[0033] An embodiment of the present invention provides an antenna device including a radiator. According to an exemplary embodiment, an antenna structure including an antenna device and a circuit board is also provided. In addition, an image display device including the antenna device is provided.

[0034] The antenna device may be, for example, a microstrip patch antenna manufactured in the form of a transparent film. The antenna device may be applied to, for example, a communication device for high frequency or ultra-high frequency (e.g., 3G, 4G, 5G or higher) mobile communication. However, the application of the antenna device is not limited to the image display device, and the antenna device may be applied to various structures such as vehicles, household appliances, buildings, and structures.

[0035] However, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the embodiments described with reference to the accompanying drawings are provided to further understand the spirit of the present invention, and are not intended to limit the subject matter disclosed in the detailed description and the appended claims.

[0036] The terms "first", "second", "one surface", "the other surface", "one end", "the other end", "upper", "lower", "top", and "bottom" herein are used to relatively distinguish positions of components and are not intended to specify absolute positions.

[0037] Figure 1 and Figure 2 1 and 2 are schematic plan views and cross-sectional views respectively showing an antenna structure according to an exemplary embodiment. Figure 2 It is along Figure 1 A cross-sectional view taken along the line II' in the thickness direction.

[0038] See also Figure 1 and Figure 2 , the antenna structure may include an antenna device 100 and a circuit board 200 electrically connected to the antenna device 100 .

[0039] In an exemplary embodiment, the antenna device 100 may include a first dielectric layer 110 and an antenna unit 120 disposed on the first dielectric layer 110 .

[0040] In some embodiments, the antenna device 100 may further include a second dielectric layer 130 disposed on the first dielectric layer 110 and the antenna unit 120. The second dielectric layer 130 may cover at least a portion of the top surface of the antenna unit 120. Therefore, the impedance of the antenna unit 120 may be adjusted, and the antenna unit 120 may be protected from external impact.

[0041] In some embodiments, the antenna device 100 may further include a third dielectric layer 140 disposed below a bottom surface of the first dielectric layer 110 .

[0042] The first dielectric layer 110, the second dielectric layer 130 and / or the third dielectric layer 140 may include polyester resins such as polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene isophthalate, polyethylene naphthalate and polybutylene terephthalate; cellulose resins such as diacetyl cellulose and triacetyl cellulose; polycarbonate resins; acrylic resins such as polymethyl (meth)acrylate and ethyl (meth)acrylate; styrene resins such as polystyrene and acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer; polyolefins Resins such as polyethylene, polypropylene, cycloolefin or polyolefin with norbornene structure and ethylene-propylene copolymer; vinyl chloride resins; amide resins such as nylon and aromatic polyamide; imide resins; polyether sulfone resins; sulfone resins; polyether ether ketone resins; polyphenylene sulfide resins; vinyl alcohol resins; vinylidene chloride resins; vinyl butyral resins; allyl resins; polyoxymethylene resins; epoxy resins; polyurethane or acrylic polyurethane resins; silicone resins, etc. These resins can be used alone or in combination.

[0043] In some embodiments, the first dielectric layer 110 , the second dielectric layer 130 , and / or the third dielectric layer 140 may include an adhesive film, such as an optically clear adhesive (OCA), an optically clear resin (OCR), or the like.

[0044] In some embodiments, the first dielectric layer 110 , the second dielectric layer 130 , and / or the third dielectric layer 140 may include an inorganic insulating material such as glass, silicon oxide, silicon nitride, silicon oxynitride, or the like.

[0045] In one embodiment, each of the first dielectric layer 110, the second dielectric layer 130, and / or the third dielectric layer 140 may have a multilayer structure of at least two layers. For example, the first dielectric layer 110, the second dielectric layer 130, and / or the third dielectric layer 140 may include a substrate layer and an antenna dielectric layer, and an adhesive layer may be included between the substrate layer and the antenna dielectric layer.

