Technical Field
[0001] Embodiments of this disclosure relate to a tripping device and a circuit breaker including the tripping device. Background Technology
[0002] Circuit breakers are common electrical devices used to automatically disconnect a circuit when an excessive or abnormal current flows through it (e.g., overload or short circuit), protecting equipment and people. A circuit breaker includes an operating mechanism and a tripping device. The operating mechanism consists of a stationary contact and a moving contact connected to terminals, forming a normally closed contact. When an excessive current flows through the circuit, the tripping device actuates the operating mechanism to disconnect the moving contact from the stationary contact.
[0003] A tripping device is desired that is easy to install, has a short tripping response time, and / or has a low and adjustable tripping threshold. Summary of the Invention
[0004] At least one embodiment of this disclosure provides a tripping device for a circuit breaker, comprising: a support; a stationary magnetic yoke having a conductor receiving recess; a conductor extending through the conductor receiving recess; a moving armature configured to be attracted by the stationary magnetic yoke to move from a non-tripping position to a tripping position when a current exceeding a predetermined threshold passes through the conductor; a pull rod fixed to the moving armature; and a tripping lever having an actuating portion cooperating with the pull rod. In the non-tripping position, the actuating portion is separated from the pull rod. When the moving armature moves from the non-tripping position to the tripping position in the longitudinal direction, the pull rod moves through a travel and actuates the actuating portion of the tripping lever, causing the actuating portion to move to disconnect the circuit breaker.
[0005] In some embodiments, the tripping device further includes a bracket, which is independent of the circuit breaker body. The moving armature, pull rod, and tripping lever are mounted to the bracket so that they can be mounted to the circuit breaker body via the bracket.

[0015] In some embodiments, one end of the pull rod body is provided with at least two elastic arms, and a second lateral portion and a third lateral portion are fixed to the pull rod body by a snap-fit engagement. The release device also includes a wedge configured to insert between the at least two elastic arms to secure the snap-fit engagement.
[0016] In some embodiments, the moving armature is fixed to the pull rod by screws. The screws pass sequentially through the third transverse portion and the second transverse portion and are threaded into one end of the pull rod body.
[0017] In some embodiments, the second lateral portion has a pair of first guide outer surfaces that are opposite to each other in the lateral direction, and the bracket has a pair of first guide inner surfaces that face the pair of first guide outer surfaces respectively.
[0018] In some embodiments, the third lateral portion protrudes from the second lateral portion in a front-back direction perpendicular to both the longitudinal and lateral directions to have a protruding portion having a pair of second guide outer surfaces that are opposite to each other in the lateral direction, and the bracket having a pair of second guide inner surfaces that face the pair of second guide outer surfaces respectively.
[0019] In some embodiments, the pull rod body has a guide portion that slidably engages with a guide hole in the bracket to define the movement of the pull rod in the longitudinal direction in the lateral and longitudinal directions.
[0020] At least one embodiment of this disclosure also provides a circuit breaker comprising: a tripping device as described above. Attached Figure Description

[0037] Figure 1A-Figure 2B A schematic diagram of a tripping device 1 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is shown, wherein... Figure 1A and Figure 1B The moving armature 14 is in the non-disengaged position. Figure 2A and Figure 2B The moving armature 14 is in the disengaged position.
[0038] like Figure 1A-Figure 2B As shown, the tripping device 1 includes a bracket 11, a first tripping assembly, a second tripping assembly, and a tripping rod 16. The first and second tripping assemblies can be identically configured and each includes a static yoke 13, a conductor 12, a moving armature 14, a pull rod 15, and an elastic element 17. The tripping device 1 may include any other number of tripping assemblies, such as one set, three sets, etc., and this disclosure is not limited thereto. The static yoke 13 is configured in a U-shape, having a conductor receiving recess through which the conductor 12 is positioned. The moving armature 14 is disposed on one side of the static yoke 13 in the longitudinal direction (i.e., the up-down direction in the figure), such that the conductor 12 is located between the bottom section of the U-shape of the static yoke 13 and the moving armature 14. When a current exceeding a predetermined threshold flows through the conductor 12, the conductor 12 magnetizes the static yoke 13 to attract the moving armature 14 from the non-tripping position to the tripping position. One end of the pull rod 15 is fixed to the moving armature 14, and the other end of the pull rod 15 engages with the actuating part 161 of the trip lever 16. The trip lever 16 is pivotally connected to the bracket 11 to actuate the circuit breaker's operating mechanism 3, causing the circuit breaker to open or close. Figure 1A and Figure 1B As shown, in the non-tripped position, the moving armature 14 is not attracted by the stationary yoke 13, thus maintaining a considerable distance from it, and the pull rod 15 is separated from the actuating part 161 by a distance. At this time, the circuit breaker is in the closed state. Figure 2A and Figure 2B As shown, when the moving armature 14 moves from the non-tripped position to the tripped position in the longitudinal direction, the pull rod 15 moves through a travel C and then contacts and actuates the actuating part 161 of the tripping lever 16, causing the actuating part 161 to pivot and disconnect the circuit breaker. Figure 1B and Figure 2B As shown, the trip lever 16 has two actuating portions 161, which respectively cooperate with the pull rods 15 of the two sets of tripping assemblies. Furthermore, the tripping assembly includes an elastic element 17, which abuts against the moving armature 14 to bias the moving armature 14 toward a non-tripping position. The tripping device 1 also includes a second elastic element 18, which is used to bias the trip lever 16 toward a position corresponding to the non-tripping position of the moving armature 14.
