Energy-saving operation method of a pem electrolyzer

Abstract

This invention relates to the field of PEM electrolysis for hydrogen production technology, and discloses an energy-saving operation method for PEM electrolyzers. It solves the technical problem of hydrogen flow and pressure fluctuations caused by the need for shutdown due to reversible voltage rises during online hydrogen production in existing PEM electrolyzers. This method involves specific wiring configuration of the electrolyzer, followed by gradient constant current activation. Then, through relay-programmed control, individual electrolyzers are periodically and sequentially short-circuited to release charge, while a constant current power supply maintains a constant overall current, ensuring a consistent number of electrolyzers operating simultaneously. This invention effectively eliminates reversible voltage rises caused by charge accumulation at the anode and cathode without requiring shutdown, reducing the electrolyzer's operating voltage and energy consumption, while ensuring stable hydrogen flow and pressure, thus improving the electrolyzer's operational stability. It is applicable to various online hydrogen production PEM electrolyzer systems.
