Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a battery cell assembly. This application claims the benefit of priority based on Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0076999, filed on Jun. 15, 2023, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background Art
[0002] Unlike primary batteries, secondary batteries can be charged and discharged many times. Secondary batteries have been widely used as energy sources for various types of wireless devices (such as mobile phones, laptops, and cordless vacuum cleaners). Recently, as the manufacturing cost per unit capacity of secondary batteries has dropped sharply due to the improvement of energy density and economies of scale, and the mileage of electric vehicles (BEVs) has increased to the same level as that of fuel vehicles, the main use of secondary batteries is shifting from mobile devices to mobility.
[0003] Battery cell manufacturers are making huge capital expenditures to meet the rapidly growing demand for secondary batteries for mobility. Companies are increasing the productivity of each production line to maximize the return on invested capital, and to this end, various research is being continuously carried out to increase output and productivity. [0067] For example, each of the plurality of second sensing plates 125RC may be welded to a negative electrode lead 121N of a corresponding one of the odd-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_1, 121_3, 121_5, 121_7, 121_9, 121_11, 121_13, 121_15, 121_17, and 121_19 and a positive electrode lead 121P of a corresponding one of the even-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_2, 121_4, 121_6, 121_8, 121_10, 121_12, 121_14, 121_16, 121_18, and 121_20 by ultrasonic welding or the like. Therefore, the voltage of the negative lead 121N of each of the odd-numbered soft pack type battery cells 121_1, 121_3, 121_5, 121_7, 121_9, 121_11, 121_13, 121_15, 121_17 and 121_19 and the voltage of the positive lead 121P of each of the even-numbered soft pack type battery cells 121_2, 121_4, 121_6, 121_8, 121_10, 121_12, 121_14, 121_16, 121_18 and 121_20 may be output through the second integrated circuit 125R.
[0068] Figure 3 It is shown that each of the plurality of second sensing plates 125RC is inserted between the second bus bar frame 124R and the negative electrode lead 121N of a corresponding one of the odd-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_1, 121_3, 121_5, 121_7, 121_9, 121_11, 121_13, 121_15, 121_17 and 121_19 and the positive electrode lead 121P of a corresponding one of the even-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_2, 121_4, 121_6, 121_8, 121_10, 121_12, 121_14, 121_16, 121_18 and 121_20, but the embodiment is not limited thereto.
[0069] Each of the plurality of second sensing plates 125RC may be spaced apart from the second bus bar frame 124R, and a negative electrode lead 121N of a corresponding one of the odd-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_1, 121_3, 121_5, 121_7, 121_9, 121_11, 121_13, 121_15, 121_17, and 121_19 and a positive electrode lead 121P of a corresponding one of the even-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_2, 121_4, 121_6, 121_8, 121_10, 121_12, 121_14, 121_16, 121_18, and 121_20 may be located between each of the plurality of second sensing plates 125RC and the second bus bar frame 124R.
[0070] The lead cover assembly 127F may include a lead cover frame 127FF, a third integrated circuit 127FIC, and an integrated circuit cover 127FC. The lead cover frame 127FF may be coupled to the first bus bar frame 124F. For example, the lead cover frame 127FF may be fixed to the first bus bar frame 124F by heat fusion or interference fit. The lead cover frame 127FF may cover the positive lead 121P of each of the odd-numbered pouch type battery cells 121_1, 121_3, 121_5, 121_7, 121_9, 121_11, 121_13, 121_15, 121_17, and 121_19 and the negative lead 121N of each of the even-numbered pouch type battery cells 121_2, 121_4, 121_6, 121_8, 121_10, 121_12, 121_14, 121_16, 121_18, and 121_20.
[0071] The third integrated circuit 127FIC may be mounted on the lead cover frame 127FF. The lead cover frame 127FF may include a third groove for accommodating the third integrated circuit 127FIC. For example, the third integrated circuit 127FIC may be fixed to the lead cover frame 127FF by heat fusion or the like.
[0072] The integrated circuit cover 127FC may be coupled to the lead cover frame 127FF. The integrated circuit cover 127FC may cover the third integrated circuit 127FIC. [0073] According to the example embodiment, since the third integrated circuit 127FIC is mounted on the lead cap assembly 127F, it is possible to prevent the third integrated circuit 127FIC from being damaged when welding the positive lead 121P, the negative lead 121N, the first sensing plate 125FC, and the second sensing plate 125RC of each of the plurality of battery cells 121_1 to 121_20. In addition, even when the third integrated circuit 127FIC fails, only one of the third integrated circuit 127FIC and the lead cap assembly 127F can be replaced, thus preventing the entire battery cell assembly 120 from being discarded. Therefore, the productivity and yield of the secondary battery can be improved.

[0075] Monitoring of the plurality of soft pack type battery cells 121_1 to 121_20 may include measuring voltage and current of a portion of internal nodes in the battery cell stack CS and measuring temperature of a preset position in the battery cell stack CS. The third integrated circuit 127FIC may include a temperature sensor or be electrically connected to a temperature sensor adjacent to the battery cell stack CS.
[0076] The balancing of the plurality of soft-pack type battery cells 121_1 to 121_20 is a work of reducing the deviation between the plurality of soft-pack type battery cells 121_1 to 121_20. By monitoring and balancing the plurality of soft-pack type battery cells 121_1 to 121_20, the battery cell stack CS can be operated under optimal conditions, thereby preventing the service life of each of the plurality of soft-pack type battery cells 121_1 to 121_20 from being shortened.

The lead cover 127R may cover the negative electrode lead 121N of each of the odd-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_1, 121_3, 121_5, 121_7, 121_9, 121_11, 121_13, 121_15, 121_17, and 121_19 and the positive electrode lead 121P of each of the even-numbered soft-pack type battery cells 121_2, 121_4, 121_6, 121_8, 121_10, 121_12, 121_14, 121_16, 121_18, and 121_20. The lead cover 127R may include an insulating material.

The voltage sensed by the first integrated circuit 125F may be transmitted to the third integrated circuit 127FIC through the first connection cable 126F.
[0079] The second connection cable 126R may connect the second integrated circuit 125R and the third integrated circuit 127FIC. The second connection cable 126R may be connected to each of the second integrated circuit 125R and the third integrated circuit 127FIC. The second connection cable 126R may be directly connected to each of the second integrated circuit 125R and the third integrated circuit 127FIC.
