[0003] Wireless communication technology is driving the world towards an increasingly interconnected and networked society. Wireless communication relies on efficient network resource management and allocation between user mobile stations and wireless access network nodes (including but not limited to wireless base stations). The new generation of networks is expected to provide high-speed, low-latency and ultra-reliable communication capabilities and meet the requirements of different industries and users. User mobile stations or user equipment (UE) are becoming more and more complex, and the amount of data communicated is increasing. With the development of wireless multimedia services, the demand for high data rate services and the requirements for system capacity and coverage of traditional cellular networks are increasing. In addition, other demands for public safety, social networking, short-range data sharing, use of local advertising, and proximity services that allow people to communicate with nearby people or objects are also increasing. Device-to-device (D2D) communication technology can meet this demand. [0038] The wireless communications described herein may be performed over radio access including new radio ("NR") access. Radio Resource Control ("RRC") is a protocol layer at the IP level (network layer) between a user equipment ("UE") and a network (e.g., a base station or gNB). There may be various radio resource control (RRC) states, such as RRC connected (RRC_CONNECTED), RRC inactive (RRC_INACTIVE), and RRC idle (RRC_IDLE) states. RRC messages are transmitted via the Packet Data Convergence Protocol ("PDCP"). The UE may transmit data via a random access channel ("RACH") protocol scheme or a configuration grant ("CG") scheme or a grant scheme. The RACH scheme is merely one example of a protocol scheme for communication, and other examples including but not limited to CG are possible. Figure 1-2Example radio access network ("RAN") nodes (eg, base stations) and user equipment and messaging environments are shown.The communications described herein may be specific to sidelink communications, which may also be referred to as device-to-device ("D2D") communications.
[0039] There may be at least two technical solutions, including an Internet Protocol ("IP") layer (Layer 3 or "L3") and an access layer (Layer 2 or "L2") for sidelink communication. A layer 3-based relay forwards data based on the UE's IP information (e.g., an IP address or an IP port number). A layer 2-based relay routes and forwards data of the user plane and the control plane at the access layer, allowing network operators (i.e., core networks and / or BSs) to more efficiently manage remote UEs.
[0040] Sidelink communications can reduce the burden on cellular networks, reduce power consumption of user equipment ("UE"), increase data rates, and improve the robustness of network infrastructure, all of which can meet the needs of high data rate services and proximity services. Relay communication or D2D technology may also be referred to as proximity services ("ProSe") or sidelink communication. The interface between devices may be referred to or referred to as a PC5 interface. PC5 may be where a UE communicates directly with another UE through a direct channel without a base station. In some embodiments, sidelink-based relay communications may be applied to indoor relay communications, smart agriculture, smart factories, and public safety services. The sidelink may work based on the location of each device. For example, two user equipment (UE) terminals must be within the range to participate in the sidelink communication. Positioning may also be referred to as ranging, and may include relative positioning and absolute positioning. Based on positioning, bandwidth requirements may be different to meet accuracy requirements.
[0041] The UE can perform positioning with the network via the UU interface by sending a sounding reference signal (SRS) and receiving a positioning reference signal (PRS) signal. When the UE is outside the coverage area of the network (NW), or when the UE is in the coverage area of the NW but has low channel quality, the UE may need to obtain its precise location. In one example, the UE may be a cellular vehicle-to-everything (CV2X or C-V2X) or vehicle-to-everything (V2X) UE. Sidelink technology can be applied to V2X UEs to perform positioning. Sidelink technology can specify communications between V2X UEs for transmitting control signaling and service data via a PC5 interface. The PC5 interface may include PC5 signaling or PC5 RRC signaling to specify the configuration of a unicast link or resource allocation. The signaling transmission method or process may specify a high-level structure for sidelink positioning. The side link may refer to direct communication through PC5.
[0042] Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication can be based on D2D communication. The D2D interface can be designated as PC5 and is also referred to as a side link at the physical layer. The PC5 interface has been enhanced for vehicle use cases, including addressing high speed and high density (number of nodes). Direct communication between vehicles and other devices (V2V, V2I) can utilize the PC5 interface. PC5 may refer to a reference point for a UE to communicate with a node through a direct channel without a base station. When sidelink positioning information (e.g., location, capabilities, assistance data, measurements, etc. described herein) is transmitted via a first signaling (e.g., PC5 signaling or other signaling described herein), it may be referred to as an association between the first signaling and the sidelink positioning information.
[0043] Transmissions between UEs may be from an initiating UE and a transmitting UE. The initiating UE may be a UE that wants to obtain its own position through sidelink positioning, or may be a UE that receives a position request from the network. One or more target UEs may be one or more UEs to which the initiating UE transmits a sidelink positioning reference signal (SL-PRS) / receives SL-PRS from. The initiating UE and the target UE may form a UE pair. In order to perform SL positioning, the target UE should know its precise position. The initiating UE may be referred to as a target UE, and when the target UE corresponds to the initiating UE, it may be referred to as a peer UE or an associated peer UE. The target UE may be a UE that wants to obtain its own position through sidelink positioning, or a UE that receives a position request from the network. One or more peer UEs are one or more UEs that transmit or receive SL-PRS from the UE that initiates the SL-PRS. The target UE and the associated peer UE may form a UE pair. The peer UE may also be referred to as an anchor UE, and in order to perform SL positioning, the peer UE may need to know its precise position. In an exemplary embodiment, the initiating UE is shown together with the target UE, and the target UE is shown together with the peer UE. These embodiments are applicable when the UEs are in any coverage, including 1) when both UEs in a UE pair are in coverage / partial coverage of the network; 2) when one UE in the UE pair is in coverage / partial coverage and the other is out of coverage; or 3) both UEs in the UE pair are out of coverage.
