Abstract
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to an adaptive curve drawing device that assists a user in drawing a curve on a drawing surface as desired by the user in a simple and effective manner, thereby improving the user's accuracy in drawing the curve. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Artists, architects, and engineers use French curves to draw curves freehand or to aid in drawing precise curves in technical drawings. The tools for drawing curves on a drawing surface have evolved considerably over time due to artistic, architectural, and engineering needs. Early civilizations used simple tools such as sticks and string to draw basic curves. Later, people developed more sophisticated instruments such as compasses and rulers that allowed for precise drawing of curves in art and design. One of the traditional tools for drawing curves on a drawing surface is the French curve. This instrument, usually made of clear plastic or wood, features a variety of gently curved edges with varying radii.
[0003] The traditional method of manually drawing curves on the drawing board using a curve ruler, while proven effective to some extent, comes with limitations. It can be challenging to find the perfect curve for your specific needs. Furthermore, it is difficult to achieve precise measurements using conventional tools, leading to inaccuracies in technical drawings. Furthermore, manual drawing requires skill and practice, and errors are harder to correct compared to digital drawing methods. Therefore, there is a need to develop an innovative tool that provides a consistent method of drawing curves on a drawing sheet where conventional methods may fail, and that meets the evolving needs of modern requirements.
[0004] IN3363MU2013A comprises a housing, first and second arms having a first operative end portion and a second operative end portion, wherein first and second rotatable members having a pivot opening for receiving shafts are disposed at the second operative end portion of the first and second arms. Further disposed within the housing are a sensor, a transducer, a processor, and a display, wherein the sensor measures the angular displacement of at least one of the first and second rotatable members, the transducer converts the measured angular displacement into a digital format, and the processor receives, stores, and converts the digital data into the user-defined format, which may be a length between the tips of the first and second arms or an angle between the first and second arms. The display unit displays the processed digitized angular displacement data in the user-defined format. However, although IN'013 refers to an electronic geometric compass, this device lacks the ability to assist a user in drawing a curve on a drawing surface as desired by the user in a simple and effective manner, thereby improving the user's accuracy in drawing the curve.

[0018] As used herein, the singular forms “a,” “an,” and “the” refer to both the singular and the plural unless explicitly stated that only the singular is meant.
[0019] The present invention relates to an adaptive curve drawing device capable of assisting a user in drawing a curve on a drawing surface as desired by the user in a simple and effective manner, thereby reducing physical effort and saving the user's time.
[0020] Referring to Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an adaptable curve drawing device comprising a telescopic arm 101 having a slot 102 with a pin at the end, a telescopic rod 103 attached to the telescopic arm 101 by means of a hinge joint 104, the rod 103 having a chamber 105 with an iris hole 106, the chamber 105 being attached to the rod 103 by a motorized slider 107, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 108 installed on the arm 101, an L-shaped telescopic element 109 attached to an upper end of the telescopic arm 101, the telescopic element having a clipper 110 at the end and a motorized roller 111 adjacent to the clipper 110, a cutting blade 112 attached to a sliding unit, a speaker 113 provided on the chamber 105, and a microphone 114, which is provided on the arm 101.
[0021] The device disclosed herein comprises a telescopic arm 101 having a slot 102 with a stylus at the end, designed to be positioned on a drawing surface. The arm 101 allows the user to adjust the length of the arm 101 as needed. The slot 102 is provided with an electromagnetic coil for generating an electromagnetic force for gripping the stylus.
[0022] Furthermore, a telescopic rod 103 is attached to the telescopic arm 101 by means of a hinge joint 104, wherein a chamber 105 with an iris hole 106 for storing and gripping a pencil is attached to the rod 103 by means of a motorized slider 107 provided on the rod 103 to allow adjustment of the position of the pencil with respect to the hinge joint 104.
