Description

[0001] Related Applications

[0002] This application claims the benefit of and priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0139558, filed on October 18, 2024, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Technical Field

[0003] The present disclosure relates to techniques for providing 3D vehicle content. Background Art

[0004] When visiting an automobile manufacturer's official website, a user may experience a program or web platform through which the user can see what the vehicle will look like while changing various options by manipulating a 3-dimensional (3D) model of the vehicle. Such a program or web platform uses a vehicle configurator to provide this functionality.

[0005] Vehicle configurators are digital tools that allow car buyers or car enthusiasts to select various options for a particular model and see the results visualized in real time. Such tools are hosted on the automaker's official website or app.

[0006] The user can select the color, wheels, interior trim, engine, exterior features, and other options for a particular car. The vehicle configurator then changes and displays the exterior or interior in real time based on the selected options. The vehicle configurator displays the vehicle using a 3D model, and the user can view the vehicle from various angles by rotating around the vehicle or zooming in / out on the vehicle. Some vehicle configurators allow the user to experience the vehicle in a real environment or virtual space using an augmented reality (AR) function or a virtual reality (VR) function.

[0007] When a new model is developed, the relevant automobile manufacturer develops a vehicle configurator for the new model. However, this model may vary by country and platform engineering (PE). This model may also vary by model year (MY). Since the automobile manufacturer newly develops the vehicle configurator every time a new model is produced, the development of the vehicle configurator also requires considerable cost and effort.

[0042] Figure 1 is a configuration diagram of a system for providing 3D vehicle contents according to an embodiment.

[0043] refer to Figure 1 , the system 100 may include a content providing device 110 , a design data server 120 , and a user device 130 .

[0044] The user device 130 may be a communication device including a display device.

[0045] The user device 130 may be a personal computing device in which an application such as a web browser is embedded. The user device 130 may display data transmitted from the content providing device 110 on a display screen using the web browser function.

[0046] The user device 130 may include a user operation recognition device that recognizes user operations, such as a keyboard, a mouse, a touch pad, etc. The user device 130 may generate user operation data using the user operation recognition device, and may transmit the user operation data to the content providing device 110. The content providing device 110 may change the data to be displayed according to the user operation data, and may transmit the data to the user device 130.

[0047] The user device 130 may display 3D vehicle content on a display screen. For example, a user may want to use the user device 130 to verify the 3D exterior and / or vehicle interior of a particular vehicle model. Therefore, the user device 130 may request 3D vehicle content data from the content providing device 110 and display the 3D vehicle content data received from the content providing device 110 on a display screen.

[0048] The user may wish to see the 3D vehicle content while changing the options, color, etc. of the car. The user may operate a user operation recognition device provided in the user device 130. The user device 130 may recognize the user operation, generate user operation data, and transmit the data to the content providing device 110. The content providing device 110 may change the 3D vehicle content data according to the user operation data, and transmit the data to the user device 130. The user device 130 may display the 3D vehicle content on the display screen based on the changed 3D vehicle content data.

[0049] The content providing device 110 may generate 3D vehicle content data, and may transmit the data to the user device 130 .

[0050] The content providing device 110 and the user device 130 may be connected to each other in a server-client manner. The user device 130 as a client may transmit request data to the server, and the content providing device 110 as a server may transmit 3D vehicle content data as response data to the request data.

[0051] The content providing device 110 may include a web server. The web server may communicate with the client using a protocol called Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). When a client such as a web browser requests information or resources from the web server, the web server may provide the information or resources. The web server included in the content providing device 110 may wait for a connection request at a specific IP address and port (typically, port 80 in the case of HTTP and port 443 in the case of HTTPS). When a web browser of a user device 130 or another client accesses the web server and requests information from the web server, the web server may receive such a request. Depending on the HTTP request method (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, etc.), such a request may be processed differently. The web server may analyze the request and may perform necessary operations. For example, when a request for a static web page is received, the web server searches for the corresponding file and returns the file. Conversely, when a request for a dynamic web page is received, the web server may generate content using an appropriate script or database and return the content. The web server may transmit the processed result or the requested resource to the client as an HTTP response. In addition to the requested data, the response may also include an HTTP status code (eg, 200 OK, 404 Not Found, etc.), header information, etc. The content providing device 110 may use such a network server to transmit the 3D vehicle content data to the user device 130 .

[0052] The content providing apparatus 110 may generate 3D vehicle content data by importing 3D vehicle data stored in the design data server 120 .

[0053] The 3D vehicle data may be data combining 3D design data items of respective parts forming a vehicle.

