Description

[0001] Cross Reference to Related Applications

[0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Patent Application 18 / 441,880, filed February 14, 2024, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety, to the extent permitted. TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The present disclosure relates generally to building elements for assembling toys. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to improved connectors for coupling various building elements, such as blocks, to form figurines, vehicles, or other toys. Assembled toys are assembled by combining various building elements from a compatible set of toy building elements. BACKGROUND

[0004] Building block toys have been a staple in the toy boxes of generations of children. These toys not only provide hours of entertainment, but also play a vital role in the development of children. Building block toys help children develop a variety of skills, including fine motor skills, spatial awareness, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

[0005] As children play with building blocks, they use their hands and fingers to grasp, stack, and manipulate the blocks, which helps develop their fine motor skills. Additionally, building blocks provide children with opportunities to explore concepts such as balance, symmetry, and proportion, fostering spatial awareness and mathematical thinking. Furthermore, building block toys stimulate creativity and imagination as children construct their unique creations, and also cultivate problem-solving abilities as they figure out how to build structures that will not collapse.

[0006] Incorporating fleece and other soft fabrics into building blocks for children's development can have a positive impact on children's cognitive and sensory development. Fleece is a soft and tactile material that provides young children with a unique sensory experience. By incorporating fleece into building blocks and other similar toys, children can engage in sensory exploration and tactile play, enhancing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

[0007] Additionally, fleece can be a versatile building block material that allows children to practice creative thinking and problem-solving as they construct and manipulate the blocks. The soft nature of fleece also allows young children to handle and play with it safely, reducing the risk of injury compared to traditional hard building materials.

[0008] Toys assembled from various components can include connector pieces that removably couple the components together to form recognizable objects, such as animal figurines and vehicles. Known connector pieces can include portions adapted to engage with portions of the building components. It would be an improvement to known connector pieces to encompass decorative and / or tactile elements as part of the connector pieces. Utility Model Content

Accordingly, the scope of the disclosure is limited only by the accompanying claims and any modification thereof.

[0055] Referring to Figure 1 , one exemplary embodiment of a coupling element 10 (also referred to as a connector 10) according to the present disclosure is shown. In one embodiment, the connector 10 includes a decorative element 40 disposed between a first coupling 220a (also referred to as a first connector portion 220a) and a second coupling 220b (also referred to as a second connector portion 220b), as shown in Figure 2A The decorative element 40 can be made of any suitable material, such as plastic, wood, ceramic, cloth, or any combination thereof. According to one preferred embodiment, the decorative element 40 is formed of a soft fabric, such as felt.

[0056] As shown in Figure 1 , the connector 10 can be used to releasably connect two building elements 12. Alternatively, the connector 10 can connect the building elements 12 to other structures, as will be discussed below. According to one embodiment, the building elements 12 are shaped as rectangular prisms. The shape of the building elements 12 is not limited to rectangular prisms, but can be a flat rectangle, a flat triangle, a triangular prism, a pyramid, a sphere, or any other shape of a polyhedron, a non-polyhedron, or a polygon, and a curved surface, or any other suitable shape combination. The building elements 12 have one or more outer surfaces 13. According to one embodiment, a building element aperture 14 is centrally located on at least one outer surface 13, as shown in Figure 1 The building element aperture 14 need not be so (as also shown in Figure 1 ). The building elements 12 can be colored by silk screen printing, heat transfer printing, painting, engraving, or any other suitable coloring technique.

[0057] Referring now to Figure 3A and Figure 3B , the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b each have a body 223 and have a first end 223a and a second end 223b. At the first end 23a can be a coupling portion 24 (also referred to as a connector-to-building element protrusion 24) that allows the first connector portion 220a or the second connector portion 220b (as the case can be) to be connected to a building element 12. At the second end 223b is a connector internal structure 221 that allows each of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b to be connected to each other. Figure 3A andFigure 3B An example of a suitable inner structure of the connector 221 is shown.

