[0001] The present disclosure relates to a working device and a construction machine including the working device. State of the art
[0002] A construction machine, such as a wheel loader, typically includes a work tool coupled to the construction machine. The work tool, such as a bucket, can be used to perform various work operations. For example, the work tool can be used to hold and move materials such as rubble, soil, and the like. Furthermore, different types of work tools can be coupled to the construction machine based on the type of work operation being performed. Conventionally, a sensor can be coupled to the work tool to determine the type of work tool currently coupled to the construction machine.
[0003] The sensor may be coupled to the work tool via a mounting assembly. However, the sensor and mounting assembly may be damaged and / or fail during operation of the construction machine, for example, due to material spillage or contact with an obstacle on a construction site. In some examples, the mounting assembly may be welded to the construction machine. However, the welded mounting assembly may pose durability risks. Furthermore, conventional mounting assemblies may not be retrofittable, cost-effective, or durable.

Detailed description
[0008] Wherever possible, the same reference numbers are used throughout the drawings to identify the same or similar parts. With reference to Fig. 1 illustrates a side view of an exemplary construction machine 100. The construction machine 100 is embodied as a wheel loader, which can be used for purposes such as construction, landscaping, agriculture, and the like. Alternatively, the construction machine 100 can also be embodied as a bulldozer, excavator, tractor with one or more work tools, motor grader, scraper, etc., which can be used in various industries for moving, removing, or loading materials such as asphalt, rubble, dirt, snow, forage, gravel, logs, raw minerals, recycled material, rock, sand, wood chips, etc. It should be noted that the construction machine 100 can embody any type of machine that includes a work tool.
[0009] The construction machine 100 includes a frame 102 having a front end 120 and a rear end 122 opposite the front end 120. The frame 102 supports various components of the construction machine 100, such as a power source (not shown). The power source may include a drive such as an internal combustion engine, batteries, motors, and the like. The power source provides the construction machine 100 with the power required for operation and mobility. The construction machine 100 includes a hood 104 near the rear end 122 of the frame 102. The hood 104 encloses the power source.
[0010] The construction machine 100 further includes an operator's cab 106 supported on the frame 102. The operator's cab 106 includes one or more controls (not shown), such as joysticks, pedals, levers, buttons, switches, knobs, audiovisual devices, operator consoles, a steering wheel, and the like. The controls may enable an operator to control the construction machine 100 during operation.
[0011] The construction machine 100 also includes a linkage assembly 108 movably coupled to the frame 102. The linkage assembly 108 is disposed near the front end 120 of the frame 102. The linkage assembly 108 includes an arm 110 movably coupled to the frame 102. The construction machine 100 also includes a work implement 112 movably coupled to the linkage assembly 108. The work implement 112 can be used to perform one or more work operations, such as loading material, piling material, dumping material, and the like. The work implement 112 is presently embodied as a bucket. It should be noted that the configuration of the bucket illustrated herein is exemplary, and the bucket may comprise any other configuration and / or shape. Furthermore, the work tool 112 may include any other type of work tool, such as a blade, a ripper, or the like.
[0012] The linkage assembly 108 also includes one or more actuators 114 (of which Fig. 1 only two are illustrated) to effect movement of the work implement 112. That is, the work implement 112 may be movable based on the operation of the one or more actuators 114 associated with the linkage assembly 108. Further, the actuators 114 may comprise a hydraulic actuator or a pneumatic actuator. The construction machine 100 further includes a number of wheels 116. The wheels 116 provide the construction machine 100 with support and mobility on the ground.
[0013] Fig. 2A illustrates a perspective view of the working device 112. As in Fig. As illustrated in Figure 2A, the implement 112 defines a longitudinal axis A1 and a transverse axis A2 orthogonal to the longitudinal axis A1. The implement 112 is symmetrical about a plane of symmetry that is parallel to the longitudinal axis A1 and orthogonal to the transverse axis A2. The implement 112 includes a collection member 124 having a first end 126 and a second end 128 spaced from the first end 126 along the transverse axis A2 of the implement 112. The collection member 124 defines a material receiving space (not shown here). The material receiving space can hold various types of materials therein. The collection member 124 can include a generally arcuate profile.
