AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Traditional wristwatch cases with screwed or pressed case covers have multiple sealing surfaces prone to water ingress, requiring separate components and complicating maintenance, and the glass assembly makes internal access difficult.

Method used

A monocoque housing design with a press-fit watch glass and glass seal, using a hand lever press for assembly, and a compressed air mechanism to eject the glass for maintenance, allowing easy access to internal components.

Benefits of technology

The design ensures a watertight seal and easy maintenance by enabling the watch glass to be ejected using compressed air, maintaining the integrity of the watch case while facilitating access to internal components without damage.

Description

[0001] Conventional wristwatch cases typically feature a screwed or pressed-on case cover, usually located on the underside. This design therefore has multiple sealing surfaces, where the likelihood of water ingress is higher. This is especially true because several components, such as the case cover, must be specially manufactured.

[0002] The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the problem of producing a watch case from a single blank, whereby no further components such as a case cover are required and a simple assembly / disassembly of the watch glass and thus the maintenance of the internal components such as the movement, hands or dial are made easy and quick.

[0003] This problem is solved by the features listed in claim 1.

[0004] The watch crystal (2) and, if applicable, the corresponding glass seal (3) are pressed from the top into the glass seat of the monocoque case (1) using a hand-lever press. The hole (4), located between the lugs, is then sealed with a suitable cylinder-head screw (9) and the corresponding O-ring (10).

[0005] The monocoque housing (1) is now sealed watertight.

[0006] Normally, access for maintenance purposes would no longer be possible due to the pressed-in watch glass (2), as the watch glass (2) would have to be destroyed to access the internal components for maintenance.

[0007] By means of the invention it is achieved that the watch glass (2) is pressed out of the glass seat by means of an introduced overpressure by means of a hand air pump or compressor and thus the watch glass can be dismantled in order to gain access to the internal watch components such as the hands, dial and clockwork.

[0008] To disassemble the watch crystal, remove the cylinder head screw (9) and the corresponding O-ring (10) located in the hole (4) located on the outer surface or between the lugs of the monocoque watch case (1). The compressed air connection is then screwed into the hole (4). This creates an airtight connection between the compressed air connection (8) and the monocoque watch case (1).

[0009] The compressed air connection (8) is connected to the compressed air hose (11) of a hand air pump or other compressed air source. The pressure in the monocoque watch case is slowly increased using the hand air pump. Depending on how tightly the watch crystal (2) sits in the glass seat, the resulting overpressure of approximately 1-5 bar pushes the watch crystal out of the glass seat or the seal seat from inside the monocoque watch case (1).

[0010] In order to avoid deformation of the dial (6) due to the short-term prevailing pressure difference within the monocoque wristwatch case (1), which results from the pressing out of the watch glass (2) and the subsequent pressure drop to normal ambient pressure, ventilation slots (7) are incorporated in the dial (6).

[0011] An embodiment of the invention is described with reference to Fig. 1 to Fig. 6 explains
