[0052] In some wireless communication systems, a communication device (e.g., user equipment (UE), network entity) may use paired operating bands (e.g., frequency range 1 (FR1) radio spectrum band or frequency range 2 (FR2) radio spectrum band) or unpaired operating bands of radio spectrum bands to support wireless communication. As described herein, a paired operating band may refer to an operating band that includes a first set of frequencies configured for reception at a communication device (e.g., a first continuous frequency range that may be referred to as a frequency band, operating band, or carrier and may include a subcarrier range or set) and a second set of frequencies paired with the first set of frequencies and configured for transmission at the communication device (e.g., another continuous frequency range that may also be referred to as a frequency band, operating band, or carrier and may include a subcarrier range or set). In some examples of paired operating bands, the first set of frequencies (e.g., a first frequency band, a first operating band, a first carrier) and the second set of frequencies (e.g., a second frequency band, a second operating band, a second carrier) may not overlap in frequency (e.g., be separated in frequency, or have a frequency range or subcarrier set between and separating the two sets of frequencies in frequency). Additionally or alternatively, as described herein, an unpaired operating band may refer to a set of frequencies (eg, a range of frequencies that may be referred to as a frequency band, operating band, or carrier) that may be used for both transmission and reception at a communication device.
[0053] For example, a communication device may be able to use paired operating bands via frequency division duplex (FDD) or use unpaired operating bands via time division duplex (TDD) for concurrent uplink and downlink communications. Using two paired operating bands (e.g., via FDD) to concurrently perform uplink and downlink communications can reduce delays and improve the predictability of delays (e.g., the delays experienced at the communication device). However, in some examples, the time-frequency resource allocation for uplink and downlink communications via FDD may be rigid (e.g., fixed, inflexible), which may lead to inefficient utilization of time-frequency resources within a wireless communication system. For example, if the density of communication devices operating within a wireless communication system is relatively high, inefficient utilization of time-frequency resources may lead to performance degradation. Using TDD to concurrently perform uplink and downlink communications can provide increased flexibility for the allocation of time-frequency resources (e.g., unpaired operating bands), which can improve resource utilization within a wireless communication system.
[0054] Various aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to techniques for flexible channel structures for paired radio spectrum bands, and more specifically to techniques for using TDD and FDD with paired operating bands. For example, the techniques described herein may implement TDD operation with paired operating bands (e.g., operating bands that may be configured for FDD operation) to provide flexible resource allocation while maintaining reduced latency. In some examples, a communication device (e.g., a UE) may be configured to use paired operating bands (e.g., a pair of carriers) comprising a first carrier and a second carrier separated in frequency from the first carrier. The UE may perform FDD using the first carrier and the second carrier, and perform TDD using the second carrier. That is, the first carrier may be used to transmit from the UE or to receive at the UE, and the second carrier may be used to transmit from the UE and to receive at the UE.
[0055] In some examples, the network may configure the UE to perform FDD using the first carrier and the second carrier and to perform TDD using the second carrier. For example, the network may indicate to the UE one or more rules (e.g., and one or more parameters) for switching between transmission and reception using the second carrier (e.g., switching between a bandwidth part (BWP) of a carrier that can be configured for transmission at the UE and another BWP of a carrier that can be configured for reception at the UE). Additionally or alternatively, the network may indicate to the UE a mapping of the first carrier and the second carrier to multiple (e.g., different) transmission channels, multiple communication directions (e.g., downlink, uplink, and sidelink), or both. In some examples, the network may use the first carrier and the second carrier to schedule transmission or reception (or both) at the UE. For example, the network may indicate to the UE to use the first carrier or the second carrier (or both) to send feedback. Additionally or alternatively, the network may configure the UE to use the first carrier or the second carrier (or both) to perform a random access procedure and channel state information (CSI) measurement.
[0056] Certain aspects of the subject matter described herein may be implemented to achieve one or more of the following potential advantages. The techniques employed by the described communication device may provide benefits and enhancements to the operation of the communication device, including enabling a UE to perform FDD using a first carrier of a paired operating band and a second carrier of a paired operating band, and to perform TDD using the second carrier. For example, the operations performed by the described communication device may provide flexible resource allocation and reduced latency. In some specific implementations, the operations performed by the described communication device may also support increased resource utilization, increased throughput, and increased data rates, among other possible benefits.
[0057] Aspects of the present disclosure are first described in the context of a wireless communication system. Aspects of the present disclosure are also described in the context of a carrier configuration map, a resource allocation map, and a carrier scheduling map. Aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described by and with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow diagrams related to a flexible channel structure for paired radio spectrum bands.
[0058] Figure 1 An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting a flexible channel structure for paired radio spectrum bands according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more network entities 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, an Advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, a New Radio (NR) network, or a network operating according to other systems and radio technologies, including future systems and radio technologies not explicitly mentioned herein.
[0059] The network entities 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may include devices in different forms or with different capabilities. In various examples, the network entities 105 may be referred to as network elements, mobility elements, radio access network (RAN) nodes, or network equipment, among other nomenclature. In some examples, the network entities 105 and the UE 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125 (e.g., radio frequency (RF) access links). For example, the network entity 105 may support a coverage area 110 (e.g., a geographic coverage area) within which the UE 115 and the network entity 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area within which the network entity 105 and the UE 115 may support signal communications according to one or more radio access technologies (RATs).
[0060] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary or mobile, or stationary and mobile at different times. The UEs 115 may be devices in different forms or with different capabilities. Figure 1 Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be capable of supporting communication with various types of devices such as Figure 1 Other UEs 115 or network entities 105 are shown communicating.
[0061] As described herein, a node of the wireless communication system 100 (which may be referred to as a network node or a wireless node) may be a network entity 105 (e.g., any network entity described herein), a UE 115 (e.g., any UE described herein), a network controller, an apparatus, a device, a computing system, one or more components, or another suitable processing entity configured to perform any of the techniques described herein. For example, the node may be a UE 115. As another example, the node may be a network entity 105. As another example, a first node may be configured to communicate with a second node or a third node. In one aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a UE 115. In another aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a network entity 105. In other aspects of this example, the first node, the second node, and the third node may be different relative to these examples. Similarly, references to UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, etc. may include disclosure of UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, etc. as nodes. For example, a disclosure that UE 115 is configured to receive information from network entity 105 also discloses that the first node is configured to receive information from a second node.
[0062] In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or with each other, or both. For example, the network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul communication links 120 (e.g., according to S1, N2, N3, or other interface protocols). In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with each other via the backhaul communication links 120 (e.g., according to X2, Xn, or other interface protocols) directly (e.g., directly between the network entities 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130). In some examples, the network entities 105 may communicate with each other via the midhaul communication links 162 (e.g., according to the midhaul interface protocol) or the fronthaul communication links 168 (e.g., according to the fronthaul interface protocol) or any combination thereof. The backhaul communication links 120, the midhaul communication links 162, or the fronthaul communication links 168 may be or include one or more wired links (e.g., electrical links, optical fiber links), one or more wireless links (e.g., radio links, wireless optical links), etc. or various combinations thereof. UE 115 may communicate with core network 130 via communication link 155 .
[0063] One or more of the network entities 105 described herein may include or may be referred to as a base station 140 (e.g., a transceiver base station, a radio base station, an NR base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a Node B, an evolved Node B (eNB), a next-generation Node B, or a Gigabit Node B (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a 5G NB, a next-generation eNB (ng-eNB), a Home Node B, a Home Evolved Node B, or other suitable terms). In some examples, the network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may be implemented in an aggregated (e.g., monolithic, stand-alone) base station architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically integrated within a single network entity 105 (e.g., a single RAN node, such as a base station 140).
[0064] In some examples, the network entity 105 may be implemented in a disaggregated architecture (e.g., a disaggregated base station architecture, a disaggregated RAN architecture) that may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed between two or more network entities 105, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance), or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN)). For example, the network entity 105 may include one or more of the following: a central unit (CU) 160, a distributed unit (DU) 165, a radio unit (RU) 170, a RAN intelligent controller (RIC) 175 (e.g., a near real-time RIC (near RT RIC), a non-real-time RIC (non-RT RIC)), a service management and orchestration (SMO) 180 system, or any combination thereof. The RU 170 may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH), a remote radio unit (RRU), or a transmit receive point (TRP). One or more components of the network entity 105 in the decomposed RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entity 105 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations). In some examples, one or more network entities 105 of the decomposed RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., virtual CU (VCU), virtual DU (VDU), virtual RU (VRU)).
[0065] The functional split between CU 160, DU 165, and RU 170 is flexible and may support different functionalities depending on which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, RF functions, and any combination thereof) are performed at CU 160, DU 165, or RU 170. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between CU 160 and DU 165 such that CU 160 may support one or more layers of a protocol stack and DU 165 may support one or more different layers of a protocol stack. In some examples, CU 160 may host higher protocol layer (e.g., layer 3 (L3), layer 2 (L2)) functionality and signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC), service data adaptation protocol (SDAP), packet data convergence protocol (PDCP)). The CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170, and the one or more DUs 165 or RUs 170 may host lower protocol layers, such as layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160. Additionally or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between the DUs 165 and RUs 170, such that the DUs 165 may support one or more layers of the protocol stack, and the RUs 170 may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DUs 165 may support one or more different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs 170). In some cases, the functional split between CU 160 and DU 165 or between DU 165 and RU 170 may be within the protocol layer (e.g., some functions of the protocol layer may be performed by one of CU 160, DU 165, or RU 170, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by different ones of CU 160, DU 165, or RU 170). CU 160 may be further functionally split into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. CU 160 may be connected to one or more DUs 165 via midhaul communication links 162 (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u), and DU 165 may be connected to one or more RUs 170 via fronthaul communication links 168 (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface). In some examples, midhaul communication link 162 or fronthaul communication link 168 may be implemented based on an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 105 that communicate via such communication links.