[0023] A microphone 114 is provided on arm 101, allowing a user to enter a voice command regarding the positioning of the pencil. Microphone 114 contains a small diaphragm connected to a voice coil. When sound waves from the user hit the diaphragm, the coil vibrates. This causes the coil to move back and forth in the field of the magnet, generating an electric current. The signal is sent to a microcontroller integrated into arm 101, which processes the user's voice command for positioning the pencil.
[0024] Based on the user's input command, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 108 installed on the arm 101 is activated by the microcontroller to capture and process images of the surroundings of the arm 101. The imaging unit 108 consists of an image pickup assembly with a set of lenses that captures multiple images of the surroundings of the arm 101. The captured images are stored in the memory of the imaging unit 108 in the form of optical data. The imaging unit 108 also includes a processor integrated with artificial intelligence protocols, allowing the processor to process the optical data and extract the required data from the captured images. The extracted data is converted into digital pulses and bits and forwarded to the microcontroller. The microcontroller processes the received data and determines the position of the pencil relative to the pen.
[0025] Based on the determined position of the pencil relative to the stylus, the microcontroller actuates the motorized slider 107 to translate the pencil along the length of the rod 103 so that the position of the pencil aligns with a position of the stylus. The motorized slider 107 includes a sliding rack and rail, such that the chamber 105 is mounted over the rack, which is electronically actuated by the microcontroller to move along the rail. The microcontroller activates the slider 107 to perform the sliding operation. The slider 107 is driven by a DC motor, which is activated by the microcontroller by supplying the required electrical current to the motor. The motor consists of a coil that converts the received electrical current into mechanical force by generating a magnetic field so that the mechanical force of the rack provides the energy required to cause the chamber 105 to slide so that the pencil can be moved along the length of the rod 103 to align the position of the pencil with a position of the pen.
[0026] As chamber 105 is moved along the length of rod 103, an ultrasonic sensor on arm 101 detects the diameter of the pencil in chamber 105. The ultrasonic sensor works by emitting ultrasonic waves and then measuring the time it takes for these waves to bounce back after hitting the pencil's surface. The ultrasonic sensor consists of two main parts: a transmitter and a receiver that detects the pencil's diameter. The transmitter sends a short ultrasonic pulse toward the pencil's surface, which travels through the air at the speed of sound and is reflected back to the transmitter as an echo once the pulse hits the pencil. The transmitter then detects the echo reflected from the pencil, and the sensor performs calculations based on the time interval between the transmitted signal and the received echo to determine the pencil's diameter. The collected data is sent in the form of a signal to the microcontroller, which then processes the signal to determine the diameter of the pencil.
[0027] Based on the detected pencil diameter, the microcontroller actuates the iris hole 106 according to the detected pencil diameter to securely grip the pencil. The iris hole 106 mentioned here consists of a ring at the bottom with a plurality of slots 102 along the circumference, a plurality of blades, and a blade actuating ring at the top. The blade is pivotally connected to the blade actuating ring, and the base plate is hooked over the blade 112. The blade actuating ring is rotated clockwise and counterclockwise by a DC motor embedded in the ball actuating ring, resulting in the entire 106 opening to securely grip the pencil.
[0028] Furthermore, an L-shaped telescopic element 109 is attached to an upper end of the telescopic arm 101. The element has a gripper 110 at its end for gripping the rod 103 and a motorized roller 111 adjacent to the gripper 110 for rolling on the writing surface to draw a curve on the writing surface with the pen. The L-shaped telescopic element 109 is connected to a pneumatic unit comprising an air compressor, air cylinders, air valves, and a piston, which work together to assist in the extension and retraction of the element 109. The pneumatic unit is controlled by the microcontroller such that the microcontroller actuates the valve to allow compressed air from the compressor to pass into the cylinder, with the compressed air continuing to develop pressure against the piston, causing the piston to slide and extend. The piston is connected to the component 109, and due to the applied pressure, the component 109 extends. Similarly, the microcontroller retracts the telescopic component 109 by closing the valve, which causes the piston to retract. In this way, the microcontroller controls the extension / retraction of the element 109 to position the clipper 110 over the arm 101.