[0058] The body 223 can optionally have a flange 22 thereon, the flange 22 having a first side 22a and a second side 22b. In embodiments in which the flange 22 is provided, the connector-to-building-element protrusion 24 can extend from the first side 22a of the flange 22, and the connector inner structure 221 can extend from the second side 22b of the flange 22.

Figure 2B The cross-sectional view is shown below.

[0066] In order to assemble Figures 1-3B The connector 10 shown has a first connector portion 220a and a second connector portion 220b pressed together such that the connector inner protrusion 28 and the spacer 29 on each of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b are pushed through the connector inner through hole 47 in the decorative element 40, such that the connector inner protrusion 28 is received in the connector inner hole 27 of each of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b.

[0067] In an alternative embodiment, at least one inner protrusion 28 of the connector may engage the outer peripheral surface 59 of the second connector portion 220b to connect the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b together, such as Figure 12 and Figure 13 As shown. Optionally, engagement between at least one inner protrusion 28 of the connector and the outer peripheral surface 59 can be achieved by press fitting. Alternatively, each of the at least one inner protrusion 28 of the connector may be resilient and may include a protrusion at its free end to engage a shoulder on the second connector portion 220b (e.g., which may be formed by the first side 22a of the flange 22).

[0068] In the illustrated embodiment, the first connector portion 220a includes four connector inner protrusions 28 at the second end 223b of the first connector portion 220a. In some embodiments, a single connector inner protrusion 28 can be provided that extends more than 180 degrees around the outer peripheral surface 59 of the second connector portion 220b. In other embodiments, two connector inner protrusions 28 can be provided that are opposite one another and can be arcuately shaped to substantially capture the outer peripheral surface 59 of the second connector portion 220b. In other embodiments, three or more connector inner protrusions 28 can be provided that can capture the connector inner protrusions 28 if they are spaced apart to cover more than 180 degrees of the outer peripheral surface 59 of the second connector portion 220b. Any suitable number of connector inner protrusions 28 can be used, including more than four. In the illustrated embodiment, the first connector portion 220a includes a flange 22, and the one or more connector inner protrusions 28 are disposed on the second side 22b of the flange 22.

[0069] The one or more connector inner protrusions 28 constitute a first connector inner structure shown at 222 at the second end 223b of the first connector portion 220a, and the outer peripheral surface 59 of the second connector portion 220b can constitute a second connector inner structure shown at 224 at the second end 223b of the second connector portion 220b. It is noted that, Figure 12 and Figure 13 the flange 22 of the second connector portion 220b is smaller than Figure 12 and Figure 13 the flange 22 of the first connector portion 220a.

[0070] Connector-to-building element protrusions 24 can be provided at the first end 223a of each of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b, for example, on the first side 22a of the flange 22 of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b.

[0071] In the illustrated embodiments of Figure 12 and Figure 13 at least one spacer (not shown) can optionally be provided on the connector inner protrusions 28 to maintain at least a selected spacing between the second side 22b of the flange 22 of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b to thereby prevent the decorative element 40 from being crushed.

[0072] To assemble the connector 10 depicted in Figure 12 and Figure 13 the connector inner protrusions 28 of the first connector portion 220a are inserted through the connector inner through hole 47 of the decorative element 40 onto the outer peripheral surface 59 of the second connector portion 220b.

[0073] In another exemplary embodiment, the first side 22a is substantially planar, as shown in Figure 6 and Figure 7 shown in the connector portion 20d.

[0074] In the embodiment shown in Figures 1-3B the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b are identical to each other, thereby allowing the manufacturing of a single type of component that can be assembled with another component of its own to form the connector 10, without the need to manufacture two different parts.