[0046] The impedance or inductance of the antenna unit 120 may be generated by the first dielectric layer 110, the second dielectric layer 130, and / or the third dielectric layer 140, thereby adjusting the frequency band in which the antenna structure can be driven or operated. In some embodiments, the dielectric constant of the first dielectric layer 110, the second dielectric layer 130, and / or the third dielectric layer 140 may be adjusted within a range of about 1.5 to about 12. When the dielectric constant exceeds about 12, the driving frequency may be excessively reduced, thereby failing to implement driving in the desired high frequency band.

[0047] In one embodiment, the antenna ground 150 may be disposed under the bottom surface of the first dielectric layer 110 and / or the third dielectric layer 140 .

[0048] In one embodiment, a conductive member of an image display device or a display panel to which the antenna structure is applied may be used as the antenna ground 150 .

[0049] For example, the conductive member may include electrodes or wirings of the thin film transistor array panel, such as a gate electrode, a source / drain electrode, a pixel electrode, a common electrode, a data line, a scan line, and the like.

[0050] In a certain embodiment, a metal member such as a SUS plate, a sensor member such as a digitizer, and a heat sink disposed at the rear of the image display device may be used as the antenna ground 150 .

[0051] In an exemplary embodiment, the antenna unit 120 may include a radiator 122 and a transmission line 124 connected to the radiator 122. The transmission line 124 may extend from the radiator 122.

[0052] For example, the radiator 122 may have a polygonal plate shape, and the transmission line 124 may have a smaller width than the radiator 122 and may be connected to one end or one side of the radiator 122. The radiator 122 and the transmission line 124 may be formed as a single member integrally connected to each other.

[0053] The target resonant frequency of the antenna device 100 may be adjusted according to the shape / size of the radiator 122. In a non-limiting embodiment, the radiator 122 may be designed to radiate in a high frequency / ultra-high frequency band of 3G, 4G, 5G or higher. For example, radiation in a frequency band of 0.5 GHz or higher, 1 GHz or higher, 10 GHz or higher, 20 GHz or higher, 30 GHz or higher, or 40 GHz or higher may be achieved from the radiator 122.

[0054] For example, the radiator 122 may be provided as a high-band radiating portion of the antenna unit 120. In a certain embodiment, the resonant frequency of the radiator 122 may be about 28 GHz or higher.

[0055] The transmission line may include a first transmission line 124a and a second transmission line 124b connected to the radiator 122 to face each other. Therefore, two polarization directions (dual polarization) may be realized in a single radiator.

[0056] In some embodiments, each of the first transmission line 124 a and the second transmission line 124 b may be connected to both side ends of the lower side of the radiator 122 (eg, two vertices of the lower side of the radiator 122 ).

[0057] The first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b may extend in different directions from the radiator 122. Therefore, a dual polarization characteristic may be implemented from one radiator 122.

[0058] In some embodiments, the angle formed by the extension directions of the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b may be about 90°. For example, the extension directions of the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b may be orthogonal to each other. In a certain embodiment, the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b may each extend in a direction passing through the center of the radiator 122.

[0059] Thus, the radiator 122 can be fed in two substantially orthogonal directions by the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b. For example, vertical radiation and horizontal radiation can be achieved from the radiator 122. In some embodiments, the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b can be arranged symmetrically with respect to each other. For example, the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b can be arranged symmetrically with respect to a center line passing through the center of the radiator 122. Therefore, the signal strength in the two polarization directions can become substantially uniform.

[0060] In an exemplary embodiment, the antenna unit 120 may include a relay pattern 125 interposed between the first transmission line 124 a and the second transmission line 124 b and connected to the radiator 122 .

[0061] For example, the relay pattern 125 may be used as an ultra-high frequency band radiation portion of the antenna unit 120. For example, radiation of a resonance frequency band of about 35 GHz or higher or about 36 GHz to 40 GHz may be achieved from the relay pattern 125.

