Description

[0001] Mixture for on horse hooves

[0002] The present invention relates to a mixture for application to horse hooves. Hoofs can be severely damaged by excessive moisture, bacteria, and ammonia, which can be produced during the decomposition process of horse urine and feces, and hoof diseases, such as thrush in particular, can easily spread.

[0003] There are known products that can be applied to hooves to treat or prevent such hoof diseases.

[0004] The disadvantages of the known remedies are that they are very laborious to apply to the hooves, that the application has to be repeated at short intervals, that the known remedies have only a limited effect and / or that the known remedies do not bring about regeneration.

[0005] The object of the invention is to overcome the disadvantages known from the prior art. The object of the invention can therefore be considered, among other things, to provide a product that is easy to use. Furthermore, the product should be long-lasting, have good antibacterial and antibiotic effects, and promote the regeneration of the sole and frog.

[0006] To solve the problem, a mixture for application to horse hooves is provided, wherein the mixture comprises a pasty material, copper sulfate, zinc oxide and honey.

[0007] The mixture can be applied to the hooves, especially the underside of the hooves, and forms a barrier against harmful substances, as well as bacteria and fungi. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It also dries out the underside of the hooves and promotes the growth of the sole and frog. The mixture thus creates a physical barrier to the environment and prevents the growth of pests, thus acting in two stages and promoting healthy growth of the sole and frog of the horse's hooves.

[0008] Due to its long-lasting effectiveness, it is sufficient to apply the mixture only once a day. Horseshoes and / or padding material can be applied to the hooves immediately after applying the mixture.

[0009] The mixture is not sticky, so hardly any impurities or straw or the like stick to the mixture applied to the hooves.

[0010] The mixture is in paste form. Due to its high viscosity, the mixture remains on the hoof as applied and does not run. The mixture can be used to fill hoof cracks and nail holes, as it does not flow out of them. This prevents the penetration of foreign materials.

[0011] The pasty material forms the basis of the mixture. In an advantageous embodiment, the pasty material comprises clay minerals and water. The pasty material preferably consists of clay minerals and water. Clay minerals are usually formed by the weathering of other minerals or glasses. Clay minerals can be aluminum silicates. Clay can be used as the pasty material. Clay usually already contains water and is therefore in the form of a paste. The pasty material can also be produced by mixing clay minerals, such as clay flour or clay powder, with water.

[0012] Preferably, a clay powder comprising 70-80 wt.% SiO2 and 15-25 wt.% Al2O3 is used for this purpose. One, several, or all compounds selected from the group consisting of TiO2, Fe2O5, CaO, MgO, K2O, and Na2O may be present as further components in the clay powder. Kaolinite is preferably used as the clay powder. Kaolinite is a phyllosilicate with the composition Al4[(OH)5|Si4O10]. The invention also provides for the use of kaolin as the clay powder for producing the pasty material. Kaolin consists primarily of kaolinite, along with other clay minerals.

[0013] In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the pasty material comprises 50 to 80% by weight, preferably 60 to 70% by weight, of clay minerals, preferably in the form of clay powder. The pasty material may comprise 20 to 50% by weight, preferably 30 to 40% by weight, of water. The pasty material may comprise other components.

[0014] The mixture according to the invention preferably comprises 50 to 97% by weight, particularly preferably 75 to 93% by weight, of pasty material. The mixture according to the invention can also comprise 65 to 85% by weight of pasty material.

[0015] Preferably, at least 75% by weight of the solids of the pasty material has a particle size of <4 μm. The particle size can be determined according to EN ISO 14688. This type of material has been found to provide good adhesion and bonding to the hoof surface, as well as uniform distribution, and also exhibit good permeability, meaning it easily penetrates the hoof structure.

[0016] The mixture also contains honey. Honey is a viscous sugar solution with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. The honey, in combination with the pasty material, ensures the mixture adheres to the hooves.