[0075] Figures 1-3B The first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b shown in Figures 12-13 both comprise a connector-to-building element protrusion 24 at the first end 223a of the main body 223 thereof, for connecting the first and second building elements 12, as shown in Figure 1 , 14 and 16. Notably, Figure 12 and Figure 13 the connector-to-building element protrusions 24 shown in Figures 1-9 are meant to simply represent the connector-to-building element protrusions 24 shown in Figure 12 and Figure 13 . In other words, the connector-to-building element protrusions 24 shown in Figures 1-9 may be identical to the connector-to-building element protrusions 24 shown in Figures 4A-4C . However, alternatively, the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b can comprise some other feature at the first end 223a. For example, with reference to Figures 1-3B the connector 10 can comprise a first connector portion 220a similar to the first connector portion 220a shown in Figure 4B , and a second connector portion 220b comprising a functional element 230 (e.g., a connector-to-movable element protrusion 231) instead of a connector-to-building element protrusion 24, as shown in Figures 1-3B In yet another embodiment, the connector 10 can comprise a first connector portion 220a similar to the first connector portion 220a shown in Figure 4C , and a second connector portion 220b comprising a functional element 230 (e.g., a connector-to-movable element hole 232) instead of a connector-to-building element protrusion 24, as shown in

[0076] The connector-to-movable element protrusion 230 allows the connector 10 to be connected to an element intended to move with respect to the building element 12 to which the connector 10 is connected. For example, in Figures 4A-4CIn the illustrated embodiment, the connector-to-movable-element protrusion 231 connects to the connector-to-movable-element hole 232 to form a ball-and-socket joint that can be used as, for example, a trailer hitch between a vehicle 296 and a trailer 298, both of which are formed from the building element 12, as Figure 21 illustrated. In such an embodiment, the connector-to-movable-element hole diameter 232 can be the movable element to which the connector-to-movable-element protrusion 231 is movably connected. Similarly, the connector-to-movable-element protrusion 231 can be the movable element to which the connector-to-movable-element hole 232 is connected.

[0077] Accordingly, one of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b can include the connector-to-movable-element protrusion 231 or the connector-to-movable-element hole 232 thereon, rather than the connector-to-building-element protrusion 24. It should also be noted that, Figures 4A-4C the first connector 220a and the second connector 220b in Figure 12 and Figure 13 may alternatively have the first connector inner structure 222 and the second connector inner structure 224 illustrated in Figure 3A and Figure 3B rather than the connector inner structure 221 illustrated in

[0078] Referring now to Figures 8-9 , according to other embodiments, the connector 10 includes a decorative element 40 disposed between the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b. In this embodiment, the first connector portion 220a itself includes a first portion 240 and a second portion 242. The first portion 240 of the first connector portion 220a includes the flange 22 and the connector-to-building-element protrusion 24 at the first end 223a (e.g., on the first side 22a of the flange 22). The first portion 240 also includes a shaft 241 extending from the second side 22b of the flange 22. The second portion 242 of the first connector portion 220a is rotatably mountable to the shaft 241. The second portion 242 of the first connector portion 220a is connected to the second connector portion 220b at the second end 223b by any suitable connector inner structure (e.g., the connector inner structure 221). As described above, the connector inner structure 221 includes at least one connector inner protrusion 28 and at least one connector inner hole 27. Alternatively, Figure 12 and Figure 13 the connector inner structures illustrated in 222 and 224 can alternatively be used to connect the second portion 242 of the first connector portion 220a to the second connector portion 220b.

[0079] In the illustrated embodiment, a shaft 241 can pass through a shaft receiving hole 246 in the second portion 242 of the first connector portion 220a, the decorative member 40, and a shaft receiving hole 248 in the second connector portion 220b. The fit of the shaft 241 in the shaft receiving holes 246 and 248 can be loose so as to allow the assembly (shown at 250) formed by the second portion 242 of the first connector portion 220a, the decorative member 40, and the second connector portion 220b to rotate on the shaft 241. The decorative member 40 in this embodiment can be shaped like a propeller on an airplane or a ship and can turn around the shaft 241.

[0080] To prevent the second portion 242 of the first connector portion 220a, the decorative member 40, and the second connector portion 220b from being inadvertently removed from the shaft 241, the shaft 241 can optionally include a plurality of resilient arms 252, each having a locking protrusion 254 at a free end that can engage a shoulder 256 on the second connector portion 220b. The shoulder 256 can itself be part of the first side face 22a of the flange 22 of the second connector portion 220b.

[0081] Notably, there are no connector-to-build-element protrusions, connector-to-movable-element protrusions, or connector-to-movable-element holes on the second connector portion 220b.