[0044] Sidelink communications can be used for positioning between devices. Sidelink-based communications can be between devices ("UEs") and / or with other network nodes (such as base stations). Sidelink positioning information can be used for position determination. This may include vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications over the PC5 interface. Sidelink positioning information is transmitted via the PC5 interface and includes location, capabilities, assistance data, and measurement reports. The following Figure 3-24 An exemplary embodiment for sidelink communications is shown. Figure 1-2An example base station and user equipment and a message transmission environment that can be applied to the side link communication described below are shown. The above description of the UE and the network can be applied to each embodiment.
[0045] Figure 1 An example base station 102 is shown. The base station may also be referred to as a radio network node. The base station 102 may be further identified as a Node B (NB, such as an eNB or gNB) in the context of mobile telecommunications. The example base station may include radio Tx / Rx circuitry 113 for receiving and transmitting with a user equipment (UE) 104. The base station may also include network interface circuitry 116 (e.g., optical or wired interconnect, Ethernet, and / or other data transmission media / protocols) for coupling the base station to a core network 110.
[0046] The base station may also include system circuitry 122. System circuitry 122 may include one or more processors 124 and / or memory 126. Memory 126 may include operations 128 and control parameters 130. Operations 128 may include instructions for execution on one or more processors 124 to support the functionality of the base station. For example, the operations may process random access transmission requests from multiple UEs. Control parameters 130 may include parameters or support the execution of operations 128. For example, control parameters may include network protocol settings, random access message format rules, bandwidth parameters, radio frequency mapping allocations, and / or other parameters.
[0047] Figure 2 An example random access messaging environment 200 is shown. In the random access messaging environment, the UE 104 may communicate with the base station 102 over a random access channel 252. In this example, the UE 104 supports one or more subscriber identity modules (SIMs) such as SIM1 202. An electrical and physical interface 206 connects SIM1 202 to the rest of the user equipment hardware, such as through a system bus 210.
[0048] The mobile device 200 includes a communication interface 212, a system logic 214, and a user interface 218. The system logic 214 may include any combination of hardware, software, firmware, or other logic. The system logic 214 may be implemented, for example, with one or more systems on a chip (SoC), application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), discrete analog and digital circuits, and other circuits. The system logic 214 is part of the implementation of any desired functionality of the UE 104. In this regard, the system logic 214 may include logic that facilitates, for example, decoding and playing music and videos (such as MP3, MP4, MPEG, AVI, FLAC, AC3, or WAV decoding and playback); running applications; accepting user input; saving and retrieving application data; establishing, maintaining, and terminating cellular phone calls or data connections, such as Internet connections; establishing, maintaining, and terminating wireless network connections, Bluetooth connections, or other connections; and displaying relevant information on the user interface 218. The user interface 218 and input 228 may include a graphical user interface, a touch-sensitive display, tactile feedback or other tactile output, voice or facial recognition input, buttons, switches, speakers, and other user interface elements. Other examples of input 228 include microphones, video and still image cameras, temperature sensors, vibration sensors, rotation and orientation sensors, headphone and microphone input / output jacks, universal serial bus (USB) connectors, memory card slots, radiation sensors (e.g., IR sensors), and other types of inputs.
[0049] The system logic 214 may include one or more processors 216 and memory 220. The memory 220 stores, for example, control instructions 222 that the processor 216 executes to implement the desired functionality of the UE 104. The control parameters 224 provide and specify configuration and operating options for the control instructions 222. The memory 220 may also store any BT, WiFi, 3G, 4G, 5G, or other data 226 that the UE 104 will send or has received through the communication interface 212. In various embodiments, system power may be provided by a power storage device such as a battery 282.
[0050] At the communication interface 212, radio frequency (RF) transmission (Tx) and reception (Rx) circuitry 230 handles transmission and reception of signals through one or more antennas 232. The communication interface 212 may include one or more transceivers. The transceiver may be a wireless transceiver that includes modulation / demodulation circuitry, digital-to-analog converters (DACs), shaping tables, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), filters, waveform shapers, filters, preamplifiers, power amplifiers, and / or other logic for transmission and reception through one or more antennas or, for some devices, through a physical (e.g., wired) medium.
[0051] The transmitted and received signals may follow any of a variety of formats, protocols, modulations (e.g., QPSK, 16-QAM, 64-QAM, or 256-QAM), channels, bit rates, and encodings. As a specific example, the communication interface 212 may include a transceiver that supports transmission and reception under 2G, 3G, BT, WiFi, Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), High Speed Packet Access (HSPA)+, and 4G / Long Term Evolution (LTE) standards. However, the techniques described below may be applied to other wireless communication technologies, whether derived from the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), the GSM Association, 3GPP2, IEEE, or other partners or standards groups.
[0052] Sidelink communication may also be referred to as sidelink messaging, sidelink relay, relay communication, or device-to-device ("D2D") communication / message transmission. Communications may occur between devices such as multiple user equipment (UE) terminals. Sidelink communication may also include sending, receiving, broadcasting, unicasting, requesting, responding, forwarding, exchanging, or multicasting.
