Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to soft focus cosmetic compositions and methods for reducing the appearance of skin imperfections. Background Art
[0002] To meet regulatory requirements, consumer demands and the need to reduce environmental impact, the cosmetics industry is committed to moving away from silicone. Natural oils have been used as one of the main candidates to replace silicone in cosmetics because they can bring many skin care benefits to products. However, replacing silicone with natural oils in full or in part in soft-focus cosmetics poses great technical challenges because silicone has a very different reflectivity from natural oils.
[0003] Soft focus cosmetic compositions are highly desirable because they can achieve a natural skin appearance with fewer skin imperfections. Specifically, soft focus cosmetic compositions can hide skin imperfections by scattering incident light to blur skin imperfections, but still allow natural skin features to appear, whereas simple covering techniques give an undesirable, unreal appearance by losing most of the natural skin features. A recognized standard soft focus effect measurement is diffuse reflectance. The higher the diffuse reflectance of a composition, the better its soft focus effect.
[0004] Soft focus cosmetic compositions typically contain particles and a liquid carrier, wherein the particles have a different refractive index than the liquid carrier. It is generally recognized in the cosmetic industry that the greater the difference in refractive index between the particles and the liquid carrier in the composition, the better the soft focus effect may be. For example, many particles commonly used in soft focus cosmetic compositions have a refractive index of about 1.46, and the silicone used for the liquid carrier in such compositions has a refractive index of about 1.38. This difference in refractive index results in the desired soft focus effect in the cosmetic composition.
[0005] However, when natural oils are substituted for silicones, the reflectance of natural oils (about 1.46) is very similar to particles commonly used in soft-focus cosmetic compositions, making it very challenging to achieve a meaningful soft-focus effect in cosmetic compositions based on natural oils rather than silicones.
[0006] Another challenge of soft focus cosmetic compositions is the balance between soft focus effect and gloss effect. While soft focus effect can hide skin imperfections, too much of this effect can result in low skin gloss. Gloss is considered an indicator of healthy skin and is highly desired by consumers. The recognized standard gloss measurement is specular reflectance. The higher the specular reflectance of a composition, the better its gloss. A good gloss effect in a soft focus cosmetic composition is highly desired by consumers but is always challenging to produce.
[0007] The present disclosure relates to a cosmetic composition having an unexpected soft focus effect, comprising at least one natural oil, at least one blurring agent, and at least one water-in-oil emulsifier. Surprisingly, good skin glossiness can also be achieved in such a soft focus cosmetic composition. The present disclosure also relates to a method for reducing the appearance of skin blemishes by using such a soft focus cosmetic composition. Summary of the invention
[0008] The present invention relates to a soft-focus cosmetic composition comprising at least one natural oil, at least one blurring agent and at least one water-in-oil emulsifier.
[0009] The present invention is also directed to a method of reducing the appearance of skin imperfections by applying to the surface of the skin a composition comprising at least one natural oil, at least one blurring agent, and at least one water-in-oil emulsifier. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0010] As used herein, the singular forms "a," "an," and "the" include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.
[0011] As used herein, a sentence reciting a series of alternatives has the meaning of providing a series of sentences such that each given alternative is provided in a separate sentence. For example, the sentence "The composition comprises A, B, or C" has the meaning of the following three separate sentences: "Alternatively, the composition comprises A. Alternatively, the composition comprises B. Alternatively, the composition comprises C."
[0012] As used herein, "and / or" has the meaning of "and" or "or". For example, "A and / or B" has the meaning of "A, B, or both A and B".
[0013] As used herein, "skin imperfection" means any type of mark, spot, discoloration, or defect that appears on the skin. Non-limiting examples of skin imperfections are wrinkles and fine lines.
[0014] As used herein, "soluble" means that the solute partially or completely (and preferably completely) dissolves in the solvent, and preferably forms an equilibrium concentration of at least about 0.001 mg / mL at 25° C. "Oil-soluble active" means that the active partially or completely (and preferably completely) dissolves in the natural oil, and preferably forms an equilibrium concentration of at least about 0.001 mg / mL at 25° C. "Water-soluble active" means that the active partially or completely (and preferably completely) dissolves in water, and preferably forms an equilibrium concentration of at least about 0.001 mg / mL at 25° C.
[0015] It has been unexpectedly discovered that a natural oil-based cosmetic composition can achieve a soft focus effect. The present disclosure relates to a soft focus cosmetic composition comprising at least one natural oil and at least one blurring agent. The present disclosure also relates to a method for reducing the appearance of skin blemishes by using a soft focus cosmetic composition comprising at least one natural oil and at least one blurring agent.
[0016] The method for reducing the appearance of skin blemishes may include the following steps: a) identifying a skin area in need of reducing the appearance of skin blemishes; b) topically applying a soft-focus cosmetic composition to the skin area. Preferably, after applying the soft-focus cosmetic composition, the effect of reducing the appearance of skin blemishes is immediately achieved.
[0017] The soft-focus cosmetic composition may be in the form of an emulsion, cream, lotion, paste, suspension, powder, gel, air cushion powder, hot pour or aerosol. Preferably, the soft-focus cosmetic composition is in the form of an emulsion, lotion or gel. More preferably, the soft-focus cosmetic composition is in the form of an emulsion. An emulsion is a colloidal system consisting of two liquid phases of oil and water, one of which (the internal phase) is dispersed into the other (the external phase). The emulsion may be stable or metastable. The most preferred form of the soft-focus cosmetic composition is a water-in-oil (W / O) emulsion. A W / O emulsion means an emulsion consisting of an aqueous phase (internal phase) dispersed into a continuous oil phase (external phase). At least one natural oil is in the external phase of the water-in-oil emulsion. According to a preferred embodiment, the external phase of the W / O emulsion is mainly composed of natural oils. W / O emulsions with activators deliver water- and oil-soluble line and wrinkle actives to reduce long-term lines and wrinkles and provide more texture options. W / O emulsions retain pigments and film formers in the external phase for true color appearance and long-lasting hold.
[0018] While the soft focus cosmetic composition may be provided as a foundation, it should be understood that these compositions may be used in other cosmetics, including but not limited to concealers, oil gels, lip glosses, cushion foundations, hot injections, and / or eyeshadows. In embodiments of the present disclosure, the composition may be provided as a daytime foundation and nighttime colorless body lotion, a foundation with SPF 30, a silicone-free foundation, and / or an all-around anti-aging active substance / oil box (for the delivery of cosmetic actives).
[0019] According to yet another alternative embodiment, the soft-focus cosmetic composition is substantially free of silicone. “Substantially free of silicone” means that silicone is present in the soft-focus cosmetic composition in an amount of less than 0.01% by total weight based on the total weight of the soft-focus cosmetic composition.
[0020] The soft focus cosmetic composition of the present disclosure has a diffuse reflectance of at least 2.5. The soft focus cosmetic composition can provide dual benefits with a single foundation formula: high gloss and high blurring effect at the same time. Conventional foundation formulas use a large number of particles to obtain a blurring effect. However, this approach often causes the skin to look matte and dull. The embodiments of the present disclosure can provide unique properties that have both a soft focus effect and a high gloss appearance. The soft focus cosmetic composition of the present disclosure has a specular reflectance of at least 3.4.