[0014] The implement 112 also includes a first sidewall 132 extending from the first end 126 of the collection member 124 along the longitudinal axis A1 of the implement 112. The implement 112 further includes a second sidewall 134 spaced apart from the first sidewall 132 along the transverse axis A2. The second sidewall 134 extends from the second end 128 of the collection member 124 along the longitudinal axis A1. The first sidewall 132 may be substantially similar in construction and size to the second sidewall 134. The implement 112 further includes a plate member 136 coupled to the collection member 124, the first sidewall 132, and the second sidewall 134. The plate member 136 extends along the transverse axis A2 between the first sidewall 132 and the second sidewall 134. In the illustrated example of Fig. 2A, the plate element 136 comprises a torsion tube.
[0015] Furthermore, the first side wall 132 includes a first side edge 138 such that the plate element 136 is coupled to the first side wall 132 at the first side edge 138. Furthermore, the second side wall 134 includes a second side edge 140 such that the plate element 136 is coupled to the second side wall 134 at the second side edge 140.
[0016] The collection element 124, the first side wall 132, the second side wall 134, and the plate element 136 together define a cavity 142 of the implement 112. Furthermore, the first side wall 132, the second side wall 134, or the plate element 136 defines an opening 144 that communicates with the cavity 142 of the implement 112. In the illustrated example of Fig. 2A, the plate member 136 defines the opening 144 that communicates with the cavity 142 of the implement 112. The opening 144 may be defined near the first end 126 or the second end 128 of the collection member 124. In the illustrated example of Fig. 2A, the opening 144 is defined near the first end 126 of the collecting element 124. The opening 144 in the plate element 136 has a first length "L1" extending along the transverse axis A2 and a second length "L2" orthogonal to the first length "L1." The first length "L1" is greater than the second length "L2." Further, the opening 144 includes a first region "R1." Furthermore, the implement 112 may include a number of first through-holes 146 near the opening 144. In the illustrated example of Fig. 2A, the work tool 112 includes four first through holes 146. Alternatively, the total number of first through holes 146 may vary depending on the application requirements. In some examples, an inner surface of the plate member 136 may include a number of weld nuts (not shown) such that each weld nut may be aligned with a corresponding first through hole 146. The weld nuts may be coupled to the work tool 112 prior to assembly of the work tool 112.
[0017] In another example, the opening 144 may be defined, without limitation, proximate the second end 128. Furthermore, in other examples, the opening 144 may be defined in the first side wall 132 or the second side wall 134 proximate the first side edge 138 or the second side edge 140, respectively. For example, as shown in Fig. 1, the opening 144 is defined in the second sidewall 134 proximate the second side edge 140. In some examples, the opening 144 in the second sidewall 134 has a first length "L3" extending along the longitudinal axis A1 and a second length "L4" orthogonal to the first length "L3." The second length "L4" is greater than the first length "L3."
[0018] With reference to Fig. 2B, the working device 112 further comprises a sensor mounting system 150. The sensor mounting system 150 can be releasably connected to the first side wall 132 (see Fig. 4B), the second side wall 134 (see Fig. 1) or the plate element 136. In the Fig. 3, the sensor mounting system 150 is detachably coupled to the plate member 136. Alternatively, the sensor mounting system 150 may be Fig. 1, be detachably coupled to the second side wall 134.
[0019] As in Fig. 2B, the sensor mounting system 150 includes a cover 152 having a first surface 154 and a second surface 156 (see Fig. 3) opposite the first surface 154. The first and second surfaces 154, 156 may have a substantially planar profile. The cover 152 may be made of a metallic or non-metallic material. For example, the cover 152 may be made of a metal sheet or a material that is inexpensive and durable to withstand the loads during operation of the construction machine 100 (see Fig. 1). Alternatively, the cover 152 may be made of a polymer. Furthermore, the cover 152 includes a second region "R2." In some examples, the second region A2 of the cover 152 is larger than the first region "R1" of the opening 144 (see Fig. 2A). It should be noted that the second area "R2" of the cover 152 can be selected such that the cover 152 completely encloses the opening 144.
[0020] Furthermore, the cover 152 is releasably coupled to the first side wall 132, the second side wall 134, or the plate member 136 such that the cover 152 is aligned with the opening 144. In the illustrated example of Fig. 2B, the cover 152 is detachably coupled to the plate member 136. Furthermore, when the cover 152 is coupled to the first side wall 132, the second side wall 134, or the plate member 136, the second surface 156 of the cover 152 faces the cavity 142 (see Fig. 2A). For example, when the cover 152 is coupled to the plate member 136, the second surface 156 of the cover 152 faces the cavity 142. Additionally, based on the coupling of the cover 152 to the plate member 136, a portion of the second surface 156 of the cover 152 may be in contact with the plate member 136.