[0053] The sidelink information or positioning information may include a sidelink positioning reference signal (SL-PRS) configuration. The SL-PRS configuration may be indicated in control signaling, a control channel, one or more other channels, or a radio resource control (RRC) parameter. The control signaling may include sidelink control information (SCI), downlink control information (DCI), a medium access control (MAC) control element (MAC CE), a non-access stratum (NAS), or a system information block (SIB). The control channel includes at least one of a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH), a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), or a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH). One or more other channels include at least one of a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH), a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH), a physical broadcast channel (PBCH), a physical sidelink feedback channel (PSFCH), or a physical sidelink broadcast channel (PSBCH).
[0054] In some embodiments, such as during an emergency (such as an earthquake), the cellular network may operate abnormally, or the side link communication range of the network may need to be extended. Therefore, relay communication can be designed to allow multiple UEs to communicate with each other via a relay UE. Although not shown, there may be multiple UEs in the relay communication chain, or the relay UE may have multiple remote UEs. Figure 5 The interface between the UE and the BS during relay communication in a is called the Uu interface.
[0055] Figure 3An example sidelink communication using PC5 signaling is shown. Figure 7-8 Further describing the sidelink communication. In some embodiments, the sidelink communication can be performed between a user equipment (UE), a network node, a base station, a local server, a transmission / reception point (TRP), or a location management function (LMF). Figure 1-2 The depicted UE 104 may be a vehicle UE, a pedestrian UE, or a roadside unit (RSU) with or without a known location. The UE may include a positioning reference unit (PRU) with or without a known location. The UE may be any UE that supports vehicle-to-everything (V2X) services and / or sidelink communications. Although illustrated as PC5 signaling, the sidelink communications between the UE and the node may include other types of signaling, such as PC5-RRC signaling, sidelink control information (SCI), new logical layer signaling, or a medium access control unit (MAC-CE). In other examples, the UE capability includes the ability to support positioning capability, the ability to transmit a positioning reference signal (PRS), the ability to support positioning method measurement, the ability to support aperiodic or semi-persistent PRS, the ability to transmit control information, the ability to support multiple RTT methods, or the ability to support multiple RTT measurement capability.
[0064] The sidelink-related capability request may only include an information element (IE) indicating that the UE requests the sidelink capability. [0066] Auxiliary data
[0067] The SL auxiliary data configuration to be transmitted by the UE may be provided by the network, or provided by pre-configuration, or provided by UE self-configuration / self-generation. The Tx SL PRS configuration may include the SL PRS configuration of the PRS that the UE may use or will transmit according to the auxiliary data configuration, including that the Tx SL PRS configuration of one UE may be the same as or different from that of other UEs. UEs performing SL positioning should know whether their Tx SL PRS configurations are the same or different. If different, SL PRS configuration transfer between UEs may be required to notify other UEs of their own SL PRS configurations. Then, other UEs can correctly receive the SL PRS. The SL auxiliary data information (including the SL PRS configuration) is self-configured or pre-configured by the UE in the application layer / NAS layer / RRC layer. For self-configuration, how to determine the SL PRS configuration is an implementation method of the UE.

[0088] The initiating UE sends a SL PRS to the other target UE, and the target UE performs SL PRS measurement and provides SL positioning measurement to the initiating UE. The initiating UE may configure the SL positioning measurement via PC5-RRC signaling, and the target UE may reply with the SL positioning measurement via PC5-RRC signaling. The SL positioning measurement may be configured and processed in the RRC layer of the UE. In some embodiments, the configuration may include at least one of the following:
[0089] For NR sidelink measurement, the NR sidelink measurement object indicates one or more PRS resources / one or more PRS resource sets to be measured. One or more PRS resource IDs / one or more PRS resource set IDs that the UE needs to measure can be included in SL-MeasObject-r16 (which is embedded in SL-MeasObjectList-SL-MeasConfig-r16-RRCReconfigurationSidelink).
[0090] Add PRS as a new RS type in the NR sidelink report configuration. Add SL-PRS in SL-RS-Type-r16 (which is embedded in SL-ReportConfig-r16-SL-ReportConfigInfo-r16-
[0091] SL-ReportConfigList-SL-MeasConfig-r16-RRCReconfigurationSidelink).
[0092] Add SL-PRS-RSRP, SL-RSRPP,
[0093] At least one of SL-PRS-TOA, SL-PRS-RTOA, SL-PRS-Rx-Tx time difference, SL-PRS-RSTD, SL-PRSRx beam index. If SL-PRS-Rx-Tx time difference is configured in the reporting format, it means that the initiating UE wants the target UE to measure the round-trip SL PRS.
[0094] In addition to periodic or event-triggered reports, a new reporting standard is added specifically for SL PRS measurements. The new reporting standard can be configured in sl-ReportType-r16.
[0095] Add new events for SL PRS measurement. For example, S3 is triggered when the UE receives a location request and needs to perform SL positioning.