[0062] In one embodiment, radiation of a resonance frequency band of about 28 GHz or higher may be achieved through the radiator 122, and radiation of a resonance frequency band of about 35 GHz or higher or about 36 GHz to about 40 GHz may be achieved through the relay pattern 125. Therefore, signal transmission and reception may be achieved in two frequency bands (dual band).

[0063] For example, the current direction at the lower end of the radiator 122 may be induced to the center of the radiator 122 through the relay pattern 125. Therefore, the amount of cancellation current of the radiator 122 may be reduced, and thus a dual-band dual-polarization antenna may be implemented.

[0064] In some embodiments, the relay pattern 125 may be directly connected to the radiator 122. For example, the relay pattern 125 and the radiator 122 may be formed as a single member integrally connected to each other.

[0065] For example, the relay pattern 125 may have a bar shape extending from the lower side of the radiator 122. In a certain embodiment, the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b may extend from both side ends of the lower side of the radiator 122, and the relay pattern 125 may extend from the central portion of the lower side of the radiator 122. In a certain embodiment, the radiator 122, the transmission line 124, and the relay pattern 125 may be formed as a single member integrally connected to each other.

[0066] In some embodiments, the extension direction of the first transmission line 124a and the extension direction of the second transmission line 124b may be symmetrical with respect to the extension direction of the relay pattern 125. Therefore, while achieving dual-band radiation, the signal strengths in two polarization directions may become substantially uniform.

[0067] In some embodiments, the signal pad 126 may be provided at the end of the transmission line 124. The signal pad 126 may be a single component that is substantially integral with the transmission line 124. In this case, the end of the transmission line 124 may be provided as the signal pad 126.

[0068] For example, the radiator 122 and the signal pad 126 may be electrically connected via the transmission line 124 .

[0069] The circuit board 200 and the antenna unit 120 may be electrically connected through the signal pad 126. Thus, signal transmission and reception between an antenna driving integrated circuit (IC) chip of the circuit board 200 and the radiator 122 may be achieved.

[0070] In some embodiments, the antenna unit 120 may further include a ground pad 128 disposed around the signal pad 126 to be spaced apart from the signal pad 126. The ground pad 128 may be electrically and physically separated from the transmission line 124 and the signal pad 126. In a certain embodiment, a pair of ground pads 128 may be disposed to face each other with the signal pad 126 interposed therebetween. Therefore, the generation of signal noise transmitted through the signal pad 126 may be reduced.

[0071] In some embodiments, the relay pad 127 may be disposed at an end of the relay pattern 125. The relay pad 127 may be a single member substantially integrated with the relay pattern 125. In this case, the end of the relay pattern 125 may be provided as the relay pad 127.

[0072] For example, the radiator 122 and the relay pad 127 may be electrically connected through the relay pattern 125 .

[0073] For example, the signal pad 126 , the ground pad 128 , and the relay pad 127 may be disposed in the bonding region BR to which the antenna device 100 and the circuit board 200 are bonded.

[0074] For example, bonding stability between the antenna device 100 and the circuit board 200 in the bonding region BR may be improved by the ground pad 128 .

[0075] In one embodiment, the signal pad 126, the ground pad 128, and the relay pad 127 may include a solid structure. Therefore, an increase in resistance due to bonding at a connection portion of the antenna device 100 and the circuit board 200 may be suppressed, and feeding efficiency may be enhanced.

[0076] In a certain embodiment, the antenna device 100 may further include a protective layer 160 disposed on the second dielectric layer 130. The protective layer 160 may include substantially the same material as the dielectric layers 110, 120, and 130.

[0077] In a certain embodiment, the protective layer 160 may include a cover window. The cover window may include, for example, ultra-thin glass (UTG) or a transparent resin film. Therefore, external impact applied to the antenna device 100 may be reduced or mitigated.