[0082] As Figure 8 shown, at least one spacer 29 can be provided on the connector-in-protrusion 28 and / or the connector-in-hole 27 to maintain at least a selected spacing between the second side faces 22b of the flange 22.

[0083] Notably, each of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b need not strictly include a flange 22. Where a flange 22 is provided, the second side faces 22b of the flange 22 serve as decorative element retaining surfaces 258 to engage the decorative element 40, thereby preventing the decorative element 40 from falling off of the first connector portion 220a or the second connector portion 220b, as the case can be. However, one or both of the first connector portion 220a or the second connector portion 220b can alternatively be provided without a flange 22, with the decorative element retaining surfaces 258 being provided directly on the body 223, Figure 10 An example of which is shown.

[0084] As Figure 10As shown, a first connector inner structure 260 can be provided at the second end 223b of the first connector portion 220a, and a second connector inner structure 262 can be provided at the second end 223b of the body of the second connector portion 264. The first connector structure 260 can include a single connector inner protrusion 28 extending from the second side 22a of the flange 22. The second connector structure 262 includes a single connector inner aperture 27 extending from the decorative element retention surface 258 on the body 223 and is positioned to cooperate with the decorative element retention surface 258 on the second side 22b of the flange 22 on the first connector portion 220a to capture the decorative element 40.

[0085] Figure 10 The decorative element 40 in the illustrated embodiment includes only a single connector inner through hole 47 to allow the connector inner protrusion 28 and the connector inner aperture 27 to pass through.

[0086] The first connector portion 220a can have a connector to build element protrusion 24, a connector to movable element protrusion 230, or a connector to movable element aperture 232 at the first end 223a (e.g., extending from the first side 22a of the flange 22). Similarly, the second connector portion 220b can have a connector to build element protrusion 24, a connector to movable element protrusion 230, or a connector to movable element aperture 232 at the first end 223a. Notably, Figure 10 The connector to build element protrusion 24 shown is intended to simply represent Figures 1-9 The connector to build element protrusion 24 shown. In other words, Figure 10 The connector to build element protrusion 24 shown can be identical to Figures 1-9 The connector to build element protrusion 24 shown.

[0087] To assemble Figure 10 The connector 10 shown, one of the first connector inner structure 260 and the second connector inner structure 262 is inserted through the connector inner through hole 47 of the decorative element 40, and then inserted into the other of the first connector inner structure 260 and the second connector inner structure 262, thereby capturing the decorative element 40 between the decorative element retention surfaces 258 on the first connector inner structure 260 and the second connector inner structure 262.

[0088] Reference is made to Figure 11 which shows another embodiment of the connector 10. Figure 11The connector 10 includes a decorative element 40 and a single connector portion 270, which includes a first flange 267 and a second flange 269, the first flange 267 and the second flange 269 being fixed to the body 223 at a selected distance from each other, and an intermediate member 271 connecting the second side surface 267b of the first flange 267 to the second side surface 269b of the second flange 269. The decorative element 40 can be connected to... Figure 10 The decorative elements 40 shown are basically similar, except that, Figure 11 The decorative element 40 includes a single connector inner through-hole 47 and at least one slit 272 extending outward from the edge of the connector inner through-hole 47, so that the connector inner through-hole 47 is flexible to allow one of the flanges 22 of the single connector portion 270 to pass through, thereby allowing the decorative element 40 to be positioned in the space between the two flanges 22. Although Figure 11 Two slits 272 are shown, but a single slit 272 or three or more slits 272 may exist. The two ends of a single connector portion 270 may be connectors to mounting element protrusions 24. Alternatively, connectors to movable element protrusions 231 or connectors to movable element holes 232 may be provided instead of one of the connectors to mounting element protrusions 24. Alternatively, one of the ends of a single connector portion 270 may have no structure to connect to the mounting element 12 or the movable element. It is worth noting that... Figure 11 The connector to the mounting element protrusion 24 shown is intended for simplification. Figures 1-9 The connector shown is attached to the mounting element protrusion 24. In other words, Figure 11 The connector shown can be connected to the mounting element protrusion 24. Figures 1-9 The connector shown is the same as the mounting element protrusion 24.

