[0048] Referring generally to the accompanying drawings, a plurality of different embodiments of an adjustable sleeve storage system are shown. The various embodiments of the sleeve storage system discussed herein allow one or more storage rails to be selectively connected to each other in a modular storage system (e.g., a tool storage unit). The storage rails include a plurality of connectors (shown as dovetail attachments on both sides and / or both ends of the storage rails). When connected by dovetail attachments, the storage rails can be more easily carried (e.g., becoming like a carrying tray rather than a separate rail). In addition, connecting a plurality of different storage rails provides increased stability for the sleeve storage device. For example, when a plurality of different storage rails are connected and placed in a drawer (e.g., in a toolbox, trolley, box, etc.), if the drawer is slammed shut by a user, the connected rails help prevent the storage rails from falling or tipping over due to a lower center of gravity.
[0049] In addition, the applicant believes that the storage system provides a more reliable attachment to the sleeve holder (shown as a clip). The storage rail includes a plurality of discrete slots or positions to position the sleeve holder therein so that the sleeve holder does not slide around and move over time (e.g., when the rail is carried or stored in a drawer, etc.). In addition, a plurality of different discrete positions for the sleeve holder to attach allow for additional customization of the sleeve storage system. For example, a large sleeve that may require more space relative to a smaller sleeve can be attached to a farther slot, while a smaller sleeve can also be positioned in a closer slot to maximize storage space.
[0050] In various embodiments, the cartridge storage system includes a magnetic cartridge storage rail having magnets in the cartridge holder to better retain the cartridges in the cartridge holder and the cartridge storage rail. A plurality of cartridge posts of different lengths can be selectively coupled to the cartridge holder to further secure the cartridges in the cartridge rail.
[0051] refer to Figures 1 to 3 , showing various aspects of a system for holding and / or storing sleeves, shown as a sleeve storage system 10. The sleeve storage system 10 includes a storage device, shown as a sleeve guide 12, and a plurality of different sleeve retainers, shown as sleeve retaining clips 14, 16. The sleeve guide 12 includes an upper body portion 18, a lower body portion 22, a rod shown as a locking rod 20, and a sliding lock 48. The upper body portion 18 is releasably coupled to the lower body portion 22. The locking rod 20 is located between the upper body portion 18 and the lower body portion 22 and extends along the long axis or longitudinal axis 45 of the sleeve guide 12, with the upper body portion 18 being at the top and the lower body portion 22 being at the bottom (in a manner of Figure 1 and Figure 3 In the illustrated orientation). In a particular embodiment, the sleeve guide 12 includes a pair of sliding locks 48. The sliding locks 48 are coupled to one end of the locking rod 20.
[0052] The upper body portion 18 includes opposite longitudinal outer walls 26 extending generally parallel to the major axis 45 of the sleeve guide 12, and opposite end walls 28 extending parallel to the minor axis or transverse axis 47. In other words, the opposite end walls 28 extend between and connect the opposite longitudinal outer walls 26. In another embodiment, the longitudinal outer walls 26 and the end walls 28 can be angled relative to the major axis 45 and the minor axis 47, respectively. The upper body portion 18 includes a plurality of protrusions or extensions (shown as dovetail attachments 24, 38). The extensions or dovetail attachments 24, 28 extend outwardly from the outer walls 26, 28 of the upper body portion 18.
[0053] In a particular embodiment, the dovetail attachment 24 is positioned along at least one longitudinal outer wall 26, and the dovetail attachment 38 is positioned along at least one end wall 28 (i.e., along the outer wall of the upper body portion 18). In such an embodiment, the end wall 28 opposite the end wall 28 including the dovetail attachment 38 includes an end recess 40 that is sized and configured to receive the dovetail attachment 38 of another sleeve rail 12. In a particular embodiment, the dovetail attachment 24 has a different size and / or dimension than the dovetail attachment 38. In another embodiment, the dovetail attachment 24 can have the same size and / or dimension as the dovetail attachment 38.