[0029] The clipper 110 is operated by a pair of handles that are alternately squeezed and released to engage or release the arm 101. The handles are driven by the motor, which causes the clipper blade to oscillate from side to side. When the microcontroller operates the clipper 110, the motor rotates the blade to oscillate, causing the arm 101 to roll on the writing surface, drawing a curve with the pen.
[0030] In addition, a cutting blade 112, connected to a sliding unit provided along the height of the rod 103, is actuated by the microcontroller to sharpen the pencil. The cutting blade 112 consists of a motor connected to a set of blades 112 for sharpening the pencil. The motor is the key component that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to move the blade 112. When the microcontroller actuates the blade 112, the motor begins to rotate the blade 112 clockwise or counterclockwise, causing the blade 112 to rotate, thereby sharpening the pencil.
[0031] A weight sensor provided in chamber 105 detects the weight of the pencil in chamber 105. The weight sensor consists of a coiled membrane and a sensor module. Due to the weight of the pencil in chamber 105, the size of the membrane changes, which is detected by the sensor module. The sensor module detects the weight of the pencil in chamber 105, and based on the size changes of the membrane, the detected data is transmitted to the microcontroller in the form of a signal. The detected weight is further processed by the microcontroller to compare the detected value with a threshold value stored in a database connected to the microcontroller. If it is determined that the detected weight falls below the threshold value, the microcontroller controls a loudspeaker 113 provided on the chamber 105 to generate an audible warning to a user regarding the refilling of the pencil.
[0032] The speaker 113 receives signals from the microcontroller, converts them into sound waves by vibrating a membrane, and, with the help of amplification and control circuits, generates audible sounds to inform the user about refilling the pencil.
[0033] In addition, a wireless communication module connected to the microcontroller is provided on the arm 101 to allow the user to remotely give an input command regarding the positioning of the pencil to cause the microcontroller to actuate the imaging unit 108 to determine the position of the pencil with respect to the pen, to translate the pencil along the length of the rod 103 so that the position of the pencil coincides with a position of the pen.
[0034] The computing unit is connected to the microcontroller via an integrated communication module, which includes, among other things, a GSM module (Global System for Mobile Communication) capable of establishing a wireless network between the microcontroller and the computing unit.
[0035] Finally, a battery is installed in the device which is connected to the microcontroller that supplies power to all the electrically operated components that require a certain amount of electrical energy to perform their functions and operation in an efficient manner. The battery used here is usually a dry battery, which is made of lithium-ion material and provides the device with a long lifespan along with an efficient direct current that helps all the components to function properly and efficiently. Since the device is battery-operated, it does not require any electrical voltage for its operation. The presence of a battery leads to the portability of the device, meaning the user can carry and move the device from one place to another as per their need.
[0036] The present invention works best in the following manner, wherein the telescopic arm 101 is positioned on the drawing surface. The user can input a voice command for positioning the pencil via the microphone 114. Based on the user's input command, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 108 is activated by the microcontroller to determine the position of the pencil relative to the pen. Based on the determined position of the pencil relative to the pen, the microcontroller actuates the motorized slider 107 to translate the pencil along the length of the rod 103 so that the position of the pencil matches the position of the pen. As the chamber 105 translates along the length of the rod 103, an ultrasonic sensor detects the diameter of the pencil within the chamber 105.Based on the detected pencil diameter, the microcontroller actuates the aperture 106 according to the detected pencil diameter to securely grip the pencil. Furthermore, the cutting blade 112 is actuated by the microcontroller to sharpen the pencil. The weight sensor detects the weight of the pencil in the chamber 105. If the detected weight is below the threshold, the microcontroller activates the speaker 113 to alert the user to refill the pencil with an audible signal.
[0037] Although the scope of the invention has been described herein with limited reference to specific embodiments, this description is not intended to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternative embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to those skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention.
