[0052] According to the present invention, the term "stable" may be defined as a state in which the settling rate of the particles in suspension (i.e. the polyhalite in suspension) is reduced by the formulation according to the present invention, thereby reducing the natural phase separation, which results in the settling of the solids occurring on a longer time scale than a mere suspension of the polyhalite in a liquid medium or solvent.
[0053] The present invention relates to a suspension of the mineral polyhalite in a liquid medium or solvent (such as water, vegetable oil, mineral oil, glycerine, any other solvent capable of dispersing polyhalite powder, or alcohol), and in particular to a high density, viscous liquid suspension that can be used for applications for commercial and industrial purposes and provides high dosage of polyhalite in a fluidized form for selected applications.
[0054] The present invention provides a flowable suspended polyhalite product involving a liquid phase having a solid medium (polyhalite) suspended therein.
[0055] The suspended polyhalite of the present invention has a variety of applications, including but not limited to: aerial applications, such as tree cultivation by airplanes, helicopters, field applications via unmanned aerial systems (UAS), etc.; fire extinguishing agent / fire retardant; as a drilling additive or as a proppant for hydrocarbon recovery, due to the greater density of polyhalite than water and due to the thixotropy of the suspended material; a heat exchanger, due to its high thermal insulation capabilities; as a fluid medium for soil remediation / restoration of contaminated land; a delivery method for soil amendments to replace potentially toxic elements and cations in the soil; as a potential granulation aid or coating agent in the production of granular products; and for transporting polyhalite in flooded systems like rice, thereby adding nutrients to intentionally flooded areas, which are deposited on the soil when the water drains away.
[0056] The properties of the suspended polyhalite allow its application to be implemented using a variety of equipment and infrastructure, including but not limited to agricultural (such as greenhouse) irrigation systems, drip and pivot irrigation, boom sprayers, backpack sprayers, and tractor mounted / self-propelled spray equipment. Stable suspended polyhalite can be used in applications where the use of solid particles is more challenging, for example, it is difficult to distribute polyhalite particles in a ring around a single tree in an even manner in an orchard, and pipes including aqueous polyhalite suspensions can be delivered to the root zone of the tree, which is more precise and efficient in practice; delivering a high density liquid that can use the physical properties of suspended solids (polyhalite) that are not classified according to the current Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) guidelines for substances and mixtures. The present invention allows polyhalite to be delivered in conjunction with a liquid solvent (such as water, vegetable oil, mineral oil, glycerine, any other solvent that can partially dissolve polyhalite powder, or alcohol).
[0057] The polyhalite suspension of the present invention may be a stable suspension.
[0058] The present invention also includes the addition of a suitable dispersant, which is important for achieving the desired concentration of the active ingredient. The dispersant is not seaweed, polynaphthalene sulfonate or alginic acid. In addition, a viscosity modifier or thickener may be added, which is very important for preventing phase separation which starts immediately and is completed within a few hours.
[0059] The polyhalite suspension concentrate may also include one or more of a rheology modifier, a preservative, a defoamer, a wetting agent, and an antifreeze agent.
[0060] A suspension of polyhalite in an aqueous medium or solvent is produced by mixing a dispersant, a viscosity regulator or thickener, a rheology modifier, a preservative, a defoamer, a wetting agent, an antifreeze agent, water and the polyhalite using a high shear propulsion system.
[0061] The present invention also relates to a method for preparing the polyhalite suspension as described above.
[0062] In another embodiment of the present invention, a powder containing polyhalite is provided, which includes polyhalite powder and a dispersant. The powder containing polyhalite includes one or more of a formulation enhancer, and the formulation enhancer includes a rheology modifier, a preservative, a defoamer, a wetting agent, and an antifreeze agent in solid form.
[0063] In another embodiment of the present invention, a method for preparing a polyhalite suspension is provided, which comprises adding a certain amount of liquid (such as water, vegetable oil, mineral oil, diluted or pure glycerol, any other solvent capable of partially dissolving polyhalite powder, or alcohol) to a powder containing polyhalite to produce a polyhalite suspension. A defoamer, preservative and / or antifreeze agent may also be added.
[0064] In another embodiment of the present invention, there is provided use of the polyhalite suspension described herein for application to an area.