[0017] The mixture preferably comprises 1 to 15% by weight, more preferably 2 to 4% by weight, of honey. It has been shown that the aforementioned amount of honey is sufficient to achieve a positive effect. However, the mixture according to the invention can also comprise more honey, for example, 4 to 12% by weight. The copper sulfate component of the mixture has antibacterial and antifungal effects. Copper sulfate is said to disrupt the synthesis of microbial DNA and damage the cell membranes of bacteria and fungi. The copper sulfate can be present as copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate.

[0018] The mixture preferably comprises 1 to 15% by weight, more preferably 2 to 4% by weight, of copper sulfate. It has been shown that the aforementioned amount of copper sulfate is sufficient to achieve a positive effect. However, the mixture according to the invention can also comprise more, for example, 4 to 12% by weight, of copper sulfate.

[0019] Zinc oxide, a component of the mixture, has antiseptic, antibacterial, and drying effects. Zinc oxide is effective against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Zinc oxide also acts against spores.

[0020] The mixture preferably comprises 1 to 15% by weight, more preferably 2 to 4% by weight, of zinc oxide. It has been shown that the aforementioned amount of zinc oxide is sufficient to achieve a positive effect. However, the mixture according to the invention can also comprise more, for example, 4 to 12% by weight, of zinc oxide.

[0021] In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the mixture comprises an essential oil, preferably in the form of eucalyptus oil. Essential oils, especially eucalyptus oil, have antimicrobial properties and an antiseptic effect. They also have deodorizing properties.

[0022] The mixture preferably comprises 0.5 to 4% by weight, more preferably 1 to 3% by weight, of essential oil, for example eucalyptus oil. It has been shown that the aforementioned amount of essential oil, such as eucalyptus oil, achieves a particularly positive effect. However, the mixture according to the invention can also comprise less, for example 0.05 to 1% by weight, preferably 0.2 to 0.6% by weight, of essential oil, such as eucalyptus oil. The weight proportions of the individual components of the mixture can be selected within the specified limits so that they add up to 100% by weight. In one embodiment, the weight proportions of the individual components can be selected within the specified limits so that they add up to less than 100% by weight, so that the mixture can comprise further components. The mixture preferably consists of a pasty material, copper sulfate, zinc oxide, honey, and optionally an essential oil.

[0023] A preferred composition of the mixture is:

[0024] Kaolinite: 500 - 650 g

[0025] Water: 223 - 350 g

[0026] ZnO: 15 - 50 g

[0027] CUSO4: 15 - 50 g

[0028] Honey: 15 - 50 g

[0029] Eucalyptus oil: 7 - 40 g (optional)

[0030] Another preferred composition of the mixture is:

[0031] Kaolinite: 275 g

[0032] Water: 145 g

[0033] ZnO: 47.5 g

[0034] CUSO4: 47.5 g

[0035] Honey: 47.5 g

[0036] Eucalyptus oil: 2.5 g

[0037] The individual components can be combined and mixed to obtain the mixture according to the invention.

[0038] The mixture is preferably designed to harden in air. This ensures that the physical barrier formed by the mixture is maintained for a long time, even when the horse is moving. During hardening, the water content of the mixture is reduced. Likewise, moisture is drawn from the hoof, thereby depriving the bacteria of the moisture it needs. The mixture can be used together with a hoof prosthesis, which is preferably made of polyurethane and encloses the hoof. Thus, the invention is also directed to a hoof prosthesis comprising the mixture according to the invention. Preferably, the hoof prosthesis is designed to at least partially enclose a hoof. Preferably, the hoof prosthesis comprises a polymer material. The hoof prosthesis is preferably adapted to the hoof contour for which it is intended. The hoof prosthesis is preferably glued to a hoof.Contour adaptation and bonding can be achieved by filling the unpolymerized polymer material into a mold surrounding the hoof and then curing it. The mixture can be applied to the hoof beforehand. Especially in hooves encapsulated in this way, the hooves can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Applying the mixture according to the invention before fitting a hoof prosthesis can counteract hoof damage.

[0039] The mixture according to the invention can be used as a medicament. The mixture according to the invention is preferably intended for use in the treatment of thrush. For this purpose, the mixture can be applied to the hoof to be treated.