[0066] In some wireless communication systems (e.g., wireless communication system 100), infrastructure and spectrum resources for radio access may support wireless backhaul link capabilities to supplement wired backhaul connections, thereby providing an IAB network architecture (e.g., to core network 130). In some cases, in an IAB network, one or more network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) may be partially controlled by each other. One or more IAB nodes 104 may be referred to as donor entities or IAB donors. One or more DUs 165 or one or more RUs 170 may be controlled in part by one or more CUs 160 associated with a donor network entity 105 (e.g., donor base station 140). One or more donor network entities 105 (e.g., IAB donors) may communicate with one or more additional network entities 105 (e.g., IAB nodes 104) via supported access and backhaul links (e.g., backhaul communication links 120). The IAB node 104 may include an IAB mobile terminal (IAB-MT) controlled (e.g., scheduled) by a coupled IAB donor's DU 165. The IAB-MT may include an independent set of antennas for relaying communications with the UE 115, or may share the same antennas of the IAB node 104 (e.g., of the RU 170) for access via the DU 165 of the IAB node 104 (e.g., referred to as a virtual IAB-MT (vIAB-MT)). In some examples, the IAB node 104 may include a DU 165 that supports communication links with additional entities (e.g., IAB node 104, UE 115) within a relay chain or configuration (e.g., downstream) of the access network. In such cases, one or more components of the decomposed RAN architecture (e.g., one or more IAB nodes 104 or components of the IAB node 104) may be configured to operate according to the techniques described herein.
[0067] In the case where the techniques described herein are applied to the context of a disaggregated RAN architecture, one or more components of the disaggregated RAN architecture may be configured to support a flexible channel structure for paired radio spectrum bands as described herein. For example, some operations described as being performed by a UE 115 or a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may additionally or alternatively be performed by one or more components of the disaggregated RAN architecture (e.g., an IAB node 104, a DU 165, a CU 160, a RU 170, a RIC 175, a SMO 180).
[0068] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable term, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, etc. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.
[0069] The UE 115 described herein may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, which may sometimes act as relays, as well as network entities 105 and network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, or relay base stations, etc. Figure 1 shown.
[0070] UE 115 and network entity 105 can use resources associated with one or more carriers to communicate with each other wirelessly via one or more communication links 125 (e.g., access links). The term "carrier" may refer to a set of operating frequency band resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting communication link 125. For example, a carrier for communication link 125 may include a portion of an operating frequency band (e.g., BWP) that operates according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-APro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may support communication with UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. According to the carrier aggregation configuration, UE 115 may be configured to have multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers. Carrier aggregation can be used with FDD and TDD component carriers. Communication between the network entity 105 and other devices may refer to communication between these devices and any portion (e.g., entity, sub-entity) of the network entity 105. For example, the terms "send," "receive," or "communicate" when referring to the network entity 105 may refer to any portion of the network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, CU 160, DU 165, RU 170) of the RAN communicating with another device (e.g., directly or via one or more other network entities 105).
[0071] In some examples, such as in a carrier aggregation configuration, a carrier may also have acquisition signaling or control signaling that coordinates the operation of other carriers. A carrier may be associated with a frequency channel (e.g., an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) Absolute RF Channel Number (EARFCN)) and may be identified according to a channel raster for discovery by UE 115. A carrier may operate in a standalone mode, in which case initial acquisition and connection may be made by UE 115 via the carrier, or a carrier may operate in a non-standalone mode, in which case a different carrier (e.g., of the same or different radio access technology) is used to anchor the connection.
[0072] The communication link 125 shown in the wireless communication system 100 may include downlink transmissions (e.g., forward link transmissions) from the network entity 105 to the UE 115, uplink transmissions (e.g., return link transmissions) from the UE 115 to the network entity 105, or both, as well as other transmission configurations. A carrier may carry downlink communications or uplink communications (e.g., in FDD mode), or may be configured to carry downlink communications and uplink communications (e.g., in TDD mode).
[0073] A carrier may be associated with a particular bandwidth of an operating band, and in some examples, the carrier bandwidth may be referred to as a "system bandwidth" of the carrier or wireless communication system 100. For example, the carrier bandwidth may be one of a set of bandwidths of carriers of a particular radio access technology (e.g., 1.4 megahertz (MHz), 3 MHz, 5 MHz, 10 MHz, 15 MHz, 20 MHz, 40 MHz, or 80 MHz). A device of the wireless communication system 100 (e.g., a network entity 105, a UE 115, or both) may have a hardware configuration that supports communications using a particular carrier bandwidth, or may be capable of being configured to support communications using one of the carrier bandwidths in the set of carrier bandwidths. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may include a network entity 105 or a UE 115 that supports concurrent communications using carriers associated with multiple carrier bandwidths. In some examples, each served UE 115 may be configured to operate using a portion (e.g., a subband, a BWP) or all of the carrier bandwidth.
[0074] The signal waveform transmitted via the carrier may include multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system employing MCM techniques, a resource element may refer to a resource of one symbol period (e.g., the duration of one modulation symbol) and one subcarrier, in which case the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing may be inversely related. The amount of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both), so that a relatively higher amount of resource elements (e.g., in the transmission duration) and a relatively higher order of the modulation scheme may correspond to a relatively higher communication rate. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of operating band resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial resources may increase the data rate or data integrity used for communication with UE 115.
[0075] One or more parameter sets for a carrier may be supported, and the parameter sets may include subcarrier spacing (Δf) and cyclic prefixes. A carrier may be divided into one or more BWPs with the same or different parameter sets. In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured with multiple BWPs. In some examples, a single BWP for a carrier may be active at a given time, and communications of a UE 115 may be constrained to one or more active BWPs.
[0076] The time interval for the network entity 105 or the UE 115 may be expressed in multiples of a basic time unit, which may be, for example, a sampling period T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds, where Δf max It can represent the supported subcarrier spacing, and N f The supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. Time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).
[0077] Each frame may include multiple consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, the frame may be divided into subframes (e.g., in the time domain), and each subframe may be further divided into a certain number of time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include a certain number of symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix appended in front of each symbol period). In some wireless communication systems 100, the time slots may be further divided into mini-time slots associated with one or more symbols. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may be associated with one or more (e.g., N f The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating frequency band.
[0078] A subframe, a time slot, a mini-time slot, or a symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the amount of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in a burst of a shortened TTI (sTTI)).
[0079] Physical channels may be multiplexed using carriers for communication according to various techniques. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed via downlink carriers for signaling, for example, using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) of a physical control channel may be defined by a set of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth of a carrier or a subset of that system bandwidth. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more UEs in UE115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. The aggregation level of a control channel candidate may refer to the amount of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to multiple UEs 115 , and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .
[0080] The network entity 105 may provide communication coverage via one or more cells (e.g., macro cells, small cells, hot spots, or other types of cells, or any combination thereof). The term "cell" may refer to a logical communication entity used to communicate with the network entity 105 (e.g., using a carrier), and may be associated with an identifier used to distinguish adjacent cells (e.g., a physical cell identifier (PCID), a virtual cell identifier (VCID), or other cell identifier). In some examples, a cell may also refer to a coverage area 110 or a portion of a coverage area 110 (e.g., a sector) on which the logical communication entity operates. Depending on various factors such as the capabilities of the network entity 105, such cells may range from smaller areas (e.g., structures, subsets of structures) to larger areas. For example, a cell may be or may include a building, a subset of a building, or an external space between or overlapping coverage areas 110, and the like.
[0081] A macro cell generally covers a relatively large geographic area (e.g., several kilometers in radius) and may allow unrestricted access to UEs 115 that have service subscriptions with a network provider that supports the macro cell. As compared to a macro cell, a small cell may be associated with a lower power network entity 105 (e.g., a lower power base station 140), and the small cell may operate using the same or different (e.g., licensed, unlicensed) frequency band as the macro cell. A small cell may provide unrestricted access to a UE 115 that has a service subscription with a network provider, or may provide restricted access to a UE 115 associated with a small cell (e.g., a UE 115 in a closed subscriber group (CSG), a UE 115 associated with a user in a home or office). A network entity 105 may support one or more cells, and may also use one or more component carriers to support communications via one or more cells.
[0082] In some examples, a carrier may support multiple cells, and different cells may be configured according to different protocol types (e.g., MTC, narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB)) that may provide access to different types of devices.
[0083] In some examples, the network entities 105 (e.g., base stations 140, RUs 170) may be mobile and thus provide communication coverage for mobile coverage areas 110. In some examples, different coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same network entity 105. In some other examples, overlapping coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different network entities 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of network entities 105 provide coverage for respective coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.
