Abstract

An optical fiber ribbon core wire (1A) includes a plurality of optical fiber core wires (11) arranged side by side in a direction orthogonal to a longitudinal direction, and a unitary coating layer (20) that coats outer peripheries of the plurality of optical fiber core wires (11). The unitary coating layer (20) includes a joint portion (21) that joins adjacent optical fiber core wires (11) in at least a portion of the plurality of optical fiber core wires (11). Outer diameters of the plurality of optical fiber core wires (11) are each 215 μm or less. In a cross-sectional view of the optical fiber core wire (11), the unitary coating layer (20) includes a thick wall portion (22) and at least two thin wall portions (23) in which a thickness of the unitary coating layer (20) is thinner than a thickness of the unitary coating layer (20) in the thick wall portion (22). A difference between the thickness of the unitary coating layer (20) in the thick wall portion (22) and the thickness of the unitary coating layer (20) in the thin wall portion (23) is 5 μm or more and 19 μm or less.

Claims

1. An optical fiber with a core, comprising: Multiple fiber cores arranged side-by-side in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction, and An integral coating covering the outer periphery of each of the plurality of optical fiber cores. The integral coating includes, in at least a portion of the plurality of optical fiber cores, a connection portion that connects adjacent optical fiber cores. The outer diameter of each of the multiple optical fiber cores is less than 215 μm. In a cross-sectional view of the optical fiber core, the integral coating has a thick-walled portion and at least two thin-walled portions, wherein the thickness of the integral coating in the thin-walled portions is thinner than the thickness of the integral coating in the thick-walled portions. The difference between the thickness of the integral coating layer in the thick-walled portion and the thickness of the integral coating layer in the thin-walled portion is 5 μm to 19 μm. The integral coating has non-connected portions where adjacent fiber cores do not contact each other. The thick-walled portion and the thin-walled portion are formed in the non-connected portion.

2. The optical fiber ribbon core according to claim 1, wherein, The distance between the centers of adjacent optical fiber cores is between 220 μm and 280 μm.

3. The optical fiber ribbon core according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein, The integral coating includes, in at least a portion of the plurality of optical fiber cores, unconnected portions of adjacent optical fiber cores. The connecting portion is formed intermittently in the longitudinal direction.

4. The optical fiber ribbon core according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein, The plurality of optical fiber cores include a first optical fiber core with a first outer diameter and a second optical fiber core with a second outer diameter.

5. The optical fiber ribbon core according to claim 3, wherein, The plurality of optical fiber cores include a first optical fiber core with a first outer diameter and a second optical fiber core with a second outer diameter.

6. The optical fiber ribbon core according to claim 4, wherein, The first outer diameter is different from the second outer diameter.

7. The optical fiber ribbon core according to claim 5, wherein, The first outer diameter is different from the second outer diameter.