[0098] When the target UE receives the RRCConfigurationsIDlink with the above SL PRS measurement configuration, the target UE performs SL PRS measurement and reports to the UE initiating RRCReconnfigurationSideLink via MeasurementReportSidelink. The SL PRS measurement result is added in SL-MeasResult-r16, and the SL PRS measurement result may include at least one of SL-PRS-RSRP, SL-RSRPP, SL-PRS-TOA, SL-PRS-RTOA, SL-PRS-Rx-Tx time difference, SL-PRS-RSTD, and SL-PRS Rx beam index. In another example, when the RRC layer of the UE receives the measurement report, the UE can pass it to the upper layer to calculate the positioning estimate.
[0099] Figure 7 Example sidelink communications are shown. In one example, a UE transmits / reports information to a node in response to a request from the node. The node receives the transmitted information from the UE. In this example, the information may be requested by the node. The request / response may include information about Figure 6 The information being discussed.
[0100] Figure 8Another example sidelink communication is shown. In one example, a node transmits / reports information to a UE in response to a request from the UE. The UE receives the transmitted information from the node. In this example, the information may be requested by the UE. The request / response may include information about Figure 6 The information discussed.
[0101] Fig. 9 An example layer structure is shown. Fig. 9 The layers shown in are only examples, and there may be more or fewer layers in various embodiments. Sidelink communication or PC5 signaling may be at different layers, as discussed in the following embodiments.
[0102] The V2X application layer can be regarded as a logical layer that generates, carries and / or transfers information from a V2X application server. The V2X application layer can be the same as or different from the V2X layer, and for one UE, both the V2X application and the V2X layer can be upper layers of the RRC.
[0103] The non-access layer (NAS) may also be an application layer or part of an application layer. The NAS layer may be an upper layer of the radio resource control (RRC), but a lower layer of the V2X application layer. In an example embodiment, PC5-S (PC5 signaling) between UEs may be NAS layer signaling. The V2X application layer or NAS layer may indicate a lower layer (such as PC5-RRC, medium access control (MAC) or physical layer (PHY)) for transmitting or receiving some control parameters of V2X transmission. The V2X application layer or NAS layer may also generate V2X service data and pass it to a lower layer for transmission to another UE. The above-mentioned V2X service data may be carried in the PSSCH and may be transmitted via broadcast, multicast or unicast. The transmission mode (broadcast, multicast or unicast) is also selected and indicated by the V2X application layer or NAS layer. An indication of the transmission type may be carried in the second-level sidelink control information (SCI) in the PSSCH. In some embodiments, there may be a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) and a radio link control (RLC) layer between the RRC layer and the MAC layer.
[0104] The V2X application server may exist in the UE, outside the UE (controlling several UEs), or in the network. If the V2X application server is in the network, it can transmit information to the UE via the uu interface. If the V2X application server is in the UE, it can transmit information to other UEs via the PC5 interface.
[0105] Fig.10 An example signaling structure with a timing-based sidelink (SL) positioning method is shown. Fig.10Two examples of sidelink communication signaling are shown in FIG. PC5 signaling can be transmitted at the NAS layer. PC5-RRC signaling can be transmitted at the RRC layer.
[0106] The timing-based positioning method in the side link may include an initiating UE sending multiple PRS resources (e.g., SLPRS1, SL PRS3, SL PRS5), and multiple target UEs receiving the PRS resources. Multiple target UEs may also send their PRS resources (e.g., SL PRS2, SL PRS 4, SL PRS6), and then the initiating UE may receive PRS resources from multiple target UEs. The initiating UE may measure the reference signal time difference (RSTD) measurement between the PRS resources of different target UEs (e.g., RSTD 1 and RSTD 2), and the initiating UE may also measure multiple round-trip times corresponding to each target UE between its transmitted PRS and its received PRS (e.g., the Rx Tx time difference of the initiating UE). The Rx Tx time difference of the initiating UE, the Rx Tx time difference of the initiating UE, and each target UE may measure its round-trip time between the received PRS of the initiating UE and its transmitted PRS (e.g., the RxTx time difference of target UE 1, the Rx Tx time difference of target UE 2, the Rx Tx time difference of target UE 3).
[0107] PC5 signaling can be transmitted between UEs after the unicast link is established, or before the unicast link is established. If it is before the unicast link is established, the PC5 signaling can be transmitted via broadcast or multicast. If it is after the unicast link is established, the PC5 signaling can be transmitted via broadcast, multicast or unicast.
[0108] In some embodiments, V2X service data including SL positioning configuration may be broadcast / multicast. In this example, the initiating UE is a UE that wants to obtain its own position through sidelink positioning, and the one or more target UEs are one or more UEs to which the initiating UE sends / receives SL-PRS. The initiating UE may be pre-configured with the Tx SL PRS configuration and the known position of the target UE, which may come from any source, such as GNSS or default factory settings. One or more target UEs may be pre-configured with the Tx SL PRS configuration. The two pre-configurations of Tx PRS may be the same or different. If different, it is assumed that the initiating UE and one or more target UEs know each other's Tx PRS configuration according to the pre-configuration or indication of the v2x application layer. A list of V2X service identifiers to destination layer 2IDs for broadcast mapping rules may be provided to the initiating UE and one or more target UEs, respectively. Each mapping rule includes one or more V2X service identifiers and a destination layer 2ID for broadcast or multicast.