[0039] Because the moving armature 14 acts directly on the trip lever 16 via the pull rod 15, without passing through components such as a hammer, the response time of the tripping device 1 is short. Furthermore, typically, the stationary yoke 13 and the moving armature 14 of the tripping device 1 need to overcome the reaction force applied by the operating mechanism 3 via the trip lever 16, the biasing force of the second elastic element 18 used to bias the trip lever 16, and the biasing force of the elastic element 17 used to bias the moving armature 14 to attract each other, thereby switching the circuit breaker from the connected state to the disconnected state. In the embodiments of this disclosure, since the moving armature 14 needs to travel a distance C before contacting and actuating the actuating part 161 of the trip lever 16, in the initial stage of the moving armature 14's movement, it is only necessary to overcome the biasing force of the elastic element 17 to move the moving armature 14. In the initial stage of the moving armature 14's movement, the air gap between the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13 is large, and the attractive force is small. The idle distance C allows the moving armature 14 to be reliably and quickly attracted by the static yoke 13 during the initial stage of its movement. Later in the movement of the moving armature 14, as the air gap decreases and the resulting attraction increases, the moving armature 14 can be further attracted by the static yoke 13. Therefore, the idle distance C reduces the tripping threshold of the tripping device 1 and improves its response time.
[0040] Figure 3 and Figure 4 A perspective view and a front view of a tripping device 1 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure are shown, wherein the static magnetic yoke 13 and the conductor 12 are not shown. Figure 3 and Figure 4As shown, the bracket 11 of the tripping device 1 is independent of the circuit breaker body 2. The moving armature 14, pull rod 15, and tripping rod 16 of each tripping assembly are mounted to the bracket 11, allowing them to be installed onto the circuit breaker body 2 via the bracket 11. The static yoke 13 and conductor 12 are directly and fixedly mounted to the circuit breaker body 2. Therefore, most components of the tripping device 1, especially the movable components, can be modularly installed onto the circuit breaker body 2. The movable components of the tripping device 1 can be pre-assembled, simplifying the installation process from the tripping device 1 to the circuit breaker and reducing installation time and costs. However, this disclosure is not limited to this; the bracket 11 independent of the circuit breaker body 2 may not be provided, and the various movable components of the tripping device 1 can be directly installed onto the circuit breaker body 2.
[0041] As described above, in the initial position of the moving armature 14, the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13 only need to overcome the bias force of the elastic element 17 to attract each other. Therefore, the tripping threshold can be easily adjusted by adjusting the bias force of the elastic element 17, thereby ensuring that the tripping current meets the magnetic adjustment window and improving the product qualification rate on the mass production line.
[0042] like Figure 3 As shown, the pull rod 15 includes a pull rod body 151 extending in the longitudinal direction with a movable armature 14 fixed to one end, and a pull rod mating part 152 fixed to the other end of the pull rod body 151. In an embodiment not shown, the elastic element 17 can be a compression spring, with one end abutting against the pull rod mating part 152 and the other end abutting against the bracket 11, to bias the movable armature 14 toward the non-disengaged position. The biasing force of the elastic element 17 can be adjusted by adjusting parameters such as the length and stiffness of the coil spring. However, the biasing force of the coil spring is difficult to adjust and requires a large installation space.