Including natural oils can also enhance the delivery of oil-soluble active substances in cosmetic compositions. Due to the high partition coefficient (logP), natural oils can easily penetrate the lipid bilayer of the skin cell membrane. Oil-soluble active ingredients can enter the epidermis of the skin through the stratum corneum to obtain more preferred anti-aging efficacy performance.
[0029] Fuzzy Agent
[0030] Blurring agents are materials that are able to blur skin imperfections by manipulating the penetration and scattering of light entering and exiting the skin. Such blurring effects are also referred to as soft focus effects. Cosmetic compositions having such soft focus effects are soft focus cosmetic compositions. Skin imperfections such as wrinkles and fine lines are perceptible by the light and dark contrasts that highlight even very subtle lines. Soft focus cosmetic compositions can optically reduce the contrast and hide skin imperfections. Blurring agents do not often produce whiteness, but rather a naturally translucent surface. In order to achieve a blurring effect with a cosmetic composition, particles of a higher refractive index (RI) and a larger RI difference between the blurring agent and the vehicle may be required.

[0084] experiment
[0085] Example 1
[0086] The oil blend was prepared by mixing 5 parts of jojoba (Simmonsdia chinesis) seed oil, 5 parts of coconut (Cocos nucifera) oil, 20 parts of avocado (Persea gratissima) oil, 10 parts of argan (Argania spinosa) kernel oil, 20 parts of olive (Olea europaea) fruit oil and 3.75 parts of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) oil at room temperature until fully dissolved. All parts are by weight.
[0087] Example 2
[0088] The cosmetic base (Sample 1) was prepared by mixing 7 parts of the oil mixture of Example 1 with 50 parts of water. The cosmetic composition was prepared by adding 5 parts of the particulate material (as shown in Table 1) to 95 parts of the cosmetic base and mixing for about 15 minutes to achieve uniform and complete dispersion. All parts are based on weight.
[0089] The spectral reflectance of the obtained cosmetic composition was tested using a spectrometer (KONICA MINOLTA CM700D spectrometer). Within 1 minute, the sample was evenly applied to the PMMA Helioplate HD6 using fingers and moderate force in a circular and cross-shaped manner. The fingers were cleaned with alcohol and pre-saturated with the sample. The FDA recommended application dose is 2 mg / cm 2 The prepared specimens were allowed to dry at room temperature for 20 minutes prior to testing.
[0090] After calibration of the KONICA MINOLTA CM700D spectrophotometer, the instrument was set to reflectance spectrum mode with both Specular Component Included (SCI) and Specular Component Excluded (SCE). An 8 mm target mask was attached to the instrument to obtain a larger measurement area. The visible spectrum between 400 nm and 700 nm was selected for full color spectral analysis.
[0091] The prepared sample is placed on the black side of the Leneta chart for reflectivity testing to eliminate light reflection from the Leneta chart background. Both diffuse reflectivity and total reflectivity are measured. Use diffuse reflectivity data as a blur index because it captures all light scattered by the makeup film from 0 to 180 degrees. In order to compare the blur effect, use the diffuse reflectivity of the peak of the spectrum. For example, for liquid foundation cosmetics, use the reflectivity at a wavelength of 620nm to represent the foundation tone.