[0054] 3D vehicle data may be digital data used in various processes, such as design, manufacture, simulation, testing, etc. of a vehicle. Such 3D vehicle data may include a detailed representation of each component and overall structure of the vehicle, and is used to simulate or analyze the shape, function, and operation of the vehicle in a computer environment.

[0055] 3D vehicle data can include a detailed representation of the vehicle's internal structure, component settings, coupling methods, etc., as well as its external shape. This data can be used for various tests, such as impact simulation, aerodynamic simulation, fuel efficiency simulation, etc. Recently, a concept called "digital twin" has emerged, which refers to the digital reproduction of a physical object. When a digital twin of a vehicle is generated using 3D vehicle data, the digital twin can be used to monitor and predict the performance and operation of the actual vehicle in real time. Various computer-aided design (CAD) tools and software can be used to generate, edit, and manage 3D vehicle data. Such tools ensure the standardization and compatibility of data, allowing many suppliers and partners to exchange information smoothly.

[0056] When a design engineer generates such 3D vehicle data and stores it in the design data server 120 , the content providing apparatus 110 may generate 3D vehicle content data using the 3D vehicle data.

[0057] 3D vehicle data and 3D vehicle content data may differ from each other in various aspects. 3D vehicle data is mainly used for engineering and manufacturing processes, such as design, manufacturing, simulation, testing, etc. of vehicles, while 3D vehicle content data may be used for users to select the appearance, options, colors, and visualization of the vehicle. 3D vehicle content data may be mainly used for marketing, sales, and enhancing consumer experience purposes.

[0058] Due to their different purposes, 3D vehicle data and 3D vehicle content data may differ greatly in the level of detail of information. 3D vehicle data may include very detailed information, such as the internal structure, settings of components, coupling methods, material properties, etc., as well as the appearance of the vehicle, while 3D vehicle content data may exclude complex details, such as information on the internal structure or detailed components, because 3D vehicle content data is intended to show the user the appearance and main options of the vehicle.

[0059] Due to this difference, the size of 3D vehicle data may be large and require a high-performance graphics processing unit or dedicated software. In contrast, the size of 3D vehicle content data may be optimized for real-time rendering on a website or mobile app, or for minimizing loading time. The 3D vehicle content data may be data of a relatively small size and also optimized for smooth processing in a typical device.

[0060] The content providing apparatus 110 may convert the 3D vehicle data stored in the design data server 120 into data suitable for 3D vehicle content data characteristics.

[0061] Figure 2 is a configuration diagram of an apparatus for providing contents according to an embodiment.

[0062] refer to Figure 2, the content providing device 110 may include a 3D vehicle data processing circuit 210 , a combined data generating circuit 220 , a combined data mapping circuit 230 , and a 3D vehicle appearance output circuit 240 .

[0063] The 3D vehicle data processing circuit 210 may import the 3D vehicle data and may pre-process the 3D vehicle data.

[0064] The 3D vehicle data processing circuit 210 may include a graphics engine program capable of recognizing 3D vehicle data. The graphics engine program may be, for example, a 3D-MAX program. The 3D vehicle data processing circuit 210 may recognize 3D vehicle data and pre-process the 3D vehicle data using such a program.

[0065] The 3D vehicle data processing circuit 210 may simplify the depth of each node included in the 3D vehicle data to a predetermined degree.

[0066] 3D vehicle data may have a very complex structure. Since a vehicle includes hundreds or thousands of parts, the structure of the 3D model representing these parts may also be complex. If the concept of "node" is used, each part or component can be represented by a separate node, and the structure of the connection of the nodes can have a complex depth. A node may refer to a single object or component in a 3D model. For example, the corresponding parts of a vehicle's tires, seats, handles, and engine may be represented by nodes. Depth may refer to the hierarchical distance from the top node to a specific node in the connection structure or hierarchical structure between nodes. For example, when the overall structure of the vehicle is assumed to be the top node, the hierarchical distance to a specific component inside the engine may be the depth.

[0067] Due to the structure and complexity of 3D vehicle data, 3D vehicle data generally includes many nodes, and the connection structure between corresponding nodes may have a complex depth. Such complex depth may lead to an increase in the time of searching for parts. As data preprocessing, the 3D vehicle data processing circuit 210 according to the embodiment may simplify the depth of each node included in the 3D vehicle data to a predetermined degree as data preprocessing in order to support smooth mapping of combined data. For example, the predetermined degree may be a depth of 1-3 levels.

[0068] Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating a process in which a content providing apparatus simplifies the depth of each node according to an embodiment.