[0109] The v2x application layer of the initiating UE and one or more target UEs sets a new V2X service type for sidelink positioning. The V2X service type can also be represented as a V2X service identifier. The location request of the initiating UE can be embedded in the V2X service data and broadcast or multicast to one or more target UEs. When the initiating UE broadcasts or multicasts its location request, one or more target UEs interested in this service type can send SL-PRS according to the pre-configured PRS configuration. The initiating UE can also send SL-PRS according to the pre-configured PRS configuration. Then, the initiating UE and one or more target UEs both receive each other's SL-PRS, and they can perform SL-PRS measurements.
[0110] The above V2X service data can be transparent to the lower layers (RRC, MAC, PHY). On the transmission side, it can be generated at the V2X application layer and sent to the lower layer for transmission. On the receiving side, the V2X service data can be sent from the lower layer to the upper layer (NAS layer or application layer) for processing.
[0111] Fig.11 An example signaling structure with a new logical layer for sidelink positioning is shown. In one embodiment, the new logical layer can be between the NAS layer and the RRC layer. The new logical layer can be used to transmit SL positioning related information. The new layer can be between the PC5-S layer and the PC5-RRC layer (NAS layer and AS layer), or the new layer can be between the V2X application layer and the NAS layer (such as Fig.12 In another embodiment, the new logical layer may be in parallel with the NAS layer or the RRC layer or the application layer. The new logical layer may be included in the NAS layer or the application layer, and the signaling transmitted in the new layer may be PC5 signaling or PC5-RRC signaling, or a new version of signaling, such as the SL positioning protocol. The new signaling transmitted in the new logical layer may also be a NAS message / NAS signaling.
[0112] Fig.12 Another example signaling structure with new logical layers is shown. Fig.11 The new logical layer in is located between the NAS layer and the RRC layer. Fig.12 It is an alternative embodiment, in which the new logical layer is between the V2X application layer and the NAS layer. The new logical layer can be used to transmit SL positioning related information. Alternatively, the new logical layer is included in the NAS layer or the application layer, and the signaling transmitted in the new layer can be PC5 signaling or PC5-RRC signaling, or a new version of signaling, such as the SL positioning protocol. The new signaling transmitted in the new logical layer can also be called NAS message / NAS signaling.
[0113] Fig.13An example of timing for sidelink positioning communication is shown. The SL PRS may be sent periodically, semi-persistently, or dynamically. In some embodiments, the SL PRS may be configured with a period, and for periodic SL PRS, when the UE receives a measurement request, the UE may be ready to receive the SL PRS. For semi-persistent SL PRS, the lower layer may trigger some SL PRS transmissions from higher layer configurations. For dynamic SL PRS, the SCI may trigger dynamic SL PRS transmissions.
[0114] Fig.14 An example of sidelink positioning communication using PC5 signaling is shown. In this example, Figure 6 All signaling shown in is transmitted via PC5-S, which can be transmitted via the NAS layer. This includes location request, location response, capability, auxiliary data, measurement request and measurement report. PC5 signaling can be dedicated to SL positioning. In other words, the positioning capability is performed in the NAS layer. The initiating UE can send SL positioning-related control signaling via PC5 signaling in the NAS layer. The SL positioning-related control signaling can be at least one of UE location request, UE location response, side link capability request, side link capability configuration, UE auxiliary data request, UE auxiliary information configuration, SL measurement request or SL measurement report.
[0115] Fig.15 An example of sidelink positioning communication at a new logical layer is shown. Fig.15 middle, Figure 6 All signaling shown in is transmitted via the new logical layer for sidelink positioning. This includes location request, location response, capability, assistance data, measurement request and measurement report. In one embodiment, the new logical layer is introduced between the PC5-S layer and the PC5-RRC layer (NAS layer and AS layer). In another embodiment, the new logical layer is parallel to the NAS layer or RRC layer. In another embodiment, the new logical layer is included in the NAS layer. This embodiment shows that the transmission from the new logical layer for sidelink positioning is carried out via the new logical layer for sidelink positioning. Figure 6 However, in other embodiments, only a subset of the signaling may be transmitted at the logical layer.
[0116] Fig.16 An example of sidelink positioning communication using PC5 sidelink (PC5-S) signaling and PC5 radio resource control (RRC) signaling is shown. In this example, the PC5-S signaling (on the NAS layer) transmits the Figure 6 A subset of the signals from Figure 6In this example, the location request and location response are transmitted via PC5-S, while other information is transmitted via PC5-RRC. This is just one example, and other embodiments show different information transmitted by different layers with different signaling.
[0117] Location requests and location responses are transmitted in PC5-S, while capabilities, assistance data, measurement requests and measurement reports are transmitted in PC5-RRC. The initiating UE is a UE that wishes to obtain its own position through sidelink positioning, and the one or more target UEs are one or more UEs to which the initiating UE sends / receives SL-PRS. In this example, the initiating UE and one or more target UEs can establish a unicast link via PC5-S signaling including a SL location request, and after the unicast link is established, PC5-RRC signaling is used to configure control information for SL positioning. When the V2X application layer or the network indicates that the initiating UE needs to initiate SL positioning, the initiating UE can send a DIRECT LINK ESTABLISHMENTREQUEST message to multiple other target UEs for unicast link establishment. In the DIRECT LINK ESTABLISHMENT REQUEST message, in addition to the existing IEs, the initiating UE may also include at least one of the following:
[0118] SL positioning specific V2X service identifier received from upper layers;
[0119] ·Execute SL positioning request;
[0120] · receiving a request for a SL PRS from one or more other UEs;
[0121] · A request to transmit a SL PRS to one or more other UEs;
[0122] Receiving a request for assistance data configuration from one or more other UEs;
[0123] · Transmitting a request for assistance data configuration to one or more other UEs;
[0124] Required KPIs and positioning requirements, including positioning accuracy, response time, horizontal accuracy, vertical accuracy, timing quality, etc.