[0043] Figure 5 It shows Figure 3 A perspective view of the elastic element 17 of the tripping device 1 shown. Figures 3-5As shown, the elastic element 17 is a double torsion spring, having a helical first torsion spring body 171, a first leg 173 connected to the first torsion spring body 171, a helical second torsion spring body 172, a second leg 174 connected to the second torsion spring body 172, and a common crossbeam 175 connecting the first torsion spring body 171 and the second torsion spring body 172. The bracket 11 has a bracket body and an elastic element mounting portion 111 protruding from the bracket body. This elastic element mounting portion 111 is positioned on the side of the pull rod 15 away from the release lever 16 in a front-rear direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. A columnar portion 112 is fixed in a through hole extending in the elastic element mounting portion 111 in a transverse direction (left-right direction) perpendicular to both the longitudinal and front-rear directions. This columnar portion 112 is a cylindrical component extending in the transverse direction, with its two ends protruding from both sides of the through hole of the elastic element mounting portion 111 in the transverse direction. The double torsion springs are mounted on the columnar portion 112 such that the first torsion spring body 171 is fitted onto the first end of the columnar portion 112, and the second torsion spring body 172 is fitted onto the second end of the columnar portion 112. Therefore, since the elastic element 17 is mounted on one side of the pull rod 15, rather than between the pull rod 15 and the bracket body, the space on the bracket 11 can be fully utilized without increasing the longitudinal dimension of the tripping device 1.
[0044] Multiple support grooves 113 are provided on the surface of the elastic element mounting block 111 at the end away from the main body of the bracket 11. These multiple support grooves 113 are arranged at intervals in the front-back direction. The first leg 173 and the second leg 174 of the elastic element 17 abut against the two bottom surfaces of the pull rod mating part 152 facing the bracket 11, respectively. The common crossbeam 175 of the elastic element 17 can be selectively hung in one of the multiple support grooves 113 of the bracket 11, thereby adjusting the biasing force of the elastic element 17. Therefore, the biasing force of the elastic element 17 can be easily adjusted. This is beneficial to improving the product qualification rate on the mass production line and also to the adaptability adjustment of the tripping device 1 in subsequent use.
[0045] Figure 6 and Figure 7 They are shown respectively Figure 3 The diagram shows a side view and a front sectional view of the tripping device 1, including the pull rod 15, moving armature 14, stationary yoke 13, and conductor 12. Figure 6 and Figure 7 As shown, the pull rod 15 includes a pull rod body 151 and a pull rod mating part 152. The pull rod mating part 152 includes a frame with a hollow portion. (Return to reference) Figure 3 and Figure 4The actuating part 161 of the trip lever 16 passes through the hollow portion. In the non-tripped position, the actuating part 161 is separated from the mating section 153 of the frame away from the pull rod body 151. When the moving armature 14 moves from the non-tripped position to the tripped position, the pull rod 15 moves through a travel C and then pushes the actuating part 161 of the trip lever 16 downward through the mating section 153, causing the actuating part 161 to move and disconnect the circuit breaker.
[0046] like Figure 6 and Figure 7 As shown, conductor 12 is J-shaped, including parallel short arm portions, long arm portions, and a curved portion connecting the short arm portions and long arm portions. The long wall portion of conductor 12 extends through the conductor receiving portion of the static magnetic yoke 13. The static magnetic yoke 13 is concave, including a first transverse portion 131 extending in the transverse direction and a first longitudinal portion 132 and a second longitudinal portion 133 extending in the longitudinal direction from both ends of the first transverse portion 131 to form the conductor receiving recess. The moving armature 14 is convex, including a second transverse portion 141 and a third transverse portion 142 extending in the transverse direction. In the transverse direction, the width of the second transverse portion 141 is greater than the width of the conductor receiving recess, and the width of the third transverse portion 142 is smaller than the width of the conductor receiving recess, such that in the tripped position, the third transverse portion 142 can be inserted into the conductor receiving recess, and the second transverse portion 141 can be stopped by the first longitudinal portion 132 and the second longitudinal portion 133. The width of the second transverse portion 141 is preferably equal to the overall width of the static magnetic yoke 13. By cooperating with the convex and concave moving armature 14 and the stationary magnetic yoke 13 respectively, the magnetic attraction force is improved and optimized throughout the entire movement of the moving armature 14.
