Abstract

An optimal control strategy for a distributed low voltage system with unidirectional DC / DC converters for a vehicle system is presented. The DC / DC converters regulate high voltage from high voltage battery modules and output the regulated current to low voltage batteries. A control system differentially varies the current input to the DC / DC converters to balance state of charge in the high voltage battery modules by calculating sets of currents that balance state of charge in the high voltage battery modules based on a value of a low voltage regulator current before knowing the value of the low voltage regulator current, interpolating the sets of currents to be input to the DC / DC converters in response to receiving the value of the low voltage regulator current, and selecting an interpolated set of currents from the sets as input to the DC / DC converters according to the received value.