[0084] The wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low-latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC). UE 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable or low-latency or critical functions. Ultra-reliable communication may include private communication or group communication, and may be supported by one or more services (such as push-to-talk, video, or data). Support for ultra-reliable, low-latency functions may include prioritization of services, and such services may be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, and ultra-reliable low-latency may be used interchangeably herein.
[0085] In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured to support communication directly with other UEs 115 via a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., according to a peer-to-peer (P2P), D2D, or sidelink protocol). In some examples, one or more UEs 115 in a group that are performing D2D communication may be within a coverage area 110 of a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, a RU 170), which may support aspects of such D2D communication configured by the network entity 105 (e.g., scheduled by the network entity). In some examples, one or more UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the coverage area 110 of the network entity 105, or may otherwise be unable or not configured to receive transmissions from the network entity 105. In some examples, a group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may support a one-to-many (1:M) system, in which each UE 115 transmits to each of the other UEs 115 in the group. In some examples, network entity 105 may facilitate scheduling of resources for D2D communications. In some other examples, D2D communications may be performed between UEs 115 without involving network entity 105.
[0086] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), which may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access layer (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management of UE 115 served by a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be delivered through the user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to the IP service 150 of one or more network operators. IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), or packet-switched streaming services.
[0087] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands that may be in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). Generally speaking, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelength ranges from about one decimeter to one meter in length. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features (which may be referred to as clusters), but these waves may be sufficient to penetrate structures so that macro cells provide services to UEs 115 located indoors. Communications using UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than communications using lower frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.
[0088] The wireless communication system 100 may utilize both licensed operating bands and unlicensed operating bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may employ license assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology using unlicensed bands such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. When operating using unlicensed operating bands, devices such as network entities 105 and UEs 115 may employ carrier sensing for collision detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations using unlicensed bands may be based on carrier aggregation configuration (e.g., LAA) in combination with component carriers operating using licensed bands. Operations using unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, and the like.
[0089] The network entity 105 (e.g., base station 140, RU 170) or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas that can be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication, or beamforming. The antennas of the network entity 105 or UE 115 may be located in one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels, which may support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly such as an antenna tower. In some examples, antennas or antenna arrays associated with the network entity 105 may be located at different geographical locations. The network entity 105 may include an antenna array having a collection of multiple rows and columns of antenna ports that the network entity 105 can use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may include one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support RF beamforming for signals sent via the antenna ports.
[0090] The network entity 105 or UE 115 may use MIMO communication to utilize multipath signal propagation and improve spectral efficiency by sending or receiving multiple signals via different spatial layers. Such a technique may be referred to as spatial multiplexing. The multiple signals may be sent, for example, by a transmitting device via different antennas or different combinations of antennas. Similarly, the multiple signals may be received by a receiving device via different antennas or different combinations of antennas. Each of the multiple signals may be referred to as a separate spatial stream and may carry information associated with the same data stream (e.g., the same codeword) or different data streams (e.g., different codewords). Different spatial layers may be associated with different antenna ports for channel measurement and reporting. MIMO techniques include: single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are sent to the same receiving device; and multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO), in which multiple spatial layers are sent to multiple devices.
[0091] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a network entity 105, a UE 115) to shape or direct an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals conveyed via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating along a particular orientation relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals conveyed via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each of these antenna elements may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular direction (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device or relative to some other direction).
[0092] UE 115 and network entity 105 may support retransmission of data to increase the likelihood of data being successfully received. Hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback is a technique for increasing the likelihood of correctly receiving data via a communication link (e.g., communication link 125, D2D communication link 135). HARQ may include a combination of error detection (e.g., using a cyclic redundancy check (CRC)), forward error correction (FEC), and retransmission (e.g., automatic repeat request (ARQ)). HARQ may improve throughput at the MAC layer under poor radio conditions (e.g., low signal-to-noise ratio conditions). In some examples, a device may support same-slot HARQ feedback, in which case the device may provide HARQ feedback in a specific time slot for data received via a previous symbol in the time slot. In some other examples, the device may provide HARQ feedback in a subsequent time slot or according to some other time interval.
[0093] The wireless communication system 100 can support TDD and FDD using paired operating bands. For example, UE 115 can receive control signaling (e.g., from network entity 105), which includes an indication of a configuration for wireless communication with a wireless device (e.g., another UE 115, network entity 105) using a first operating band (e.g., paired operating band) of a radio spectrum band (e.g., FR1, FR2). The first operating band may include a first carrier paired with a second carrier. The first carrier may be separated from the second carrier in frequency and used for sending from UE 115 or receiving at UE 115, while the second carrier may be used for sending from UE 115 and receiving at UE 115. UE 115 may use the second carrier for both sending and receiving using TDD according to the configuration. In some examples, UE 115 may use the first carrier and the second carrier to communicate messages concurrently with the wireless device. For example, UE 115 may concurrently send multiple messages to a wireless device using the first carrier and the second carrier, concurrently receive multiple messages from a wireless device using the first carrier and the second carrier, or concurrently send one or more messages to a wireless device and receive one or more messages from a wireless device using the first carrier and the second carrier.
[0094] Figure 2 An example of a wireless communication system 200 supporting a flexible channel structure for paired radio spectrum bands according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 may implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100. For example, the wireless communication system 200 may include a UE 215 and a network entity 205, which may be a reference Figure 1 The network entity 205 may operate within a coverage area 210. The coverage area 210 may be as described in reference Figure 1 An example of coverage area 110 is described.
[0095] In some examples, the wireless communication system 200 may be an example of a new radio (NR) system that supports communication using both paired operating bands and unpaired operating bands. As described herein, a paired operating band may refer to an operating band that includes a first set of frequencies configured for reception at UE 215 (e.g., a frequency range that may be referred to as an operating band or carrier) and a second set of frequencies paired with the first set of frequencies and configured for transmission at UE 215 (e.g., another frequency range that may also be referred to as an operating band or carrier). In some examples of paired operating bands, the first set of frequencies (e.g., a first operating band, a first carrier) and the second set of frequencies (e.g., a second operating band, a second carrier) may not overlap in frequency (e.g., separate). Additionally or alternatively, as described herein, an unpaired operating band may refer to a set of frequencies that may be used for both transmission and reception at UE 215 (e.g., a frequency range that may be referred to as an operating band or carrier). In some examples, a paired operating band may be used for FDD at UE 215, and an unpaired operating band may be used for TDD at UE 215. The unpaired operating band can provide increased flexibility in the downlink-uplink ratio (e.g., the ratio between the capacity for transmission from the UE and the capacity for reception at the UE) relative to the paired operating band. For example, using the unpaired operating band, the network entity 205 can flexibly allocate resources of the unpaired operating band for downlink and uplink communications based on traffic conditions (e.g., current traffic conditions) (e.g., increased capacity can be flexibly allocated to downlink reception or uplink transmission at the UE 215). In some examples, reducing the flexibility of the paired operating band (e.g., relatively low flexibility relative to the unpaired operating band) based on traffic conditions (e.g., based on current traffic conditions, such as if downlink traffic is heavier than uplink traffic) may result in underutilization of frequency resources within the wireless communication system 200.
[0096] In some examples, a flexible channel structure for paired radio spectrum bands (e.g., paired operating bands) as described herein can provide one or more enhancements to resource utilization within the wireless communication system 200. For example, the network entity 205 can configure the UE 215 with paired operating bands (e.g., a first operating band 220 and a second operating band 221), which the UE 215 can use to receive (e.g., receive communications) or transmit (e.g., transmit communications) or both. In such an example, the UE 215 can use the first operating band 220 (e.g., one carrier) to receive or transmit communications, and can use the second operating band 221 (e.g., another carrier) to switch between receiving and transmitting (e.g., in the time domain). That is, the flexible channel structure for paired operating bands as described herein can implement TDD (e.g., one or more TDD concepts) for paired operating bands (e.g., the first operating band 220 and the second operating band 221).
[0097] like Figure 2 As illustrated in the example of , the network entity 205 may configure the UE 215 to receive communications from the network entity using the first operating frequency band 220 and switch between sending communications to the network entity 205 and receiving communications from the network entity 205 using the second operating frequency band 221. For example, the UE 215 may receive (e.g., from the network entity 205) control signaling including a configured carrier indication 225 (e.g., carrier indication 225-a, carrier indication 225-b) for wireless communication with a wireless device (e.g., another UE 215, the network entity 205) using a paired operating frequency band (e.g., including the first operating frequency band 220 and the second operating frequency band 221) of a radio spectrum band (e.g., FR1, FR2). The paired operating frequency band may include a first operating frequency band 220 (e.g., a first carrier) paired with a second operating frequency band 221 (e.g., a second carrier). The first operating band 220 can be separated in frequency from the second operating band 221 and used for one of transmission from the UE 215 or reception at the UE 215, while the second operating band 221 can be used for both transmission from the UE 215 and reception at the UE 215. The UE 215 can use the second operating band 221 for both transmission and reception using TDD according to the configuration. In some examples, the UE 215 can communicate messages with the wireless device concurrently using the first operating band 220 and the second operating band 221. For example, the UE 215 can concurrently receive a message 230-a from the network entity 205 and send a message 230-b to the network entity using the first operating band 220 and the second operating band 221, respectively.