[0069] refer to Figure 3 , the content providing device can simplify the depth of nodes in the 3D vehicle data.

[0070] Figure 3 The rectangles on the left side show the nodes of the 3D vehicle data before simplifying the depth of the nodes. Figure 3The rectangles on the right show the nodes of the 3D vehicle data after simplifying the depth of the nodes.

[0071] refer to Figure 3 The rectangle on the left, with the top node representing the category or component indicated by "Wheel". Under the "Wheel" node, there are two nodes representing the two subcomponents or collections indicated by "1234 Component" and "1235 Component". Under these "Component" nodes, there are nodes representing more specific subcomponents indicated by "A1", "B1", "B2", and "C1", and under these nodes, there are nodes representing detailed items indicated by "S_1111", "S_1112", "S_1113", and "S_1114".

[0072] refer to Figure 3 In the right rectangle, the node "Wheel" is still at the top, and the nodes "1234 Part" and "1235 Part" also remain unchanged. However, the nodes of the middle-level child parts "A1", "B1", "B2", and "C1" are omitted, and the nodes of the detailed items "S_1111", "S_1112", "S_1113", and "S_1114" are directly connected just below the node of "Part".

[0073] In this way, the content providing device can simplify the hierarchical structure between nodes to reduce the total depth. In this way, the content providing device can make the data have a simpler structure to speed up data search or operation.

[0074] Reference again Figure 2 , the content providing device 110 may include a combined data generating circuit 220 .

[0075] The combination data generation circuit 220 may obtain bill of materials (BOM) data based on the options of the vehicle to be displayed.

[0076] BOM data is very important for automobile manufacturers. A vehicle may consist of thousands of parts, and BOM data may include various information of the parts, such as standards, materials, supplier information, required quantities, etc. BOM data can cover the entire process of a vehicle from subassembly to final assembly. For example, engine, transmission, brake system, electrical system, body panels, etc. can be parent categories of vehicle BOM data, and under each of these categories, more specific parts and their information can be listed.

[0077] In the case of a vehicle, the required parts or materials may differ depending on the options selected. For example, a navigation system, leather lining, sunroof, high-performance engine, etc. can be optional items. When a customer selects a specific option, the parts and materials required for that option can be added to the BOM data or an existing part can be replaced with another one.

[0078] In the case where the components have different colors, these components can be considered as different components or the same component. If these components are considered as the same component, the combination data generation circuit 220 can obtain color information separately.

[0079] The combined data generating circuit 220 may generate combined data using the BOM data. The combined data may be data for combining components to be displayed to the user in the 3D vehicle data. The combined data may also include color data of specific components. Such color data of specific components may be referred to as colored component data.

[0080] Figure 4 2 is a diagram showing a process in which the content providing apparatus generates assembly data using BOM data and colored component data according to an embodiment.

[0081] refer to Figure 4 , the content providing device can verify the part number included in the BOM data. In addition, the content providing device can verify the color data of the parts with color in the colored part data. The content providing device can also generate combined data using the BOM data and the colored part data.

[0082] Reference again Figure 2 , the content providing device 110 may include a combined data mapping circuit 230 and a 3D vehicle appearance output circuit 240 .

[0083] The combined data mapping circuit 230 may search the 3D vehicle data for the part number included in the BOM data and activate the related parts. The 3D vehicle appearance output circuit 240 may export the activated parts in the 3D vehicle data as 3D vehicle content data.

[0084] For smooth mapping of the combined data, the combined data generation circuit 220 may sort the part numbers included in the 3D vehicle data to be consistent with the simplified depth levels of the corresponding nodes.

[0085] For example, the combined data generation circuit 220 may use quick sort as a sorting method. The combined data mapping circuit 230 may search for each part number by performing a binary search in the 3D vehicle data sorted by quick sort.

[0086] Figure 5is a diagram showing an example in which a content providing apparatus performs quick sorting according to an embodiment.

[0087] Figure 5 Visualize the sequence of steps in the quick sort algorithm. Quick sort is an efficient algorithm that uses a divide-and-conquer strategy to sort an array.

[0088] The content providing apparatus may perform quick sorting on part numbers of corresponding nodes included in the 3D vehicle data.

[0089] The content providing device may select the reference. The content providing device may randomly select the reference among the nodes, or the content providing device may select the last part number as the reference, such as Figure 5 shown.

[0090] The content providing device may divide the part number into two parts based on the reference. The content providing device may arrange the part numbers smaller than the reference on one side and the part numbers larger than the reference on the other side. Figure 5 , the reference part number is 4, and part numbers less than 4 are arranged on the left and part numbers greater than 4 are arranged on the right.

