downlink communication signal to the wireless communication device based on the configuration. In some instances, the data service may include extended reality (XR) data of the wireless communication device, and the first downlink communication signal may include an XR downlink communication signal. In this regard, the configuration (including associated operating parameters of the first region and the second region) may be determined and / or selected by the base station based on the XR data of the wireless communication device. In some instances, step 1020 may include: in the first region, sending a downlink control signal in a first time slot; and in the first region, based on a time slot offset, sending a downlink data signal in a different second time slot. In some instances, step 1020 may also include sending an additional downlink data signal in the second region.
[0114] In some instances, the wireless communication device is configured for DRX. In such instances, the method 1000 can provide additional power savings to the wireless communication device beyond the power savings that DRX (including CDRX) can provide alone. In other instances, the wireless communication device is not configured for DRX. In such instances, the method 1000 can provide power savings that are not otherwise available to the wireless communication device.
[0115] In some instances, the configuration sent at step 1010 also indicates a third region associated with a sleep mode of the wireless communication device. Accordingly, in some instances, sending a downlink communication signal to the wireless communication device based on the configuration includes: the base station avoids sending a downlink communication signal during the third region. The configuration may also indicate that one or more of the first region, the second region, or the third region occurs during the active time of a connected mode discontinuous reception (CDRX) cycle of the wireless communication device. The configuration may further indicate that at least one of the first region or the second region is aligned in time with the start of the active time of the CDRX cycle. [0116] The configuration may be specific to a wireless communication device and / or a group of wireless communication devices. In addition, the configuration for a specific wireless communication device or group of wireless communication devices may be changed or updated by the base station dynamically (e.g., for each data frame or set of data frames, upon occurrence of a predetermined event, according to the timing and / or discretion of the base station, etc.), semi-statically (e.g., maintaining the indicated area and / or operating parameters until an updated configuration is received and / or a triggering event occurs), periodically (e.g., updated based on a predefined schedule or timer), and / or a combination thereof.
[0117] In some instances, method 1000 also includes determining and / or selecting, by the base station, a configuration and / or one or more operating parameters for each operating region.
