Compression-limiting box nut

Abstract

A sheet metal nut for connecting a first component to a second component has a sheet metal body section and a fastener plate that carries an internally threaded collar defining an internally threaded bore along an axis. The sheet metal nut is designed to create a predetermined clearance between the first and second components when a threaded fastener is tightened in the internally threaded bore, thereby maintaining a gap between the first and second components. In one example, the sheet metal nut is designed as a box nut with retaining jaws configured to engage an opening in the first component.