[0078] The antenna unit 120 and / or the antenna ground 150 may include silver (Ag), gold (Au), copper (Cu), aluminum (Al), platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), chromium (Cr), titanium (Ti), tungsten (W), niobium (Nb), tantalum (Ta), vanadium (V), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), tin (Sn), molybdenum (Mo), calcium (Ca), or an alloy containing at least one metal. They may be used alone or in combination of two or more.

[0079] In one embodiment, the antenna unit 120 may include silver (Ag) or a silver alloy (eg, silver-palladium-copper (APC)) or copper (Cu) or a copper alloy (eg, copper-calcium (CuCa)) to achieve low resistance and a fine line width pattern.

[0080] In some embodiments, the antenna unit 120 may include a transparent conductive oxide, such as indium tin oxide (ITO), indium zinc oxide (IZO), zinc oxide (ZnOx), indium zinc tin oxide (IZO), and the like.

[0081] In some embodiments, the antenna unit 120 may include a stacked structure of a transparent conductive oxide layer and a metal layer. For example, the antenna unit 120 may include a double-layer structure of a transparent conductive oxide layer-metal layer, or a triple-layer structure of a transparent conductive oxide layer-metal layer-transparent conductive oxide layer. In this case, the metal layer may improve flexibility, and the signal transmission speed may also be improved by the low resistance of the metal layer. The transparent conductive oxide layer may improve corrosion resistance and transparency.

[0082] The antenna unit 120 may include a blackened portion so that the reflectivity of the surface of the antenna unit 120 may be reduced to suppress visual pattern recognition due to light reflection.

[0083] In one embodiment, the surface of the metal layer included in the antenna unit 120 may be converted into a metal oxide or a metal sulfide to form a black layer. In one embodiment, a black layer, such as a black material coating or plating, may be formed on the antenna unit 120 or the metal layer. The black material or plating may include silicon, carbon, copper, molybdenum, tin, chromium, molybdenum, nickel, cobalt, or an oxide, sulfide, or alloy containing at least one of these metals.

[0084] The composition and thickness of the blackened layer may be adjusted in consideration of the reflectivity reducing effect and the antenna radiation characteristics.

[0085] In some embodiments, the radiator 122 may include a mesh structure, and the transmission line 124 and the relay pattern 125 may include a solid structure. For example, at least a portion of the radiator 122 may be formed as a mesh structure, and the remaining portion may be formed as a solid structure.

[0086] According to a certain embodiment, the lower portion of the radiator 122, the transmission line 124, and the relay pattern 125 may be included in the non-display area NDA of the image display device and may be formed to have a solid structure. In this case, the remaining portion of the radiator 122 may be included in the display area DA of the image display device and may be formed to have a grid structure. Therefore, the signal transmission / reception efficiency may be improved while preventing the user from visually recognizing the antenna unit 120.

[0087] In an exemplary embodiment, the circuit board 200 may include a core layer 210 and a signal wiring 220 disposed on one surface of the core layer 210. In a certain embodiment, the circuit board 200 may include a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB).

[0088] For example, the core layer 210 may include a flexible resin such as polyimide resin, modified polyimide (MPI), epoxy resin, polyester, cycloolefin polymer (COP), liquid crystal polymer (LCP), etc. In a certain embodiment, the core layer 210 may include polyimide resin or MPI.

[0089] In some embodiments, the signal wiring 220 may be connected to each of the first transmission line 124a and the second transmission line 124b. For example, one end of the signal wiring 220 may be bonded to the signal pad 126 so that the transmission line 124 and the signal wiring 220 may be connected. Therefore, signal transmission and / or feeding between the antenna driving IC chip and the antenna unit 120 may be performed through the circuit board 200.

[0090] In some embodiments, the circuit board 200 may include a first ground 230 disposed at the same layer or level as the signal wiring 220 .

[0091] The first ground 230 may be disposed around the signal wiring 220 to be spaced apart a predetermined distance from the signal wiring 220. Therefore, noise around the signal wiring 220 may be blocked, and feeding concentration through the signal wiring 220 may be enhanced.