[0125] SL positioning method, such as whether to measure a one-way PRS and provide a one-way measurement value, or to measure a multi-way PRS and provide a round-trip measurement, or to measure a SL PRS and a DL PRS and provide a general measurement value, or to measure a SL PRS and a UL SRS and provide a general measurement value, or to measure RSTD, or to measure AoA, or to measure AoD.
[0126] Multiple UEs may receive the message, and if one or more target UEs are interested in this service type (SL positioning), the one or more target UEs may create and send a direct link setup accept message to the initiating UE. Then, a unicast link between the UE pair (e.g., an initiating UE and one or more target UEs) is established.
[0127] In another embodiment, the initiating UE may send SL positioning related control signaling via PC5 signaling in the NAS layer. The initiating UE includes the above location request in a new IE in the PRC5 signaling. The PC5 signaling may be transmitted before or after the unicast link is established. The PC5 signaling may be transmitted via broadcast, multicast or unicast.
[0128] The initiating UE and the target UE can interact with each other via PC5-RRC messages regarding their auxiliary data configuration and UE SL positioning-related capabilities. The UE SL positioning-related capability interaction includes at least one of a sidelink-related capability request and a sidelink-related capability response, and may be included in UECapabilityEnquirySidelink and UECapabilityInformationSidelink, respectively. The UE auxiliary data configuration interaction includes at least one of an auxiliary data request and an auxiliary data response / configuration, and may be included in RRCReconfigurationSidelink. In other embodiments, IEs may be introduced in the PC5-RRC signaling to include auxiliary data requests and auxiliary data responses / configurations, respectively. In this example, the initiating UE and the target UE may independently create their auxiliary data configurations (self-configuration / self-generation of AD).
[0129] In another embodiment, if the initiating UE and the target UE have obtained the auxiliary data configuration through pre-configuration or network indication (for example, the same or different auxiliary data configuration), the initiating UE and the target UE are allowed to modify the auxiliary data configuration via PC5-RRC signaling. For example, the SL UE capabilities and auxiliary data configurations for SL positioning are configured in UECapabilityEnquirySidelink, UECapabilityInformationSidelink and / or RRCReconfigurationSidelink. In another example, some UE capabilities or some auxiliary data configurations that are different from the pre-configuration or network indication may be included in UECapabilityEnquirySidelink, UECapabilityInformationSidelink and / or RRCReconfigurationSidelink. In another example, the SL UE capabilities and / or auxiliary data configurations (or some of the UE capabilities or some of the auxiliary data settings that are different from the pre-configuration or network indication) may include new PC5-RRC parameters and broadcast or multicast in the area.
[0130] Fig.17 Another example of sidelink positioning communication using PC5 sidelink (PC5-S) signaling and PC5 radio resource control (RRC) signaling is shown. In this example, location request, location response, measurement request and measurement response are transmitted on the NAS layer via PC5-S signaling, while capabilities and auxiliary data are transmitted on the RRC layer via PC5-RRC signaling. Measurement requests and measurement reports can be generated and / or processed at the NAS layer. There may be new IEs in PC5 signaling to indicate measurement requests and measurement reports. In this example, the initiating UE and one or more target UEs can establish a unicast link via PC5-s signaling containing a SL location request, and after the unicast link is established, PC5-RRC signaling is used to configure control information for SL positioning. When the V2X application layer indicates that the initiating UE needs to initiate SL positioning, the initiating UE can send a DIRECT LINK ESTABLISHMENT REQUEST message to multiple other target UEs to establish a unicast link. In the DIRECT LINK ESTABLISHMENT REQUEST message, the initiating UE should include at least one of the following:
[0131] SL positioning specific V2X service identifier received from upper layers;
[0132] ·Execute SL positioning request;
[0133] · receiving a request for a SL PRS from one or more other UEs;
[0134] · A request to transmit a SL PRS to one or more other UEs;
[0135] Receiving a request for assistance data configuration from one or more other UEs;
[0136] · Transmitting a request for assistance data configuration to one or more other UEs;
[0137] Required KPIs and positioning requirements, such as positioning accuracy, response time, horizontal accuracy, vertical accuracy, timing quality, etc.
[0138] ·The required SL positioning method, such as: whether to measure a one-way PRS and provide a one-way measurement value, or measure a multi-way PRS and provide a round-trip measurement, or measure a SL PRS and a DL PRS and provide a general measurement value, or measure a SL PRS and a ULSRS and provide a general measurement value, or measure RSTD, or measure AoA, or measure AoD.
[0139] Multiple UEs can receive this message, and if one or more target UEs are interested in this service type, one or more target UEs will create and send a DIRECT LINK ESTABLISMENT ACCEPT message to the initiating UE. A unicast link between a pair of UEs (an initiating UE and one or more target UEs) is established. In another example, the initiating UE can send SL positioning-related control signaling via PC5 signaling in the NAS layer. The initiating UE includes the above-mentioned location request in a new IE in the PRC5 signaling. These PC5 signalings can be sent before or after the unicast link has been established. These PC5 signalings can be sent via broadcast, multicast or unicast. In an alternative embodiment, any signaling can be transmitted through a new logical layer instead of PC5 signaling or PC5-RRC signaling.