[0098] Although Figure 2The examples of the first operating frequency band 220 (e.g., the first carrier) are illustrated as being used for reception at the UE 215, but it should be understood that the first operating frequency band 220 can be used for transmission or reception at the UE 215, and the examples described herein should not be considered to limit the scope of the claims or the present disclosure. Additionally or alternatively, although Figure 2 The example of illustrates that the second operating frequency band 221 (e.g., the second carrier) is used for both transmission and reception at the UE 215, but it should be understood that the UE 215 can switch transmission and reception on the first operating frequency band 220 or the second operating frequency band 221, and the examples described herein should not be considered to limit the scope covered by the claims or the present disclosure. For example, switching between transmission and reception (e.g., in the time domain) can occur on both the first operating frequency band 220 or the second operating frequency band 221. Additionally or alternatively, as described herein, reception at the UE 215 may include downlink reception or sidelink reception (or both), and transmission at the UE 215 may include uplink transmission or sidelink reception (or both). In some examples, configuring the UE 215 to receive communications from the network entity 205 using the first operating frequency band 220 and switching between sending communications to the network entity 205 and receiving communications from the network entity 205 using the second operating frequency band 221 can improve resource utilization within the wireless communication system 200 and other possible benefits.
[0099] Figure 3 An example of a carrier configuration diagram 300 supporting a flexible channel structure for paired radio spectrum bands according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the carrier configuration diagram 300 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100 and the wireless communication system 200. For example, the carrier configuration diagram 300 can be implemented at the UE and the network entity, which can be as described in reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 Examples of corresponding devices described.
[0100] In some examples, the network (e.g., a network entity) may configure the UE to identify an operating band (e.g., a carrier, a frequency resource) for transmission or reception at the UE and another operating band (e.g., another carrier, another set of frequencies) for transmission and reception at the UE in two paired operating bands (e.g., paired spectrum). For example, the network entity may configure the UE to perform operations that may include both TDD and FDD operations (e.g., a combination thereof). Additionally or alternatively, the network entity may provide (e.g., send) multiple band indications (e.g., operating band indications) to the UE (e.g., as part of the configuration).
[0101] In some examples, the network entity may send an indication of a paired carrier (e.g., a paired carrier indication, a paired operating band indication) and an indication of an unpaired carrier (e.g., an unpaired carrier indication, an unpaired operating band indication) to the UE. Figure 3 As illustrated in the example of , the UE may receive a paired carrier indication identifying a paired operating band (e.g., a serving cell, such as n1), the paired operating band including a first operating band 320 to be used for reception at the UE (e.g., downlink reception, sidelink reception) and a second operating band 321 to be used for transmission at the UE (e.g., uplink transmission or sidelink transmission). The first operating band 320 may include a first carrier 325 (e.g., a set of frequencies, such as 2110 MHz–2170 MHz), and the second operating band 321 may include a second carrier 326 (e.g., another set of frequencies, such as 1920 MHz–1980 MHz). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may receive an unpaired carrier indication identifying an unpaired operating band (e.g., another serving cell, such as n2). For example, the unpaired carrier indication may identify the unpaired operating band as the second operating band 321, which may include a second carrier 326 (e.g., the set of frequencies ranging from 1920 MHz–1980 MHz). In some examples, based on receiving the paired carrier indication and the unpaired carrier indication, the UE can determine that the second carrier 326 (e.g., the relatively lower frequency range of the serving cell n1) can be used for both transmission and reception at the UE. Figure 3 The examples illustrate the first operating band 320 as being used for reception at the UE, but it should be understood that the first operating band 320 can be used for transmission or reception at the UE, and the examples described herein should not be construed as limiting the scope of the claims or the present disclosure.
[0102] In some examples, the UE may receive multiple unpaired carrier indications. For example, the UE may receive a first unpaired carrier indication that identifies the first carrier 325 as a supplementary carrier (e.g., a supplementary downlink carrier (SDL) or a supplementary uplink carrier (SUL)) and a second unpaired carrier indication that identifies the second carrier 326 as a normal TDD carrier. In some examples, based on receiving the first unpaired carrier indication and the second unpaired carrier indication, the UE may determine that the first operating band 320 may be used for transmission or reception at the UE, and the second carrier 326 may be used for both transmission and reception at the UE. In some examples, the UE may receive one or more other combinations of unpaired carrier indications that indicate that the first operating band 320 may be used for transmission or reception at the UE, and that the second carrier 326 may be used for both transmission and reception at the UE.
[0103] For example, the UE may receive a first unpaired carrier indication that identifies the first carrier 325 as a normal TDD carrier and a second unpaired carrier indication that identifies the second carrier 326 as a normal TDD carrier. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may receive multiple (e.g., three or four) unpaired carrier indications that identify the first carrier 325 and the second carrier 326 as one or more supplementary carriers. For example, the UE may receive a first unpaired carrier indication that identifies the first carrier 325 as SDL, a second unpaired carrier indication that identifies the second carrier 326 as SDL, and a third unpaired carrier indication that identifies the second carrier 326 as SUL. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may receive a first unpaired carrier indication that identifies the first carrier 325 as SUL, a second unpaired carrier indication that identifies the second carrier 326 as SUL, and a third unpaired carrier indication that identifies the second carrier 326 as SDL. In some examples, the UE may receive a first unpaired carrier indication identifying the first carrier 325 as a SUL, a second unpaired carrier indication identifying the first carrier 325 as another SUL, a third unpaired carrier indication identifying the second carrier 326 as an SDL, and a fourth unpaired carrier indication identifying the second carrier 326 as another SDL.
[0104] In some examples, the unpaired carrier indication may use the operating band number assigned to the corresponding carrier (or one or more other numbers, indicators or indices corresponding to the corresponding operating bands associated with the first carrier 325 and the second carrier 326) to identify the carrier (e.g., the first carrier 325 or the second carrier 326) as a normal TDD carrier or a supplementary carrier (e.g., SUL or SDL). That is, the unpaired carrier indication may use an identifier (e.g., operating band number, indicator or index) associated with the first operating band 325 to identify to the UE whether the first carrier 320 is a normal TDD carrier or a supplementary carrier. Additionally or alternatively, the unpaired carrier indication may use an identifier (e.g., operating band number, indicator or index) associated with the second operating band 326 to identify to the UE whether the second carrier 321 is a normal TDD carrier or a supplementary carrier. In some examples, the association information (e.g., association information between the carrier and the corresponding operating band) may be provided (e.g., indicated) to the UE from a network entity (e.g., via broadcast signaling, dedicated signaling), or configured at the UE in other ways.
[0105] In some other examples, the UE may receive an indication (e.g., one indication) identifying a combination (e.g., hybrid) of TDD and FDD operations at the UE (e.g., for the first carrier 325 and the second carrier 326). For example, the UE may receive an indication that an operating band is assigned for the combination of TDD and FDD operations (e.g., using an operating band number, indicator, or index). That is, the UE may receive an indication that an operating band number, indicator, or index associated with the first operating band 320 is assigned for one or both of TDD or FDD operations, and another indication that an operating band number, indicator, or index associated with the second operating band 321 is assigned for one or both of TDD or FDD operations.
[0106] In some examples, a network entity may configure the UE (or the UE may be configured otherwise) with one or more rules for switching between transmission and reception at the UE (e.g., using the second carrier 326). For example, the UE may perform switching of reception and transmission semi-statically or dynamically. In some examples of semi-static switching between reception and transmission at the UE, the UE may receive an indication that the UE is configured with a TDD configuration (or the UE may be configured otherwise). For example, the UE may receive an indication of a TDD configuration (e.g., via a tdd-UL-DL-ConfigurationCommon information element (IE) or a tdd-UL-DL-ConfigurationDedicated IE), which may indicate one or more durations (e.g., time slots, symbols, time intervals) that the UE may use the second carrier 326 for transmission (e.g., uplink transmission) and one or more other durations (e.g., other time slots, other symbols, other time intervals) that the UE may use the second carrier 326 for reception. Additionally or alternatively, in some examples of dynamic switching between reception and transmission at the UE, the network entity may instruct the UE (e.g., via a medium access control element (MAC-CE) or downlink control information (DCI)) to use the second carrier 326 for transmission or reception.
[0107] In some examples, the UE may utilize a BWP to determine whether to use the carrier 326 for transmission or reception. That is, the UE may switch between using the second carrier 326 for transmission and using the second carrier 326 for reception based on one or more BWPs indicated to the UE for the second carrier 326. For example, the second carrier 326 may be configured (e.g., at the UE) with a first BWP of the second carrier 326 for reception (e.g., downlink reception, sidelink reception) and a second BWP of the second carrier 326 for transmission (e.g., uplink transmission, sidelink transmission). In some examples, the transmission and reception switching (e.g., using the first BWP and the second BWP) may be performed at the UE using one or more BWP switching mechanisms. Additionally or alternatively, a default BWP (e.g., relative to the first active BWP) may be identified at the UE (e.g., implicitly determined) based on the configuration behavior of the carriers within the paired operating band. In some examples, the UE may determine the default BWP of the second carrier 326 (e.g., and the communication direction, such as transmission or reception) based on the paired carrier indication. For example, the UE may receive a paired carrier indication identifying that the second carrier 326 (e.g., a relatively lower frequency range carrier of the paired operating band) is to be used at the UE for transmission (e.g., uplink transmission or sidelink transmission). Thus, if the second carrier 326 is configured with a first BWP to be used for reception and a second BWP to be used for transmission, the UE may identify (e.g., determine, consider) the second BWP (e.g., a BWP configured at the UE for transmission, a transmission BWP) as the default BWP for the second carrier 326.