[0021] The sensor mounting system 150 further includes a number of mechanical fasteners 158 that releasably couple the cover 152 to the implement 112. The mechanical fasteners 158 may include bolts, screws, pins, and the like. In the illustrated example of Fig. 2B, the sensor mounting system 150 includes four mechanical fasteners 158. However, in other examples, the sensor mounting system 150 may include any number of mechanical fasteners 158 without limitation.
[0022] With reference to Fig. 3, the cover 152 defines a number of second through-holes 153. In the illustrated example of Fig. 3, the cover 152 comprises four second through-holes 153. Alternatively, the total number of second through-holes 153 may vary depending on the application requirements. The second through-holes 153 in the cover 152 are connected to the first through-holes 146 (see Fig. 2A) in the working device 112 to receive a corresponding mechanical fastener 158.
[0023] The sensor attachment system 150 further includes a mounting bracket 160 coupled to the cover 152. A size of the mounting bracket 160 may be smaller than the first area "R1" of the opening 144 so that the opening 144 may allow the mounting bracket 160 to pass therethrough. The mounting bracket 160 may be made of a polymer, without limitation. The mounting bracket 160 is coupled to the cover 152 by one or more fasteners 162. In the illustrated example of Fig. 3, the fastening devices 162 comprise a pair of mechanical fasteners. In particular, the fastening devices 162 comprise a nut and bolt arrangement. Alternatively, the fastening devices 162 may comprise screws, pins, and the like. In other examples, the fastening devices 162 may comprise, without limitation, adhesives, spring-loaded clips, and the like. Further, the mounting bracket 160 may be coupled to the cover 152 by a magnetic closure arrangement, a snap-fit arrangement, and the like. The sensor mounting system 150 further includes a sensor 164 mounted to the second surface 156 of the cover 152. In particular, the sensor 164 is disposed within the mounting bracket 160 and mounted to the second surface 156 of the cover 152. The mounting bracket 160 may hold and support the sensor 164.Furthermore, when the cover 152 is coupled to the first side wall 132, the second side wall 134, or the plate member 136, the sensor 164 is at least partially received within the cavity 142 (see . Fig. 2A).
[0024] In some examples, the sensor 164 is a Bluetooth sensor. For example, the sensor 164 may generate a signal indicative of the type of work tool 112 currently paired with the construction machine 100 (see Fig. 1). It should be noted that the present disclosure is not limited by any type of sensor 164 or any total number of sensors 164. Accordingly, the sensor mounting system 150 may include more than one sensor 164. Furthermore, the sensor 164 may be used for any other purpose and may embody, without limitation, any other type of sensor, such as a radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor.
[0025] Fig. 4A illustrates another embodiment of the present disclosure. As in Fig. 4A, the first side wall 132 of the implement 112 defines the opening 144. The opening 144 is defined in the first side wall 132 near the first side edge 138 such that the opening 144 is in communication with the cavity 142 (see Fig. 4A). The opening 144 in the first side wall 132 has a first length "L3" extending along the longitudinal axis A1 and a second length "L4" orthogonal to the first length "L3." The second length "L4" is greater than the first length "L3."
[0026] With reference to Fig. 4B, the cover 152 is coupled to the first side wall 132 such that the cover 152 is aligned with the opening 144 (see Fig. 4A). Upon coupling the cover 152 to the first side wall 132, the second surface 156 of the cover 152 faces the cavity 142. Further, upon coupling the cover 152 to the first side wall 132, a portion of the second side 156 of the cover 152 is in contact with the first side wall 132. Furthermore, upon coupling the cover 152 to the first side wall 132, the sensor 164 (see Fig. 3) at least partially received within the cavity 142 (see Fig. 2A).
[0027] With reference to Fig. 5A illustrates a schematic perspective view of the sensor mounting system 150 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. The sensor mounting system 150 includes a cover 252 that may be coupled to the implement 112 (see Fig. 1-2B). The cover 252 may essentially be the same as in Fig. 2B and Fig. 3. However, the cover 252 defines one or more cutouts 266 such that the one or more cutouts 266 are aligned with the sensor 164. The cutout 266 may be provided when the cover 252 is made of a metallic material to enhance the transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. In the illustrated example of Fig. 5A, the cover 252 includes a single cutout 266. The cutout 266 has a substantially square shape. However, in other examples, the cutout 266 may include a rectangular shape, a circular shape, and the like, based on the application requirements. It should be noted that the cutout 266 may include a shape and size that allows for uninterrupted transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. In some examples, the cutout 266 may be covered by a transparent plastic piece to protect the sensor 164 from dust and debris.