[0140] Fig.18An example of sidelink positioning communication using PC5 radio resource control (RRC) signaling is shown. Current PC5-RRC signaling may include MeasurementReportSidelink, RRCReconfigurationSidelink, RRCReconfigurationCompleteSidelink, RRCReconfigurationFailureSidelink, UECapabilityEnquirySidelink and / or UECapabilityInformationSidelink. These PC5-RRC signalings may be used for unicast links and may be transmitted only after PC5-S has established a unicast link. When these PC5-RRC signalings are passed down to lower layers for transmission, they may be transmitted in PSSCH and the transmission type in SCI will be set to unicast.
[0141] In order to reduce positioning delay, there may be new IEs in PC5-RRC signaling to broadcast / multicast SL positioning related information. Broadcast / multicast signaling may exist in the RRC layer. Broadcast / multicast PC5-RRC signaling can be transmitted without a PC5-S unicast link established, or even when a unicast link has been established, one UE can still broadcast / multicast some PC5-RRC signaling to other UEs. Using these PC5-RRC signals, new IEs can be broadcast and / or multicast via PC5-RRC signaling, which are passed to lower layers for transmission. They can also be transmitted in PSSCH, and the broadcast type in SCI can be set to broadcast or multicast. A new SCI format can be introduced to schedule PSSCH containing broadcast / multicast PC5-RRC signaling.
[0142] The above-mentioned SL positioning related information may be at least one of a location request, a location response, a capability request related to UE side link positioning, a capability response / configuration related to UE side link positioning, a side link auxiliary data information request, a side link auxiliary data information response / configuration, a measurement request, and a measurement report / response. The SL auxiliary data (or SL PRS configuration, such as PRS periodicity) in the RRC signaling may be incremental SL auxiliary data, and the incremental SL auxiliary data (or SL-PRS configuration, such as PRS periodicity) is a modification of the pre-configured auxiliary data (or SL-PRS-configuration, such as PRS periodicity). Alternatively, the above-mentioned SL positioning related information may be determined or generated at the NAS or application layer and passed to the RRC layer for transmission.
[0143] Fig.19Another example of sidelink positioning communication using PC5 radio resource control (RRC) signaling is shown. In this example, location requests, location responses, measurement requests and measurement responses, capabilities and assistance data are all transmitted on the RRC layer via PC5-RRC signaling. In this embodiment, the initiating UE and the target UE have established multiple unicast links for transmitting PC5-RRC signaling.
[0144] If the upper layer (AF, application layer, application server, V2X layer or NAS layer) issues a location request via positioning or SL positioning, the upper layer can pass the request to the RRC layer of the UE. New PC5-RRC signaling can be introduced to include a location request. In addition, the initiating UE and the target UE can interact with each other via unicast PC5-RRC messages about their auxiliary data configuration and UE SL positioning-related capabilities. The UE SL positioning-related capability interaction may include at least one of a sidelink-related capability request and a sidelink-related capability response, and may be included in UECapabilityEnquirySidelink and UECapabilityInformationSidelink, respectively. The UE auxiliary data configuration interaction includes at least one of an auxiliary data request and an auxiliary data response, and may be included in RRCReconfigurationSidelink. A new IE can be introduced in PC5-RRC signaling to include auxiliary data requests and auxiliary data responses / configurations, respectively. It can be used when the initiating UE and the target UE independently create their auxiliary data configurations (self-configuration / self-generated AD). It can be used when the initiating UE and the target UE independently create their auxiliary data configurations.
[0145] In another embodiment, if the initiating UE and the target UE have obtained the auxiliary data configuration through pre-configuration or through network indication (the same or different auxiliary data configuration), the initiating UE and the target UE may be allowed to modify the auxiliary data configuration via PC5-RRC unicast signaling. In another example, the SL UE capabilities and / or auxiliary data configurations (or some UE capabilities or some auxiliary data configurations that are different from the pre-configuration or network indication) may be included in new PC5-RRC parameters and broadcast or multicast in the area.
[0146] Alternatively, the above-mentioned location request, UE side link capability and / or UE SL assistance data may be determined or generated at the NAS or application layer and passed to the RRC layer for transmission. The measurement configuration request and the measurement report may be processed in the RRC layer, the NAS layer, or a new layer. The measurement request and the measurement report may be new IEs introduced in the RRC layer, the NAS layer, and / or a new layer. The measurement request may be included in the RRCReconfigurationSidelink of the RRC layer.