[0108] In some examples, a carrier (e.g., a second carrier 326) may be configured with multiple BWPs associated with multiple (e.g., different) TDD configurations. For example, the second carrier 326 may be configured with one or more first BWPs for reception (e.g., downlink reception, sidelink reception) and one or more second BWPs for transmission (e.g., uplink transmission, sidelink transmission). In some examples, one or more default BWPs may be identified (e.g., implicitly determined) at the UE based on the configuration behavior of the carrier within the paired operating band. For example, the UE may determine one or more default BWPs (e.g., and a communication direction, such as transmission or reception) for the second carrier 326 based on the configuration behavior of the second carrier 326 within the paired operating band. In some examples, the UE may determine one or more default BWPs (e.g., and a communication direction, such as transmission or reception) for the second carrier 326 based on a paired carrier indication. For example, the UE may receive a paired carrier indication identifying that the second carrier 326 (e.g., a relatively lower frequency range carrier of the paired operating band) is to be used for transmission (e.g., uplink transmission or sidelink transmission), and based on the paired carrier indication, one or more second BWPs (e.g., all BWPs configured for transmission) may be identified (e.g., determined, considered) as the default BWP for the second carrier 326. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may select a transmit-receive ratio based on an associated BWP. For example, the UE may select a transmit-receive ratio from a plurality of (e.g., different) transmit-receive ratios by switching the BWP (e.g., by switching an active BWP at the UE to a BWP associated with the selected transmit-receive ratio).
[0109] In some techniques for transport channel mapping, transport channels and corresponding structures of transport channels may be defined for specific types of communication links (e.g., downlink, uplink, and sidelink). For example, some techniques may utilize mappings (e.g., fixed relationships) between transport channels and signal directions and between transport channels and logical channels, which may be rigid and inflexible. In some examples, in order to achieve one or more enhancements to the throughput of wireless communication between a UE and a network entity, the UE (and the network entity) may use flexible mappings (e.g., relationships between transport channels, logical channels, and signal directions) utilizing multiple (e.g., different) transport channels or logical channels (or both). For example, some techniques for transport channel mapping may consider other structures, such as structures utilizing a side link (e.g., having a downlink and an uplink), which may provide flexible mappings between transport channels and signal directions and between transport channels and logical channels. For example, using such techniques, reception at the UE may include sidelink reception and downlink reception, and transmission at the UE may include sidelink transmission and uplink transmission. In some examples, utilizing a sidelink (e.g., together with a downlink and an uplink) can provide increased flexibility, which can be achieved by relatively frequently utilizing the sidelink to implement additional types of communication links or additional transport channels (e.g., new possible behaviors). For example, a sidelink channel (e.g., a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH)) can be used at the UE to replace one or more (e.g., additional) downlink channels or one or more (e.g., additional) uplink channels. In some examples, the UE can determine whether a particular transport channel can be used for transmission or reception based on an indication from a network entity. For example, the UE can receive an indication identifying (e.g., via a mapping) one or more transport channels that can be used for reception and one or more transport channels that can be used for transmission. In some examples, the UE can receive the indication using layer three (L3) signaling (e.g., RRC signaling), layer two (L2) signaling (e.g., via MAC-CE), or layer one (L1) signaling (e.g., via DCI).
[0110] In some examples, multiple service access points (SAPs) may be used in an L2 signaling path (e.g., an L2 flow), and thereby, a network (e.g., a network entity) may define multiple channel mappings. For example, a quality of service (QoS) flow (e.g., at the SDAP layer of the protocol stack) may be mapped on a downlink bearer or an uplink bearer and a sidelink bearer (e.g., at the PDCP layer of the protocol stack). In some examples, a radio bearer (e.g., from the PDCP layer of the protocol stack) may be mapped on a downlink RLC channel (e.g., a downlink RLC bearer) or an uplink RLC channel (e.g., an uplink RLC bearer) and a sidelink RLC channel (e.g., a sidelink RLC bearer) of the RLC layer. Additionally or alternatively, an RLC channel (e.g., an RLC bearer) may be mapped on a downlink logical channel or an uplink logical channel and a sidelink logical channel (e.g., at the MAC layer of the protocol stack). In some examples, a logical channel may be mapped on a downlink transport channel or an uplink transmission channel and a sidelink transport channel (e.g., at the PHY layer, at L1). In some examples, such mapping (e.g., association between layers of the protocol stack) may be indicated to the UE using control signaling (e.g., control message) in a layer (e.g., any of multiple layers) such as a NAS layer, an RRC layer (e.g., L3), an SDAP layer, a PDCP layer, an RLC layer, a MAC layer, or L1 (e.g., via DCI).
[0111] Figure 4A and Figure 4B Examples of resource allocation diagrams 400 (e.g., resource allocation diagrams 400-a and 400-b, respectively) supporting flexible channel structures for paired radio spectrum bands according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated. In some examples, resource allocation diagrams 400 can implement aspects of wireless communication system 100, wireless communication system 200, and carrier configuration diagram 300. For example, resource allocation diagrams 400 can be implemented at UEs and network entities, which can be as described in reference to Figures 1 to 3 Examples of corresponding devices described.
[0112] In some examples, the network (e.g., via a network entity) may configure the UE to use one of the two paired operating bands (e.g., the first carrier) for transmission or reception at the UE, and to use another operating band (e.g., another paired operating band of the two paired operating bands, an unpaired operating band) for transmission and reception at the UE. For example, the UE may be configured to use a first operating band 420 (e.g., as described in reference Figure 4A The first operating frequency band 420-a described or as referenced Figure 4B The first operating frequency band 420-b described above and the second operating frequency band 421 (eg, as described in reference Figure 4AThe second operating frequency band 421-a described or as referenced Figure 4B In some examples, the UE may be configured to use the first operating band 420 for transmission or reception at the UE, and to use the second operating band 421 for both transmission and reception at the UE. For example, the UE may perform receive and transmit switching using the second operating band 421. In some examples of receive and transmit switching (e.g., using the second operating band 421), the UE may use one or more carriers of the paired operating bands to receive or transmit signals (e.g., messages, communications). In such examples, the UE may use one or more (e.g., several) modeling candidates to determine (e.g., select) a carrier for communicating with a network entity (or one or more other communication devices, one or more other wireless devices).
[0113] For example, Figure 4A As illustrated in the example of , the network can allocate one or more resources to the UE from a resource pool 425, which may include resources of a first carrier of a first operating frequency band 420-a and a second carrier of a second operating frequency band 421-a. In some examples, the UE can use a modeling candidate in which two carriers (e.g., a first carrier of a first operating frequency band 420-a and a second carrier of a second operating frequency band 421-a) can be scheduled using common scheduling information. For example (e.g., for such modeling), frequency resources across multiple carriers (e.g., of a first operating frequency band 420-a and a second operating frequency band 421-a) can be combined (e.g., regarded as) a virtual resource pool (e.g., a virtual resource pool, resource pool 425). That is, resource pool 425 can be an example of a virtual resource pool that includes one or more frequency resources associated with a first carrier of a first operating frequency band 420-a and one or more other resources associated with a second carrier of a second operating frequency band 421-a, and can be used to allocate resources to the UE. In such an example, scheduling information (eg, one piece of scheduling information, such as a single DCI sent from a network entity to a UE) may indicate to the UE an allocation of resources from resource pool 425 .
[0114] In some other examples, such as Figure 4BAs illustrated in the example of , each carrier (e.g., the first carrier of the first operating band 420-a and the second carrier of the second operating band 421-a) can be scheduled by corresponding (e.g., corresponding) scheduling information. For example, the first carrier of the first operating band 420-b can be scheduled by signaling received at the UE using the first carrier (e.g., or one or more other carriers of the first operating band 420-b), and the second carrier of the second operating band 421-b can be scheduled by signaling received at the UE using the second carrier (e.g., or one or more other carriers of the second operating band 421-b). In some examples, the first operating band 420-b and the second operating band 421-b can be included in the same serving cell. In such examples, the UE can aggregate one or more BWPs of the first operating band 420-b and the second operating band 421-b (e.g., one or more BWPs of the first operating band 420-b and one or more other BWPs of the second operating band 421-b). That is, the UE may be allocated resources from a resource aggregation 426, which may include one or more BWPs of a first operating band 420-b (e.g., one or more BWPs of a first carrier of the first operating band 420-b) and one or more other BWPs of a second operating band 421-b (e.g., one or more BWPs of a second carrier of the second operating band 421-b). Additionally or alternatively, the first operating band 420-b and the second operating band 421-b may be included in multiple (e.g., different) service cells. In such an example, the UE may aggregate one or more carriers of the first operating band 420-b and the second operating band 421-b (e.g., such as for carrier aggregation or dual connectivity). That is, the UE may be allocated resources from a resource aggregation 426, which may include one or more carriers of the first operating band 420-b and one or more other carriers of the second operating band 421-b.