[0092] In some embodiments, the relay pattern 125 of the antenna unit 120 may be electrically connected to the first ground 230 of the circuit board 200. Therefore, the sensitivity of signal transmission and reception in the ultra-high frequency band through the relay pattern 125 may be improved, and noise may be reduced.

[0093] like Figure 2 As illustrated in FIG. 1 , the antenna structure may further include a conductive intermediate structure 250 disposed between the antenna device 100 and the circuit board 200 in the bonding region BR. For example, the transmission line 124 and the circuit wiring 220 and / or the relay pattern 125 and the first ground 230 may be bonded or adhered to each other through the conductive intermediate structure 250. For example, the antenna unit 120, the conductive intermediate structure 250, and the circuit wiring 220 / first ground 230 may be sequentially contacted or stacked in the bonding region BR.

[0094] For example, the conductive intermediate structure 250 may be commonly attached to the signal pad 126, the ground pad 128, and the relay pad 127 of the antenna unit 120. Thereafter, the ends of the signal wiring 220 and the first ground 230 may be bonded to the signal pad 126 and the relay pad 127, respectively, by a heating / pressurizing process. The ground pad 128 may be used as a bonding pad bonded to the first ground 230 to improve bonding stability, and may absorb noise around the signal pad 126 to release the noise through the first ground 230.

[0095] Therefore, the signal wiring 220 and the transmission line 124 may be connected through the signal pad 126 , and the first ground 230 and the relay pattern 125 may be connected through the relay pad 127 .

[0096] For example, the signal wiring 220 and the first ground 230 may be disposed together on one surface of the circuit board 200 .

[0097] In some embodiments, the circuit board 200 may further include a second ground 240 disposed on the other surface facing one surface of the core layer 210. Therefore, the concentration of the signal transmitted to the signal wiring 220 may be improved, and vertical noise may be shielded.

[0098] In some embodiments, the signal wiring 220 , the first ground 230 , and / or the second ground 240 may include the same type of material as the antenna unit 120 .

[0099] In a certain embodiment, a cover film for protecting the wiring and the electrode layer may be provided on one surface and / or the other surface of the core layer 210 .

[0100] Figure 3 is a schematic plan view showing an antenna structure according to an exemplary embodiment.

[0101] refer to Figure 3 , the dummy grid layer 170 may be disposed around the radiator 122, the transmission line 124, and the relay pattern 125. The dummy grid layer 170 may include a grid structure substantially the same as the grid structure included in the radiator 122. Therefore, in the display area DA of the image display device, the spatial distribution of the conductive pattern may become uniform, so that the visual recognition of the radiator 122 may be suppressed.

[0102] The dummy grid layer 170 may be formed by etching the same grid layer together with the radiator 122. The dummy grid layer 170 may be physically isolated from the radiator 122 and the transmission line 124 by the separation region 175.

[0103] Figure 4 and Figure 5 are respectively a schematic plan view and a cross-sectional view showing an image display device according to an exemplary embodiment.

[0104] Figure 4 The front or window surface of the image display device 300 is shown. The front of the image display device 300 may include a display area (DA) 330 and a non-display area (NDA) 340. The non-display area 340 may correspond to, for example, a light shielding portion or a bezel portion of the image display device 300.

[0105] The antenna device 100 according to the exemplary embodiment may be disposed toward the front surface of the image display device 300 , and may be disposed on, for example, a display panel.

[0106] In some embodiments, the antenna device 100 may be attached to the display panel in the form of a film.

[0107] In a certain embodiment, the antenna device 100 may be formed on the display area 330 and the non-display area 340 of the image display device 300. In a certain embodiment, the radiator 122 may overlap the display area 330 at least partially.

[0113] In an exemplary embodiment, an optical layer 320 may be further included on the display panel 310. For example, the optical layer 320 may be a polarizing layer including a polarizer or a polarizing plate.