[0147] Fig. 20An example of a side link positioning communication for measurement is shown. A side link (SL) measurement request or trigger may be at the MAC layer of the physical (PHY) layer. A measurement request (PRS activation / deactivation / PRS request) may be in the SCI / MAC-CE. With respect to the SL measurement request / trigger, regardless of which layer the location request is at, the capabilities and auxiliary data are interactive. In one embodiment, the lower layer triggers. The UE may be pre-configured or one or more auxiliary data configurations indicated by the network. An auxiliary data configuration may also include one or more SL PRS configurations. There may be no auxiliary data configuration, and the upper layer will only provide one or more SL PRS configurations. When PC5-RRC signaling configures the auxiliary data configuration / information or SL PRS configuration and passes it to the lower layer for transmission, the auxiliary data configuration or SL PRS configuration is visible in the lower layer. The lower layer may modify / add / delete the SL auxiliary data configuration or SL PRS configuration provided by the upper layer, and the lower layer may also trigger SLPRS transmission or trigger SL positioning based on the SL PRS configuration provided by the upper layer. The lower layer may be a MAC layer or a PHY layer. Specifically, these layers may be MAC-CE or SCI (first level SCI or second level SCI), and the changes or triggers may include:
[0148] 1) The selected SL PRS resource ID / SL PRS resource set ID in the auxiliary data configuration or SL PRS configuration is used to indicate that the initiating UE can send the selected PRS. If the SCI or MAC CE containing this content is sent, the initiating UE should start sending the corresponding SL PRS; if the SCI or MAC CE that can include this content is received by other target UEs, the other target UEs should start receiving the corresponding SL PRS;
[0149] 2) The selected SL PRS resource ID / SL PRS resource set ID in the auxiliary data configuration or SL PRS configuration to indicate the PRS that the initiating UE wishes to receive from other target UEs. If an SCI or MAC CE including this content is sent, the initiating UE should start receiving the corresponding SL PRS; if an SCI or MAC CE including this content is received by other target UEs, the other target UEs should start sending the corresponding SL PRS; or
[0150] 3) deleted SL PRS resource ID / SL PRS resource set ID in the auxiliary data configuration or SL PRS configuration;
[0151] 4) Initiate a request for SL PRS transmission based on the auxiliary data configuration or SL PRS configuration trigger provided by the upper layer; or
[0152] 5) Changed PRS features. For example, SL-PRS resource ID / SL-PRS resource set ID / auxiliary data configuration ID / SL-PRS configuration ID, and at least one of the following that may be carried in a medium access control control element (MAC-CE) or SCI: SL-PRS priority, SL-PRS periodicity, SL-PRS resource offset, SL-PRS resource repetition factor, SL-PRS resource time gap, SL-PRS mute pattern, SL-PRS resource power, SL-PRS sequence ID, SL-PRS comb size, SL-PRS SCS, SL-PRS-RB set, response time. The above IEs may be changed IEs compared to pre-configuration or network indication.
[0153] In another embodiment, the NAS or PC5-RRC layer triggers. PC5 signaling or PC5-RRC signaling can also instruct other UEs to perform SL PRS measurements. This can include new PC5 signaling for indicating SL positioning measurement requests.
[0154] In another embodiment, a new layer triggers. A new logical layer can be introduced between the PC5-S layer and the PC5-RRC layer (NAS layer and AS layer), or in parallel with the NAS layer or RRC layer. The new logical layer can be part of the NAS layer. The SL positioning measurement request can be transmitted and transported through this new layer.
[0155] For the sidelink (SL) measurement report, it can be reported to the RRC layer. The position estimation can be completed in the RRC layer, or the RRC layer passes the measurement results to the upper layer (NAS or application layer) to calculate the position estimate. For the sidelink (SL) measurement report, it can be reported to the NAS layer or the application layer. After the UE performs the SL PRS measurement, the UE can exchange the SL PRS measurement report. The measurement report is passed from the PHY layer to the NAS layer or the application layer to calculate the position. There may be new PC5 signaling to include the SL positioning measurement report. For the sidelink (SL) measurement report, it can be reported to the new layer. The SL positioning measurement report can be transmitted and transmitted through this new layer.
[0156] Fig.21 An example of sidelink location communication is shown. Fig.21 The UE is shown communicating with a network, which may include information about Figure 5 The components described. The network node provides a sidelink (SL) request to the UE. The UE provides a SL location response to the network. There may be a target UE (TU) and a peer UE (PU). [0160] TU is not within the coverage area, but PU is within the coverage area: PU interacts with NW via the uu interface.
[0161] There may be several interactions between UE and NW. For UE within coverage / partial coverage, NW can send a location request to UE to instruct UE to perform SL positioning. Figure 5 As shown, the NW can be LMF, AMF, NG-RAN node, V2X application server at NW, TRP, gNB and / or ng-eNB.
[0162] Fig. 22 Another example of sidelink position communication is shown. The network node provides a SL location response to the UE. There may be a target UE (TU) and a peer UE (PU). For UEs within coverage / partial coverage, the UE is able to send a location request to the NW and request the NW to allocate / indicate auxiliary information.
[0163] Fig.23 An example of auxiliary information communication is shown. One or more NG-RAN nodes or UEs can report their auxiliary information to the LMF, and / or enable the NW LMF to send available auxiliary information to UEs within the coverage area / partial coverage area. Figure 6 As shown, the auxiliary information may include the SL auxiliary data configuration of the UE, including the SL PRS configuration to be sent by the UE; the SL auxiliary data configuration of other counterpart UEs, including the known location of the counterpart UE and / or the SL PRS configuration of the counterpart UE; or the sidelink-related capabilities of other counterpart UEs.

[0165] In an alternative embodiment, UEs within coverage / partial coverage may be allowed to perform uu-based positioning as well as SL positioning, and UEs within coverage / partial coverage may be instructed by the NW to simultaneously perform uu-based PRS measurements and SL PRS measurements. Uu-based positioning may be specified in R16 and R17, RAT-related / RAT-independent positioning methods between UE-NG-RAN node-LMF.