[0089] This disclosure provides embodiments of assembly toys. Assembly toys are assembled by connecting various building elements (e.g., blocks) together using various connectors. Assembly toys can use more or fewer building elements, different sizes, dimensions, and colors of building elements, and different types of connectors to assemble the building elements to form a variety of different toys. For illustrative purposes, Figures 14-16 The assembled toy shown resembles a lion. However, the assembled toy can be assembled into a wide variety of toy types, including but not limited to figurines or vehicles. Non-limiting examples of figurines can include monkeys, zebras, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, lions, people, dinosaurs, dragons, or any other type of character. Non-limiting examples of vehicles can include trucks, trains, tractors, etc. Figure 17 ), sailboats, airplanes, or cars.

[0090] Now for reference Figures 14-16FIG. 1 shows one exemplary embodiment of an assembly toy 1000 in accordance with the present disclosure. The assembly toy 1000 includes at least one building element 12 and at least one connector 10 that releasably couples the building elements 12 to one another to form a figurine, such as a lion. The building elements 12 can be wooden blocks having various shapes. However, one of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the building elements 12 can be composed of a variety of materials. Each building element 12 includes at least one building element aperture 14 that engages with the connector 10 such that the building elements 12 can be releasably coupled together. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the assembly toy 1000 includes a first block 1010, a second block 1020, and a third block 1030. The three building elements 12 are coupled together by three connectors, including a connector 10 between the second block 1020 and the third block 1030, and two connectors 99 between the first block 1010 and the second block 1020. Figures 14-15 In the exemplary embodiment shown, the assembly toy 1000 has three building elements 12: a first block shown at 1010, a second block shown at 1020, and a third block shown at 1030. The three building elements 12 are coupled together by three connectors, including a connector 10 between the second block 1020 and the third block 1030, and two connectors 99 between the first block 1010 and the second block 1020. Figure 16

[0091] Referring to Figure 16 The first block 1010 is releasably attached to the second block 1020 by two connectors 99. The connectors 99 used to connect the first block 1010 and the second block 1020 together can be unitary elements that include first and second connector-to-building element protrusions 24 and optional flanges 22. Although these connectors 99 can hold decorative elements, none are shown. It will be appreciated that more or fewer connectors 99 can be used to releasably attach the first block 1010 to the second block 1020.

[0092] The second block 1020 is releasably attached to the third block 1030 by a single connector 10 having a decorative element 40. The connector 10 used to connect the second block 1020 to the third block 1030 is composed of two connector portions 220a coupled together, with the decorative element 40 captured between the two connector portions 220a. The decorative element 40 resembles the mane of a lion.

[0093] Referring now to Figures 17-20 FIG. 1 shows one exemplary embodiment of an assembled toy 2000 in accordance with the present disclosure. The assembled toy 2000 includes a plurality of building elements 12, including a block 2010 and an accessory 2030. Two connectors 97 releasably couple the building element 1010 to a first front wheel and a second front wheel, shown at 2020a, and a connector 95 connects the building element 1010 to a first rear wheel and a second rear wheel, shown at 2020b. A connector 99 connects the block 2010 to the accessory 2030. The connector accessory 2040 is directly connected into the block 2010, forming a vehicle, such as a tractor. Each building element includes at least one building element hole 14 that engages with the connectors such that the building elements can be releasably coupled together.

[0094] Referring to Figure 18 The block 2010 is rectangular prismatic in shape and has a plurality of holes 14. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the block 2010 is made of wood or wood derivative. In other embodiments, the block 2010 can be made of any other suitable material, such as plastic, metal, or a combination thereof. In one embodiment, the holes 14 are all the same size and dimension. In another embodiment, the holes 14 can vary in size such that there are a plurality of different sized holes 14.