[0028] With reference to Fig. Figure 5B illustrates a schematic perspective view of the sensor mounting system 150 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. The sensor mounting system 150 includes a cover 352 that may be coupled to the implement 112 (see Fig. 1-2B). The cover 352 may essentially be the same as in Fig. 2B and Fig. 3. However, the cover 352 defines one or more cutouts 366 such that the one or more cutouts 366 are aligned with the sensor 164. In the illustrated example of Fig. 5B, the cover 352 includes a pair of cutouts 366. The cutouts 366 may be provided when the cover 352 is made of a metallic material to enhance the transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. The cutouts 366 have a substantially rectangular shape. In some examples, the cover 352 may define more than two cutouts 366 based on the application requirements. It should be noted that the cutouts 366 may include a shape and size that allows for uninterrupted transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. In some examples, the cutouts 366 may be covered by a transparent plastic piece to protect the sensor 164 from dust and debris.
[0029] With reference to Fig. 5C illustrates a schematic perspective view of the sensor mounting system 150 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure. The sensor mounting system 150 includes a cover 452 that may be coupled to the implement 112 (see Fig. 1-2B). The cover 452 may substantially correspond to the Fig. 2B and Fig.3. However, the cover 452 defines a single cutout 466. Alternatively, the cover 452 may include two or more cutouts 466. The cutouts 466 may be provided when the cover 452 is made of a metallic material to enhance the transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. In some examples, the cutout 466 may be covered by a flap 468. The flap 468 may be made of a material that allows for uninterrupted transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. The flap 468 may be made of a flexible material, such as rubber. Alternatively, the flap 468 may be made of a plastic material. The flap 468 may prevent dust, dirt, or water from entering the cutout 466, thus protecting the sensor 164.
[0030] It should be understood that individual features illustrated or described for one embodiment may be combined with individual features illustrated or described for another embodiment. The above-described implementation in no way limits the scope of the present disclosure. Therefore, although some features are illustrated or described to describe the use of the present disclosure in the context of functional segments, it is to be understood that such features may be excluded from the scope of the present disclosure without departing from the spirit of the present disclosure as described in the appended claims. Industrial applicability
[0031] The work tool 112 includes the sensor mounting system 150, which enables coupling of the sensor 164 to the work tool 112. The sensor 164 can enable the exchange of information about the type of work tool 112 currently coupled to the construction machine 100. The presently described sensor mounting system 150 can be cost-effective, durable, and retrofittable. The sensor mounting system 150 includes the cover 152, 252, 352, 452, which can be removably coupled to the work tool 112. Furthermore, the cover 152, 252, 352, 452 can have a simple and cost-effective construction. Furthermore, the cover 152, 252, 352, 452 can be easily removable and replaceable. In addition, the sensor mounting system 150 is designed such that when the sensor mounting system 150 is coupled to the working device 112, the sensor 164 is mounted within an already existing enclosed area, ie, the cavity 142 of the plate member 136 (iethe torsion tube).
[0032] The sensor mounting system 150 can be coupled to the work tool 112 without requiring significant structural changes to the work tool 112. In some examples, weld nuts can be coupled to the work tool 112 to minimize any structural changes to the work tool 112.
[0033] Furthermore, the sensor mounting system 150 can be coupled to any of the plate member 136, the first sidewall 132, or the second sidewall 134. The sensor mounting system 150 can be located near a top edge of the implement 112, thereby avoiding the likelihood of ground contact of the sensor 164. Furthermore, because the sensor 164 is housed within the cavity 142, any contact of the sensor 164 with materials handled by the implement 112, such as during material overflow from the implement 112, can be avoided.
[0034] Furthermore, in some examples, the cover 152 may be non-metallic to enhance transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. In such examples, the cover 152 may be loosely connected to the implement 112. However, in other examples, the cover 252, 352, 452 may be metallic. In such examples, the cover 252, 352, 452 may include cutouts 266, 366, 466 to enhance transmission and reception of signals from the sensor 164. In one example, the cover 452 may include the flap 468 so that the sensor 164 may be protected from dust or dirt.
[0035] While aspects of the present disclosure have been particularly shown and described with reference to the foregoing embodiments, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various additional embodiments may be contemplated by modifying the disclosed machines, systems, and methods without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure. These embodiments are to be understood as falling within the scope of the present disclosure as determined based on the claims and any equivalents thereof. QUOTES CONTAINED IN THE DESCRIPTION