[0115] Figure 5A , Figure 5B , Figure 5C , Figure 5D and Figure 5E Examples of carrier scheduling diagrams 500 (e.g., carrier scheduling diagram 500-a, carrier scheduling diagram 500-b, carrier scheduling diagram 500-c, carrier scheduling diagram 500-d, and carrier scheduling diagram 500-e) supporting flexible channel structures for paired radio spectrum bands according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated. In some examples, carrier scheduling diagram 500 can implement aspects of wireless communication system 100, wireless communication system 200, carrier configuration diagram 300, and resource allocation diagram 400. For example, carrier scheduling diagram 500 can be implemented at UE and network entities, which can be as described in reference Figures 1 to 3 , Figure 4A and Figure 4BExamples of corresponding devices described.
[0116] In some examples, the network (e.g., a network entity) may configure the UE to use one of the two paired operating bands (e.g., a carrier) for transmission or reception at the UE, and use another operating band (e.g., another paired operating band of the two paired operating bands, an unpaired operating band) for transmission and reception at the UE. In some examples, the UE network may use common scheduling information to schedule the UE to communicate using the paired operating band using the common scheduling information. Additionally or alternatively, the network may schedule the UE to communicate using the first operating band (e.g., in the paired operating band) via scheduling information corresponding to the first operating band, and may schedule the UE to communicate using the second operating band (e.g., in the paired operating band) via scheduling information corresponding to the second operating band. That is, the network may schedule each operating band in the paired operating band using common scheduling information (e.g., scheduling information for two operating bands for one of the paired operating bands may be sent) or corresponding scheduling information (e.g., scheduling information for each operating band may be sent using the corresponding operating band). In other words, the UE may receive one or more scheduling information (e.g., one or more messages including scheduling information, such as one or more DCIs), and may use one or more operating bands (e.g., carriers) to receive the scheduling information. Thus, one or more (e.g., several) relationships between carrier scheduling (e.g., one or more carriers used at the UE to receive scheduling information) and scheduled carriers (e.g., one or more carriers or BWPs of carriers allocated to the UE for communication) may be considered (e.g., for allocating resources to the UE).
[0117] like Figure 5A As illustrated in the example of , the network may configure the UE with a paired operating band including a first operating band 520-a and a second operating band 521-a (or the UE may be configured in other ways). In some examples, the first operating band 520-a may be used at the UE for reception (e.g., using a first carrier 525-a), and the second operating band 521-a may be used at the UE for transmission (e.g., using a second carrier 530-a) and reception (e.g., using a second carrier 530-b). Although Figure 5A The example of illustrates that the first operating frequency band 520-a is used for reception at the UE, but it should be understood that the first operating frequency band 520-a can also be used for transmission at the UE, and the examples described herein should not be considered to be limited to the scope covered by the claims or the present disclosure. Figure 5AIn an example, a carrier (or BWP) configured at a UE may be scheduled from (e.g., using) a first carrier 525-a (e.g., a receiving carrier, a carrier of a first operating band 520-a, a carrier of an operating band configured at the UE for sending or receiving). For example, the UE may use the first carrier 525-a to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for the first carrier 525-a (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the first carrier 525-a), the second carrier 530-a (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for sending communications such as uplink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-a), and the second carrier 530-b (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-b).
[0118] like Figure 5B As illustrated in the example of , the network may configure the UE with a paired operating band including a first operating band 520-b and a second operating band 521-b (or the UE may be configured in other ways). In some examples, the first operating band 520-b may be used at the UE for reception (e.g., using the first carrier 525-b), and the second operating band 521-b may be used at the UE for transmission (e.g., using the second carrier 530-c) and reception (e.g., using the second carrier 530-d). Although Figure 5B The example of illustrates that the first operating frequency band 520-b is used for reception at the UE, but it should be understood that the first operating frequency band 520-b can also be used for transmission at the UE, and the examples described herein should not be considered to be limited to the scope covered by the claims or the present disclosure. Figure 5B In the example, the carrier (or BWP) configured at the UE can be self-scheduled (e.g., using the corresponding carrier). For example, the UE may use the first carrier 525-b to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for the first carrier 525-b (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the first carrier 525-b). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may use the second carrier 530-d to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for the second carrier 530-d (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-d), or scheduling information for the second carrier 530-c (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for sending communications such as uplink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-c), or both.
[0119] like Figure 5C As illustrated in the example of , the network may configure the UE with a paired operating band including a first operating band 520-c and a second operating band 521-c (or the UE may be configured in other ways). In some examples, the first operating band 520-c may be used at the UE for reception (e.g., using a first carrier 525-c), and the second operating band 521-c may be used at the UE for transmission (e.g., using a second carrier 530-e) and reception (e.g., using a second carrier 530-f). Although Figure 5C The example illustrates that the first operating frequency band 520-c is used for reception at the UE, but it should be understood that the first operating frequency band 520-c can also be used for transmission at the UE, and the examples described herein should not be considered to be limited to the scope covered by the claims or the present disclosure. Figure 5C In an example, a carrier (or BWP) configured at the UE may be scheduled from (e.g., using) a second carrier 530-f (e.g., a receiving carrier, a carrier of a second operating band 521-c, a carrier of an operating band configured at the UE for sending and receiving). For example, the UE may use the second carrier 530-f to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for the first carrier 525-c (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the first carrier 525-c), the second carrier 530-e (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for sending communications such as uplink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-e), and the second carrier 530-f (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-f).
[0120] like Figure 5D As illustrated in the example of , the network may configure the UE with a paired operating band including a first operating band 520-d and a second operating band 521-d (or the UE may be configured in other ways). In some examples, the first operating band 520-d may be used at the UE for reception (e.g., using a first carrier 525-d), and the second operating band 521-d may be used at the UE for transmission (e.g., using a second carrier 530-g) and reception (e.g., using a second carrier 530-h). Although Figure 5D The example illustrates that the first operating frequency band 520-d is used for reception at the UE, but it should be understood that the first operating frequency band 520-d can also be used for transmission at the UE, and the examples described herein should not be considered to be limited to the scope covered by the claims or the present disclosure. Figure 5DIn an example, the carriers (or BWPs) configured at the UE can be partially self-scheduled (e.g., some carriers can be scheduled using corresponding carriers). For example, the UE can use the first carrier 525-d to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for the first carrier 525-d (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications using the first carrier 525-d at the UE), or scheduling information for the second carrier 530-g (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for sending communications such as uplink communications using the second carrier 530-g at the UE), or both. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may use the second carrier 530-h to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for the second carrier 530-h (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-h), or scheduling information for the second carrier 530-g (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for sending communications such as uplink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-g), or both.
[0121] like Figure 5E As illustrated in the example of , the network may configure the UE with a paired operating band including a first operating band 520-e and a second operating band 521-e (or the UE may be configured in other ways). In some examples, the first operating band 520-e may be used at the UE for reception (e.g., using a first carrier 525-e), and the second operating band 521-e may be used at the UE for transmission (e.g., using a second carrier 530-i) and reception (e.g., using a second carrier 530-j). Although Figure 5D The example of illustrates that the first operating frequency band 520-e is used for reception at the UE, but it should be understood that the first operating frequency band 520-e can also be used for transmission at the UE, and the examples described herein should not be considered to be limited to the scope covered by the claims or the present disclosure. Figure 5EIn an example, carriers (or BWPs) configured at the UE may be cross-scheduled (e.g., a carrier may be scheduled using one or more other carriers). For example, the UE may use a first carrier 525-e to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for a second carrier 530-j (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-j), or scheduling information for a second carrier 530-i (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for sending communications such as uplink communications at the UE using the second carrier 530-i), or both. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may use a second carrier 530-h to receive signaling (e.g., control signaling, such as one or more DCIs), which may include scheduling information for a first carrier 525-e (e.g., an indication of resources allocated for receiving communications such as downlink communications or sidelink communications at the UE using the first carrier 525-e).
[0122] In some examples, the UE may receive multiple scheduling information, such as multiple messages from one or more carriers, including scheduling information for the corresponding carrier or one or more other carriers. In such examples, the UE may determine (e.g., distinguish) which carrier (or BWP) the scheduling information is for based on one or more rules (e.g., configured at the UE). For example, the UE may receive signaling (e.g., including an indication) indicating the carrier (or BWP) to which the scheduling information corresponds. In some examples, the indication may identify (e.g., indicate) the scheduled BWP (e.g., corresponding to the carrier). Additionally or alternatively, the indication may identify (e.g., indicate) a subcarrier indicator field (e.g., a sub-CIF, a subcarrier indicator field corresponding to the carrier).
