AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Mushroom head screws and rivets for bracelets and leather items lack branding options on the underside of the base plate and are not user-replaceable, and their symmetric shape compromises security and ease of opening.

Method used

A one-piece mushroom head pin with an asymmetrical head design, allowing branding on the underside and enabling user-replacement, and featuring a larger base plate diameter for enhanced security and tool-free installation.

Benefits of technology

Enables easy branding, secure closure, and prevents accidental opening, with a design that facilitates tool-free installation and uses hypoallergenic, non-rusting materials.

Description

[0001] Mushroom head screws or mushroom head rivets (also known as Sam Browne buttons or bag button) are two-piece fasteners used for bracelets, bags, and other leather goods. The disadvantage of mushroom head screws is that the underside of the base plate (screw head) cannot be used for branding, as a slot or cross is required there for the screw connection. While mushroom head rivets offer free space on the base plate, they cannot be exchanged / replaced by the end user (permanent rivet connection). Both variants have the disadvantage that the head is symmetrically shaped and therefore not optimized for opening or secure holding.

[0002] The advantages of this one-piece mushroom-head pin are that branding can be easily applied to the underside (3), yet the pin can be replaced at any time. The asymmetrical shape of the head (1) simplifies closing and makes accidental opening (e.g., a bracelet) more difficult. The accompanying drawing shows an example of a dimensioned mushroom-head pin with head (1), bar (2), and base plate (3). The base plate has a larger diameter than the head to prevent accidental opening via the base plate. The height of the pin is dimensioned depending on the thickness of the leather. The head is flatter on the underside than on the top. Both edges of the base plate (3) are slightly beveled, allowing the mushroom-head pin to be inserted and removed comfortably without tools. The material used is solid, rust-proof, and hypoallergenic, e.g.Surgical steel, titanium, platinum, gold or silver.

Claims

[1] Base plate characterized by that the diameter of the base plate (3) is larger than the diameter of the mushroom head (1). [2] Mushroom head characterized by that the head (1) is asymmetrically shaped. The underside is flatter than the top. [3] Base plate characterized by that the edges (3) are slightly rounded (broken). [4] Materials characterized by that the entire mushroom head post is made of a solid, non-rusting and hypoallergenic material, e.g. surgical steel, titanium, platinum, gold or silver.