[0054] Each dovetail attachment 24 includes a pair of angled side walls 27 extending at an angle from the outer wall 26. The dovetail attachment outermost wall 25 extends between and connects the pair of angled side walls 27. The dovetail attachment outermost wall 25 is generally parallel to the outer wall 26 of the sleeve guide 12. In a specific embodiment, the angle A between the angled side walls 27 and the outer wall 26 is between 45° and 65°, and more specifically between 50° and 60°. In a specific embodiment, A is about 55° (e.g., 55°±2°). In other embodiments, the angle A is measured relative to the longitudinal axis 45 of the sleeve guide 12 (e.g., in embodiments where the outer wall 26 is non-planar).
[0055] Each dovetail attachment 38 includes a pair of angled side walls 46 extending at an angle from the end wall 28. The attachment outer wall 44 extends between and connects the pair of angled side walls 46. The attachment outer wall 44 is generally parallel to the end wall 28 of the sleeve guide 12. In a specific embodiment, the angle B between the angled side walls 46 and the end wall 28 is between 45° and 65°, and more specifically between 50° and 60°. In a specific embodiment, the angle B is about 55° (e.g., 55°±2°). In other embodiments, the angle B is measured relative to the minor axis 47 of the sleeve guide 12 (e.g., in an embodiment where the end wall 28 is non-planar). In a specific embodiment, the angle B is the same as the angle A. In another embodiment, the angle B is different from the angle A.
[0056] The sleeve guide 12, specifically the upper body portion 18, includes a plurality of pairs of attachment extensions 36. Each pair of attachment extensions 36 together at least partially defines an attachment recess 34. The pair of attachment extensions 36 includes a left attachment extension 36 having an angled surface 30 facing inward (i.e., partially facing the outer wall 26 and / or the longitudinal axis 45), and the opposite right attachment extension 36 includes an angled surface 30 facing inward (i.e., partially facing the outer wall 26 and / or the longitudinal axis 45). The recessed wall portion 32 extends between and connects the pair of attachment extensions 36, and specifically is located between and connects the angled surfaces 30. The recessed wall portion 32 extends parallel to the long axis 45 and the outer wall 26 of the sleeve guide 12.
[0057] As previously discussed, the plurality of dovetail attachments 24 and attachment recesses 34 are configured to receive and engage the dovetail attachments 24 and attachment recesses of another sleeve rail 12 so that the sleeve rails 12 can be selectively or removably coupled together. In a particular embodiment, the dovetail attachments 24 and attachment recesses 34 allow for selective coupling to the sleeve rails 12 or a tray (e.g., see 800, 900) for storage. The sleeve rails 12 can be coupled together along the longitudinal outer wall 26 and / or the end wall 28.
[0058] In a particular embodiment, a sleeve rail 12 is coupled to another sleeve rail 12 along the end wall 28 such that the longitudinal axis 45 of the first sleeve rail 12 is co-linear with the longitudinal axis 12 of the second sleeve rail 12 (see, for example, Fig.30 In a specific embodiment, the sleeve guide 12 is coupled to another sleeve guide 12 along the longitudinal outer wall 26 so that the longitudinal axis of the first sleeve guide 12 is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the second sleeve guide 12 (see, for example, Fig.29 ).
[0059] The upper body portion 18 further includes a plurality of walls 21. The walls 21 of the upper body portion 18 are oriented transversely (ie, transversely and / or perpendicularly) to the major axis 45. In a particular embodiment, the plurality of walls 21 are oriented generally parallel to the minor axis 47 of the sleeve guide 12. Figure 2 As shown, the lower body portion 22 includes a plurality of walls 42 extending in an orientation transverse to the major axis 45. In a particular embodiment, the plurality of walls 42 are generally parallel to the minor axis 47. The lower body portion 22 includes a corresponding wall 42 for each wall 21 of the upper body portion 18, wherein the wall 42 is positioned below the wall 21 (in the form of a vertical axis). Figures 1 to 3 A plurality of openings or slots 23 are located between adjacent walls 21 and corresponding adjacent walls 42.
[0060] In other words, the plurality of walls 21, 42 define a plurality of slots 23 between adjacent walls 21, 24. Each slot 23 is configured to receive a portion of the sleeve retaining clip 14, 16. Specifically, the size and / or shape of each slot 23 is designed to receive a portion of the sleeve retaining clip 14, 16. When the sleeve retaining clip 14, 16 is located in one of the plurality of slots 23, the sleeve retaining clip 14, 16 extends around and engages with the locking rod 20 to couple the sleeve retaining clip 14, 16 to the sleeve guide 12. The sleeve retaining clip 14, 16 is coupled to the sleeve guide 12 via the locking rod 20.