[0123] In some examples, the UE may be configured to perform a stop-and-wait protocol (e.g., a HARQ process), where if the network (or UE) is using one or more carriers to wait for feedback about a packet (e.g., a currently or previously transmitted packet), another packet may not be transmitted. In some examples, the round-trip time associated with one or more HARQ processes may result in underutilization of radio resources (e.g., of the configured operating band). In some other examples, the UE may be configured to perform multiple concurrent HARQ processes, and each process may include packets pending (e.g., one packet pending). In some examples, such as for downlink and uplink, the UE may support a certain amount of HARQ processes per cell (e.g., up to about 16 HARQ processes). In some examples, the HARQ process may be applied to transmissions on a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) and a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). Additionally or alternatively, feedback for the PDSCH may be sent using a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) or PUSCH, and feedback for the PUSCH may be sent via an uplink grant (e.g., due to the receiver and scheduler being at the network, such as at a gNB).
[0124] In some examples, the UE may use the same number of HARQ processes for one or more of the carriers (e.g., one or more first carriers 525 or one or more second carriers 530 configured at the UE). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may use (e.g., select, prepare) one or more specific HARQ processes (e.g., dedicated HARQ processes) for one or more of the carriers (e.g., one or more first carriers 525 or one or more second carriers 530 configured at the UE). For example, the UE may use a certain number of HARQ processes (e.g., about 16 HARQ processes) for a carrier with a relatively low frequency, and a certain number of HARQ processes (e.g., about 16 HARQ processes) for a carrier with a relatively high carrier frequency. In some examples, the HARQ process for a carrier with a relatively low frequency may include (e.g., share) one or more identical HARQ processes that can be used with a carrier with a relatively high frequency. That is, a certain number of HARQ processes (e.g., about 16 HARQ) may be shared (e.g., and used for) between a carrier with a relatively low frequency and a carrier with a relatively high frequency, respectively. In some examples, HARQ processes may be semi-statically assigned for each carrier (e.g., configured via RRC signaling, such as using an nrofHARQ-ProcessesForPDSCH IE) or dynamically determined (e.g., decided), such as via network scheduling (e.g., using DCI).
[0125] In some examples, the UE may utilize a feedback scheme (e.g., an ACK or NACK feedback scheme) for a carrier (e.g., a single carrier). For example, the UE may not be able to receive (or the network may not be able to send) a signal on any carrier (e.g., the first carrier 525 of the first operating band 520 or the second carrier 530 of the second operating band 521). In such an example, the UE may utilize feedback based on code block groups (CBGs). For example, the UE may utilize CBG-based feedback (e.g., ACK or NACK feedback) so that the UE may send (e.g., may feedback) one or more ACKs or one or more NACKs per CBG (e.g., based on the CBG), and may not be able to receive (e.g., may not expect to receive, may not monitor) a code block (CB) sent on one or more resources on the corresponding carrier. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may utilize a feedback scheme (e.g., an ACK or NACK feedback scheme) for multiple carriers (e.g., such as for carrier aggregation). For example, both carriers (e.g., the first carrier 525 of the first operating frequency band 520 or the second carrier 530 of the second operating frequency band 521) may be used for transmission, and therefore, the UE may receive (e.g., from the network) an indication of a carrier (e.g., one or more frequency resources of a carrier) to be used for sending feedback (e.g., ACK or NACK). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may determine (e.g., assume) the same transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state for both carriers (e.g., the first carrier 525 of the first operating frequency band 520 or the second carrier 530 of the second operating frequency band 521).
[0126] In some examples, the UE may be configured to use a paired operating band that includes a carrier to be used for downlink reference signal reception and downlink data reception (e.g., a downlink carrier) and another carrier to be used for uplink transmission (e.g., an uplink carrier). In such examples, the UE may be configured to use the downlink carrier to receive one or more system information blocks (SIBs) or one or more random access channel (RACH) messages, such as the second message of a four-step RACH procedure (e.g., RACH Msg2). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to use the uplink carrier to send a physical random access channel (PRACH) message (e.g., a RACH preamble) or one or more other RACH messages, such as the first message as part of a two-step RACH procedure (e.g., RACH MsgA).
[0127] However, in some examples, the UE may be configured to use multiple carriers for transmission, reception, or both. Figure 5AAs illustrated in the example of , the UE may be configured to use both the first carrier 525-a of the first operating frequency band 520-a and the second carrier 530-b of the second operating frequency band 521-a for reception (e.g., downlink reference signal reception, downlink data reception, sidelink reception), and use the second carrier 530-a of the second operating frequency band 521-a for transmission (e.g., uplink transmission). In such an example, the UE may determine whether to use the first carrier 525-a or the second carrier 530-b to receive a specific message. That is, the UE may determine one or more carriers (e.g., multiple candidate options) for sending or receiving a specific message. For example, the UE may determine one or more carriers (e.g., which carriers) to use for downlink data reception (e.g., reception of SIBs), downlink reference signal reception (e.g., reception of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) or channel state information reference signals (CSI-RSs)), and reception of one or more messages sent from the network as part of a RACH procedure (e.g., such as RACH Msg2 reception during a four-step RACH procedure, or such as RACH MsgB reception during a two-step RACH procedure). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may determine one or more carriers (e.g., which carriers) to use for one or more messages sent from the UE as part of a RACH procedure (e.g., PRACH transmission, such as RACH MsgA transmission during a two-step RACH procedure, or such as Msg1 transmission during a four-step RACH procedure).
[0128] In some examples, a downlink reference signal (e.g., SSB or CSI-RS) may be used at the UE for timing or power control. For example, for UE power control, the UE may apply an offset for random access preamble (e.g., RACH preamble) transmission. In some examples, the value of the offset may be indicated to the UE (e.g., signaled from the network) and used at the UE, for example to compensate for downlink-uplink coupling loss. In some examples, the value of the offset (e.g., an appropriate value of the offset) may vary (e.g., change, different) depending on the carrier used by the UE for random access preamble transmission and downlink reference signal reception. For example, if the same carrier (e.g., a relatively low frequency carrier) is used for random access preamble transmission and downlink reference signal reception, the value of the offset may be set to 0 (e.g., or some other appropriate value). In other examples (e.g., examples of using different carriers for random access preamble transmission and downlink reference signal reception), the offset may be set to a value greater than 0.
[0129] In some examples, the UE may determine to use (e.g., may select, may follow) one or more carriers that may be used as part of a default process. For example, the UE may select a carrier that may be used for downlink reception as part of a default process for downlink message reception. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may select a carrier that may be used for uplink transmission as part of a default process for uplink message transmission. In some examples, the UE may use multiple carriers for reception (e.g., both the first carrier 525-a of the first operating frequency band 520-a or the second carrier 530-b of the second operating frequency band 521-a). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may use multiple carriers (e.g., two carriers) for transmission and reception. In some examples, the UE may use a carrier (e.g., a specific carrier) indicated to the UE (e.g., from the network). That is, the UE may use any combination of carriers for transmission or reception (or both). As an illustrative example, the UE may use a first receiving carrier (e.g., as described in reference to Figure 5A The first carrier 525-a described above), the second received carrier (e.g., as described in reference Figure 5A The second carrier 530-b described above is received and the transmitting carrier (e.g., as described in reference Figure 5A In some examples, the UE may use the first receiving carrier, the second receiving carrier, and the transmitting carrier to send a message or receive a message (or both) according to the following Table 1:
[0130]
[0131] In some examples, the first receiving carrier may include a relatively high frequency, and the second receiving carrier (e.g., and the transmitting carrier) may include a relatively low frequency. In such examples (e.g., and according to Table 1), the UE may be configured to receive messages using both the first receiving carrier and the second receiving carrier (e.g., all receiving behaviors may be enabled for relatively low frequency carriers and relatively high frequency carriers). In some examples, the UE may determine to use a carrier (e.g., a carrier may be randomly selected from a plurality of carriers with equal probability), and perform an action (e.g., receive a message) in the determined (e.g., selected) carrier. In such examples, preamble information (e.g., RACH preamble information, PRACH information) may be used to determine one or more carriers (e.g., distinguish which carriers) that the UE can access and use to receive (e.g., expect to receive, monitor) a response message (e.g., a message sent to the UE in response to the UE sending a PRACH message such as RACH Msg2 or RACH MsgB).
[0132] Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to receive some messages using both the first receiving carrier and the second receiving carrier. For example, the receiving behavior of the second receiving carrier (e.g., a relatively low frequency carrier) may exclude SSB and SIB reception. In such an example, the UE may detect (e.g., read) SSB or SIB (or both) using the first receiving carrier (e.g., a relatively high frequency carrier) and perform the remaining reception (e.g., the remaining) using any one of the carriers (e.g., the first receiving carrier, the second receiving carrier, or both). In some examples, such carriers (e.g., the first receiving carrier, the second receiving carrier, or both) may be selected at the UE (e.g., randomly and with equal probability) or such as indicated to the UE from the network. Additionally or alternatively, preamble information (e.g., RACH preamble information, PRACH information) may be used at the UE to determine one or more carriers (e.g., distinguish which carriers) that the UE can access and use to receive (e.g., expect to receive, monitor) a response message (e.g., a message sent to the UE in response to a PRACH message such as RACH Msg2 or RACH MsgB).