[0095] The two connectors 97 each include a connector to movable element protrusion, shown at 280, that forms a shaft to releasably and rotatably hold one of the front wheels 2020a. Similarly, the two rear wheels 2020b are releasably and rotatably coupled to the main block 2010 by two connector to movable element protrusions 2052a and 2054a on the connector 95. As shown at 2050, the connector 95 includes a first side flange 2052 and a second side flange 2054, and a main body 2053 that connects the first and second side flanges 2052 and 2054 together and to the first and second connector to building element protrusions 24. In one embodiment, the side flanges 2052, 2054 can be integrally formed with the main body 2053. In another embodiment, the side flanges 2052, 2054 can be connected to the main body 2053 by adhesive or welding. The first and second side flanges 2052, 2054 each include a connector to movable element protrusion 2052a, 2054a that extends away from the first and second side flanges 2052, 2054. Figure 20

[0096] It should be noted that Figure 4B or Figure 4C The connector 10 shown at 10 can be inserted into a rear hole 14 on the block 2010 of the assembled toy 2000 to be used as a trailer hitch device to connect to a trailer 2040 mounted to another wheeled vehicle assembled toy, such as the tractor shown at 2000a. Figure 4B andFigure 4C Another connector 10 is shown.

[0097] In Figures 17-20 In the illustrated embodiment, it should be noted that the connectors 99, 97, and 95 do not include a first connector portion 220a and a second connector portion 220b. Thus, such connectors are not assembled but are preformed.

[0098] Figure 2A , 10 The elements shown in Figs. 11 and 12 can each be considered a kit of parts 300 that can be used to form a connector (e.g., connector 10). The kit of parts 300 includes a first connector portion (e.g., first connector portion 220a) having a first end 223a with a connector-to-building element protrusion (e.g., connector-to-building element protrusion 24) and a second end 223b with at least one connector- in-protrusion (e.g., at least one connector-in-protrusion 28). The connector-to-building element protrusion 220a of the first connector portion 220a is engageable with a building element hole 14 on a first building element (e.g., building element 1020 or building element 1030) to connect the first connector portion 220a thereto. The kit of parts 300 includes a second connector portion (e.g., second connector portion 220b) having a first end 223a with a connector-to-building element protrusion (e.g., connector-to-building element protrusion 24). The connector-to-building element protrusion 24 of the second connector portion 220b is engageable with a building element hole 14 on a second building element (e.g., building element 1020 or building element 1030) to connect the second connector portion 220b thereto. The second end 223b of the second connector portion 220b is releasably engageable with the at least one connector-in-protrusion 28 on the first connector portion 220b to releasably connect the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b together, and the decorative element retaining surface 258 of the first connector portion 220a and the decorative element retaining surface 258 of the second connector portion 220b face and are spaced apart from each other.

[0099] Optionally, the first connector portion 220a further comprises a decorative element retaining surface 258 of the first connector portion 220a, and the second connector portion 220b further comprises a decorative element retaining surface 258 of the second connector portion 220b. The second end 223b of the second connector portion 220b is shaped so that it releasably engages with the at least one connector inner protrusion 28 on the first connector portion 220b to releasably connect the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b together so that the decorative element retaining surface 258 of the first connector portion 220a and the decorative element retaining surface 258 of the second connector portion 220b face each other and are spaced apart from each other. The kit of parts 300 can further comprise a decorative element 40 which is positionable between the decorative element retaining surfaces 258 of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b. The decorative element comprises at least one connector inner through hole 47 to allow the at least one connector inner protrusion 28 to pass therethrough to connect with the second connector portion 220b.

[0100] Optionally, at least one of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b comprises a flange 22 which separates the first end 223a and the second end 223b and has a first side 22a which is positioned to engage with the outer surface 13 of the associated one of the first building element 1020 and the second building element 1030, and a second side 22b which is the decorative element retaining surface 258. This engagement with the outer surface 13 can help to ensure that at least one of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b is oriented correctly in the building element aperture 14.

[0101] Optionally, the connector to building element protrusions 24 on the first connector portion 220a are the same as the connector to building element protrusions 24 on the second connector portion 220b. As a first option, the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b can be the same, thereby facilitating the manufacture of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b as a single type of component can be used as both the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b.