[0061] refer to Figure 2 , the lower body portion 22 includes opposite longitudinal side walls 43 extending transverse to the minor axis 47 and an end wall 39 extending transverse to the major axis 45. In a particular embodiment, the longitudinal side walls 43 extend parallel to the major axis 45 of the sleeve guide 12, and the end wall 39 extends parallel to the minor axis 47. The end wall 39 of the lower body portion 22 at least partially faces outward and is located in the end recess 40. The sleeve guide 12 includes a plurality of gaps or spaces 41, which are located behind the attachment extension 36 (in the form of Figure 2 oriented as shown) and in front of at least one longitudinal side wall 43 of the lower body portion 22. Figure 3, the extended central portion 50 of the upper body portion 18 extends from the major axis 45 a distance greater than the distance between the major axis 45 and the outer wall 26. In a particular embodiment, the extended central portion 50 is positioned between the dovetail attachments 24 on one outer wall 26 and between the opposing pairs of attachment extensions 36 on the opposing outer wall 26.
[0062] refer to Figures 4 to 6 , showing a detailed perspective view of the right and left ends of the sleeve guide 12. The end wall 28 is connected to the opposite outer wall 26 by a pair of inclined edges 52. The sliding lock 48 is slidably engaged with the upper body portion 18 (i.e., movable along the transverse axis 47) and is positioned in the locking recess 53. The locking recess 53 is partially defined by a pair of opposing surfaces 55, 57. The sliding lock 48 includes opposite ramp portions 62 on both sides of a plurality of ridges or grips 58 and a gripping recess 60. The gripping recess 60 is located on both sides of the ridge 58. The sliding lock 48 can be moved in the direction of either outer wall 26, as shown by arrows 54. The locking recess 53 further includes an indicator (shown as an unlocked indicator 56) to indicate the current state of the sliding lock 48. When the unlocked indicator 56 is visible to the user, the sliding lock 48 is in the open or unlocked position.
[0063] Figure 4 The slide lock 48 is shown in a first unlocked position, and Figure 5 The slide lock 48 is shown in a second locked position. The locking recess 53 includes another indicator (shown as a closed lock indicator 64). The open lock indicator 56 and the closed lock indicator 64 can be applied by stickers or laser etching. As will be discussed in more detail below, when the slide lock 48 is in the locked position, the locking bar 20 is pushed into a position that prevents the sleeve retaining clips 14, 16 from being removed from the sleeve guide 12. When the slide lock 48 is in the unlocked position, the locking bar 20 is positioned between the legs of the sleeve retaining clips 14, 16 so that they can be removed from the sleeve guide 12.
[0064] refer to Figure 6 , showing a detailed perspective view of the right end of the sleeve guide 12. A portion of the end wall 39 of the lower body portion 22 faces outward and is positioned in the end recess 40. A corresponding recess wall 68 is parallel to the end wall 28 of the upper body portion 18 and the end wall 39 of the lower body portion 22. An opposing pair of angled walls 66 extend from the recess wall 68 and connect to the end wall 28.
[0065] refer to Figure 7 , shows a detailed perspective view of a slide lock 48 according to an exemplary embodiment. The slide lock 48 includes an upper portion 69 and a tab 70 that extends downwardly toward the body lower portion 22 of the sleeve guide 12. A slot 72 extends through the tab 70. The slot 72 is configured to receive a portion of the locking bar 20 (e.g., see Figure 8 and Fig.10 ). The upper portion 69 includes a lower surface 74 and a pair of side surfaces 80 at which the upper portion 69 is coupled to the tab 70. As the sliding lock 48 moves, the side surfaces 80 interface with the opposing surfaces 55, 57 of the locking recess 53. The lower surface 74 includes a plurality of recesses 76 having curved inner surfaces 78. In a particular embodiment, one recess 76 is located on the side of the tab 70 of the sliding lock 48 adjacent to the indicator 56 for the open lock, and two recesses 76 are located on the opposite side of the tab 70 adjacent to the indicator 64 for the closed lock.