[0091] The content providing device may recursively reorder the part numbers in the two divided parts in the same manner. Figure 5 This process is shown to be repeated in multiple steps. On each side, a reference is selected, a split is made, and a quick sort is performed on the split parts.

[0092] When the number of nodes included in each side becomes 1 or less, the content providing device may end the sorting in the relevant side.

[0093] Figure 6 is a diagram showing an example in which a content providing device according to an embodiment performs a binary search.

[0094] The content providing device may search the 3D vehicle data sorted by quick sort for the part number included in the combined data and activate the related parts. In one embodiment, the content providing device may search for the part number by binary search.

[0095] Figure 6 A binary search tree is shown. The part numbers of the 3D vehicle data that have been sorted by quick sort can be arranged in a data structure similar to a binary search tree.

[0096] In the binary search tree structure, each node may have a part number, wherein the node is a node in the binary search tree structure and may be different from the node mentioned in the 3D vehicle data. In one side (left side) subtree, a part number less than the parent node part number may be placed, and in the other side (right side) subtree, a part number greater than the parent node part number may be placed. In an embodiment, both the one side subtree and the other side subtree may satisfy the condition of the binary search tree.

[0097] The content provider can obtain the content from the root node ( Figure 6 8) in the content providing device. If the part number to be searched is the same as the value of the current node, the search may end at the value of the current node. If the value to be searched is less than the value of the current node, the content providing device may move to the root node of the subtree on one side, and if the value to be searched is greater than the value of the current node, the content providing device may move to the root node of the subtree on the other side, and repeat the above process.

[0098] This binary search will have an average time complexity of O(log n).

[0099] In one embodiment, the 3D vehicle content data may be assetized and stored by an option, and the derived 3D vehicle content data derived from the basic 3D vehicle content data may be linked to the basic 3D vehicle content data as a branch.

[0100] Figure 7 2 is a diagram showing assetization and storage of 3D vehicle content data according to an embodiment.

[0101] refer to Figure 7 , the 3D vehicle content data can be assetized and stored through the option, and the derived 3D vehicle content data derived from the basic 3D vehicle content data can be linked to the basic 3D vehicle content data as a branch. When the basic 3D vehicle content data is modified, the data linked to the basic 3D vehicle content data can be updated together.

[0102] The quadrilateral labeled "Base" on the left side of the figure indicates basic 3D vehicle content data. The basic 3D vehicle data can be a reference point for other derived data.

[0103] The plurality of 3D blocks branching from the basic 3D vehicle content data indicates derived 3D vehicle content data. The derived 3D vehicle content data may be data reflecting specific changes, modifications, additional items based on the basic 3D vehicle content data.

[0104] In the diagram, the lines represent that the derived 3D vehicle content data is directly linked to the base 3D vehicle content data. This structure allows a clear understanding of what changes have occurred in a specific version of the data and how these changes are connected to the base data.

[0105] The year numbers (2021, 2022, 2023) above the graph indicate when each 3D vehicle content data was generated or modified. This allows understanding of the history of how 3D vehicle content data has changed and developed over time.

[0106] 3D vehicle content data can be generated in the movie box (FBX) data format. The size of the FBX format data will be relatively large.

[0107] The content providing device may convert the FBX format data into Universal Scene Description (USD) format data.

[0108] USD is a 3D scene graph and data format developed by Pixar Animation Studios. This format is designed for the purpose of efficiently describing large-scale complex 3D scenes and exchanging scene data between multiple programs and platforms.

[0109] When converting FBX format data to USD format data, the data size can be reduced by about 60%.

[0110] Since the FBX format data includes all objects in mesh form, and the USD format data is vector-based data forming 3D graphics, the size of the USD format data will be relatively small.

[0111] Figure 8 is a flowchart of a method for a device to provide 3D vehicle contents according to an embodiment.

[0112] refer to Figure 8 , in operation S800, the apparatus may import 3D vehicle data.

[0113] In operation S802, the device may simplify the depth of each node included in the 3D vehicle data to a predetermined degree. For example, the device may simplify the depth of each node in the 3D vehicle data into two levels.

[0114] Then, the device may sort the part numbers included in the 3D vehicle data according to the simplified depth level of each node. For example, the device may sort the part numbers included in the 3D vehicle data by quick sorting.

[0115] The device may acquire BOM data according to the options of the vehicle to be displayed. In operation S804, the device may generate combined data using the BOM data and the colored component data.