[0093]
[0094] As shown in Table 1, Sample 3 (Sunspheres), Sample 4 (SH219), Sample 5 (SH219-AS), and Sample 6 (Chione HD Infinite White S130v) provide unexpectedly high diffuse reflectance (much greater than 2.5), thus achieving an unexpected soft focus effect using these natural oil-based compositions.
[0095] Example 3
[0096] A cosmetic base (Sample 1) was prepared by mixing 7 parts of the oil mixture of Example 1 with 50 parts of water. A cosmetic composition was prepared by adding the particulate material to the cosmetic base according to the weight percentages of Table 2 and mixing for about 15 minutes to achieve uniform and complete dispersion. All parts are based on weight. Specific materials A is Chione HD Infinite White S130v (INCI: synthetic fluorphlogopite / titanium dioxide, available from BASF); B is SH219 (INCI: silica / titanium dioxide, available from Sunjin Beauty Science); and C is Sunsphere (INCI: styrene / acrylate copolymer, available from Dow).
[0097] The spectral reflectance of the obtained cosmetic composition was tested using a spectrometer (KONICA MINOLTA CM700D spectrometer).
[0098] After calibration of the KONICA MINOLTA CM700D spectrophotometer, the instrument was set to reflectance spectrum mode with both Specular Component Included (SCI) and Specular Component Excluded (SCE). An 8 mm target mask was attached to the instrument to obtain a larger measurement area. The visible spectrum between 400 nm and 700 nm was selected for full color spectral analysis.
[0099] The prepared sample was placed on the black side of a Leneta chart for reflectivity testing to eliminate light reflection from the Leneta chart background. Both diffuse reflectivity and total reflectivity were measured. Specular reflectivity was calculated according to the following equation: (Reflectivity 总计 =Reflectivity 漫射 +Reflectivity 镜面反射 Use diffuse reflectance data as a blurring indicator because it captures all light scattered by the makeup film from 0 to 180 degrees. To compare blurring effects, use the diffuse reflectance at the peak of the spectrum. For example, for liquid foundation makeup, use the reflectance at a wavelength of 620nm to represent the foundation tone.

[0101]
[0102] As shown in Table 2, all samples provide unexpectedly high diffuse reflectance (above 2.5) and high specular reflectance (above 3.4), thus achieving unexpected immediate soft focus and gloss effects using these natural oil-based compositions.
[0103] Example 3
[0104] The cosmetic base (Sample 1) was prepared by mixing 7 parts of the oil mixture of Example 1 with 50 parts of water. The soft focus cosmetic (Sample 24) composition was prepared as follows:
[0105] The sequence 1 materials were mixed and heated to 80°C at 5,000 RPM in a homogenizer. The prepared sequence 2 oil was added to the sequence 1 mixture and mixed thoroughly. The sequence 3 water was heated to 75°C, and then the sequence 4 materials were added to the water and mixed thoroughly. The sequence 3 and sequence 4 combination was transferred to the sequence 1 and sequence 2 combination in a homogenizer increased to 8,000 RPM, and then cooled to 30°C to form a cosmetic base. The soft focus cosmetic composition (sample 24) was made by adding the sequence 5 material to the cosmetic base and mixing for approximately 15 minutes to achieve uniform and complete dispersion.

[0110] The spectral reflectance of the obtained cosmetic composition was tested using a spectrometer (KONICA MINOLTA CM700D spectrometer). Within 1 minute, the sample was evenly applied to the PMMA Helioplate HD6 using fingers and moderate force in a circular and cross-shaped manner. The fingers were cleaned with alcohol and pre-saturated with the sample. The dosage recommended by the FDA is 2 mg / cm2. Before testing, the prepared sample was dried at room temperature for 20 minutes.
[0111] After calibration of the KONICA MINOLTA CM700D spectrophotometer, the instrument was set to reflectance spectrum mode with both Specular Component Included (SCI) and Specular Component Excluded (SCE). An 8 mm target mask was attached to the instrument to obtain a larger measurement area. The visible spectrum between 400 nm and 700 nm was selected for full color spectral analysis.
[0112] The prepared sample was placed on the black side of a Leneta chart for reflectivity testing to eliminate light reflection from the Leneta chart background.