[0066] like Figure 8 As shown, within the locking recess 53, the upper body portion 18 includes an opening 86 extending through the upper body portion 18. A pair of rods 84, 85 protrude from the edge 83 of the opening 86. The end of each rod 84, 85 away from the edge 83 includes a protrusion 82. In a specific embodiment, the rod 85 extends from the edge 83 adjacent to the indicator 64 of the closed lock and has a first length, while the rod 84 extends from the edge 83 adjacent to the indicator 56 of the open lock and has a second length. In such an embodiment, the first length is greater than the second length. In a specific embodiment, the plurality of recesses 76 and the protrusion 82 have a partially spherical shape. When the sliding lock 48 is in the unlocked position (e.g., see Figure 4 ), the rod 85 is located above the two recesses 76 adjacent to the closed lock indicator 64, so that the protrusion 82 is received in the recess 76 of the tab 70 closer to the sliding lock 48. When in this position, the opposing protrusions 82 and rod 84 abut against the lower surface 74 of the sliding lock 48, and not against the recesses 76. When the sliding lock 48 is in the locked position (see, for example, Figure 5 ), the slide lock 48 moves so that the protrusion 82 of the rod 85 is received in the recess 76 on the side farther from the lug 70 and in the only recess 76 on the other side of the lug 70 (i.e., the protrusion 82 of the rod 84 is located in the recess). When in this locked position, the two protrusions 82 abut against the curved inner surface 78 of the recess 76, thereby providing resistance to movement of the slide lock 48 and the locking rod 20.
[0067] refer to Figure 8 , shows an exploded view of the cartridge storage system 10 according to an exemplary embodiment. The locking bar 20 includes a first end 88 and a second end 90 opposite the first end 88. The first end 88 and the second end 90 are each received in the slot 72 of the sliding lock 48 (see, for example, Fig.10 When the slide lock 48 is in the operative state, the tab 70 extends through the opening 86 in the upper body portion 18 and the upper portion 69 is received within the locking recess 53 .
[0068] The lower body portion 22 includes a cavity 92 defined between the last wall 42 and the end wall 39. The end wall 39 further includes an upper extension 94 extending away from the end wall 39 toward the upper body portion 18. The upper extension 94 of the end wall 39 is positioned generally centrally between the longitudinal side walls 43 and provides a barrier to prevent the locking bar 20 from moving out of the sleeve guide 12. The lower body portion 22 further includes an extended central portion 96 extending from the major axis 45 a distance greater than the distance between the major axis 45 and the longitudinal side walls 43. The location of the extended central portion 96 corresponds to the location of the extended central portion 50 of the upper body portion 18. In a particular embodiment, the extended central portion 96 is positioned between side extensions 98 corresponding to the location of the dovetail attachment 24 of the upper body portion on one of the longitudinal side walls 43.
[0069] The lower body portion 22 includes a plurality of cylindrical recesses 100 configured to receive a plurality of cylindrical recesses extending downwardly from the upper body portion 18 (in the Figure 1 oriented) extending from a plurality of columns 112 (see, for example, Fig. 9 ). When the post 112 is received in the post recess 100, the upper body portion 18 is coupled to the lower body portion 22. The lower body portion 22 further includes an open-sided cavity 102 defined in part by the last wall 42 on the end of the lower body portion 22 opposite the cavity 92. When assembled into the sleeve rail 12, the open-sided cavity is surrounded by the end wall 28 of the upper body portion 18 and the dovetail attachment 38.
[0070] refer to Figures 8 to 9 The upper body portion 18 and the lower body portion 22 together surround the locking rod 20. The lower body portion 22, and in particular the plurality of walls 42, each include a cutout section 104. In a particular embodiment, the cutout section 104 has a generally rectangular shape. The cutout section 104 creates an area or space 106 extending across the lower body portion 22 between the open-sided cavity 102 and the cavity 92. Fig. 9 As shown, the wall 21 of the upper body portion 18 has a corresponding cutout section 108. In a particular embodiment, the cutout section 108 has a generally rectangular shape. The cutout section 108 creates an area or space 110 extending across the upper body portion 18 between the pair of openings 86.
[0071] refer to Fig.10, shows a perspective view of the cartridge storage system 10 according to an exemplary embodiment, wherein the upper body portion 18 of the cartridge guide 12 is removed.