[0133] Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to receive some messages using both the first receiving carrier and the second receiving carrier. For example, the receiving behavior of the second receiving carrier (e.g., a relatively low frequency carrier) may exclude SSB and SIB reception and downlink reference signal reception. In such an example, the UE may detect (e.g., read) SSB or SIB (or both) using the first receiving carrier (e.g., a relatively high frequency carrier) and identify the first receiving carrier as a downlink reference (e.g., a downlink reference may be set, and the first receiving carrier may be identified as a carrier for receiving a downlink reference signal). The UE may use either or both of the carriers (e.g., the first receiving carrier, the second receiving carrier, or both) to perform the remaining reception (e.g., the remaining). In some examples, such carriers (e.g., the first receiving carrier, the second receiving carrier, or both) may be selected at the UE (e.g., randomly and with equal probability) or indicated to the UE (e.g., from the network). Additionally or alternatively, preamble information (e.g., RACH preamble information, PRACH information) may be used at the UE to determine one or more carriers (e.g., to distinguish which carriers) that the UE can access and use to receive (e.g., expect to receive, monitor) a response message (e.g., a message sent to the UE in response to a PRACH message such as RACH Msg2 or RACH MsgB).
[0134] Additionally or alternatively, the network may configure the UE (or the UE may be otherwise configured) to receive messages using a second reception carrier and to send messages using a transmission carrier (e.g., the same carrier may be used for transmission and reception). That is, reception behaviors (e.g., all reception behaviors) may be enabled for a second reception carrier (e.g., a relatively lower frequency carrier). In such an example, the UE may perform a RACH message (e.g., until RACH Msg2 or RACH MsgB) using a second reception carrier (e.g., a relatively lower frequency carrier), and may perform UE-specific scheduling (e.g., reception of RACH Msg4, reception of messages after RACH Msg4) using the second reception carrier or the first reception carrier (e.g., a relatively higher frequency carrier), or both.
[0135] Additionally or alternatively, the network may configure the UE (or the UE may be otherwise configured) to receive the SSB and SIB using a first reception carrier (e.g., a relatively higher frequency carrier), and may enable reception of other messages (e.g., remaining messages) for a second reception carrier (e.g., a relatively higher frequency carrier). In such an example, the UE may perform RACH messages (e.g., until RACH Msg2 or RACH MsgB) using the second reception carrier (e.g., a relatively lower frequency carrier), and may perform UE-specific scheduling (e.g., reception of RACH Msg4, reception of messages after RACH Msg4) using the second reception carrier or the first reception carrier (e.g., a relatively higher frequency carrier), or both.
[0136] Additionally or alternatively, the network may configure the UE (or the UE may be otherwise configured) to receive SSBs, SIBs, and downlink reference signals using a first reception carrier (e.g., a relatively higher frequency carrier), and may enable reception of other messages (e.g., remaining messages) for a second reception carrier (e.g., a relatively higher frequency carrier). In such an example, the UE may perform RACH messages (e.g., until RACH Msg2 or RACH MsgB) using a second reception carrier (e.g., a relatively lower frequency carrier), and may perform UE-specific scheduling (e.g., reception of RACH Msg4, reception of messages after RACH Msg4) using the second reception carrier or the first reception carrier (e.g., a relatively higher frequency carrier), or both.
[0137] In some examples, a relatively high frequency carrier may be configured at the UE for transmission. In such examples, PRACH or RACH MsgA transmission may be enabled for two carriers (e.g., a relatively high frequency carrier and a relatively low frequency carrier). In such examples, the UE may determine to use a relatively high frequency carrier or a relatively low frequency carrier (e.g., select either transmission carrier, such as randomly with equal probability) for transmission. In some examples, the UE may use (e.g., obtain) an identifier in a random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI) calculation so that the network (e.g., gNB) may multiplex a response message (e.g., one or more random access responses (RARs)) to a random access preamble (e.g., included in a PRACH or RACH Msg4 transmission) transmitted on multiple (e.g., different carriers, relatively high frequency carriers, and relatively low frequency carriers) in one MAC protocol data unit (PDU). For such an identifier, the UE may receive (e.g., the network may introduce) a carrier indicator. That is, the network may send a carrier indicator to the UE to identify the identifier in the RA-RNTI calculation. Additionally or alternatively, one or more random access preamble resources (e.g., resources assigned to the UE for sending random access preambles, such as in a PRACH message or RACHMsgA) may be coordinated across carriers. In some examples, coordinating random access preamble resources across carriers may distinguish RARs (e.g., identifying which carrier is to be used to receive a particular RAR). In some examples, such coordination information (e.g., association information) may be indicated (e.g., signaled) from the network to the UE. In such examples, for power control, the UE may apply respective offsets to relatively higher frequency carriers and relatively lower frequency carriers used for random access preamble transmission.
[0138] Additionally or alternatively, in some examples, both a relatively low frequency carrier and a relatively high frequency carrier may be used for transmission and reception. For example, a UE may use both a relatively low frequency carrier and a relatively high frequency carrier to transmit a PRACH message (or RACH MsgA) and receive SSBs, SIBs, downlink reference signals, and RACH Msg2 (or RACH MsgB). In some examples, such a combination (e.g., using a relatively low frequency carrier and a relatively high frequency carrier for transmission and reception) may be used at the UE for increased traffic conditions (e.g., relatively heavy transmission and relatively heavy reception).
[0139] In some examples of increased traffic conditions, such as in examples where transmission may be relatively heavy, the UE may maintain one or more timing advance values for multiple carriers. For example, the UE may use a common timing advance value for a relatively low frequency carrier and a relatively high frequency carrier. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may use multiple (e.g., different) timing advance values for a relatively low frequency carrier and a relatively high frequency carrier. In some examples, if the frequency difference between the carriers is relatively large (e.g., if the carriers are separated by a relatively large number of frequencies in the frequency domain), the UE may avoid using a common timing value. For example, if the frequency difference between the carriers is relatively large, the UE may determine to use multiple (e.g., different) timing advance values for multiple carriers. In such an example, the UE may maintain (e.g., store) multiple timing advance groups (TAGs), each timing advance group may be associated with a corresponding timing advance value and a timing advance timer, and may establish timing advance values for carriers (e.g., establish timing advance values for carriers separately, such as via a random access process). In some examples, the UE may receive an indication (e.g., such as signaling from the network) as to whether a single (e.g., common) timing advance value or multiple timing advance values (e.g., for multiple carriers) are to be applied at the network and corresponding (e.g., related) configurations (e.g., corresponding TAG identifiers and timing advance timer values).
[0140] In some examples, the UE may use one or both of these carriers to perform measurements (e.g., reference signal measurements). For example, L3-level and L1-level (or beam-level) measurements may be supported at the UE using SSB or CSI-RS (or both). In some examples, two carriers of a paired operating band (e.g., a relatively high frequency carrier and a relatively low frequency carrier) may support reception of SSB or CSI-RS (or both). In such examples, the UE and the network (e.g., gNB) may determine (e.g., communicate) which carrier the UE may use to perform measurements (e.g., L3-level measurements, L1-level measurements). In some examples, the UE may be configured (e.g., via the network or otherwise) to use a relatively low frequency carrier, a relatively high frequency carrier, a carrier with a relatively lowest index, a carrier with a relatively highest index, a default carrier configured for reception at the UE, or any combination thereof. For example, the UE may receive an indication (e.g., signaling) that may identify one or more carriers (e.g., which carrier) the UE may use to perform reference signal measurements. In some examples, the UE may report (e.g., indicate to the network) information about one or more carriers (e.g., which carrier) used for measurement at the UE and corresponding measurement results for the network (e.g., gNB).
[0141] Additionally or alternatively, the UE may report one or more measurement capabilities (e.g., L1 capabilities, L2 capabilities) to the network. For example, the UE may report a transmit-receive ratio (e.g., and more than one mode associated with the transmit-receive ratio). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may report duplex capabilities (e.g., full-duplex capabilities, half-duplex capabilities). In some examples, a throughput calculation (e.g., performed at the UE or a network entity) may be performed based on the reported (e.g., supported) transmit-receive ratio (or according to one or more other calculation methods). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may report the timing capabilities of the UE (e.g., processing capabilities, switching time capabilities between transmit and receive) to the network. In some examples, the UE may report the UE's ability to calculate the L2 buffer size using the throughput calculation.
[0142] Figure 6 An example of a process flow 600 for supporting a flexible channel structure for paired radio spectrum bands according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. In some examples, the process flow 600 can implement aspects of the wireless communication system 100, the wireless communication system 200, the carrier configuration map 300, and the resource allocation map 400. For example, the process flow 600 can be implemented at the UE 615 and the network entity 605, which can be as described in reference Figures 1 to 3 , Figure 4A , Figure 4B , Figure 5A , Figure 5B , Figure 5C , Figure 5D and Figure 5E Examples of corresponding devices described.
[0143] In some examples, UE 615 and network entity 605 can use paired operating bands to support TDD and FDD. For example, at 620, UE 615 can receive control signaling (e.g., from network entity 605) that includes a carrier indication for a configuration for wireless communication with a wireless device (e.g., network entity 605) using a first operating band (e.g., paired operating band) of a radio spectrum band (e.g., FR1, FR2). The carrier indication can be as described in reference Figure 2 An example of a carrier indication described herein. For example, the carrier indication may identify that the first operating frequency band includes a first carrier that is paired with a second carrier.
