Abstract

A method is disclosed in which starting or precursor ions are fragmented or converted according to a first fragmentation or reaction operating mode, and the method then temporarily switches to a second fragmentation or reaction operating mode when an ion of interest is detected. This enables a complete, undistorted MS / MS dataset over a wide mass-to-charge ratio range with a high duty cycle, along with complementary detailed fragment data of interest, to be provided in a single trial or acquisition.