[0114] The circuit board 200 (eg, a flexible printed circuit board) may be bent along a lateral curved profile of the display panel 310 and disposed at the rear of the image display device 300 , and may extend toward an intermediate circuit board 270 (eg, a main board) on which an antenna driving IC chip 260 is mounted.

[0115] The circuit board 200 and the intermediate circuit board 270 may be bonded or interconnected via a connector, so that the antenna device 100 may be fed and antenna driving controlled via the antenna driving IC chip 260 .

[0116] Below, preferred embodiments are proposed to more specifically describe the present invention. However, the following embodiments are only used to illustrate the present invention, and it will be apparent to those skilled in the relevant art that various changes and modifications can be made within the scope and spirit of the present invention. Such changes and modifications are appropriately included in the appended claims.

[0117] Example

[0118] like Figure 1As shown, a conductive line including copper (Cu) is patterned on a multi-layer COP dielectric layer (a first dielectric layer and a third dielectric layer), and a COP dielectric layer (a second dielectric layer) is formed on the conductive line to obtain an antenna device.

[0119] The wire has a line width of 2 μm and a thickness of 0.5 μm.

[0120] The resonant frequency of the antenna unit is adjusted to have dual bands of about 28 GHz and about 39 GHz.

[0121] Comparative Example

[0122] Figure 6 is a schematic plan view showing an antenna structure according to a comparative example.

[0123] like Figure 6 As shown, the antenna device is manufactured by the same method as in the embodiment except that the relay pattern is not formed.

[0124] Experimental Examples

[0125] Measurement of antenna gain and 2D radiation pattern

[0126] The radiation patterns indicating the antenna gain of the antenna devices manufactured according to the embodiment and the comparative example and the beam waveforms of the radiators were confirmed using an HFSS simulator (Ansys Co., Ltd.).

[0127] Figure 7 Graphs of 2D radiation patterns of antenna devices according to embodiments and comparative examples are included.

[0128] Figure 7 Figure (A) and Figure 7 Figure (B) is a diagram of a 2D radiation pattern of the antenna device of the embodiment. Figure 7 Figure (C) and Figure 7 FIG. (D) is a diagram of a 2D radiation pattern of an antenna device of a comparative example. Specifically, Figure 7 Figure (A) and Figure 7 Figure (C) is a diagram of the 2D radiation patterns in the 28 GHz band of the embodiment and the comparative example, respectively. Figure 7 Figure (C) and Figure 7 Figures (D) are diagrams of 2D radiation patterns in the 39 GHz band of the embodiment and the comparative example, respectively.

[0129] exist Figure 7 In the embodiment of the present invention, if the difference in signal strength (cross-polarization discrimination: XPD) between co-polarization (Co-pol) and cross-polarization (X-pol) is 10 dB or more, it can be evaluated that dual-polarization radiation is sufficiently realized in the corresponding frequency band.

[0130] XPDs of frequency bands according to the embodiment and the comparative example are shown in Table 1 below.

[0131] [Table 1]

[0132] XPD(dB)_28GHz XPD(dB)_39GHz Example 11.7 12.4 Comparative Example 11.5 7.2

[0133] refer to Figure 7 As shown in Table 1, in the embodiment, the XPD in both the 28 GHz band and the 39 GHz band is 10 dB or more. In the comparative example, the XPD in the 39 GHz band is less than 10 dB.

[0134] Therefore, the antenna device of the embodiment is confirmed as a dual-band-dual-polarization antenna device operable in the 28 GHz and 39 GHz bands. However, the antenna device of the comparative example is confirmed as a single-band antenna device that cannot operate in the 39 GHz band due to the omission of the relay pattern.

[0135] Figure 8 : is a graph showing antenna gains of antenna devices according to the embodiment and the comparative example.

[0136] See also Figure 8 , high antenna gain is obtained in both the 28 GHz and 39 GHz bands in the embodiment, but the antenna gain in the 39 GHz band in the comparative example is lower than that in the embodiment.