[0102] Optionally, the second end 223b of the second connector portion 220b includes at least one connector inner hole (e.g., at least one connector inner hole 27) positioned to receive at least one connector inner protrusion 28. Alternatively, the at least one connector inner protrusion 28 is the at least one connector inner protrusion 28 of the first connector portion 220a, the at least one connector inner hole 27 is the at least one connector inner hole 27 of the second connector portion 220b, the second end 223b of the second connector portion 220b further includes at least one connector inner protrusion 28 of the second connector portion 220b, and the second end 223b of the first connector portion 220a includes at least one connector inner hole 27 of the first connector portion 220a positioned to receive at least one connector inner protrusion 28 of the second connector portion 220b.

[0103] Optionally, the decorative element 40 is made of a material (e.g., felt) that is different from the material (e.g., plastic, or metal, or any other suitable strong material) of the first connector portion 220a and the second connector portion 220b. Alternatively, the material of the decorative element 40 is softer than the material of the first connector portion and the second connector portion. This helps to more realistically portray the character feature depicted by the assembled structure (in embodiments that use the decorative element 40). For example, the decorative element 40 can represent the mane of a lion (which is relatively flexible compared to the body of a lion). Figure 15 The building elements 1010, 1020, and 1030 can be made of any suitable material, such as wood, plastic, or any other suitable material.

[0104] Optionally, the kit of parts 300 further includes at least one spacer (e.g., spacer 29) that extends from at least one of the decorative element holding surface 258 of the first connector portion 220a and the decorative element holding surface 258 of the second connector portion 220b.

[0105] Optionally, the kit of parts 300 can further include a plurality of building elements (e.g., building elements 1010, 1020, and 1030).

[0106] Optionally, the first connector portion 220a can be one of a plurality of first connector portions 220a, each having a different color, and the second connector portion 220b can be one of a plurality of second connector portions 220b, each having a different color.

[0107] In another aspect, the kit of parts 300 described above can further include a third connector portion (e.g., Figure 4B or Figure 4CThe third connector portion 220b has a first end 223a and a second end 223b, the first end 223a having a functional element that is one of a connector-to-movable-element- protrusion 230 or a connector-to-movable-element-hole 232. The functional element of the third connector portion can engage with another functional element on a movable element, such as a vehicle trailer. Figure 11 Figure 11 The single connector portion 270 includes a first flange (e.g., first flange 267) having a first side 267a with a first connector-to-building-element-protrusion 24 extending therefrom and a second side 267b with a first decorative-element-retention surface 258 thereon. The single connector portion 270 includes a second flange (e.g., second flange 269) having a first side 269a with a second connector-to-building-element-protrusion 24 extending therefrom and a second side 269b with a second decorative-element-retention surface 258 facing the first decorative-element-retention surface 258 thereon, and an intermediate member 271 connecting the second side 267b of the first flange 267 with the second side 269b of the second flange 269. The first flange 267 has a first flange cross-sectional dimension DIM1 and the second flange 269 has a second flange cross-sectional dimension DIM2. The first flange cross-sectional dimension DIM1 is the smallest cross-sectional dimension of the first flange 267. In embodiments where the first flange 267 is circular, the first flange cross-sectional dimension DIM1 is the same in any direction. The second flange cross-sectional dimension DIM2 is the smallest cross-sectional dimension of the second flange 269. In embodiments where the second flange 269 is circular, the second flange cross-sectional dimension DIM2 is the same in any direction. However, the first flange 267 and the second flange 269 can have any other suitable shape, such as a polygonal, non-circular arc, or irregular shape. The decorative element 40 has a connector-internal through-hole 47 therethrough to fit around the intermediate member. The connector-internal through-hole has a hole cross-sectional dimension DIM3 that is smaller than the first flange cross-sectional dimension DIM1 and the second flange cross-sectional dimension DIM2. The decorative element 40 is flexible to allow the connector-internal through-hole 47 to expand to fit over at least one of the first flange 267 and the second flange 269 so as to be positioned between the first flange 267 and the second flange 269 around the intermediate member 271.