[0047] exist Figure 6 and Figure 7 In the middle, the second transverse portion 141 and the third transverse portion 142 of the moving armature 14 are directly stacked together, that is, in contact with each other. Figure 8 and Figure 9 Side and front sectional views of the lever 15, moving armature 14, stationary yoke 13 and conductor 12 of the tripping device 1 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure are shown respectively. Figure 8 and Figure 9 Part of the tripping device 1 shown is with Figure 6 and Figure 7 The only difference in the tripping device 1 shown is that, Figure 8 and Figure 9In the tripping device 1 shown, an insulating portion 145 is inserted between the second transverse portion 141 and the third transverse portion 142 of the moving armature 14. This insulating portion 145 brings the third transverse portion 142 closer to the conductor 12 without increasing the material volume of the moving armature 14, thus enhancing the magnetic attraction. The insulating portion 145 can be made of plastic. In one embodiment, in the tripped position, the air gap in the transverse direction between the third transverse portion 142 of the moving armature 14 and the first longitudinal portion 132 and the second longitudinal portion 133 of the stationary yoke 13 is in the range of 0.1-1 mm. When the air gap is too large, the attraction between the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13 is too weak. When the air gap is too small, it may easily cause the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13 to directly attract each other, i.e., reduce the air gap between the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13 to 0, which is detrimental to the reliable movement of the moving armature 14 between predetermined positions in the longitudinal direction and the separation between the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13.
[0048] In the prior art, the moving armature 14 is often machined as a single piece. In the embodiments of this disclosure, the second transverse portion 141 and the third transverse portion 142 of the moving armature 14 can be formed by stamping separately, which avoids machining and thus reduces costs. Figure 10 A front sectional view of a portion of a tripping device 1 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. Figure 10 As shown, screw 155 passes through the second transverse portion 141 and the third transverse portion 142 in sequence and is threaded to one end of the pull rod body 151 to fix the moving armature 14 to the pull rod 15. Figure 11 A side sectional view of a tripping device 1 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. Figure 11 As shown, at least two elastic arms 154 are provided at one end of the pull rod body 151. The second lateral portion 141 and the third lateral portion 142 are fixed to the pull rod body 151 by a snap-fit engagement. Furthermore, a wedge-shaped member 144 is provided, configured to be inserted between the at least two elastic arms 154 to secure the snap-fit engagement. Specifically, the end of the elastic arm 154 connected to the pull rod body 151 is provided with a shoulder 156, and the other free end of the elastic arm 154 is provided with a hook 157. The second lateral portion 141 and the third lateral portion 142 are mounted around the plurality of elastic arms 154 and sandwiched between the shoulder 156 and the hook 157 by offset of the elastic arm 154 towards the central longitudinal axis of the pull rod body 151. Then, by inserting the wedge 144 between at least two elastic arms 154 to prevent the elastic arms 154 from shifting toward the central longitudinal axis of the pull rod body 151, the second lateral portion 141 and the third lateral portion 142 are securely fixed together to the pull rod body 151. The number of elastic arms 154 may be two, three, four or more, and this disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0049] Figure 12 and Figure 13 The following are shown respectively along Figure 11 Cross-sectional view of the tripping device 1, taken from the center line AA and line BB. (See diagram below.) Figure 12 As shown, the pull rod body 151 has a guide portion 1511, and the bracket 11 has a guide hole that matches the shape of the guide portion 1511. The guide portion 1511 of the pull rod 15 slides with the guide hole of the bracket 11 to limit the movement of the pull rod 15 in the longitudinal direction in the lateral and front-back directions. The cross-section of the guide portion 1511 and the guide hole can be rectangular, square, circular, etc.
[0050] like Figure 13 As shown, the second transverse portion 141 has a pair of first guide outer surfaces 1411 that are opposite to each other in the transverse direction. The bracket 11 has a pair of first guide inner surfaces that face the pair of first guide outer surfaces to guide the movement of the pull rod 15 in the longitudinal direction in the transverse direction. Furthermore, the third transverse portion 142 protrudes from the second transverse portion 141 in the front-rear direction to have a protrusion having a pair of second guide outer surfaces 1421 that are opposite to each other in the transverse direction. The bracket 11 has a pair of second guide inner surfaces that face the pair of second guide outer surfaces to guide the movement of the pull rod 15 in the longitudinal direction in the transverse direction. By providing multiple inner and outer guide surfaces that face each other in the transverse direction, the pull rod 15 and the moving armature 14 are less likely to deflect in the transverse direction, allowing the air gap between the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13 in the transverse direction to be set very small, without causing the moving armature 14 and the stationary yoke 13 to come into contact with each other. Since both the second transverse portion 141 and the third transverse portion 142 are guided in the transverse direction, it can be ensured that the two independent components connected to each other can move in the longitudinal direction without deflection.
[0051] Figure 14 A circuit breaker including a tripping device 1 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure is shown. For example... Figure 14 As shown, the circuit breaker may include a circuit breaker body 2 and a tripping device 1 and an operating mechanism 3 mounted on the circuit breaker body 2 according to embodiments of the present disclosure. The tripping device 1 actuates the operating mechanism 3 via a tripping lever 16 to open or close the circuit breaker.
